A. S.One of the best steaks I have had for sometime. Delicious, appropriately medium to well done and extremely juicy. (Most places just make it well done when u order medium to wellish) Service was a little slow but worth the wait. 68$ with a drink and a dessert.
Dessert was not worth 15$ though.. probably skip the dessert ..
M. J.Food is superb. Friendly service with nice warm fire going. Would definitely go back. I had the duck and the Rhubarb brulee for desert. Wine was very nice. Price on a par with other places.
J. R.I remembered half way through the Steak, that I should take a photo of it. That didn't happen, so I can only describe it. The mushroom sauce on the side was a delightfully tasty addition with the garlic butter. As a consolation prize, the chocolate dessert pictured was well worth it.

M.We just had our first ever meal here and it was 5stars.From the moment we walked in with the friendly greeting to the warm welcoming fire,the food was the most amazing it teased every taste bud and left our plates clean. Never did I ever image timaru had a restaurant of the highest class and most decidant desserts. We will back regularly and look forward to the owner,chef and establishment. S. R.Fabulous meal well presented and wonderfully cooked. Brought out by the staff on time. The staff were very pleasant well presented and helpful. The only downside was the building is getting tired looking and there was an old gas heater that could have been put away as it wasn't cold.

Y. M.There is one big disadvantage to this place - we now have no idea how to return to "ordinary" Auckland dining after visiting Steak @ Customs House. We are just blown away from every moment of being in this unusual restaraunt. Starting from a feel of entering someone's Victorian home and going back a 100 years, the feel of travelling back in time continued as we set at the table: crisp white tablecloth, silver cutlery and REAL candle (yes, real wax and REAL flame candle, not a LED alternative). So that's about the experience...and then there is THE food. We had mushroom bruscheta and scallops and prawns as starters - both options were 100 miles above any expectations. I had duck risotto starter as a main and my husband had a steak...both meals came with a side of vegetables (which I did not even expect as I had a starter). Both steak and duck were melting - so soft and extremely delicious.
In conclusion - Steak @ Customs House is a very solid reason to come back to Timaru at least once again.
S. M.I got the rib eye steak medium rare and I can honestly say that this is once of the best steaks I have ever had. The serving size was generous, the medium rare was actually medium rare through the whole steak and the garlic and herb butter was lovely. I can also highly recommended the duck fat fried chips as they were also excellent. Service was great and the layout of the area is convivial without being crowded. When we finished the place was full but you didn't have to raise your voice to be heard which was nice. Highly recommend and will be back, thank you.
