Reviews of Fidel's Cafe
S.
We visited this cafe for brunch, on our trip to Wellington. This place was extraordinary!! The samosa was so light n yet crispy on the outside bringing out all the beautiful flavours , Fidel’s feast was delicious n perfect for brunch and not to forget , the Cuban burrito was a massive hit !! Loved every bit of food which was on the table. Also to mention, the service was really good n pretty fast even though the place was crowded. Definitely looking forward to our next visit.
S.
I went here for brunch after ages and nothing had changed (in the nicest way possible) - delicious food and coffee, friendly staff, cosy, hippy and colourful place. I tried the smashed avo and it was really good. A big thumbs-up to food, service and place.
D.
Very cool cafe! Atmosphere is really enjoyable and the coffee is some of the best I’ve had. I normally have a little milk in my coffee, but I didn’t even want to add milk to the coffee because it was so delicious. We also tried the breakfast burrito and the chicken and waffles, both which were delicious. The staff here was really friendly as well. Overall it’s just an awesome little cafe with great coffee and food. What more could you want?
B.
Great food and staff. The cafe feels very cozy and the outside eating is cute, with retractable roof for when it rains. I give it 4 as previously they had plenty of vegan options available, many of which were tasty, however semi-recently they have removed a lot of their pizzas from the menu, leaving vegans with not a lot of choices, although they are still very tasty. Eating inside can feel a bit cramped when the cafe is very busy, and if you have a group larger than 4 it is definitely worth calling ahead of time to secure seating.
S.
The best comfort food in Wellington, if your here on a trip you HAVE try this place, chicken waffles the best I've had
D.
In my 4-day vacation here in Wellington, I visited Fidel’s three times. Yep, that’s how good this place is. Was able to try their chocolate Thickshake, Baked Spanish Eggs, and cheese scone. The highlight though is their coconut flat white which is just amazing!! Staff was also super friendly and just the right level of chatty. Ambiance is also light, informal, and very indie feels 👍

First time in ages I have been to Fidels. Which must be a serious misdemeanor considering how close it is to where I live!! Anyhow. COVID-19 protocols handled really well and one of the few that have asked for proof of vax. Well done guys! Great service. Attentive and very friendly. The burrito that I had was superb. Eggs with beans how could you go wrong? Had an OJ as it was a warm day; good quality juice too. I'll be back cos the cabinet cakes always look tempting. Enough variety on menu to please everyone. An Wellington iconic eaterie!
D.
Friendly service and nice atmosphere. However food was mediocre. We ordered the cuban burrito (quite lacklustre) and the fidel feast. My poached eggs were overcooked and the meal was dry.
H.
Great place! We ordered flat white and Turmeric latte, which both tasted mellow positive. We had vegan bowl that was yummy and delicious. Other tables ordered some nachos and snacks, which looked really good. The atmosphere was cozy and clean. Quick and nice service. A solid 5 star and will go there again.
P.
Excellent food, friendly staff and well-portioned for the price. The place is cosy and provides a quirky hipster vibe. It fits very much with Wellington City. Do note that it gets busy, so you may have to wait anywhere from 15 minutes or more to get a seat.
S.
I use to go here a few years back and thought I'd show my siblings a cool spot while we visited. Although the vibe stayed pretty similar to what I remembered, the kai was pretty average and overpriced. I did get something quite basic though but the other options weren't too appetising. Maybe I'll try something different next time and place another review. The service was awesome though, friendly and fast.
M.
One of Wellingtons best cafes - have been going here from more than 20 years. Great food and coffee, with friendly staff located in really neat / quirky historic buildings.
E.
Good options for vegan people. Nice friendly service and cool outdoor space. Love the vibe
L.
I enjoyed my lunch at Fidel’s. The beef and bacon burger had a surprising amount of flavour. Didn’t receive many fries, but what I received were very good. Plenty of seating, especially for a place on Cuba Street. Atmosphere was a bit loud. But overall, it is a good place for a decent meal!
D.
