First meal here, I enjoyed mine, loved the vibrant flavours of basil pesto mix with clearly fresh crispy blanched local produce beans, served with requested Diane Sauce on the side which is not lost in history from every breast of chicken to the side of every one of my steaks that I ensure is brought to my table. I thought my Eye Fillet steak altho deliciously cooked was small, however, wise is the chef who adds this sauce to their repertoire of skills especially when I come to dinner at your place! the crispy chips elected with my steak were nice for unashamed dipping. My friend didn't like the in-house-creation tartare on the side she was served in the dish with her 'Fush n Chups' obviously the taste must be at the discretion of the individual, I found it a bit strange tasting at first hence im commenting on it to detail here, but on its own with the veges I liked it. This needs some research to get the right combinations to appeal to a wider audience palate. There was a slightly different creamy white sauce drizzled over the juicy fresh salad which was beautifully presented with moist crispy fish fillets all tasted nice 👍 Excellent comeback from their fair share of troubles like the other restaurants nationwide thanks to the lengthy changes of constant confusing C19 restrictions, a brilliant location lovely staff, Mikayla and Emma served us diligently to start with and the chef's willingness to make an off-the-list sauce is big in my book. The only glitch for reasons unknown I couldn't see is reasonable service timelines weren't watched carefully and need improvement perhaps : = leaving your clients hungry and feeling like they have been forgotten, waiting to order food more than 20+ minutes is far too long especially having a prestigious lake front location left us stunned having to wave down some service? #1 to present first class service to begin with, then serve the unclean glasses?.. this is the basics. white sediment like paint scrapings of some kind in the bottom of my glass? a little suprising. but if this review invokes a response from them I will definitely increase my rating, and edit this review drastically. -acknowledgment of mistakes is the first golden rule in my book and as you can see diners were alive and well as a pleasant enviroment experienced by all soaking in the scene of dimming sunset which these pics reflect. Thank you Waterside , we will dine here again 💖

Me and my partner went here last night! He had the fish of the day (snapper), I had the Chicken breast wrapped in bacon with creamy mushroom. We loved everything, portions were good, mains & desserts were yum! Despite it being quiet busy, we didn’t wait too long for our meals. Customer service was great

Was there on 29th of Dec 2020 in my way from Wellington to Auckland which wasn't that great experience. Happened to be there on 29th of Dec 2021 but was a very different experience. The steak was done as per order and the gratin was very yummy. However a better steak knife would be greatly appreciated. The Salmon was perfect but our team preferred their steak sandwiches a bit juicer. Overall a good experience. Thank you Waterside Team!

Service was lacking. I enjoyed my main meal but was not asked how I wanted my lamb cooked. Had to send it back and when it come back my lamb courgette which I had not finished didn’t come back. Also the dessert wasn’t as described on menu some things were missing. Dessert for kid that was included never came.

First time I’ve had Fish and Chips at a restaurant Everything cooked separately. Extremely helpful and pleasant staff. Love the Rustic look decor in the restaurant. Amazing restaurant, the freak shakes looked amazing but didn’t order one. Wide selection of food and great atmospheric. The staff were nice but didn’t really attend to us such as refilling our water. Otherwise this restaurant was amazing.

We were in town for a day and chose this restaurant for dinner based on the special advertised on the board outside and the atmosphere plus lighting inside. We chose the Rump steak and chips for $20 special of the day and the $55 deal for a 3 course meal (selected items only). The food was cooked and presented well and staff were friendly. The only critique is that it felt like we waited a long time for the food, but it was worth it.

Great location across the road from the lakefront in Taupo. Wife and I both had the 2 course $45 deal and both got eye fillet, which was scrumptious. I chose the mussle for entrée and she got the Chef's recommendation Cheesecake to share between us. The kids enjoyed the Kids meal combo aswell. Will be back next time!

Beautiful setting outside with a great lake view to enjoy a meal with family or friends. Food was delicious! Halloumi sticks were amazing and steak was cooked perfectly! Friendly and professional staff topped off a great lunch out 😊😊

Went out on a Saturday night. Very nice place friendly staff. Food was fabulous steak to perfectly for my taste , my Grandchild had lamb racks superb really well cooked. Only thing I found out later was I was charged for a beer that I didn't order I don't drink beer and was charged for the 3 drinks we had ordered so was overcharged fir the beer which I didn't have $8 so check your receipts really well before you leave. Otherwise my Grandchild and I had a great night out together.it pays to book before you go because it's a very popular place .

Watched three separate tables of people come in without being vax scanned. Unmasked staff made me feel super uncomfortable, and took them quite a while to come around for service, meals, and clearing dishes - not only for us but for everyone, even when not even half capacity. Prawn cocktail was room temperature and grilled prawns on top were rubbery and overcooked. Would not recommend. Rating saved by the mains being tasty, lamb rack in particular was really good, but didn't outweigh the rest. Would try somewhere else next time instead of coming back.

