Amazing! My family ordered around 7pm and they said there would be a 15-20 minute wait so we spent that time driving around sight seeing on our first night here. Their website so says they do deliveries and pick ups so they cater for all! I got the pork in lettuce wrap and fries. The fries are done in a gluten free fryer and they were delicious. They didn't even need a sauce to go with them. The gluten free options on the website said lettuce wrap or crepe. It didn't say if the fries were gf or not so I had to ask in person. I rang multiple times to try and ask but no one picked up. I would think the rice bowls would be gluten free too but I didn't ask. Maybe it could be a bit clearer on the website please? The pork was so good! Overall very enjoyable meal and a good size.

Very good fast food truck! Not tasted dumplings and just not a big fun of bao’s (opened few restaurants in Singapore few years ago and eaten them a lot) but the sushi bowls were very good! Spicy tuna bowl - well balanced, lots of good and fresh flavours, protein portion size is massive, lots of fish! Had one and had another one on the way back from Sounds, chefs at work obviously had slightly different taste palettes, bowl on sun late afternoon tasted less flavoured, and had no tempura nori. The only comment is to get little work on consistency across team, otherwise you’ve beat most bowls places in NZ! Pricewise - that’s best value for money, $15 for bowl with lots of protein is just rudely cheap lol!

Had the dumplings and some fries on the side, both were yum and not expensive in my opinion. Will go back and try other options. Staff were friendly and provided great info on food choices.

Had this for brunch on 16th May 2022. We were there just when they started their business for the day and was greeted with warm smiles. We ordered a flat white, a spicy tuna sushi bowl and a Feathered Bao with fries. We are so glad we decided to try this before leaving Te anau. Everything we had was simply delicious and generously portioned. Tuna is fresh and delicious. The chicken and Bak combination is divine. We did not expect such good food from a food truck but we are properly humbled. Highly recommend to try this place every day.

I have a confession: we stayed in Te Anau for five days, and made excuses to eat at Bao Now five times. We left this morning and I'm already sulking about not having any more tomorrow. Tip for vegetarians: the Breaky bao without bacon is AMAZING. I preferred it to the tofu bao.

So stoked to have found this place for lunch in Te Anau yesterday. Everything on their menu sounded delicious and loved that they had plenty of gluten free options (including their epic karaage chicken sushi bowl!). Cool wee setup, reasonably priced, staff were awesome and good music playing so all round great experience thanks guys, highly recommend👍

Delicious!! We had the feathered and pork Bao for dinner - yum. There was a half hour wait but we'll worth it.

Must stopover for lunch (or breakfast or dinner). My fav is the pork belly which will you make go back for more. Boa with shoe string fries $15.50

Who would’ve thought in the middle of Fiordland greatness the beauty of Te Anau could shine even brighter! This here is it! Soft luscious bao buns full of yummmi goodness for lunch then came back for sushi bowls with cauliflower rice for dinner and we’re not even vegan. The owner is a NZ good sort, well travelled and bringing awesome wholesome food on a plate. Don’t doubt just order and come back for more 👌🏽

Great food. We had the tofu bao and tofu sushi bowl. I think the bowl was vegan but I think the bao bun has milk. Both were very very good. And awesome vibes coming from the cooks. @chef, consider changing to a vegan bun!

Loved the bao So much in fact we are back the second night :).... And now third night ... Chicken bao was excellent as was the porky and Putin fries would feed an army!

We love this place! Amazing staff and service - our order was taken by the most lovely lady. Three of us are coeliac and had heaps of gluten free options to choose from. Food was well priced and super delish. This was our second visit and we will be back next time we're in Te Anau.

Really nice and well priced. We had a sushi bowl each and then shared the venison dumplings. All were delicious and good sizes, probably didn’t need to get the dumplings too as we were both stuffed

We get sushi bowls from Bao Now every time we begin or finish a Great Walk in Te Anau. They are packed full of goodies and are one of the best Japanese style food places we have found in the South Island!

Extremely consistent, authentic, very very good food. We've visited Te Anau four times in the last few weeks before and after great walks, and eaten here three of the four times - only missing the fourth because it was Christmas day and they were closed. The sushi bowls are my favourites, and I can thoroughly recommend both the pork and karaage chicken flavours. They are really filling, well seasoned and come with all kinds of fresh and delicious additional toppings such as edamame, kimchi, mung bean sprouts, tempura nori. Our groups also tried the bao, loaded fries and dumplings and these are also fantastic.

