Reviews of Coene's Bar & Eatery
H.
We had a great time at coenes, such an amazing spot on a sunny day.
The Friendly service made us feel at home as we over indulged in the sun.
The Korean chicken was yummy and the tacos were also, my partners vege breakfast a hit also 3 from 3!.
Keep up the great work we will be back again and again. 5 stars all day!
A.
Great food! Great beer! Perfect view. Friendly staff!
A.
I enjoy going here for brunch, I have been a few times. It’s is often quite busy so you may need to wait for some time to be seated.
I always get the eggs bene, hollandaise sauce has just the right amount of vinegar, and potato hash is incredible.
Overall good food, great views, and pleasant staff.
S.
Fantastic service, views, and food! Always a fun atmosphere. Got the cheeseburger this time (tastes just how it should - yummo)! Accomodating with table number changes too. Thank you! Will be back for sure ❤️
j.
Really classy interiors with great veiws. 😸
Not the most exciting drinks ever, but still pretty good. ❤️
Delicious snacks menu. ✌️
Loved their work.
B.
Dinner was a birthday dinner for my partner.
On arrival - we were promptly shown to our table and advised of the changes COVID-19 Level 2 had incurred, namely single table-service only and a reduced menu, but they did have the added Roast Dinner
Soon afterwards, our waiter appeared with a complimentary glass of bubbles for my partner - advising that they were aware it was her birthday - and wished her a Happy Birthday on behalf of the business. What an awesome touch
We both opted for the Roast Dinner; chicken, with roast potatoes, parsnip, peas & gravy.
OMG - this roast was absolutely delicious!!
I don't generally eat parsnip - but the way in which these were cooked had me looking for more.
To finish the evenings meal - we both had the rice pudding - was to die for ...so tasty.
We both thoroughly enjoyed our dinner.
The service was prompt, yet unobtrusive - timely, yet sufficient time between courses so as not to feel rushed.
We both left feeling well satisfied and highly impressed with the quality of the meal, decor and standard of service.
Thanks to the staff for a great birthday dinner.
We will most definitely be back
A.
Came for lunch. Food looked like good pub food, but service was so slow we gave up and left after a beer. The view out the windows is great, but acoustics and muzak inside the pub are terrible, so i'd recommend sitting outside in the northerly and fighting off seagulls.
S.
Good food and friendly staff, love the spot on the oriental bay.
P.
I dined here on 26th of August with a couple of friends.
The service was great..... our waiter looked after us very well.
But we thought the food was very average especially my Scotch fillet steak which I had ordered medium-rare. But it came out bloody red and I had to send it back and when it came back it was medium to well done. It was also quite salty to taste.
My two friends however enjoyed their fish mains.
We also found the restaurant to be quite cold as l had to drape my jacket over my lap throughout the evening on a cold winter's night.
My caramel tart and ice cream dessert wasn't that nice either.... not worth the money paid for it.
A.
Awesome cafe. We loved the food here. Amazing risotto, calamari, superslaw salad, coffees, chai and kids meal. Such good food we had to come back the next day. Friendly staff and lovely views too.
K.
A very pleasant to dine in, beautiful harbour views, very good environment, beautiful services,
My favorite seafood 👍👍👍👍
My favorite dish has gone 😬 no Clams dish,?😬
A.
The food was so good. The service was excellent too. This place is great all round with a lovely view to enjoy while you're eating your food
S.
Sweet as environment, great service and products for a fair price.
S.
Great meal for lunch and even though it was busy the food came out quickly, was fresh and hot and delicious. Great cider recommendation as well. Friendly staff and beautiful views of the water. Will definitely be back.
R.
The location of the bar is great. It's very kids friendly. The staff provide very good service. A nice place to chill and have dinner.
We ordered the Catch of the Day. The fish didn't go very well with the Chinese style stir fry veg. Saw the meat which other tables ordered. They looked great! The dessert came with the kid's meal was the boom. Kids really loved it.
D.
Great small outdoor area. More varied menu would be awesome but good service and some of the best water views on town.
D.
Absolutely fantastic! What more can I say. Coene's has such a warm welcoming atmosphere and the staff is super friendly and helpful. The menu has a good verity and is reasonably priced. Complements to the chef for smashing it in the kitchen! The food was to die for 👌🏻 I can highly recommend Coene's for a great meal and a good night out. We will definitely be back.
y.
Me and My wife went without a reservation, but the staff was so accomodating and pleasant to talk to, let us dine. Food was exceptionally great. I had the best catch of the day in whole NZ. Spend good 3 hours with great view. Totally recommended for those who are visiting Weli.
K.
Perfectly blue steak and salad, plenty of great coffee and very attentive staff. Average as day, so felt a little blah. Aeronautical theme beside the sea was a bit (?).