Amazing!!! Everything was gorgeous but special mentions go out to the wontons, the chicken breast and the melonball cocktail. Cliché aside it felt like I'd died and gone to heaven, no joke! Service was a little slow to start but certainly made up for it for the rest of our meal. Beautiful location, lovely staff and lovely venue. Will most definitely be back when we visit Taupo next time. Nga mihi tino nui Waterside whanau, ka rawe!!

The food was tasty and the service was quite friendly. My wife's beef came exactly how she requested. But my pork belly skin was not really crispy and there portion of coleslaw on my dish was quite small in my opinion. If not by those two little point it would be a 5. All in all we enjoyed our visit and would come back.

The food was great, our table really enjoyed our burgers and chips. The views over the lake are amazing, and we loved the atmosphere. Our table had awesome service and my friends really enjoyed ourselves. Great selection of drinks, and the meal was mouth watering. Front of house staff was friendly but seemed overworked - only 2 staff on the floor so getting their attention was a little harder. Kitchen did mg order wrongly so the food had to be remade. After waiting for it to be redone, the food was cold in the middle which was disappointing. Front of house did the best they could so the stars are for them.

Took a group of 13 for dinner on 30th October. Food was brilliant and service was great. Very reasonably priced and as always, its hard to serve 13 at the same time, but wasn't a problem. Will definitely be back next time I'm in Taupo

Used to be regulars here but last night our of the 10 dishes ordered only three were up to previous visits. Service was slow and drinks Service other than the four ordered with food order was non existent. And on top of everything there was a surcharge for labour day 🙄 which was explained explicitly on arrival. Maybe new owner or chef but something has changed.

This place is awesome, just went for today’s lunch I had their crispy salmon. I think it’s 29 NZD it’s definitely worth it! The only place I went I find competitive with their salmon dish would probably be Auckland’s 360.

Always great here. The daughter and I always get the salmon with the crispy skin and vegetables cooked just enough and still crunchy. The salmon is melt in your mouth and so juicy. Don't forget the milk shakes! Thet are killer! You have to take the ice cream and mix it into the shake then eat that with the cake of the day that is on top. Suggest you do not get it before your meal though...

Just loved it. Friendly welcome as we walked in the door, and were offered a choice of tables to sit at. Ok, so it didn't start off great as we walked in there was only one couple in the building and we sat down. We waited a bit and heard some talking in the back, my husband went to get us menus from the coutertop. As we were tempted to just walk out and go elsewhere since we didn't see anyone around, another family came in and sat down. (the door slammed a bit behind them so it was enough to get someones attention) and as they sat the other family, we were noticed! The service was quick with a drink order from that point and the server was very attentive! It was pleasant. The food is great! We had Jalapeno poppers and calamari to start with and it was very flavourful! Just the right amount of spice and hot cheese. Fantastic. I thought I was going to need a lemon slice for my calamari, but it was so full of flavour, I didn't need anything else. My husband had the Pork Carbonara and I had of course, in true American style... a burger! The pork carbonara was delicious as I had a bit since it looked so great. Well presented, perfect portion, full of flavour. What more can one ask for? The buger was equally nice, however, the only thing is, I could tell it was a sort of premade patty. A thick one, delicious, but definitely not hand sculpted. Either way, the food and service was great. I cannot complain. I absolutely will stop by again when I get to Taupo again. Was worth it!

Had dinner there tonight and everything was amazing! The food, The staff and the hospitality were 5 stars. Young Maori girl who looked after our table went out of her way to ensure we were well taken care off especially when my daughter knocked her drink over. No fuss or drama. Food was delicious... Nice view of the lake. My meal however was not great. I ordered pork belly. It did not have crackling on top, the skin was gooey and although the meat was moist, it felt and tasted like it was drowned in oil. The other people with us did enjoy their meals.

Food was reasonably priced and was great portion. We were very bloated only ordering 4 share plates - Jalapeno poppers, wedges, half ribs and calamari. The jalapeno poppers are definitly a must try as it was just so tasty. It is our 2nd time here and we most likely will come back. The only improvement was, when ordering the wedges, I should have asked for no cheese as they all stuck together like a big patty, other thn that, all good.

We vistited Lake Taupo Today and While we were there we wants to try out nice restaurants in Taupo. We are amazed by the service from their team and the hospitality is great . The food was so delicious and the vibes of the restaurant is so cosy and so refreshing and while eating we enjoyed the lake view !!! The food was cooked with love and care ❤️❤️❤️❤️ we highly recommend this place to anyone whose travelling in Taupo must try the place. The Chef Name Jasmeen who i know her personally but did not know she works there , while we were seated she must be starting her work she came in said hello to us on our table and i was surprised that she works there and great to see her working at such a lovely place x She is so lovely and a great Chef ❤️❤️❤️ We will visit you soon team keep it up the great work team!!!!!

Was all just absolutely delicious. My friend could not finish her mussels because the sauce was rich and delicious but got too full! I had the fish of the day (pan fried Hapuka? With crispy skin, With spinach and garlic potatoes, mandarin, turmeric ranch sauce and seasonal greens and sent my compliments to the chef as it was so yum. Hope they have that on the menu again!