Absolute legends - they served us at the end of a very long, hot and busy summers day but the guys remained super friendly, professional and just good ol fashion kiwi legends. The food - extreeemely tasty, the buns themselves for the bao buns are insanely good. A must stop if you are swinging through Te Anau and in need of solid, quality food - and some great genuine service.

Friendly service & take away in compostable material. GF options are great (although be mindful there will be cross contamination as its a food truck). They can make a bao using a gf crepe wrap & can do GF buttermilk fried chicken! Fries & bao yum, freshly made & hot. Not open on Sundays in winter. Some seating outside.

Great Bao, chips are good but a bit much if you’re health conscious. You can head down Wong Way to Black Dog bar and eat it there to have a beer with your meal.

Super tasty fresh lunch! Tasty sushi box of spicy tuna! Easy parking nearby. Lots of space to sit outside. Highly recommend!

Super accommodating with my lactose intolerant— offered me a lettuce wrap instead. The sauce is incredible. Love the Bambi. The loaded fries were delicious as well. Highly recommend. Azn fusion.

Cracking bao truck in Te Anau. Great selection of food including baos, sushi boxes and dumplings. Good sized portions and the food was delicious.

Although not as good as what mum makes but pretty awesome to be able to get such yummy vegetarian bao away from home. Time to get a second serving. :) And I was glad I came back again. The tofu salad was very flavourful and refreshing for this hot summer day.

They ran out of cauliflower rice and I couldn’t eat the sushi rice (contains vinegar and sugar) so they made an effort to replace with other Veges and even avocado. Gluten free soy sauce available too. They are very accommodating with the allergy requests and some foods that I couldn’t eat etc. Thanks!🙏🏻

Probably some of the best baos you will taste in Australasia. Menu is extensive, ingredients fresh and guess what? They serve coffee to boot. The breakfast bao is particularly worth a go. All the people that work there are fantastic and you can see why this place is the talk of the town. Will miss eating here...all the best and hope to see you soon!

It looks good, there's always a crowd, and it delivers. Great bao, fantastic loaded fries and some good salads too. They even coped with a request for gluten-free by switching out the bao bun for a wrapper. Not cheap, and if you come here hoping for a bargain you will be disappointed, but the food is great and well worth the cost. Eating "in" is a series of outdoor tables under umbrellas, so, you may want to make this a takeaway in Winter, or on a wet day.

Cosy spit to get coffee early in the morning . Not many other stores open in Te Anau then. Plenty of seating space and free parking space around. Good variety of fresh food too. They have vegetarian and gluten free options too.

Reasonable price with fresh food. I really enjoyed chips. It was bit crispy and not too oily. I know the size of the food is not that enough but it was personally acceptable because here is a small tourist town.

best coffee in town. much better than sandfly and other places. check it out when u are in Te Anau. it is just opposite fresh choice. so u can park car, do shopping and enjoy a cup of coffee before heading to tramping :)

Hands down the best BAO I’ve ever had. And the fried chicken was heavenly. I’m from the Southern US, the land of fried chicken, and this is better than most you’d find back home. Everything works so well together and makes one of my favorite dishes in Nee Zealand! My wife had the pork belly and feels just as passionately about it as I do the chicken. We stopped in town to spend the night before doing Milford Sound and ate here for dinner. Then on our way back we stopped again for another taste. So good!

Aghhh. Their food is ahhhmaaaazing!!! So hard for us to get easy and delicious food like this in the states without going to a 5 star restaurant. Caleb @ Bao Now is amazing with his culinary artistry! Eat here or forever hold your breath... 💕✌️

Just had the Ocean Bao, with fresh market fish, pickled carrots, fried capers (wow!), cucumber, and mayo. It was seriously delicious!!

What a great food! 7 meat options in the Bao's, one vegeterian. Best coffee we tasted in the South Island. While a burger costs in some restaurants - 22$, a bao here costs 13$.

Just had late lunch at this place today.. amazing baos!! Tasty and fresh, full of flavour. The guy told me to get chips and it was not disappointing at all... yummy shoestring fries that remained crunchy even after long! Definitely recommended to anyone visiting or passing Te Anau

It has been a few months since I tried their food and to be honest cannot stop thinking about it! The place truly did not disappoint. Beef cheek bao w a pile of fries made the 4-hour drive to Te Anau melt away like the tender beef.

Went here for lunch today, the lady recommended the squid bao and omg it was decisions she also up sold me on making it a feast. And I’m so happy I did, not only was a super hungry those fries were maybe the best ones I’ve ever had, the seasoning is so great! Normally would have taken a pic but I ate it to quick to grab my phone 😅 will have to come back when next in Te Anau!