F.
We went at lunchtime. I had my usual - fish n chips. The fish was warehou. The 2 pieces were small and a bit dry. The obligatory red cabbage slaw was not dressed. The price was about $7 higher than what I expect to pay in a place like this.
H.
Nice food ,good service reasonably priced...add midori too your bar selection !
C.
This place is yet to disappoint me! Always has too tier food, great customer service and great views.
J.
Great views. Friendly staff. The french toast was amazing. My daughter had the eggs Benedict and she rated it as good.
r.
Awesome food , fabulous ambience and lovely customer service and the best hospitality you can get in the city. All ⭐️
T.
Brunch here was absolutely delightful. The staff was very kind and helpful, especially Paul our server who looked after us.
Honestly the place to come on the weekend. The view thoooo, Tops!
R.
This place is great, the food has great quality and taste. My wife loved her chargrilled tune. Must visit. Oh, and a great view.
J.
After a less than reassuring first impression from the Maître D', Coene's (said "Ko-Ens") proved an absolute treat.
Start with the view, which you'll be spoiled with from ever seat in the restaurant. Food smacks of creativity without intimidating anyone. Offers great wines list, and chirpily expressed recommendations from the staff. Beers include the new Fortune Favours range that will enhance the lamb burger as easily as the posh fish'n'chips or the halloumi salad.
Great for big groups, and very family friendly without lowering the quality of the fare.
Go here to enjoy great views of Wellington and get harbour and be sure to enjoy delicious food from lovely staff.
S.
Food was fantastic, great service and awesome views across the marina.
Would be given 5stars if portions were a more generous. Left feeling like I could eat again.
Prices a little on the higher side but not so high you wouldn't go back. Loved it.
J.
Perfect spot for my first day in wellington. The views were pretty and picturesque, great service and delicious fish n chips! I would definitely go back.
W.
Attentive staff, prompt food and drinks per order. Medium raw beef overcooked but overall enjoyed the atmosphere and happy staffs definitely made the difference.
F.
Paul have been an excellent waiter. His Irish accent gives good Sunday morning vibes. I will recommend the place for sure.
A.
One of my fave spots to while away the day with friends. Exceptionally friendly and attentive service, delicious and interesting menu and the perfect location right by the boat sheds. Stunning on a perfect day and cosy on a wintery one. Great relaxed music and ambience. One of Wellingtons gems.
G.
The 'Wellington location' for super sea views and ambience on a good day. Add excellent beer, service and food. Try the quid and garage pale ale 😎
E.
They were very busy but we didn't have to wait long for a table. Trouble was the staff were rushed and disorganized. We sat for a long time before our orders were taken. 3 meals were brought out but it was about 10 minutes before the 4th came out. Same with drinks. Our waiter asked if everything was alright as he rushed past but didn't stop to hear our answer. 3 plates were cleared away but the 4th never was. We weren't asked if we wanted anything else. The food was pleasant but nothing compelling to go back for. Disappointing!
J.
Great service, yummy food, awesome view, what else could we ask for. The seafood risotto is to die for. Was gutted they changed to a new menu so no more cloudy clams but I'm happy with the risotto :)
S.
Tasty food, good service, stunning view. Recommended
F.
nice restaurant with ocean view & delicious food. you will like to stay there for whole afternoon for cafe when weather is sunny.
b.
Yum! This place is delicious! Great food - the chicken things and the cocktails! 💯
M.
The waiter was brand new, so the service wasn't great but we understood. The drinks, food, and view were wonderful. They only serve full menu during certain hours.
S.
#woap2019 #burgerwellington this burger followed by a reverse dessert was a fantastic start to Burger Wellington. Only gripe was that I only ordered one.
P.
Great simple well cooked food. Awesome on a sunny day with some outdoor seating. Awesome view of the harbour.
D.
Its a nice setting with views over the harbour. The food is ok but the menu selection is cut down on Sundays to make way for their Sunday Roast - why?? The wine selection is likewise uninspiringly small. But there's good news, they're in the entertainment book and don't charge extra for credit card payments. Plus, in the end, Coene's front of house person, Tabatha, provided us with outstanding service transforming our experience into a great evening out.
A.
Friendly, relaxed atmosphere with stunning marina views. The food was also delicious so we'll definitely be back again
B.
Gluten-free nirvana! Coene’s have a seperate GF deep fryer and serve the comfort food that coeliacs find hard to get... fried chicken, salt and pepper squid, hand cut fries, and more.
D.
Best brunch in such a long time
E.
Amazing food, lovely staff and a great setting ☺️
A.
Came for lunch. Beautiful spot on the waterfront, friendly staff and good food. Hope to return soon.
S.