The service was a bit lacking, but the food and coffee were good. The Eggs Benedict were a little plain with just eggs over salmon or bacon, it would've been nice to have some greens on there, but the flavor was great. Their waffles were nice and fluffy, too.
L.
I love Fidel's, from the decor to the food and staff.
Very atmospheric and buzzy place to go to enjoy wonderful coffee and food.
I had the vege samosa which was spicy and yummy then topped it off with the most amazing chocolate and Raspberry cake, do try it you will not be disappointed. Oh and the coffee my long black was delicious.
The staff are both friendly and professional which makes is another bonus, nothing like being greeted with a happy face and friendly demeanor.
A.
Good cafe food! Serving sizes could be a bit larger, and the nachos could have had a bit more toppings!
S.
Good coffee, terrific food, good location in welly CBD, poor distinction between customer and staff members, incredibly poor layout of store and no space to move around at all. Admittedly, we arrived and it was packed! However, after a 15min wait to be seated we found a space in the corner window that was big enough for 2 people.
I had a really difficult time moving from our spot in the corner window to go to the till area and to the bathroom etc etc. Moving around the store is difficult given there is minimal room between the back of the seats as well as customers and staff all trying to move around the crammed area.
In the plus side, the food was really really good. we had nachos and some coffee. They were both delivered in a timely manner and we're hot and tasty. (No photos of the nachos sorry). The layout of the store is something to be desired but otherwise a good experience. Staff need name badges/uniform/cap to distinguish who the are. I made the embarrassing mistake of asking a patron if they worked there. (They were waiting by the till waiting to pay as well).
W.
I knew moving to Wellington was a great idea . Can't improve on other reviews , big tasty bellyful and great coffee hit . Pleased AF to be in the same city . Happy to see Fidels has embraced Vaccine passports too, Cherry on the top !
J.
Food was very ordinary for the hype and the price - not worth the stop, at least based on the food we got.
The Cuban sandwich was made with meats that were just weird in the sandwich, and it just tasted like a cheap attempt at a replica. The burrito was okay, but also not a standout.
Interesting stop for the ambience and decor, but not much more, unfortunately.
Z.
The place is so packed that I didn't dare to move. Prepare to starve before your food comes Cos serving time is very long during lunch time. Food is good but not surprisingly good.
J.
Nice cafe for brunch and the food was great too I made a stupid mistake Probably read it wrong the word Spanish to spinach from the menu. But the Spanish omelet turned out to be the best brunch for that day I love how they decorated the interior it is one of my favorite cafe in Wellington I would definitely go there again
E.
Always amazing service and food definitely got to have there fried chicken and waffles and banana thickshake!
D.
Fidel s is icon of good coffe in Cuba street, since i think twenty or more years, great food, place, service,.love visit Fidel s always, when seat there you are surender with pictures on wall great leader and icon of Cuba-Fidel Castro,.recomend this cafe to visit, have great coffe/food.
E.
I don't give out 5 stars very often, but fidel's got it all. A great atmosphere for families or after-work schmoozing, delicious food, great location and friendly staff. Just try and walk away without ordering any dessert!
J.
As always Fidel’s brings the delicious food to the people. Chicken waffles were excellent, coffee was strong and smooth, and the jumbo Oreo was rich and delicious. Took only 5mins to get a table on a busy Sunday morning, wait staff were friendly and efficient. Definitely a Wellington must do!
J.
Lovely cafe with excellent drinks and really lovely, friendly service. Thank you to all the wonderful staff, I really enjoyed my time here
E.
Very lovely cafe. Had a nice dinner there and it's very cozy. Portions are big and tasty and great selection too with reasonable prices. Muffins are yummy too :-).
C.
Cozy cafe. You can order to go or stay and enjoy the decor. They have two different rooms upfront and an outdoor space in the back, so there's lots of room, but it still feels cozy. Really good food, diverse menu.
S.
The coffee is good and the breakfast burrito was okay. The decor is fun and the staff are very nice but the food is a little overrated. I wish they prepared cuban coffee authentically!
D.