Had the best bao EVER!! tried their chicken bao with some fries and a cold drink, it was delicious. The bao is quite big and enough for one but if you are really really hungry like i was, then order two! the prices are quite high but its definitely worth it! The fries were crispy and nice too..

Best food truck in NZ! Delicious baos and mouth watering fries. So incredibly well done and substantial portions for a great price. We actually doubled back to try this out cause it was closed the day before, and it is completely worth it. The mocha with caramel was pretty heavenly too. Definitely will visit again if we are in the area; too amazing to miss!

it's sooo good. the bun is softy, and I don't know what sauce they use but it is tasty and juicy, the chips on top are crispy. the guy on service is friendly and will definitely give ur good recommendations if you have no idea. this is the food u must try in southland.

Possibly one of the greatest food experiences of my life and it came out of a tiny caravan on a quiet street! We spent 5 days in Te Anau and ate there two nights. It was so hard to choose because everything sounded so amazing! The pork belly is fantastic. The fries were the best I've had. Can't wait to go back!!

I rarely write reviews for places I eat, but I felt compelled to write one for Habit Foods. Their baos are amazing!! Best food we had in Te Anau and we wished we had discovered them earlier in our stay. Their fries were delicious too.

Had our breakfast here during our stay in Te Anau. We ordered a vegetarian Bao with Tofu, potato fries, and coffee. Everything tasted very well except coffee (but not reducing star because of that because I didn't like coffee in entire NZ :-(). The taste of Bao was beyond the expectation but it was expensive and portion was very small. Hence, reduced a star. On the other hand, the portion of fries was huge.

This place has seriously Good food. We had both the pork & the chicken bao buns with chips. Had to go back again wile we were in Te Anau. That along with the friendly service, means I would recommend giving it a go.

These bao are more fusion than usual Vietnamese ones, which I love, but still tasty with fresh salad ingredients. There’s a tofu option, as well as beef, pork, venison and chicken. The chips are crunchy, and there’s a good selection of drinks too. A good place for a quick bite.

I wanted to give this place 4/5 stars because it was a little pricey for what you got (IMO); but honestly, the food was flavourful, well presented, efficiently made with great service, and really—where else can you get something funky like baos in Te Anau? As long as you don’t expect amazing value, definitely worth the stop!

I only had one Bao and it was pretty good. I just have to knock off one star because as good as the Bao was I still feel it's just a bit overpriced. If they were a tad cheaper we probably would have ate a few more but instead of a meal we just settled for a snack. I'm sure they have done their pricing analysis so what do I know...

Ate here and the cart right across from here. Same stars for both! Staff on both sides made me feel like an old friend returning to eat. Great food at great prices. Keep smiling and being awesome! Definitely eating here again when I'm in town!

Amazing bao buns! I've been through Te Anau a few times when this place was closed and finally managed to catch it open- totally worth it! I had the pork bao and it was such a soft bun stuffed with pork belly.

Great street food, original bao buns - I had the bambi (venison) feast which included some excellent fries. All served with passion, quickly and tasted great. Very good value for money and would definitely recommend.

Very tasty Bao buns! The tofu was really crispy and good so there is also an option for vegetarians. The herbs, mung beans and vegetables were really fresh, the sauce really delicious. I also recommend the Vietnamese fries!

👏 wow. You guys nailed that, $15 for what has to be the best food we have eaten in NZ. The rabbit bao was perfect. Bun super soft not overstuffed and the meat just so juicy, tender and sweet and those chips I have no idea what you do to them/put on them but they were excellent. If I could hook up the food trailer to my car and take it round with me, I would eat that food everyday. Could not care less if Milford sounds will be a disappointment this made the trip worthwhile. I am very happy. Keep up the excellent job!

We had the cheeky (beef cheek) and Hoppy (slow cooked shredded hare). I've never had hare before but this was delicious. The chips were the best I've ever had. Crispy and fluffy. The only thing I would change would be two small buns instead old one big one because it got a little bit messy eating with our hands.

Absolutely outstanding! This place outshines the majority of typical tourist pleasing trash that's available in Te Anau .. by that I mean places that clearly don't care about return customers. Rush you in , serve you average food , take all your cash ,and rush you back out.. The staff at Habit Foods are beautiful and are obviously proud of what they are serving! So they should be! because the variety of flavours that come out of that little van is impressive to say the least🤤. I kinda get when people say it's expensive for the amount of food you get but heck it's that nice I'll happily buy two and still be better off than going to a local restaurant! Btw the Bambi Feast is incredible.. keep up the great work guys 👌🏼

Awesome friendly staff, easily made vegan. As others mentioned, the bao bun is not vegan. But the lettuce wrap was SO GOOD. It was crunchy, fresh & delish & I think I would have preferred it if I had a side by side with a bao bun. The tofu was crispy to perfection, everything was so fresh and so good. We got the Vietnamese loaded fries, just veganized. Very yummy, doooo it! I’d be a regular if I lived here.