Very good service, went out of their way to accommodate us for a late lunch, very happy
K.
Lovely staff, nice view of the harbour.
Not much non cheesy food to choose from.
S.
Good selection of cocktails. Staff were friendly and service was good
E.
Their starters or sharing plates are huge!!! Be prepared for a full meal!! Service is good, food is good and prices are good.
It's a nice place to go with groups or families with children. Nothing fancy, nice and basic.
O.
On the day I went in, they deserved 5 star from me. I could sit anywhere I wanted and chose the balcony with the harbour view. The male staff told me the difference between Pale ale and IPA. That was helpful. I wont't get confused with these two anymore. Calamari dish was tasty, too. Since they have spicy Korean chicken dish, I think option for spicy sauce for calamari would be good, too. Just my thought.
D.
Brilliant. The guys did a fantastic job and me and mum had a brilliant lunch. Cheers
L.
Salmon Poke Bowl was dry and tastless, but service and view were great.
W.
I gave 5 stars for the good food even the servicing is a bit slow. We are enjoying so much of the food and it really surprised us.
W.
Amazing views, cool marina decor and delicious salmon.
D.
Nice view. Simple kiwi menu with good drinks selection
C.
Wonderful and attentive service, marvellous views and delicious food.
A.
Coenes is a Restaurant which overlooks Oriental Bay and we were happy to get a lovely evening weather wise. We had our niece with us and we went there during the week to fit in with her schedule, on a Wednesday night. There were quite a few people in the Restaurant when we arrived. We were fortunate to get a table by the window, so we had a lovely view of the sea yacht’s etc. This is a place where you can have reasonably priced dishes or to push the boat out they become a more pricey. Was easy to do a we had been given a voucher for $100.00. One dish was a very ample plate of Mussels in gorgeous broth which we all partook of, after polishing off the Mussels. The second dish was Scallops in a lovely sauce with Ciabatta toast. Very much enjoyed by all again.
P.
Lovely service. Perfect gin and tonic, beer are a bit expensive but the view and the service are both amazing.
K.
Great menu, great service; all round a lovely evening.
來.
Absolutely the best Halloumi fries ever!
S.
Really nice atmosphere.
A.
Busy place . But quite rightly as the food and service were great
L.
Great food and best view.
H.
Beautiful evening and the view from our table was lovely. Very friendly service from the start through to the finish. Our server was very busy so it was an hour before we received our drinks. She did give us a nod and acknowledged we were there/would be with us soon, which is a good thing. My daughter ordered a burger, which she said was very good. My son ordered Where's Michelle, the WOAP dish. It arrived but seemed to be missing or unable to be seen, three ingredients listed on the menu description - green tea gel, yogurt foam and caviar pearls. The single scallop was burnt to heck. Pretty disappointed about this dish. They were out of stock of a few menu items so must have been a busy night in the kitchen which happens, I just wonder if that is why the WOAP dish came out as it was?
O.
I had the big cook-up. It was great. I was hungry and it hit the spot. My wife is gluten, dairy, nut, egg free. She ordered the coconut salad and said it was great too. Nice view as well
A.
Friendly and very welcoming place. Great views over the harbour. Wonderful staff, very attentive. Good selection of drinks. Went in as a group of 7 (4 Adults and 3 Kids) All the food was beautiful and arrived very quickly. We will definitely be eating here again.
F.
What a manager!
Everything was awesome!!
Except the Irish accent !
Be back for some other round of mimosa :)
c.
The food was excellent albeit the menu quite limited we had ceviche entree and I thought it was delicious the main meal presentation looked 5 star and did not disappoint. We had to look hard for desert menu and our hostess advised us of the only 2 choices which came out like they were from Lonestar or Cobb & co style, the chairs we sat on could have had cushions or some padding too, not very good.
K.
Lovely view and delicious food. We were seated at a booth down the back of the restaurant and it wasn't too noisy. A little warm but it was expected as the day was hot. The seafood chowder was better than I had expected and dessert was so good that I was almost disappointed that I was sharing. All in all, great place with lovely staff. 10/10 recommend this restaurant.
F.
Amazing staff with a menu that kids absolutely love! Went here with my 10 year old and he got to make his own pizza for lunch. Adults food is pretty good too!
I.
Smaller menu than before but everything we had was very good, done just right, from the calamari to the lamb chops. Very thoughtful staff and chef to give me a birthday treat as we were celebrating my birthday that night. Nice touch. We've been here a few times and each time food was consistently good! Would recommend!
G.
Bhudda bowl for 28 bucks.. With literally $2 worth of ingredients..
F.
Stunning views out over the marina and the $5 mimosa special on Saturday is fantastic. The staff are all very lovely and friendly.