Food here is absolutely amazing! Me and my partner are mussel fiends and this place hands down has the best mussels. We also had the fish bites which were cooked perfectly and the batter was soooo good. The portions for everything we got was well worth the money, super generous. The reason I'm only giving 4 stars however is because although the pasta was yummy, the pork tasted a bit funny and I couldn't really eat it. Not sure if it's cause it's pre-cooked maybe? Not sure but wasn't very nice. Other then that, well definitely be back to eat here again.

Waterside is on the curve, where the lakefront road curves into town. The lakefront side is busy and congested, loud restaurants mixed with fast foods. The town side is quite. Waterside is just in a pleasant place, where the rowdy places don't infringe but you still feel a vibe. The food is pretty good, and so is the service. We had the market fish and found it delicious. All in all, if you're in town for a few days this is one of the better selections for dinner out.

Nice and fast service, place wasn't that busy, very friendly male waiter, However... My steak was a little burnt, but nice flavor, veges very undercooked, no carrots like picture, salsa verde not my fav, potato gratin was good. Partner enjoyed his chicken, but the tiny potatoes were mushy, and he didn't get any veges, Not really worth the price, quite small dishes. Especially my skinny small glass of coke which was completely flat and cost $5. Didnt want to complain and ruin our night, it was not horrible, but it was not amazing.

Average food, pricey as expected, definitely room for improvement. The restaurant looks a bit ramshackle when you walk in. There's a definite nautical theme, but the random fake plant wall and cheap tables don't do it any favours. We had to wait a bit to be seated as there was no one on front of house when we walked in. Now the food was really a mixed bag. The chicken breast was great, good portion size and had an Italian theme to it. The crispy pork belly was average at best, with the 'crispy' part being rock hard. There was an attempt to make this Asian themed but it wasn't like any crispy pork belly I've had before. $9 for some steamed veges was a bit of a joke. The freakshake was just big and cheap tasting, there definitely wasn't any quality ingredients used in there. Quantity wise it was great, and we enjoyed the novelty of it.

I had visitors from Scotland staying overnight Saturday, passing thru Taupo on their way back to Auckland Airport. Were a bit miffed when paying bill that we were charged for sparkling water $8 not a huge amount of money but kind of felt that as it was offered along with water there wouldn't be a charge. Over all the restraunt was clean and our server Harman was very nice.

Was here today and ordered the fish of the day. I thought that the fish wasn't fully cooked so I told the staff (I never do this normally). The chef and the waitress offered me a new fish and I got to keep eating of my plate. Super service! Would recommend this place.

Great view. Lovely atmosphere. Well varied menu. Stunning presentation and superb flavours. Everything is cooked to perfection! They do have the specials options, which make dining a bit cheaper, without sacrificing quality or flavour. They have their own bar, with an extensive drinks choice, with some unusual items that give them an edge on the competition! There's definitely something for everyone. And, if you are not in the market for alcoholic beverages, have a look at their 'freak shakes' - just don't expect a appetite afterwards! They're huge! All the staff we encountered and observed were genuinely friendly, cheerful and knowledgable.

We bought a grab one voucher for the Waterside Selection platter and drinks. You know that feeling when you're eating somewhere with a voucher, and you don't feel like you're getting the full dining experience from the place, just the cheap seats voucher version? Well it doesn't happen here! We had such lovely service and the platter was HUGE, all of it was delicious but the hot smoked salmon was to die for. We stopped by for dinner after some dodgy service from a place down the road and we were not disappointed! We ordered the Waterside Platter and the Venison Meatballs as well as the suggested beers from the waitress, Kiriana. The food was beautiful and fresh but the service was really why we decided to stay. Kiriana was incredibly helpful and attentive. She was more than happy to suggest local beers for us to try as well as answering some of my other random questions and, overall, just had great banter and was a pleasure to be served by her. The location is incredible - as the name suggests right on the waterside so beautiful anytime of day.

When we came in we were greeted straight away, we were given a nice seat next to the fire and were given our drinks straight away. It took a while for the waiters to come and take our order. We had the calamari for our entree and it was beautifully cooked and tasty. The garlic bread was average. Our mains took a while to come out but when they did come they were very lovely. The steak was succulent, the burger was lovely and the "fush and chups" were filling! Took a while to clear the table when we were finished but our dessert order was taken quickly and we got this in a short amount of time. Overall was a more positive experience that we had in Taupo compared to other places in this city. Thank you.

Thia place has amazing lake view. We had got a seat outside and on a good sunny summer day, the breeze from the lake makes the experience even more enjoyable. This place is a bit steep but the portions are not too bad (we had ordered some sides). But the most attractive thing on their menu is their freakshake which is heavenly for a sweettooth like me. I had ordered the chocolate freakshake & my friend got the salted caramel one, this literally made people turn their heads while we dug into our shakes. Freakshakes are a must try but be aware the size is quite large so it would be a good idea to skip a meal before it!
