C.Looking for a romantic dinner place? This is it. This restaurant sits on the harbour as mentioned in its name. My husband and I came here just when the sun was setting so the ambience was perfect. We ordered ourselves a couple of bubblies and they were delicious. Quite extensive drink menu I would say. The food was good but not out of this world. We ordered the beer battered fish and chips and the 4 seafood appetizer platter. All except the tuna that came with the platter was good. The tuna sashimi wasn’t fresh for sure. It felt like it was not only defrosted but that it wasn’t done properly because I can taste the water in the fish. Still giving this place 4 stars because everything else was lovely. The view, the service, the speed of the food coming out from the kitchen… definitely would come back here again; just not for the tuna.
A.Lovely place, it has inside seating and outside (on the deck with panoramic sea views) we went during sunset and it was amazing!, the food is very tasty as well and they also have mocktails and had the best one ever! Will def visit again!
J.It was my second time booking here and I'm sorry to say, I'm a bit disappointed either the food again. I find it to be a bit bland and pricey oth actually not much for what you pay.
The venue is very nice and 5* bit I must say I'm abit disappointed with your food abit sorry.
The waiter had a very dirty and old looing mask on 😷 that looked like she had been wearing it for week 🤮 very unhygienic. Please change your mask regularly.
$38 pan fried fish... Green for that price, I thought I would get a whole fish on my plate instead this is what I got. Also $28 dor eggplant that was fine, I just expected it to be larger portion sizes.🍆
M.By far the best food we have tasted in ages! Our new favorite go to for dinning! The entire place is just awesome and the water views having food as a stingray cruises past is an experience! Can not recommend highly enough! Should be 6 stars! We'll be back!

M.The food was definitely divine, especially the salmon! A lovely spot on Tauranga harbour & even though it was a rainy night when we visited I can imagine the view on a gorgeous summers day.
The Maitre De could have been a little more personable and I would have thought at such a highly rated venue could have managed better than a jumper & sneakers for work attire.
Our waitress however was lovely so made up for it.
A.The service was very good the staff was very friendly and helpful answering questions and confirming answers with the kitchen staff.
The food was spectacular steak and venison was cooked perfectly and the fish of the day had great flavor.
Can't wait to go back again and try some more of the menu and maybe even desert next time.
Have to note that had a great Whisky selection as well.
K.2021 review this restaurant is still one of the best in Tauranga. The views are great from anywhere in the restaurant and the staff are A1. The food as always is exceptional and cannot be faulted. If you are after a first class meal you are mad not to go here.

D.We went here with our friends to celebrate our wedding anniversary. I was disappointed when our waiter didn't wear a mask. He did have a exemption for not wearing a mask and preceded to tell me why with all his medical conditions why he couldn't wear a mask. We decided to change watiers. Our food was OK. Parts of it was just warm. It was disappointing meal.
T.Had been here 3 years ago for dinner and gave a good review but this time for lunch the food was not great. The waitress was friendly and took our photo for us. We had an entree of duck pancakes which were nice my wife did not have a main but I had a steak which was full of gristle and not very well cooked, I had mushroom sauce which was disgusting and looked like (sorry) baby poo. This came with colgannon mash but it had been cooked in a mould and over cooked. Overall disappointment.
A.This is such a lovely location, great views of the harbour and boating activity, added interest with trains commuting over the rail bridge. Our table enjoyed a tasty seared tuna entree and a seafood chowder entree and mains mussel and salmon dishes. All the dishes were very enjoyable, with loads of interesting flavours. The staff were very welcoming, friendly and smiling, great to see! There is parking outside.
Z.Was just thinking about the Sambucca creme Brulee I had 10 years at my brothers 18th birthday. It was truly that amazing that I think about it at least once a year. Looking forward to visiting this summer

M.My wife had the amazing Hapuka market fish of the day - simply outstanding, I had the seared Tuna as a starter, absolutely amazing and had the seafood chowder for a light meal which was full of seafood variety. Service was excellent and lovely setting. Highly recommend and wouldn't hesitate returning next time we are in Tauranga.