I've had a few challenges when trying to cater for dietary requirements but overall it's a beautiful place and I keep going back :)
My friends highly recommend the pancakes.
S.
Lovely staff and divine food with a really good atmosphere
M.
Very decent and perfect view place near waterfront oriental bay. not expensive and the staff is very good. Food is amazing . Ambiance is perfect !!
S.
Really great food, fish and chips were great (slaw could do with a bit more ) great option of battered, grilled and crumbed for your fish which is awesome!!! Would recommend to anyone, service was a little lacking but they have been pretty busy all day!
P.
Food was very good and tasty, however the noise was ultra extreme. There were patrons that had the idea that the place was specially reserved for them and did not consider any of the other customers.
N.
Great place to come for a drink or bite to eat at all hours of the day. Love the decor, spacious filled with light overlooking the harbour.
S.
We all really enjoyed our meals, although it would have been better if our steaks were hot, mine was on the cold side of warm, the chips had the perfect amount of crunch, and soft an fluffy inside, the snapper was good too, although the vegetable component needs work. Our waitress was very nice, and helpful with our unique dietary requirements. Some of the family ordered the date pudding, this was enjoyed, there we comments around the table that it would have been better if it had whipped cream.
N.
Really like this place. Awesome small menu that changes enough to stay fresh. Decent coffee and drinks, lovely environment and professional staff. I take my family here quite often for brunch now and it's up there as one of the best IMO.
M.
Food on a Sunday and I must say Paul my server what an awesome dude. He steered me towards a better dinner choice of Roast of Sunday instead of my moment of snacks. I had the Scotch fillet MR of course and it was perfect, veges and a jar of gravy!!! Thanks guys!!!!
W.
Lovely place outside in the sun. Food is good
B.
Highly recommend this place.
Staff, food and view is one greatest in town.
Staff is super professional and friendly. Great management and culture for sure.
Thank team and see you again in a couple of days/hours (?!)
T.
Love this cocktail 🍹
G.
Food was delicious and the view was lovely!
J.
Amazing breakfast spot. Wonderful courgette fritters. Highly recommended even without toppings. Always have amazing coffee. Staff are probably the most sincere and friendliest I have encountered in Wellington. I have only had good experiences here and I have been nearly every weekend since arriving in New Zealand 8 months ago. Well priced too! View of harbour is very calming.
H.
Wonderful and delicious food. Our waiter was awesome and made sure we were well looked after. Defs going back there again.
O.
I've typically had good experiences in the past but my most recent visit was a bit disappointing. Though the hostess was nice, she sat me at a table that was marginally clean with visible crumbs. After she poured water in a glass that had visible dried lipstick marks I decided to speak up. The barista with a beard took care of it by grabbing a clean glass but became very patronizing... Asking if I wanted silver ware with my fries..... The food tastes good but sanitation especially post COVID was very concerning......
P.
Great place, loved the food and the service was amazing!
T.
The staff were friendly and helpful. The venue looks high end. Our food was great. However what I really liked about this place was the setting.
Being able to sit outside on the balcony and take in those harbour views while having a glass of wine with lunch was brilliant.
M.
Views out to the harbour and a choice of tables or booths. Great brunch options all a bit fancy and yum, and a range of drinks. This is the place to start your day on the waterfront.
J.
good coffee , energetic friendly staff.. eggs bene needed a little work. grilled bacon was burnt, overpowered the taste.. potato cake was luke warm at best.. great view but fairly noisy inside.. shame the weather was too cool to absorb the harbour atmospere
A.
Ended up coming here for breakfast which overall was a bit of a let down.
The breakfast itself wasn't too bad but it was definitely not worth the money we paid for it.
My girlfriend had a vegetarian breakfast and thought the exact same as me.
You're pretty much paying for the location rather than the quality of the food. Would recommend coming here if you just wanted drinks.
J.
Really great food and great service. Probably the best breakfast we had in Wellington. I lovvvveeed the mushrooms. Plus we had $5 mimosas and the view is unbeatable.
A.
Absolutely amazing. A group of 12 of us went here for dinner so we got to taste a wide range of the menu, and each and every meal left us absolutely 100% satisfied. Dining area was beautifully set up and staff acted as though they loved their jobs and we're friendly and interactive throughout the night. Highly recommend this restaurant for any sort of function.
S.
Excellent food, beautiful relaxing atmosphere, friendly staff. 10/10 experience. Compliments to the chefs for our meal. We had the shelled mussels w/ white wine & garlic + the rib eye steak meal, absolutely perfect!
L.
Excellent place! Had the best brunch ever. I had it twice. (Can't tell you what it was, my best kept secret!) Pity they always have a long wait for Sunday lunch and don't take small bookings but i guess they can't help being so popular!
