Didn’t know what to expected and were actually blown away by the quality food and service. Portions were very good and the taste better than most Chinese restaurants in Auckland. I’d say their standout quality is high in flavour, less on salt, very pleasing meal.

I am so glad we made a reservation. From the moment we walked in the door we were made to feel very welcome and comfortable. The staff followed the Covid rules in a professional manner. They are friendly and efficient and a pleasure to be around. The restaurant is very clean, bright and airy on a hot summer's day. The Yum Cha is freshly prepared, hot and a true foodie experience. We will certainly be back again and happy we have found a good quality Yum Cha again. Even though they were busy, there was a good atmosphere. Makes it worth the one hour drive each way to experience such happiness..thank you

Good customer service and good kai (food). But the Lemon Chicken and the vegetables are lack of flavour and salt. Anyway, they have my 5 stars review.

Our go to in Tauranga for quality Chinese meals. A special favourite for weekend Yum Cha. Fried squid, honey BBQ pork, and Lychee icream being family favourites. Can be very busy so definitely pays to book in advance. The only downside is that parking can be an issue given how popular it is.

If I could give 6 stars I would. Had a brilliant meal here tonight. Very friendly and helpful staff, ensuring we had just the right quantities of just the right food. Quick service despite being packed out. Loved it (it was our first visit having been recommended by friends - we will definitely be back!) Picture is sweet and sour blue cod - just the job.

Absolutely fantastic food, cooked to perfection, I've had plenty of Chinese food but this was the absolute best I've had in NZ.

Have come here many times and absolutely love it! The food is incredible and the customer service is so 👌🏼 I was cold and they noticed and made sure to keep me comfortable. Staff are so friendly and polite. Definitely recommend.

BEST CHICKEN WINGS ON EARTH. it’s prawn paste chicken wing if I’m not wrong and it’s hard to find in NZ. Reminds me of home - Singapore. Yummy Chinese meals too like roasted duck/pork. sweet and sour pork, Yang chow fried rice…

Oh my goodness this place has the best food! The staff are so nice as well. This is my favourite Restaurant in Tauranga, probablyin NZ! I cannot say enough good things about this place. If you have not gone here then you should! They also do takeaway, which has a smaller sepreate menu.

We were welcomed in and the menu was explained to us how to order. The food came quickly and all was delicous. Big portions and everything was very tasty. Was Mothers day so very busy but service was excellent.

The best chinese restaurant in Tauranga. I have visited this place for years and everytime I visit Tauranga I go to this place. These guys have relocated to Cameron rd and the restaurant looks really bright, clean and spacious. The quality of their food is just flawless and we really enjoyed our dinner.

Awesome authentic Chinese cuisine. Place was full on a Tuesday. Loved the tea, BBQ pork and duck dishes, as well as their char ho fun. Recommend.

Foods were great and portion was big. It is perfect for group of people. The staff was nice and one lady was hilarious. They have lots of hidden menu which is not on menu. So you have to ask what other options they have. Also for kids birthday you can get a cute character dumplings as well =)

Amazing food, and the service was good too. Only thing I found was the tables were too close to each other, even for non-Covid standards, so definitely not a spaced out seating arrangement as per Covid requirements. But I'll be going back for a takeaway.

Here is too busy this Sunday. We order takeaway. Make sure book at least a couple days before your visit.

Ordered the Singapore Fried Vermicelli and Fried Noodles in Black Beam Sauce for takeaway. The food was quite authentic in Tauranga area! Both dishes were $20 and were sizeable portions with a good amount of meat. The service was very accomodating and the food was prepared on time.

First time eating at 88 and was very impressed. Food was absolutely delightful. Only strange thing is that we had our greens ( pokchoy with oyster sauce) after the meat dishes were finished....will return.

Always a pleasure having yum cha here. Chicken's feet are back, crispy roast duck is delicious. Shanghai style pork buns are one of my favourites. Very rare that we are disappointed here.

Amazing food ... not a place for quite dining when busy which is most of the time due to popularity. In some cases a table at the rear might provide a quieter experience. Good food with wine and beer and spirits as an option. 2 Main dishes would be enough for 4 but adding a third dish for 4 would be plenty.

