N.Straight off the ferry & my whanau who live on the island took me to this new establishment. What a lovely setting with good food enjoyed by all especially the Heke smashed burger which collected rave responses. Nice vibe & a DJ tomorrow night so we may be back ☺️

Family friendly, yummy food, drinks and snacks. Friendly and efficient staff. Easy ordering system via the QR code or the option of ordering via the wait staff. A jumping pillow, Tonka trucks, and endless toys for the kids! They also have baby changing facilities.
You can eat on the table or nestle in the olive trees on the hill with your mates. The burger is so delicious. 5/5 stars.
Y.Ladies weekend on Waiheke Day 1 Lunch at The Heke. Made easier by the ability to order and pay online, sharing plates accompanied by the obligatory cocktail to toast ourselves. Fantastic service, lovely fresh produce, perfectly cooked meat - too busy eating and talking to remember to take better photo's of the table full of delish sharing plates.
L.Came here on a very busy Saturday afternoon without a booking. They accommodated us with a table for one hour as we just wanted to have some drinks. The bar has a selection of NZ based beers and ciders, which makes it quite unique, and can be ordered as tasting platters. Service was a bit disrupted as the servers were run off their feet, but nothing unexpected given how busy they were, and we could just order directly with the QR code at the table.
s.A great new eating and chilling establishment on Waiheke. This place ticks many of the boxes. It’s non pretentious, informal setting is great for families and friends wanting to sit back relax and enjoy good food, beer and excellent Waiheke Whiskey. Pet and children friendly with large open spaces and a big bouncy pillow! The design is rustic with a lovely chic bar area. The staff were attentive and Vivian was excellent and helpful. The food served from the open kitchen was very tasty and we enjoyed the large selection of beverages on offer! Life made easy by ordering at your table! We are heading back again with another group of friends. Great job given the difficult circumstances to start a new venture. Thanks

M.Love, love, love The Heke! We turned up Easter weekend with no booking. Harry greeted us with his vibrant, friendly personality and him and his manager went out of their way to accommodate us (7 peeps) and give us a great experience from service, food to a good laugh. R.We had an enjoyable time here on Sunday. They managed social distancing very well, and a spacious outdoor area was provided. The menu was very good, all our meals were appreciated by the family. Yes children were catered for but still plenty of options for adults.

Love the way you order and pay for your food and drinks on your phone, so quick and easy beats having to gain someone's attention. If you have kids or dogs plenty for them to do and lot's of space to run around. Would recommend and definitely will be going back, big thumbs 👍 up to Heke

J.Great spot for afternoon relaxation and delicious food. Perfect space for big groups and families. A lot of space for kids to play (bouncy pillow, diggers and dumper trucks to play with, mud kitchen, colouring in etc); dogs also welcome. Plenty of shady spots either under the canopy, umbrellas or set up under the trees. Friendly staff (and lots of them!). Love the optional app for ordering - Pizza and chicken were my fav! M.We are always made to feel right at home the minute we arrive at The Heke. You can see the amount of love and care the owners have put into creating such a fantastic space. Our new favourite local spot to enjoy a cold drink and some tasty treats. The team are all hospitality gold dust!

M.Lots we love about The Heke!! We really love the friendly relaxed vibe. My personal highlights (and guilty pleasures) are the smash burgers and the special Gin and Tonics both done Heke style! Also a shout out to the lovely staff.
L.Great location near bus stops and just along from Te Motu, Stonyridge and Tantalus. We were a walk in on a busy long weekend, but were given a table outside. Ordering is a breeze with QR at each table to order via app, which accommodated dietary requirements well. Although we rocked up a little after 12, we decided to try their whiskey and their gin. The gin was lovely and the whiskey was good, although a touch on the sweet side.
The menu has pizzas, bites and grill options, along with their famous smash burger. The smash burger lived up to its fame and the Buddha bowl was a very tasty lighter option.
Would be a great location for a group long lunch.

A.I went for the second time with a party of 7 to The Heke for lunch this week. It is light and airy, set in lovely gardens, with a large sandpit and bouncy mat in unobtrusive spaces, to keep littlies engaged. The food and service are first class and I can recommend it as a very pleasant way to spend an afternoon - especially if you wish to try Waiheke brewed craft beers!

We got a great vibe on our first visit we decided to return on Boxing Day.
We enjoyed both visits and know that we will return. From the friendly welcome, to the staff, the divine food, fabulous beer and beautifully unique surroundings The Heke is a wonderful spot that many people, families and dogs will enjoy.
We can't wait to visit again and wish you well.
M.Stop searching, this is the place to be at in Waiheke! Excellent vibe, delicious wood fired pizza’s and great location! Service is top notch. Plants hanging in between the lights would be a great touch. The smoking area should be located somewhere else, not next to a toilet 😊
G.Personally, I'm not keen on the "order through your phone" system, which seemed cumbersome and impersonal. Nevertheless, I had a great burger (rated it 8 out of 10) my wife's buttermilk chicken was unseasoned (she rated it 5 out of 10). It was quite a noisy dining environment. The Alibi craft beer (ironically sourced from the brewery next door) was great but ordering a non-standard gin for my wife was convoluted. Only a small selection of wine is available by the glass, with no red wine available by the glass. Some staff wore some ridiculous plastic mouth shields with open gaps around the edges rather than closer fitting face masks. In summary, we won't be rushing back.
M.Such a fabulous experience. We received stunning food and exceptional warm friendly service. Loved the ambience. My local friends have raved coming here and I was certainly impressed and will definitely be coming back and recommending ❤️
R.I have visited this new venue several times with my family and dog. On each occasion despite it being busy, the service has been excellent, food very tasty and delivered without delay, happy atmosphere and lots for kids to do in nicely landscaped grounds. Highly recommended. Well done Heke!