A.
Can't fault it. Warm, pub-like atmosphere that continued to impress as the experience continued. We were treated to three courses of expertly cooked food, delivered in a friendly, timely manner. All you would expect from such an establishment. It's great to order a steak medium rare and actually receive it that way! Not to mention the views.
B.
We had a big party to celebrate my birthday. The staff were marvellous. Couldn't be more helpful wonderful food all brought out together. Very impressive! Thank you. It was a great brunch
F.
Dissapointing experience. 5 of us ordered a menu which says crispy skin. It took a very long time to come, and when it came there were no crispy skin at all. After we asked, then the staff said there was a problem with one of the appliance in the kitchen. They should've told us when they knew that so we can order aomething else. The taste was just okay and to make tgings worse the staff that was in charge was not friendly at all. Not coming back
T.
Stunning food! Difficult to choose. The service is very friendly and relaxed.
Specially good if you go with children
S.
Super lovely and cosy venue right next to the harbour. The staff is very friendly and helpful. We decided to have our Christmas party at Coene's and we won't regret it. They have helped us out by providing microphones for speeches, music, a gift table and much more. Keep up the good service!
A.
Excellent food. Wait staff friendly but not that smart... edamame is a vegetable, not a cheese (!!), and knowledge of wine matches would've been helpful. No serving utensils provided with sharing plates. Really nice, just a bit under par for such an expensive place. Two course meal with drinks for two cost $152.
J.
We had a big party to celebrate my birthday. The staff were marvellous. Couldn't be more helpful wonderful food all brought out together. Very impressive! Thank you. It was a great brunch
M.
Good food, great service!
K.
Coene's is beautifully located in Oriental Bay. The food is excellent and well priced. Staff are pleasant and efficient. The views (on a good day) are spectacular and excellent even when it's not! They can cater for large groups. An excellent choice for whichever meal or snack takes your fancy.
K.
Great atmosphere, beautiful view and great selection of drinks. Food is always well prepared and their brunch menu is to die for. Limited vegetarian mains, however they have wicked sides to do a mix and match meal.
M.
Best seafood risotto and fish n chips for lunch
C.
Best place to eat in Wellington
Thank you so much Joe! (From Yorkshire) for our best night yet.
Best mussel broth ever! Cannot waste at all. Cheers to the chef!
Regular visitors and will always recommend.
L.
Great food! Loved sharing platters. There is not many restaurants who serves healthy food and snack size meals - little heart melters and tummy fillers. Drinks list a bit pricey but we loved the food!
S.
Food very pretty, good portion sizes. Just not the best I've had. Service was quite good, prices bit more than I would pay for the food. Worth revisiting though.
P.
Had brunch there recently. Nice venue and staff. Food was mostly pretty good although the sourdough bread was a little tough.
D.
Great food and service. Normally don't have 3 courses but it was so good we wanted to try. First plate was mussels as a starter... 18 of them! Good value for money. Definitely go there again.
S.
They have good customer service, and the food is delicious. 😊
A.
Great location with view to Wellington harbour. Watch the boats rocking in the swells. Catches the sun in afternoons, nice sun trap. Pity windows old style as often window bars across view. Good food all tasty. I had the salmon with pea and mint rissotto. Not particularly minty but tasty all the same. Prices are more than average. Decor funky.
B.
Delicious cauliflower salad and steak mains, with a great view of the harbour. Tasty espresso martini as well!
T.
Friendly and considerate staff in a great location. Solid gin selection and tasty food.
h.
Came here for brunch on Saturday. The place was buzzing. Our waiter was friendly and the food was amazing recommend the french toast, they also had sanitizer on the table which was a nice touch.
L.
Great spot and service. Food a little let down unfortunately probably wouldn't return given such an amazing selection in wellington. Had lamb burger and chips for $26. Lamb tasted really fatty and served warm not hot for $26 expected something of really high quality. Cant beat location though :-)
T.
Only had drinks on the deck which was very nice and would recommend. Menu items did look good and the restaurant looked nice with plenty of seating. Staff were nice and prices were on par with other restaurants in the vicinity.
S.
Had the pistachio crusted rack of lamb tonight (absolutely incredible) , My partner had the gluten free cauliflower salad that was so good she wants to return next week for more . The staff were very welcoming and friendly , recommended dishes and new what they were talking about .
Honestly one of my most memorable nights dining out.
Will be back for sure.
G.
Good simple food cooked well. Staff were attentive and help and the views over Wellington harbour were superb, especially on a calm night. If the weather is on your side, I'd recommend an outside table.
B.
Terrific spot on the waterfront at Oriental Parade. Wellington on a plate burger was top notch. Meals were excellent and timely despite being very busy. Budget for about $50 a head plus drinks
T.