We are so lucky to call 88 a local! We have been coming here since the early 2000s in their old premises and would be happy to follow them anywhere. Always delicious, very reasonably priced and a great place to bring family and friends. 10/10🥰🥰🥰

By all appearances, a very popular restaurant catering to Asian cuisine off an extensive menu. Quick service, ordering and meals to tables, however, staff do not take the time to welcome you, discuss the menu, how to complete the order form and what the dishes include (or not). I enjoyed a pleasant dinner but would have ordered differently had I known more information about the menu choices.

Been here few times for yum cha been alright. Went there other night for dinner and got proper dishes. Felt the food was average and everything was very dry. Its not really traditional chinese food it's been made to suit westerners. The mills reef glass of pinot I had probably the highlight. Would recommend going to dumpling delight at waterfront. 88 restaurant very clean and well present however.

The service is phenomenal. I go every Wednesday religiously. The food is always delicious. Depending on what you may like. Sometimes you may feel daring trying new dishes. Most satisfying. Others not to my liking but that's the reason to try different dishes. You'll never know what you may like. For me...I absolutely love it.

One of the best Chinese Restaurants in Tauranga. Have a laugh with the staff who are very knowledgeable on what to order if your not sure. Reasonable prices and the food is great as is the service. You will probably need to book a table prior.

I think we got to eat nearly everything on the menu. Our friends had ordered for us. Everything was delicious. The Peking Duck was extremely good. Staff were friendly and helpful. Will be very happy to go again.

Perhaps the best yum cha takeaways in the country. They make sure we were not allergic to any thing. The food was good quality and quantity. Their Duck and Pork are outstanding. Their mixed veg with cashews the best I have had.

The best in town - this restaurant serves a fantastic range of great food. Surroundings are plain but you always hear happy diners making very positive comments about their dining experience. We've often said they should move to larger premises but I think it would lose its appeal and atmosphere. We love it and probably patronise it at least monthly on average. And the prices are VERY reasonable too.

Affordable, and friendly. But not the food wasn't too my taste. The buns I had were fried - but the pastry tasted a little different and the inside was cold. I was there with some Cantonese friends - who all enjoyed, which is why I have bumped up the rating a little. Definitely not sorry to have tried 88, and I won't argue if we go again - but I won't be recommending it.

I am super fussy with food but i have to say that This is the most amazing place to eat, there food is amazing especially the spicy wonton and pecking dumplings, all so the gravy pork belly with rice & Bok Choy. Highly recommend 88 Devonport Chinese these chef's cook the best "spicy wonton soup " & many other Chinese dishes. Full of flavors. I'm so going to miss 88 as the stinking council are shutting them down due to outdated safety of the building, so I intend to make the most of 88 whilst still operating...you guys are one of the best in Tauranga Moana

Primo kai.. We went for yum char and I was a bit disappointed at first bcoz we had to order dim sum from the menu. It wasn't the normal yum cha experience with the food trolleys rolling by, however once the food arrived and we took our first bite it was clear the food was on point! And very reasonably priced too! This place is AMAZING. From the outside you'd be forgiven for thinking this was your run of the mill Chinese takeaway with a restaurant attached. Sitting down looking at the menu you'll probably find yourself thinking "Is this too authentic for me?" But, when Top the waiter comes around and talks you through it all you'll start to feel that familiar excited anticipation about what wonders your meal will behold. As your food crosses the room everyone's eyes move with it. Dancing, Top expertly manoeuvres himself towards you. By now you're truly hungry, and the sight of the steam rising off your meal makes your mouth water. "HURRY UP TOP" you say to yourself. He seems to enjoy teasing you. Finally the food' placed on the lazy Suzan and you're into it. Chopsticks clatter and the slurping of dumplings fill the air. Out of the corner of your eye you catch the next dish. "Sweet and Sour Pork, Is this real life?" and again Top teases you with his approach. As the sweetness of the pineapple contrasts with the sour of the sauce your tastebuds are confused. Yet you won't stop. You can't stop. And the meal is gone. Giving yourself a couple minutes to compose you gather your belongings and make your way to the door. As you leave, Tops uncle asks "how was your meal?" Almost instinctively you reply with the usual "it was good", but as you walk out the door and look back in amazement you think to yourself "This place is amazing"
