F.Visitors passing through Turangi and staying the night. We visited Hare and Copper on the recommendations of its high ratings and positive reviews. The website does recommend booking in advance and I had used their contact form at approx 5:30pm on a Sat avro. We arrived and their friendly staff and told us they were fully booked and didn’t check the email so close to dinner service. Staff were very accommodating and sat us in the cafe corner of the premise! We were very grateful and lucky! The staff were very knowledgeable with their menu, recommending 3-4 dishes to share for a party of 2. We ordered drinks (their signature red and a local beer), truffle frieds, the pulpo octopus and short beef rib. The fries were a hit! Super fragrant and a very generous serving. Every fry was laced with the good truffle stuff and the dipping truffle sauce was an added luxury! The pulpo was unassuming. Super tender to bite and coated in this complex, luscious red sauce. The sauce had these little peppercorny/berries and occasionally you get one in your bite and it takes you too another place! Although the short rib was a little less generous in size, it compensated in texture and vibrant flavours. The rich cut of meat paired nicely with the chimichurri. After a brief intermission by the fire place lounge, we enjoyed a serving of the churros. The head chef was very generous and offered is both types of dipping sauce as we simply couldn’t decide! A wonderful dining experience in Tūrangi, beautiful venue, the decor was exquisite and paid homage to their name. Highly recommend

c.The Hare and Copper is a delight in the Turangi area. The idea of share plates works well and the menu selection are top class ideas and top quality on the plate. We had a fabulous meal with very nice drinks to match. The staff were friendly and engaging. The venue is marvellous indoor and out and the detail around the theme of hare and copper, fly and fishing, works well.

M.One of the best restaurants I've eaten in a while.
We ordered a bunch of plates to share and we couldn't be happier. Everything was tasty: from the sautéed prawns to the perfectly seasoned salad. My tops were the crab empanadas special and the mouth watering lamb rump. Everything paired perfectly with a lovely bottle of Malbec. Service was casual and really attentive.

m.We took a chance. We didn't have reservation; just googled for a place to eat while on our way back to Hamilton from Wellington. We almost turned back because we thought it was way out of the main highway but our son was starting to get really grumpy for food :D We were so glad we stopped by. We were surprised to find a great spot offering amazing flavours in, dare I say, the middle of nowhere! Well, Turangi is a beautiful 'nowhere'. Dinner was perfect! We ordered the marinated warmed olives, garlic&herb bread, jalapeno poppers, crispy skinned salmon (even our 5-year old son enjoyed this), and the dumplings.

R.Had boxing day lunch here. Amazing amazing food. We had quite a few sharing plates including the best truffle fries ever!! Had to get a second bowl. For dessert the churros were so light and fluffy!! Everything was presented beautifully and they made what could have been simple extraordinary!
There was live music and awesome outdoor games. Spent about 2 hours here and loved every minute of it!!
Unfortunately I'm guessing due to covid there wasn't a lot of people here on what should have been a packed day.

When we walked in we felt that we had possibly made a mistake. The decor was a bit shabby, the menus didn't look great and it just felt like a place the was trying to be excellent but failing.
However, the wine list was good, so we decided to persevere, even though we didn't really feel like ordering sharing plates.
Then the food arrived. We were very, very glad that we persevered.
The cooking was excellent, but most impressive were all little touches that really lifted the dishes.
I wouldn't normally order a beetroot and feta salad, and when my wife does I normally have a couple of bits then remember why I don't normally order that. However, this was exceptional. A genuine highlight.
Salt and pepper squid is a staple that is often good, but seldom excellent. I've ordered it at dozens of cafes and restaurants but never had it done as well as this. The seasoning, dressing, grilled lime and crispy shallots all enhanced the dish. This chef knows his stuff.
The surprising star, however, were the french fries. A hint of truffle, generous parmesan and then a strong garlic aioli made them delicious.
This is a wonderful place, that all visitors to the area must sample at least once.
K.They had only been open about three weeks when we went.
Refurbished since we were there before they closed it.
Andre prepared great food and his Mexican wife Lili was a great host.

M.9 shared plates for 7 of us for lunch which was definitely sufficient. The first bite was .... Wow! Absolutely fantastic food! And the service was very friendly. Couldn't recommend more highly, we'll deserved 5 stars. A little bit out of town, not a lot of tables but we booked. I imagine in summer it would be even better sitting outside, but very nice and warm with a fire.

We were a group of 10 and were treated to a wide range of culinary delights accompanied by a very nice Rose chosen from a great wine list. The food was excellent and the service fantastic. Our friends were so impressed by the whole experience. Make sure you book before you come so you don’t miss out.

J.One of the best restuarants I have had the pleasure of dining at! The chef is a talent that is rarely found in such a small town and with every delicous plate of food that was served, that fact became more and more evident. Everyone in our party of five felt at home in this warm and charming restuarant and will most definitely be back for more outstanding food when we find ourselves back in the area. I whole heartily recommend this place to anyone wanting an outstanding dining experience!