Highly recommend. Had lunch. Food was great seafood Chowder, Clams all superb and reasonably priced. Staff very efficient
Will be returning.
L.
Nice views. Great food. We didn't book so seating wasnt great. Will book next time.
We returned and booked the second time. Lovely food, outlook and friendly staff. We will go again. Highly recommend
B.
Great and friendly staff. Great food, cocktails and atmosphere.
I'll happy to come back every time I'm in town
L.
Had a fantastic experience at Coenes from beginning to end! Amazing friendly service, great atmosphere with great tunes and mouth watering food. Money well spent, highly recommend. And you have to try the lamb rack, you will not be disappointed!!
N.
Went for brunch and it was absolutely amazing . Service took a while to order and get coffees but food came out super fast and I couldn’t fault it. Absolutely stunning and compliments to the kitchen - double cooked French toast was bloody amazing . Never change .
R.
Great Brunch menu!
$5 mimosas!
K.
Always an amazing experience at Coene's BAr & Eatery. Great location, fantastic food and wonderful staff. Especially Will blow us away yesterday with going the extra mile. Thanks so much for a great evening! Definitely will be back soon ;-)
B.
Can't be beaten for its location on a good day! Sitting out on the deck in the sun was pure bliss watching the boaties attend to their yachts while we ate.
The Rose Spritz was delicious and as they have loads of options for gluten free people....I got to eat fried chicken, salt and pepper squid and halloumi chips which usually aren't GF.
The staff are really nice too.
S.
Birthday brunch. Stopped in for brunch, hotcakes are yummy. Coffee cups could be a little larger and coffee a little stronger
But will visit again. Nice to be able to have a window seat and look across the water over to the cbd
S.
Love it here! I'll probably go to Coene's once every couple of weeks. Lovely views, food, drinks and staff. Just book if you're thinking about going on a Friday or Saturday night. It's a popular place so it get s busy!
P.
Warm relaxed friendly service and the korean chicken and squid rings we had were terrific. Plus a great view!
I.
Really great location and view out over the marina. However, there was a long wait for food to come out. Felt like my hotcakes were very dry and only came with a single piece of bacon 🤔 service there wasn't too bad. I would like to see what it was like when it's not so busy, but feeling average about it so far.
G.
I liked it, I had the muscles!! They were so good and love how they do their gin and tonic. On the cauliflower I thought they had a bit much sauce but very good, good view and good place.
R.
My wife and I had a meal tonight at this restaurant, the service as usual was excellent, We ordered fish and chips for my wife and I ordered the tenderloin of pork wrapped in bacon, once again as usual the presentation was good, however I could not eat my pork as it was so salty, the waitress did approach the chef who stated this is the way the dish is served, while I realise that salt enhances the flavours of food, this was extreme, the waitress did ask if I wanted something else but I declined. we had no apology from management, but they did not change us for our bread starter.
I would suggest the chef learns how to season food, as the amount of seasoning on my dish totally ruined a lovely well cooked piece of pork
M.
Amazing burger (the beef burger)
Nice casual attentive service
Well priced
Good strong coffee
Squid was dry however
View and ambience really nice
A.
Service was 'ok' as staff were quite friendly but menu was a bit limited before 5.30pm. They brought out our food only for someone to abruptly come back over 30 seconds later to try and take it off us again because 'that's not your food' and the order was for a different table. Awkward given we'd already tucked in. Mistakes happen I guess but they weren't that busy and then we heard the table that should have had it complaining about not having their food 10 minutes later. Just left us feeling a bit under the spotlight and part of the other table's inconvenience.
K.
Really like the venue - great view. Service was ok (waitress got sidetracked and forgot to bring drinks) and the food delicious. Overall, had a very nice evening and would go back.
A.
We called up at 7pm on a Friday night to see if we could take 30 people for dinner. Nothing was a problem, they fitted us all in and the service was excellent!! The food is superb. Highly recommend...
B.
Great brunch with cocktails 😍
S.
Excellent spot especially on a beautiful sunny Wellington day. My poached eggs were a bit well done so when I cut open there wasn't the magic of the flowing yolk. My husband had the fish chowder and felt it was a bit uninspired.
t.
great views and service and huge drinks list
D.
Good stuff. Called in and tried their banoffee pie which was delicious. Great views over the water. Open later than a few other places around town.
Very friendly staff made our evening more enjoyable. Highly recommend this place and it is great to have a walk along the waterfront afterwards.
P.
We always enjoy Coene's. Excellent good, good service and fabulous views. Disappointed tonight that the points system was down once again. Hospitality really need to do something about their system.
D.
Lovely views and good drinks selection. Just stopped in for a drink and a plate of fries with my daughter. Quick service and reasonable prices.