I.Fabulous setting right on the water, would be stunning on warm summer nights and days with a great view over the inner harbour. Service and food are top class. This is a very busy place and bookings are essential. On the down side, in winter at night there's not much that can be seen outside. In summer, book a veranda table so you can enjoy the view. Like most restaurants, loud groups can make conversation hard, not much anyone can do about that, sadly. If you want more intimacy, book for a later time rather than earlier, but you will need to book well in advance. Everything was very well presented, friendly team, although our table had a very bad wobble which I'm sure they would have been fixed if I'd mentioned it.
D.We had the Peking lamb to start. While not traditional Peking duck, it was still very tasty and a decent portion for the two of us.
For mains, we has the lamb rack and the venison loin. Both were well cooked and delicious. The garlic potatoes could have done with more flavour, and the vegetables with the loin were nothing special.
We finished with the chocolate fondante and brulee. The fondante was one of the best we've had from a restaurant. Unfortunately, the brulee came out overcooked, and was slightly rubbery.
Overall, a good experience and we will be back to try some of the other dishes.

S.The food was great, not amazing tho. The service was excellent and the atmosphere was quite nice. Just be aware that you might spend there an hour per course hence I recommend just have one meal and go because even it is not packed they take ages to bring the food. I also wish they had a better variety of international wines although it seems to be a problem in all Tauranga/Mt Maunganui region.

V.So the last pic I posted says all... empty plates. The menu was in the form of a newspaper which was amazing. Right from appetisers to mains and drinks it was great experience. The environment was great and so as views. Worth dining here while visiting Tauranga. Thumbs up to food, drink and experience 👍🏻. A must recommended place to have a wonderful evening!

K.Mediocre experience. Asked to be seated in outer area but were declined even though not busy. We had actually eaten and were paying before the tables were being filled. Quite disappointing as this was a 50th birthday meal!! As for the food - we started with pancake duck to share. Not crispy at all and we've eaten better from most Chinese take aways!! Mains were very bland. On the plus side, presentation was good as was table service. Rather pricey for standard of food.

A.The atmosphere was peaceful next to the water with some quiet tunes in the background. I was worried that ‘fine’ dining would not have enough food but it was just right. We had the pan fried fish of the day so very delectable I wanted to drink the sauce. My friend had the pan fried chicken breast that he said was wonderful.

Greeted as we arrived with their special greeting lady, a bit as though, why are you here, no Hello how are you, welcome. Just the look, you know, bad day. Onto the table and our waitress Jess, she out shone the greeting by a mile. Friendly, chatty told us the specials and ordered drinks straight away. Awesome Jess, thanks.
Food was good, beer battered fish with chips and chicken breast with pasta, very nice. Dessert, chocolate brownie and latte to finish. View a bit dark but would imagine it would be great for lunch.

T.Love the atmosphere at this establishment. It is a little hard to find as it is off of the beaten path, but there is an excellent view of the sea while dining. I had an issue with my food, and it was taken care of promptly and politely. Prices are very reasonable, and portions are generous. Service is amazing, and staff are super friendly. Will be back for several more visits in the near future.

A.If you're looking for a view, accompanied by delicious meals and a beautiful atmosphere, look no further. Harbourside provides in every single way. Far exceeds any expectations I had walking in. The twice cooked pork belly was wonderful couldn't fault the meal at all, even the walnuts were an absolute treat, I speak for a few of us when I say we cleaned our plates. Main was just delicious, our eye fillet came out in a timely manner, tasted great and we were well attended too by our waiter, whom was very energetic and friendly that we didn't overly mind. Dessert provided as it did impress, melt in your mouth lava cake with a delightful fruit mix on the side, the pairing couldn't have been better. The cocktails were fabulous, they were well garnished and tasted great. The only small thing I noticed was the bartender must free pour his drinks as my second cocktail (mojito) was alot stronger than my first (mojito) however more alcohol for the same price is never a bad thing. Location: 9/10

Our party of 5 had a seafood platter, pork belly and calamari as entrées. All were flavourful and well prepared. For mains we had chicken, fish and chips, garlic prawn spaghetti and mushroom risotto. Again; these were all absolutely delicious. We didn't have any sides as we collectively decided that dessert was more important 😆
We had the Pimms cheesecake, the brownie, the lamington chocolate fondant and the espresso brulee. If there was any crticism to be had at all, it was that the brulee had a tiny bit of burned sugar in the crust. But that's being really critical - it was still delicious.
All in all, we had a wonderful evening and I would highly recommend a visit. Our meals, including cocktails beer and wine was $428, so while being on the more costly side, was well worth it for the quality and service.

