Tasty and huge burgers with juicy patties and really fresh salad. Generous servings of fries, great value. I'm told by our Airbnb host that the fries are cooked in beef tallow which means they're extra delicious.

Had the 5-o and the classic. The chicken patty was a bit dry for my liking but the beef burger was great. Chips were very good, not usually a fan of thick cut chips but they were very crisp and seasoned well. Found it strage they asked if i wanted to add cheese for $1 when you can just get another burger for that $1 extra and also get gherkins/jalapenos..

We ordered Blue burger and it was really delicious with such a succulent patty and that cheese... oh my god! We went to Fergburger next day and I can totally say that this place is no worse (though the burgers are very different, they are both totally worth trying!). The vibe is nice as well and the staff is friendly.

This place is awesome. Super personable staff, tasty burgers, large portions and convenient location. You should eat a burger from here! I had some fries with special seasoning that were nice and a big burger with an egg on it that was massive. I split it with a friend who had something different but equally delicious.

Perfect burgers. If you like burgers this place is unmisable. Full of flavour, tatses of good quality ingredients and they are a good size. You won't be left hungry afterwards. Small chips portions are very generous size.

One of the burgers I've ever had, and I've had a lot living in Melbourne. Grilled chicken was moist, beef was well cooked and flavourful, and the relish and BBQ sauces with the grilled pineapple added the perfect finishing touch. If I had one critique, it would be the bread, which was akin to the good ol' 'corner shop' burger--it was just a little too soft (perhaps not toasted, though I did get takeaway). If they tried something like a white sour dough or a wholemeal (which are a bit firmer) and toasted them really well on both sides, it would add another depth of flavour and texture to the burger. Burger aside, the cajun chips were amazing, 10/10. They were thick cut and crispy, even after getting takeaway! The aoili they pair it with is well balanced, as some garlic aiolis can be quite overpowering. Overall, one of the best foods in Wanaka for sure, and surely one of the best burgers in NZ.

Great burgers and very good chips. Two vegetarian burgers on the menu which is more than I have ever seen in any other burger place! The only downside is that the place is a bit small and can get really crowded, especially on weekends.

Virgin burger with gluten free bun.(vegan) Interesting take on a burger I had this as a vegan version so without the tahini yoghurt. Burger was a little bit on the dry side because there wasn't enough sauce probably would have suggested a garlic sauce to go with the theme of the falafel burger, or more lemon juice or water in the hummus made made this burger a lot more digestible. Overall it was a good burger with really good falafels the decent amount of salad and the gluten-free bun was surprisingly very good. #glutenfree #veganoptions #Wanaka

There is furgburger, then there is red star. They both cure your junk food crave with full on grease and flavour, but red star wins by miles for great value and yes, there is no such overrated queue. I stop recommending furgburger to people because of the over all experience. Yes the queue is a mood killer. But some people like it. Their burgers are also more expensive, just because they have queues...... Waiting in a queue for 40min to get fed is no fun, but some people like it. So if u want to wait in line to take selfie just so you can tell people you went there, then go ahead. Otherwise, I will choose red star over furgburger anyday.

A great spot for some gourmet burgers. Red Star never disappoints and they always seem to offer some pretty creative burgers. Their shakes are also a must try. They don’t have the biggest seating so if it’s busy you may have to make a short walk to the lake and enjoy your burger off Lake Wanaka, which doesn’t seem like a bad option either. Treat yourself to a Red Star Burger!

Perfect post ski massive feed! Tucked away but don't miss it - epic sized burgers with large variety of super tasty combo toppings. Decent burgers and the kumera fries are great. Though our last visit the burger was slightly burnt. This was surprising as we have been going to Red Star for years and if it wasn’t take away we might have said something. Hopefully it is just a one off bad day.

Had the mango fandango (featured burger). Honestly went in there with average expectations but turned out to be one of the best burgers I've ever had. Cajun fries were excellent. Not quite enough aioli for the fries though (2 containers for the large size would be good) and the milkshake was a bit too thin. No doubt it's better than fergberger.

It is probably fancier than we expected and we had 2 really nice burgers with really tasty cajun fries served by freindly staff in a really nice atmosphere. Had Red ⭐️ this evening with the family. Was very impressed. Service was busy but food was still prompt and delicious. Young woman on the front counter was polite and calm, even with all the orders coming out, walk-ins, and phone ringing.

UNBEATABLE! The burgers! The fries! (cajun especially!) My go to food spot after a ride, a swim in the lake, or a day on the powder. Why anyone would go over the hill to that... other burger joint is beyond me. Red Star is where it's at. No long queues, no massive crowds, just a good steady stream of customers all getting their fix. Love it. I'm hungry now.

We arrived short before closing and had to take away a blue cheese burger so I can just judge based on this experience, but it was worth 6 stars! The bun was good, the sauce excellent and the meat tasted like good quality. The prices are honest, from 12 to 17$.

But this place, the red star is really good, definitely will go back if I can. It's worth all the dollars you will pay. Alexane, the person at the counter is really lovely. Big burgers, good fries. Had the BBQ beef one. It's a decent burger, and if your starting comparison point is McDonald's burgers, it's definitely amazing. However, if you compare to a good gourmet or cafe burger in for instance Copenhagen, this one would be just average, lacking in real flavor much like the New Zealand local beers for the most part. Can't quite understand the raving reviews from others. Maybe they just haven't tasted better :)

Good service, good and big burger. I ordered large fries qith my friend, good fries but a lot of salt. I chose a burger with blue cheese and mushrums and was really good and tasty. Not very expensive (14 dollars for the burger and 6 for the fries).

Came here on the strength of other reviews - while the service was very good and staff was friendly, unfortunately the burgers didn't match. We had the blue cheese burger and BBQ burger. They were not seasoned enough, felt like individual elements put together without being coherent (bun. beef patty. blue cheese. mushroom. lettuce. tomato. onion. carrot. Who puts carrots in burgers?!) It felt more like a salad bun with a beef patty - all individually acceptable but didn't work together... Nevertheless, it is a big burger, so all that aside, it easily fills you up.

I was wandering around town after all the other restaurants stopped serving food and happened to notice the sign on this place said open. I didn't really have any options for meals so I wasn't expecting much except to shut my stomach up. I'm not a fan of most burger 'bars', as I feel they all taste more or less the same (with the exception being Shake Shack) but when I bit into this burger I was really surprised to find that it was different from all the other droves of burger joints. This wasn't generic, and instead of staring into the abyss while shovelling a mundane burger into my mouth as usual, I was actually focusing on the flavours, then a smile formed across my face.

Best burger tasted in NZ!. Having tried both, personally, i think Red Star is better than Fergsburger in Queenstown, both in taste and the friendliness and efficiency of the staff.