Amazing little food truck! We had the fish, hare and beef cheek baos. The baos were melt in your mouth soft and silky smooth in texture. All the meat was delicious and fresh, tastefully marinated without masking the flavour of the animal, and all really generous servings. We also got some chips and bottled juice on the side which all went down a treat. Great staff and quick service too. Definately keen to go back in the next couple days while visiting Te Anau, and you should too!

Very tasty food. We had the Ocean and Feathered with chips, and quinoa salad. Both baos were very tasty and made fresh to order. The salad was also very tasty and generous. We were both not too hungry, so serving size was good for us, but could otherwise be considered on the small side for a main meal.

We read the great reviews about Habit, and decided to try. I’m so pleased we did, as the food was delicious and freshly prepared. Don’t be put off by the assortment of metal chairs and tables outside the van; it’s just part of the experience! My husband and I both chose the feathered bao - tasty chunks of chicken with salad on a soft bao, something we had never tasted before. The chips were gorgeous - crispy and with a tasty salt. We were comfortably full when we had finished. Habit is definitely worth a visit.

So happy having ate at Habit Foods. By far the best place in Te Anau, most other restaurants look run down, have terrible reviews and mediocre food. I asked for alterations to the pork belly bao as I have some food intolerances; I was met with enthusiasm to alter the menu to help me, to which I was extremely grateful. The bao was delicious, stuffed with a generous portion of meat and crunchy pork crackling. It was great to know I could eat it and not feel worried! They did forget to unseason my chips, but the bao was so nice I didn't care in the end! 10/10 you have to eat here if you come to Te Anau!

This place has amazing food. Even the fries where very good. You will get a little messy eating the bao but it was really really good. We went here two days in a row.

I only had the one which was porky but damn it was just what I needed and it tasted amazing. I looked this place up and the rating caught my eye. On turning up and getting my bao I wasn't disappointed. Nice little food truck and service with a smile.

Incredible soft Bao. We had the Fish and Fried Chicken Bao each. The sauces and fillings were very tasty altogether. The chips were deliciously salted with special seasoning. A must do in Te Anau.

Easily on par with the best bao I've ever had. Not sure what the story is with the other reviews regarding size as the two we had were more generously filled than your standard bao burger. Tried the Bambi (venison) and Hoppy (hare leg) and they were both exceptionally well prepared and an awesome combination of flavours and textures, and the Vietnamese loaded fries were a refreshing take on a popular dish. Habit's food is the kind of thing you find on holiday then miss when you get home. Do not miss this place.

Great food truck. Definitely get fries to go with your Bao’s. I got duck and my wife got crab, each were plenty large and scrumptious. They actually overload the bao’s with veggies to make them look bigger, but it makes it harder to eat and honestly distracts from the meat.

Awesome food truck serving up some killer 'Bao' (asian tacos) with a side of fries optional. They do also offer some salads but that's about it. If you are after a tasty cheap option then look no further.

We picked this place as a pit stop on our way to Milford Sound and wow! It was definitely one of our best decision. The foods are all very interesting and taste awesome. It was in fact, so good that we came here for "tea time" on our way back from Milford Sound the next day. We tried their Bambi, Porky, Krusty and Hoppy. My wife and I agreed that Hoppy was just ok, but the rest was truly excellent. Try their Bambi if you're game for venison. It is tender and pairs really well with the beetroots and the greens.

The taste here is good. The staff is good. So It's worth.

I do not take money from low income familys, and use it to go on hunting trips, or ride harleys and jetskis. Or use it for big flash houses. I was served a coffee no problems. Hallelujah!

Great bao, but is a food truck so won't be for everyone. For a quick meal for a solo traveller passing through town it was spot on! PS. Would have appreciated some side options other than chips though, they were good but a bit unhealthy to pair up with a classy bao!

The bao are good but expensive and quite big. Your options are $15 for one bao, or bao + fries for a few dollars extra. If you want to try more than one flavour, you're looking at $30 just for two bao. A bao tasting option where you get 3 smaller sized bao for $20 would be perfect.

Busy with coffee and fresh cooked food. Great place to stop. Highly recommend the coffee, dumplings and sushi bowl.