H.
Good food, but bit expensive
a.
Awsome meal here.service was great.
Only negative was the entree of scallops.very very tiny, abnormally small.
But squid and steaks were amazing.
s.
Staff seem inexperienced, weren't sure which menus to serve us but their attitudes and services were good and got it sorted quickly. The food was a bit of a wait- some communication problems between waiting staff and kitchen. Food was good and the view was what we wanted for a sunny Sunday afternoon.
V.
Great service and delicious gin cocktails! Right by the waterfront so the views are fantastic. Highly recommend.
L.
Nice ambient, good food but portions small. Had a very tasty lamb burger, the patys were the size of a slider though. Brunch dishes looked very good
J.
Waiting is pretty much mandatory. It's a busy place. Menu is interesting, there's usually a twist to the meal and generous sizing.
Ooooo I had a "Bloody Mary" for the 1st time.
Whew.. Be prepared
B.
Absolutely beautiful wine and food.
C.
After a walk on the waterfront I stopped off in coene’s bar which is a wonderful spot on the seashore. I got a cocktail which was amazingly tasted and a desert which was incredibly good and creative !
To whom will pass through this place I recommend to have food in there !
Thanks for this good moment
K.
Very good food and service. I wouldn't hesitate to dine here again. Also great with children top marks for Coenes
A.
Coene's has always been a favourite on a sunny afternoon to sit looking over the water and have some sangria. I have taken both my parents and my in laws here on separate occasions, and each time we end up spending hours. Their little plates are great to share and I highly recommend the halumi chips and the salt and pepper squid. Also, if you like gin and orange marmalade, go ahead and order the breakfast martini off menu - its incredible.
R.
This Is Wellingtons hidden wee Gem , Great Food , Lovely staff , cool vibe and good music ...Plus.. Amazing harbour views !. We're Aucklanders down here on a work project for a year and living nearby . We eat out a lot and love good food and service. We found this place by accident and it ended up being our go-to spot . Just as good for Dinner , breakfast and a late lunch and cocktails on a Sunday afternoon . Well Done Guys .. we'll put the word out for you in AKL .
A.
Great spot with beautiful views over the harbour. Delicious food and great service. The new dessert menu is on point.
D.
Excellent restaurant, great location overlooking the harbour. Professional staff and quality food
R.
Excellent all-round, exceptional service & great food, great views & friendly staff, had to go back for a second night.
T.
Nice views (every table), nice staff, nice food and a good range of drinks. Fairly popular so booking normally a good idea. Bit on the higher side in terms of cost but not excessive and a fair price for the place.
A.
Beautiful setting overlooking the marina at Port Nicolson. Food is tapas style small plates and I've tried many. One of my favourties is the chicken salad. Service could be a little friendlier but most of the staff are French so it may just be a language barrier.
R.
Sunday brunch. The coffee was ok ... We sent back the undercooked rosti, and they came back barely cooked. I don't send things back a second time There are way too many options to try to be bothered going back ... so, OKish.
A.
Great view, brilliant food. One of those fancy places but definitely worth a visit. Loved their Coene's cookout.
B.
Great views of numerous attractive vessels. Think the chips were good, and there was some sort of cheese board or similar. 17/10 anyway.
H.
Views? Stunning
Food? Delicious
Staff? Lovely
Menue? Good range!
A.
Amazing place. Nice atmosphere, great food, polite attentive and cheerful staff.
C.
This was Wellington on show. A clear, almost windless Wellington winter day and sitting on the deck eating eggs and drinking coffee. A mix-up was quickly and cheerfully fixed (eggs delivered poached not scrambled) and the food was quite nice indeed. Not too expensive, and you can take a stroll along the waterfront when you're done. Quite pleasant.
G.
Good selection of beer and food is good. Great views over marina and harbour. Service is prompt and attentive. Suitable for smalI groups with noisy background atmosphere. I will be going back
D.
My last visit was during Wellington on a Plate and received only 2 stars. My latest visit has restored my judgement of this establishment - service was wonderful and the quality of their food had returned to exacting standards.
H.
Great service and the food was good too
M.
Such a lovely location on the waterfront. Very attentive staff went the extra mile and when they noticed it was Grandmas birthday acknowledged it with a glass of wine. Very impressed with food and service.
G.
Excellent food, excellent service
B.
My best spot in Wellington for best value seafood. The calamari is top notch, clams and mussels are a treat, fish and chips is huge and very tasty.
S.
Faantastic as per usual.. disappointed with the brunch this time when there a week ago & with presentation but staff or management male & female rectified it graciously they were great! Sorry i did not catch their names
So that made up for the disappointment & hence i zipped down to New World to buy a big box of Chrissy buscuits to say thank you! .. sooooo ......
