The food was excellent. In was in no way their fault I didn't enjoy my yellow curry, that was all on me. The entree coconut soup (forget it's name) was wonderful undertones of Tom yum flavour without the heat. Hubby throughly enjoyed his kebabs and green curry. Highly recommended.

Thai Lotus is the best of the Thai bunch in Taupo with a cosy Thai styled decor, polite service and a family restaurant vibe. It has lost something in the change over of ownership in terms of service but the food and flavours are still good. Worth a meal if you're in Taupo for more than a day.

Amazing Thai food - probably the best I’ve had in New Zealand (and that’s saying something as I eat Thai a lot)! Everything was delicious, and the staff were so friendly and helpful despite a consistently full restaurant for the entire night - they were just wonderful! I think we’ll be eating here again before we head home, and will definitely be heading back there again on future visits!

This was a truly excellent meal my friends and I friends enjoyed. I had the pad thai and it was delish, espically when garnished with the lemon the meal was served with. The service was also both prefessional and friendly. I would love to back.

Maybe bitten off more than can chew. Maybe should ease up on the takeaway orders to avoid delays in the restaurant? Staff were doing their best but we waited 15 minutes to be seated. With a booking. And our table sitting free. Not an intimate dining experience with takeaway customers walking past and milling around. Food was ok.

Have had great meals here in the past. Went back for our 55th wedding anniversary and were not disappointed. Fantastic food and very friendly service. And to our surprise and delight they presented us with a desert. Very touching.

Great service. Meals served quickly. Yellow curry, pork and garlic were great. Chicken and Basil was good too but will be better with less salt and more Basil. Overall great place. Will visit again.

Absolutely Devine food. We had very quick service here. Meals were beautifully presented and very good value for money. We had an early dinner but as it clearly is a very popular restaurant I would book if having a meal after 6pm. I have never seen such sparkly clean glassware either. Plenty of parking as it is at the opposite end of town to most eateries

One of the better Thai places I've been to in New Zealand. The food here is quite delicious and the portions are decent. The menu has quite a few interesting items and there's always something there that looks tasty. We usually stop by here on the way back to Auckland from Ruapehu if we're going through Taupo. The nice food and service make it one of the nicer restaurants around.

A great find. Excellent food and excellent service. It is very quick too. A good idea to book . We went for dinner at 6.30pm and it was filling up and I'm guessing many were locals and regulars. It is not open that late on weekdays so check the website. I had stir fried lamb with steamed vegetables and it was so tender and not salty. My husband had stir fried beef which was equally good. So good that we are going back again tonight. Parking outside is one hour. A local pointed out the small parking sensors underneath your car which light up after 60 minutes and don't allow you to move the car and come back in the vicinity again. Very evil in my opinion but you can probably find a longer park much further away.

We love Thai food so often eat in Thai restaurants (usually good but certainly not always). We were just passing through Taupo and were lucky to have dinner here as this is definitely one of the better ones. It was a really delicious meal - everything that we ordered was lovely. I was particularly excited that they had Prawn Toast which most places don't do any more and I was not disappointed with it. The service was fast, efficient and friendly even though they were pretty busy (being a Saturday night after a big sporting event had been on in Taupo that day). We will definitely return for another meal the next time we are eating out in Taupo.

Nice enough ambience, average food, probably frozen source so meats a bit tasteless, had duck which is normally tasty but had no taste to it. Pawn cakes ok. Nicely presented.

This restaurant has classic, traditional decor reminiscent of the restaurants I went to as a child in the 1980s. The service was good, attentive and friendly. The meals we had were delicious. My young son was particularly happy with his child's meal of spring rolls and fried rice, which was much more carefully presented than can usually be expected for a child meal.

Thai has always hit the spot, and I think the saying goes - you cannot go wrong with Thai food. But I have to say, it went downhill this time. The food was bland and the authenticity was missing. To the restaurant's rescue I would like to say that we went there around 9:30pm, and their closing time was 10pm. Maybe the chefs were tired or didnt really care. While we were halfway through our meal, they took another table. Which was surprising as it was almost 10 now. So I guess we could forget the timing part. Maybe they need to work on their food part. Restaurant itself was cozy and had good atmosphere to it.

Amazing and authentic atmosphere here, warm and good service👌First time I've taken a chance to try Tom kha soup😂, very yammy and rich coconut base, a bit tough chicken meat though, but still good taste. (small portion of soups is served without rice here); Pad Thai Rice Noodles were tasty as well, with chicken and prawns, all in all, serving meal is beautiful👌😍, but I recommend to clarify what part of chiken is going to be used in your meal, can be not chewable🙈 8/10, I'm not an expert in Thai Cuisine, but hope it was authentic enough😂🙈

Visited the Lotus again with four friends for our 64th wedding anniversary and were not disappointed with the food or the very friendly staff. Their special plum sauce served with my prawn cakes was delicious. The crispy pork and cashew main course was amazing with a very generous amount of cashews I thought. The dish was so much l coud'nt get through it all.You can imagine our surprise when we were presented with a complimentary desert from the staff for our anniversary. What a lovely gesture. Our friends who had never been to the Lotus before were very impressed and like us will definitely be back, thank you Lotus staff.

The food was fantastic, super tasty. The service was excellent. The only downside was the portion size was a bit small for the price. We got the lotus noodles and pad Thai crispy pork with deep fried banana for dessert. Everything super yummy.

I’d say we had an okay experience. We ordered the crispy pork and garlic and the red curry. The pork dish was actually very tasty, but the red curry was so creamy it was a bit off putting. And to make things worse, we asked for both dishes to be hot (spicy) and other than a bit of chilli oil on the top of the curry there was absolutely no heat to be found. Very disappointing as usually at authentic Thai restaurants that we have been to around NZ, and in Thailand, “hot” dishes burn my lips in a great way (and “Thai hot” is beyond my ability!) but at this place I think if you want it to be spicy you will have to try Thai Hot as Hot was not even a little bit spicy. To be fair it was extremely busy so service was a little slow and nobody checked on us after we got our meals which meant we couldn’t ask for extra chilli (or more drinks which we were hoping to order) but that is forgivable as almost all tables were filled and I understand how difficult service can be in times like that. However wouldn’t return purely based on the food quality and lack of heat as we definitely prefer more authentic Thai food.

We got pad thai and green curry chicken takeaway for lunch and the staff noted there is a difference between the lunch size and the normal takeaway size (lunch prices were cheaper). We got the lunch portions but they turned out to be a bit too small and not very filling. The flavours were ok but nothing special

We ate on a Monday night and the place was full. A craft beer at the brew house next door was a great way to start an evening at the Lotus. The Pad Thai was definitely a highlight but we also enjoyed the duck curry that wasn't actually that hot. For entrée the fried tofu and separate order of money bags were delicious. Alongside a glass of the house Riesling kept things fresh. Service was friendly and topped up our water nicely.

The service was a great start, we didn't book and we should have seeing it was Easter Sunday and all...but we got a table, the prawn toasts and money bags were great as was the green curry and duck in garlic and pepper sauce. Fantastic, the reviews were bang on. If you want great Thai in Taupo, you have to come here!

If you plan to have a friday or sat dinner make sure you have a reservation, other days may not be as packed as the weekends, not so impressed with their deep fried tofu as it was not crunchy as we thought being deep "fried tofu" and i think it was cooked in advance so when we ate it its already cold.