A.Great meals, and fantastic desserts. Everyone at the table really enjoyed themselves. Meals on the expensive side but you get a good view and yummy meals. Also stocks little creatures pale ale which is a must if you haven't tried it!
R.What an outstanding restaurant. We were lucky enough to get a table on the deck and the harbour view and setting was outstanding. The menu was really good. For entree I had squid. It was dusted with flour and pan fried. It wasn't tough or chewy and there was a good serving. I then had the John Dory fish for a main and totally loved it. We enjoyed a lovely bottle of wine. The wait staff were very good and the prices per course reasonable given the quality. I will definitely go back. This has to be one of the best restaurants in Tauranga.
K.Have enjoyed many meals at the Harbourside Restaurant over many years but Saturday 4th January was terrible. I asked for my steak to be Medium to Well done and got a Rare -Medium.
Food was sparse and lacked quality. 6 of the 10 Adults were totally disappointed with Entrees and Mains so we left without seeking the dessert menu.
We spent $600 but wont be back whilst this place serves meals like this. The waitress was very pleasant and the restaurant is in a great location. Pity about the standards.

The chowder was good but small serving in a big bowl plate. Resotto beetroot and salmon with seaweeds were amazing! However, the manager/owner was not happy when we asked her to move to another table to get a nice view. Other than that, the experience was awesome!

l.I remember many times being so happy every time we went for dinner there. What a great service and delicious experience there. My most favourite date was with my son when he took me for Mothers Day there. He used to be a suis chef and his first Technology teacher at Boys college was a chef there from Switzerland. Wonderful people and wonderful dishes all of them. Thanks for being there for such a long time. And we remember you after decades and still have that beautiful taste of your dishes in our memories.
T.We have often been to Harbourside and loved the food, service and ambience. Last evening though, after a beautiful main course of lamb back straps and one of us had the salmon which was also superlative, Harbourside seems to have been there forever, and some of the dishes on the menu have been as well. It's got a lovely view of the harbour,
S.Good food but the service could be refined. If I'm paying that kind of money I expect professional service. Our waiter was a nice person I'm sure, but seemed to think that we were there for his entertainment. I was also very surprised when he just cleared away our mains, glasses, everything and walked away. Didnt ask if we wanted anything else - we had to prompt that. We were thrown a bunch of dessert menus on the table and then had to wait almost 20 minutes before our order was taken. No apologies for the delay at all - just attitude. Very disappointing as the previous time we were there it was such a nice experience. We wont be going back.

D.I dine here pretty much every time I visit my parents, and we're never disappointed with any aspect of Harbourside. The food, drinks and location are all excellent, but it's the staff who really shine. They are so kind to my elderly parents, always make them feel special, and get them laughing!

D.We totally forgot our anniversary and called late, but the team at Harbourside were very accommodating! On arrival, the service was prompt and super friendly. We thoroughly enjoyed the banter with our waiter! The Peking duck was very enjoyable. My chicken stack was devine and his lamb strap, while a touch over done for his liking, was full of flavour and portions were very generous! Dessert menu was impressive which made deciding very difficult! But the freeze dried mandarin with the chocolate lava cake sold me and I was not disappointed! Thankyou to the team for making our night enjoyable and we will certainly be back!

C.View over the water and boats, easy parking and service excellent. Last night fish of the day and my husband had fish and chips, both tasty, beautifully cooked well presented. Not huge meals but we were full. Back again tonight it was so good and tried the venison and fish and chips again. Venison was unbelievably tender, tasty and plentiful. Sit in the verandah area if possible and there are cafe curtains if cold. Bar area to start with. Highly recommend but need to book.
P.Our 4th annual visit and they're continually hitting 95%, which is good! Service is great, and most of the food is too - there is always one dish, out of six, that only hits 6/10, however. We'll see you next year!