C.A really nice relaxed place to have drinks and lunch. Ordering and paying for your drinks and food at the table made it very easy and efficient. The young wait staff were lovely and enthusiastic. We had a lovely time there.
L.We went for lunch and had such a good time we stayed until they closed! The service was excellent. Our main waiter was brilliant and funny and the staff were very accommodating when we wanted to stay but they were pretty full. Food was great. Hubby loved the Kahawai. Will definitely return!

N.Great venue and ordering of the food is very efficient, I would of given 5 stars but was disappointed with the food, tasted good but they missed the boat a bit here serving usual burgers, fries and pizza which so many other venue's serve. So I had the steak but very small for $34 with a few green leaves chucked on the side, hopefully they will improve on the size!!!

L.We had a disappointing experience at Heke, but from the other positive reviews, I can appreciate they might have been having an off day.
TL;DR: Getting seated was an extremely frustrating experience, and we found the food to be underwhelming by Waiheke standards. The drinks menu has a couple of house made options - the rest are all imports.
We came over on Easter Sunday and came specifically to visit Heke. On their website they stated they had a fair number of tables for walk ins, and when we called, they confirmed this and said we didn't need to make a booking.
We turned up at 1pm and after waiting a few minutes to be greeted, we were told they were fully booked, even though there were plenty of tables free. They told us we could put our name down for 2pm, and they would call us if a table came up earlier.
We went for a small lunch at Wild on Waiheke while we waited, but never received a call back. We made our way back to Heke at 3pm, and even more tables appeared to be free. We were met by the same host, who told us they were fully booked for the rest of the day. The host claimed the free tables were all double booked and people were about to show up.
While waiting, we came across a couple of other groups and locals in the same position, frustrated by the communication and confusion around bookings.
Throughout the ordeal, we stayed very friendly and tried to be understanding, but the host was very dismissive. She told us she was following the owners direction to not seat any more people, but I got the impression she may have misinterpreted the owners. In the end, we ended up finding another host, who more than happily worked to find us a table and get us seated.
In fairness, this problem could easily be solved through some staff enablement, or maybe the issue was isolated to an employee having a bad day.
As far as the food and drinks go, we were underwhelmed - everything was just okay. There wasn't anything that stood out to us unique, and the drinks menu served more as a marketplace for other companies products. I think Heke has one house made lager, but everything else is imported from elsewhere. The two cocktails we ordered were also subpar.
I personally won't be going back to Heke again. Competition is hot on Waiheke, and Heke just didn't stack up for us.
J.We were a group of 25 dining at Heke and had an awesome time. Heke's set menu catered for everyone's dietary requirements. Nobody went hungry either! It was well catered for with lots of delicious plates that we all shared. The service at Heke was true to Waiheke's spirit - friendly, fun, and nothing was problem. We had so much feedback about what a great time the team had. Thanks Heke for a wonderful afternoon for our team. We'll definitely be back...

S.We’ve been to The Heke a couple of times and always so impressed with their offering and service! Amazing location to take kids (they were kept entertained with the bouncy tramp, tonka trucks and little kitchen), while us adults loved the delicious gin and food. Ordering was so easy from the table, so ideal for groups. The staff were all really friendly and helpful, nothing was a problem. The smash burger and fried chicken were a hit and we will certainly be back to try the rest of the menu.
A.We absolutely loved the Heke!! Amazing service and help with organising our 30th birthday, great semi-private area for us with bar leaners, tables etc and such an epic atmosphere and location - also fab food and drinks! The perfect combo, fantastic day out and easy to get to on the bus route.
C.Great set up, awesome kitchen and use of wood fire to get the flavour into the food. We really enjoyed and will be back, very busy on mothers day and a long wait for food is the only reason for 4 star.
B.Really nice location and stunning setting. A lot of imaginative touches on the menu like the colorful tomatoes in the caprese. The burger doesn't look special, but is a real triumph in its simplicity.

R.Detoured to The Heke for lunch. Great choice!! Had the Pumpkin done 3ways with the Rustic Potato pizza. Deeelicios. Topped off with a Heke beer and for dessert the whiskey truffles. Staff very attentiveand a dog to pat as well; very friendly vibe. Fire on but blankets provided as well and a beautiful outlook to local golf course and surrounding hill. Definitely worth a visit!!