THANK YOU & Namaste Coene cafe bar restaurant it is one of my fav locations when visiting family from Sydney
Merry Christmas Happy Holidays guys see you this Sunday with the girls for brunch ! & bloody marys! Lol
E.
Best sunset bar in Wellington
J.
Good food, great service, lovely views. Cater very well for people with gluten allergies. Would definitely go back again!
J.
Scotch fillet was rubbery, needed a lot of chewing!!
S.
Great service, ambiance and views. 5/5 for all those, 4/5 for the food. We had shared plates and some arrived at our table colder than expected.
K.
Pretty nice location for a bite to eat or a drink. Dont bother with the truffle mac n cheese. Completely flavourless. The salads and steak was good though
d.
Lovely little place. We didn't eat, but the service was nice and the view is amazing.
M.
Great food and a great view. Despite a busy day and with no booking, the waitress managed to get us a table. Good lamb burger:)
S.
Awesome spot, great view from the balcony. Loved the vibe! Music really set the mood. Food came out really fast and was delicious. Highly recommend 👌
A.
We went there for brunch and was delicious but if you want to go there at a sunny day you must call them for reservation so you won't have to wait so long for a table
a.
Nice ambience, nice food
N.
Beautiful food, excellent service and awesome views right on the water. You can't book but I've never had to wait long, they run a good wait system here.
H.
Lovely attendance.
Tasty food.
The popcorn chicken has cinnamon, I am not a fan, but was good.
N.
Went to dinner tonight and was very impressed with the quality of the food and service. It was a pleasure to be waitered on by such cheerful people and the view of the harbour was stunning. Thanks for a lovely night in the capital.
H.
The food is standard. Nothing to write home about. Very unfortunate though as it is at a perfect location and the staff is also really friendly and accommodating. Must say that everytime I have been there the chefs screw up atleast one meal for the table.
N.
Good fish and chips. Loved the lemon and lime drink.
M.
Great place! Views are stunning, staff is very friendly. They have delicious seafood chowder.
H.
Great service, excellent food and beer. I'll be going back for sure.

S.
Awesome location, great menu and views and cool staff. You looked after our group of 16 really well. Loved it
M.
Great view (must be one of the best in Wellington on a good day). Good bottle beer selection, although pretty poor taps. Food selection changes regularly.
B.
Great food and views for all. Amazing kids menu with make your own pizza and burgers
B.
They were really busy and we still got great service. They have a good kids menu, complete with puzzles and colouring pencils. We loved it.
J.
Beautiful serene views. Lovely friendly staff. Best crispy fries ever! It's a little bit pricey, but it's worth it.
W.
Great views. Foods pretty decent and prices are fair
J.
Only had a beer, but the food looked good and the service was great.
N.
Had the Snapper which was nice. Halloumi fries average. Quiet night. Waited 15 mins for drink. Poor service
J.
What fabulous service, ask Katie to assist you for drinks, food, events or functions. The staff are great, food and service excellent, as they remember you! Highly recommend.
M.
Food was great and good vibes in there would definitely be coming back 👌
M.
Excellent food and great service. And great view of the harbour.
L.
When we went to Coene's for our friend's 50th birthday, food and service were great. However, the three times we've been there for a Saturday lunch, food was ok but service was so slow.
M.
Was an awsome place to stay very clean tidy service awsome and the front of house staff highly recommend them very warm welcoming place to stay
A.
Wonderful food at reasonable prices.
Very friendly and knowledgeable staff.
Nice views over the harbour.
Pleasant atmosphere.
J.
Good layout. Nice pull back windows for fresh air and ambience. Casual day menu is OK good selection of wet stuff from the bar.
l.
Good cheese board and good view.
L.
High quality, exceptional dishes, not the usual crap you get in most places in Wellington. Tried scallops and venison and both were perfect.
N.
Food not very good roasted cauliflower salad seemed to be missing l also very noisy place
P.
Good food but also a bit pricey for brunch, drinks are cheap though. Great views

P.
Delicious food and wine. Staff very friendly
D.
One of the best restaurants in Wellington with great food and amazing view across the harbor. Nice and friendly staff, make reservations on weekends
L.
Ok. Quite quiet for a Friday night. You need to order lots of tapas as the portions are small so therefore work out quite expensive for a shared dinner.
a.
Great ambiance, didn't have a lot as just went there for a meeting 😊
V.
Great service and awesome meal. Great view as well, would definitely recommend coming for lunch again.
A.
Lovely venue and great views just wish they had more vegetarian options and I don't feel they update their menu often at all
L.
Most of the time the food is really good. Most plates are to share. Good for big groups.
The menu changes weekly.
Awesome views of the harbor