H.After dining twice at the Hare and Copper once having a main and dessert and once having shared platters and a dessert we were impressed by the quality and variety of the food. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable and the chef visited the dining room and had a word with each of the dinners. This is somewhere that is definitely worth a visit.
J.I was SO impressed with everything about the Hare and Copper. The relaxing atmosphere, the friendly service, and most of all the 10/10 food. Every dish we had was absolutely delicious, well balanced and creative. Little touches like the candied peanuts on the popcorn chicken were genius and added something special.
Thanks so much for having us - we only wish we lived closer so we could come more often! We will be back whenever we are in this part of the country :)
S.We enjoyed our (how many courses?) lunch but didn't like having shared dips etc, particularly at this time. I asked for serving utensils which were brought rapidly but some of our group were unwilling to wait and dived in, causing unease among others because of contamination from their fingers.
Service was excellent from quick, efficient staff, and I particularly liked the beetroot dish, broad bean dish and the churro, which was a new one to me. Thanks to all!

A.First time coming here and it was absolutely fantastic. The food was amazing, especially the jalapeno poppers! The staff were nice and polite. The grass/play area outside was a nice view and good for kids. Would definitely come back for another meal.
M.Delightful service and a good vibe. Owners here are really making big efforts to lift the cuisine in this area, and in that respect much improved over anything available in Taupo. However, the proposition is very much geared to the premium end - the tab will come in at above average. Small, intimate bistro dining, with a lovely outdoor setting as well. Therefore the food should match up on the price point, and it nearly does. House wine very good and well thought through in complementing the dishes. We went straight into the mains which look great on the plate, but just lack that sizzle in the taste dept - perhaps trying too hard? Get to the sweet selection and the whole experience becomes definitely more agreeable, so much so that they rate as well as any I've tasted. Simply delicious in the top rate category. These knock socks off anything offered in many of London's top eateries that I've had the pleasure to experience. I'd have given a 3.5, that's 7/10 if the rating was available. This with a bitmore work on the mains could be an 8/10 and in time 9/10 as I believe the owners are still finding their feet. I will revisit.
B.Honestly the best eggs benedict I’ve experienced. The hash brown was incredible. Chicken and waffles were decadent and delicious. Overall a great hidden gem worth a stop if you’re travelling via Turangi or staying nearby.
E.I came to this place because read that the chief used to work at El'Matador in Welly, which we love very much. Unfortunately, quality of food is not on par with El'Matador, but the price is higher than theirs. It's nice and cosy, but a little bit overpriced, food was ok, but not that great. Steak were lacking a good sauce. Confit duck felt like overcooked. Sides to all quite expensive dishes were pretty much potato. The only truly enjoyable dish was the prawns starter. Also serving speed were quite slow, maybe because chief friends came to place and they were served faster than us.

A.We were staying in Turangi for a quick skiing weekend and were looking for a nice place to have dinner after a long day at the ski fields. Little did we know what a gem was in store for us. I called H&C last minute for a group booking for 6 people and they were kind enough to accommodate us. Nestled on an open beautiful large farm land we were welcomed into their gorgeous restaurant and without knowing our table ended up ordering 1 of each of their 6 main dishes! I had the chicken which was superb. You can tell the ingredients are super fresh and the chef took his time to create these. My friends were blown away by theirs too! For starters we had the prawns and jalapeño poppers and wow they were divine. Finally finished off with dessert (I ordered the creme brûlée). There was absolutely nothing to fault from the food to the exceptional service at this place. We will surely visit again when in the area.
C.Great new restaurant! It had been open for only a week when we were there. Lovely indoor and outdoor eating areas. The hostess recommended that we try the small plates. We took her recommendation and were not disappointed. While everything we tried was good, the prawn and mussels particularly stood out. Great food, great staff, great setting.
One note, at the time we visited, there was no sign for the restaurant and our mapping utility guided us to the wrong side of the street and about 500 meters short of the correct destination. Turn right at the ‘honey for sale’ signals you will find it.

B.What a hidden gem!! A short drive up Grace Road, Hare and Copper is run lovingly by a husband-wife team who were happy to chat with us! For dinner, my partner and I had their share plates to create a awesome varied meal. We particularly loved the sauteed prawns, bone marrow and popcorn chicken! The wine menu is full of local favorites and we had several glasses of Saddleback pino as well as the Grace Road rose. We’ll certainly be back to try their brunch menu and sit outside on their cool patio area.

E.I don't know what happened. My husband ordered a leg of duck and got shredded pieces through a salad. I ordered kingfish. I changed lentils to satay slaw but when I put a fork full into into my mouth I nealy chokes as it was very very hot. I wasn't warned about it. There were at least 6 chili slices through the slaw. Waitress was nice. Gave me another bowl of different salad. As I've said maybe I don't know what happened here.
