Welcoming on arrival. Relaxed vibe, cool low key music playing to create that nice hum in the background. Absolutely impeccable service, great selection of food and wines, chefs excellent and very accomodating to dietary needs and efficient. You went above and beyond with my gnocchi as well, thank you! Went out there last week with my family and the lack of masks were very alarming, food was decent but have had better from here in the past. Hoping they implement the masks more as we still are in a pandemic.

Nice pizzeria in the centre of town. There is competition in this street with many eateries and italian restaurants. We selected this restaurant as I has more vegetarian options, only served italian food and gave a spik and span impression. We were not disappointed and enjoyed our salad, vegetariana pizza (a bit small in size) and their version of tiramisu. Recommendable place.

Amazing meal! Enjoyed it so much we went back the next night for dinner again. Great to have a "family" area out the back with a tv playing a kids film. (much appreciated effort from exhausted parents) Meal was better than many we have had in Italy! Will be back again when next visiting Taupo. Thanks!!!

Over all food was good but not difficult dishes. The service was fast and efficient. Price was up there Near $70 for garlic bread 2 starters (caprese salad - beautifully ripe tomato! But do prefer fresh mozzarella for ghis dish and Chicken livers in Marsala cream - lovely) a glass of red and bottle of bubbly water so mid range I suppose. Only real down side was that the chair was past its use by day saggy and uncomfortable but the place was reasonably busy for the early evening.

Visited Taupo and had Portofino's for tea on Friday 16th of April 2021. Ordered takeout and had the carbonara, margherita pizza and prosciutto pizza. Outstanding food and great service, a special shout out to Angelina for awesome conversation. Highly recommend to anyone that loves Italian food at a great price, you will not be disappointed. Thanks to all staff for their service.

Highly recommend Portofino in Taupo. We were passing through Taupo and chose to give it a go as we felt like Italian food - and were blown away by the delicious food so much so that we stopped in a week later coming back through Taupo again! This will be our new stop for dinner when on holiday in Taupo. The team were so kind to my children, it’s a beautiful atmosphere and the most tasty food I’ve had in a long time. The whole family absolutely enjoyed it. We ordered the chicken mushroom pasta, a pizza and a side of very delicious veges. The children enjoyed their kids meals - pizzas and bolognese. Thanks so much guys for providing such amazing dishes and a great dining experience both times. We will be back 100%!

During our trip to the summer series we had a delicious meal on the Friday night, so tasty we returned on the Saturday evening expecting to get politely turned away as it was 9pm and there was only two tables finishing their meals. They were happy to seat us and feed us another tasty meal. Both nights the meals arrived very quickly and the house red is very drinkable too :) Outstanding service and food, thank you.

Lovely quiet dinner (out of season - not because it's not popular!) with great wines by the glass and great pizzas. Staff were friendly and efficient with both us and our baby. Has outdoor seating as well as plenty of room inside and is right in the middle of town with parking outside.

Incredible flavours - their seafood is a whole new world to the tongue! My husband loved the eye fillet steak, cooked faultlessly and accompanied by a delicious mushroom and bacon sauce. Excellent and friendly service. Highly recommended!

It was nice but was hoping for to have a really special Italian pasta. Enjoyed the meal but felt i could have made it easily enough at home. Comparing to other restaurants in welly and Petone it just didn't compare sorry. Staff were friendly and attentive but issue with the bill (was included with another table of 6+ people that we weren't with). The lady was very flustered trying to correct it and got upset with their colleage in front if us (wasn't necessary... was just a mistake)

Food when it arrived after nearly 2 hours was good, unfortunately were so hungry, that dinner just got wolfed down and didn't really enjoy it. Was only checked on by the wait staff once in nearly a 1 and 35 minutes. Yes they were busy, but I've had dinner at other establishments that also had a semi full house and the food didn't take hours to be served.

I actually really enjoyed Portofino Taupo. Go in expecting Italian themed food, and you'll walk away happy! The rear area of the restaurant looked really pretty, and I'll definitely ask to be seated there next time! We had the veal and a penne dish that were both yummy. The pasta was carb heavy and creamy, which is filling but leaves you wanting something fresh. The veal was quite well balanced and very tasty. Service was pretty good. Waitress assumed we knew which Italian menu items she was referring to, but I had to try and figure it out after the fact. Great selection of wine and prosecco.

We have dinned here many times and have found the service and food to at a consistently high level. There are new and fancier restaurants in Taupo but they come and go. Portofino lets its food and service do the talking.. My partner loves the Lasagne and i'm a fan of and the Lemon Sorbet. Pricing is fair, you won't leave thinking you have over paid.

One of the many many Portofinos in New Zealand. I usually order Chicken Fettuccine and some pizza bread, witch are both really good. There is a good selection of wine. The staff is very friendly and the wait time to get the food is usually short. This is also one of the few places in Taupo that is open until relatively late.

My family has been eating here since we moved to Taupo 8 years ago. We've had numerous meals here, taken friends and family and regularly get takeaways. The owners are a really nice family operating a well run, efficient restaurant. We all have different food requirements and they have always been more than helpful and happy to oblige our requests. The food is consistently good. It's super cosy and warm in winter too, so we love that factor too. Staff are great and the long term ones recognise us each time. A good choice for Italian, and who doesn't like Pasta !

This is a nice little Italian restaurant in the heart of Lake Taupo it has great pasta and pizza and chianti wine. The seafood spaghetti was fabulous and was loaded with prawns calamari mussels and clams.

It’s not easy to find a good Italian restaurant serving authentic Italian cuisine using their home country’s ingredients pairing with the local producers. We were glad to happen across this little gem for lunch. San Pellegrino sparkling, Barilla Pasta, good Parmesan, a humble selection of Italian wine imports as well as local. You know it’s good when Italians are eating here too. Gnocchi was plump and firm to the bite, along with the tortellini. The pizza Margherita was well executed - it’s easy to screw simple things up, but the chef managed to make this classic with subtle perfection. Unfortunately the spaghetti was over cooked beyond al dente by Italian standards but the rest of the Vongole dish was very good and clams were fresh and sweet. Wish we had room for the tiramisu.

We had a fruit cheesecake as the waitress had suggested but the taste of the fruit was very light and they added a fillet of chocolate over it. It would have been better to put a fruit coulis. And for the profiteroles, the cabbages were a little too small and stuffed simply with whipped cream and chocolate on top. (Original) Bon accueil et service rapide. Les plats étaient bons surtout les pizzas. La pâte pas trop épaisse et pas trop de fromage sur le dessus. Par contre les desserts étaient moyens. Nous avions pris un cheesecake aux fruits comme la serveuse nous l’avait suggéré mais le goût du fruit était très léger en plus ils ont rajouté un filet de chocolat par dessus.