J.Not as good as it has been in the past. Don't know if it's changed hands but my daughter in law ordered a seafood chowder that had no recognizable seafood in it and she especially asked the waitress if she would be able to separate out the muscles when she ate it as she might not want to eat them. Everything was blended together so was not able to be separated. I ordered a drink that never came and when my son ask the waitress for an explanation of something on the menu she obviously knew nothing and simply read what it said on the menu, over his shoulder. I hope this is not the new Harbourside as we have all ways loved it.
H.The first time I came here it was totally amazing. I really wanted to come here again. Today I came with high expectations, but these sadly were not fulfilled. We were seated at a balcony table, but the curtain was down and there was bird poo right by my husband's head. We asked (nicely) if the curtain could be opened and a lady came back telling us no but she would shift us. Great! But unfortunately the attitude wasn't. The way the menus were grabbed, the body language and overall attitude was not pleasant. The waitress was lovely. The other lady came and asked us if we wanted to order drinks, 30 seconds after the waitress had. Our answer was the same, not yet. She did not look pleased and took the drinks order away. My husband and I chatted about what we wanted to drink then asked her when she came back, what beers they had. After rolling of eyes and drink menus forcefully placed on our table, our order was taken. I must say I was surprised it to be offered a glass. So just drank from the bottle.
Our entire was nice. For main my husband ordered the fish of 4ge day, John Dory. It was YUM. The sauce, texture, flavour was beautiful. I ordered the spaghetti with scallops and white fish and seafood bisque. Sooo disappointing. The scallops were overcooked, and there was a tomato sauce that my husband summed as it tasted like "spaghetti in a can".
We were not asked how we were enjoying our meal. After plates being cleared, my husband's while I was still eating, menus for dessert were just placed on the corner of the table. If we had been asked we would have said no thank you as we had decided to leave.
The first time we came was so very different, there was nothing we could fault in food or service. Such a shame.
a.Excellent friendly service. Great menu. Loved the crispy duck and pancakes, and the seared tuna was divine. The waiter was fun, enjoyed his banter, and my mother in law loved the back rub! We'll be back

J.Great setting for that special meal and is extremely popular which could explain why basic host skills like asking how the meals are that they served and would you like to see the dessert menu are missing and when a comment is made that a meal was not up to scratch, it was virtually ignored by the front of house. Small points but they do make a difference.

N.Well were to start... Good service from the waiter, although when walking in I haven't had the impression of a "warm welcome", smiles are not on the menu. Food: started with the "Assiette of Seafood Entrees" - nicely done, fresh and tasty, then Duck Leg, Wakanui Rump and Pork Cutlet with Salads. The rump should have been medium, but was rare. The pork was dry. It lacked flavour. Highlight was the duck, with a good choice of vegetables resembling of Asian fusion (warning: has Coriander in it). Salads are fine, dressing a bit on the sweet side. Didn't go for a desert, just had Espresso, which was sour (sorry never had such a bad one before). To sum it up, can't understand the hype around this restaurant. Overpriced and quality issues. There are better places in Tauranga for less money.

D.This place is one of the best fine dining restaurants we've ever been to - highly recommend going here if you're in Tauranga! The mains were excellent, I had the eye fillet and my husband had the Chinese duck, both cooked to perfection, however the desserts were the standout for us, my malteser brulee was super decadent and I have to say the best dessert I've ever had, whilst my husband also thoroughly rated his warm chocolate brownie. Great atmosphere, awesome service and reasonable pricing, we will be back!

Started of with the Peking duck pancakes and let me tell you they were so delicious best I've ever had.
To follow my partner had the sirloin steak cooked to perfection med rare with the smoked garlic sauce. I had the seared venison and the vanilla kumara mash and the celeriac and roquette remoulade balanced the meal very well. I heard it was a staple dish of Harbourside and recommend it to anyone. I don't know how we managed it but we did dessert as well. My partner had the brownie and I had the pear tart both great. Also have to point out the service was very good also.

K.Arguably one of the best restaurants in Tauranga, but not without some minor niggles.
It is not arguable that it does have one of the best locations in town, especially if you are seated in the "outdoor area", which hangs over the water where fish feed at night.
The service seems to vary from day to day, with minimal delays and excellent hosts one night, to absolutely average wait times and waitresses the next.
The selection of food is well presented, though a lack of changes on the menu can leave you bored a after a few visits.
The steak selection should be noted, as the cuts are exactly the same as offered at the Botswana Butchery Auckland. However, the cooking of the cuts can be inconsistent ( I have seen two medium rare eye fillets come brought out with absolutely different amounts of pink.
All in all, I would say that Harbourside is consistently good, but a few small problems stop me from calling it the best place in town.

Tucked away WAYYY down the strand away from the maddening chaos of the myriad of other restaurants this is by far the best in Tauranga for food, service and atmosphere. Very highly recommended.

J.A rainy day in Tauranga and lunch at Harbourside. I have been several times before but this time I was a little disappointed. But I shall go back again the next time I an in Tauranga.

They were tolerant of our nearly one year old active grandson..who did not want to be confined to his high chair the entire time but who also consumed and enjoyed with gusto his fish and pomme. frites