Great place for brunch with friends. Large portion sizes but quality and freshly-cooked. Bloody Mary’s hit the spot when accompanying Fidel’s Feast!
The ‘outside’ area - under the canvas roof - is great for accommodating large groups. As others have said, however, the interior is difficult to get around - to the toilets and/or till. Overall though, friendly staff and a good experience.
R.
Really friendly staff and great food. Had the Baked Spanish Eggs, they were amazing! Kids menu available and a good selection of drinks. Would definitely go again and I highly recommend it.
C.
Expected a bit more from this iconic cafe. Vegan breakfast was uninspiring though adequate. I hear the regular breakfast options are more impressive. Busy place so I’m sure they do lots of things right to have kept it that way for such a long time.
H.
Didn't take long for the food to get to my table. Food was good. Friendly customer service. If you have a chance, see if you can seat on the outside area. It's really cool setup.
A.
Came for lunch and loved it so much went back for breakfast the next day. Great prices and excellent food and I find that you get a good amount for what you pay, it's hard to break the bank here and harder to leave hungry. Good coffee, good "Cuban" food as well although I'd say it's more mexican. The pulled pork quesadilla was excellent but looked more like a burrito. And got the salmon bagel for breakfast. So filling. Would recommend 10/10
S.
Good food! Friendly staff. Usually very busy but the staff will seat you to their best capacity. Must visit in wellington
M.
Great place to meet up. This is a popular place so be prepared to wait. Good prices, attentive staff, variety of cabinet & menu food, alcohol if you want it, warm and cosy inside & a fairly enclosed outside eating area.
G.
I like that they make their own almond milk and have posters about their commitment to the environment about the cafe. The coffee was good. The food was okay. Cool chilled vibe and friendly staff so would visit again.
S.
Quaint and cool brunch spot on Cuba Street. Menu is extensive and believe they serve late into the evening. Great range of salads also available along with house brewed cold drip, fresh juices etc. Can recommend the Spanish eggs!
C.
Great vibe and reasonably priced food.
Worth a visit.
M.
My friend and I went there tonight n we were so impressed! We ordered chicken salad and spicy shrimp pizza, n both were so yummy! Especially the pizza, I definitely think it’s one of the best pizza I’ve ever had^^ Also the staff were super friendly, the environment was cozy, everything was perfect. Too bad I don’t live in Welly, otherwise this would be my regular place for sure:)
M.
Tasty food. Great atmosphere and nice heated seats in the back under the camo net.
F.
Nice place great food but food not hot , I know it was a busy day but still .
D.
Very tasty baked eggs here! Burned the roof of my mouth, but that's my own fault.
There is a sign on the wall that tells you to relax and wait to pay at the table... Ignore it and either ask for the check or walk up to the register to settle up. The waitress was super considerate and didn't rush the check on us, but we were waiting per the instructions on the sign.
G.
Always love coming to Fidel’s when I’m in Wellington! Great service, super friendly and welcoming staff, really good coffee and cake!
B.
Was ok were in there out door area on a windy day not recommended half my chips got blown off my plate the waitress moved us inside when a table became available food was ok had a Chocolate milkshake was the best ive ever had i would go back but only to dine inside
J.
Electric and cozy little eatery with a trendy crowd, good selection of breakfast food, cakes, and coffees. Staff was friendly and wearing curious outfits.
E.
Lovely food and service. Could do with more than one loo ( which was right next to a table of four.. no privacy)
B.
Great coffee (flat white) and cabinet food, vibrant atmosphere and awesome service. Definitely need to visit again on my next trip to Wellington and try out other items on the menu.
Building was also hard to miss even on a very rainy day.
M.
Little bit of a victim of own success.. staff little abrupt but ended up good food and atmosphere
T.
Great place great vibe great food.
However people working here could be more kind.
Cups arent clean so do check it before drinking water.
J.
If you’re getting the eggs Benedict, make sure you get the homemade hash on the side
Absolutely divine
R.
A Wellington institution. Funky and friendly. Always filled with coming and going customers. Many of whom look like they are true regulars. Recommended.
D.
It was really nice food, friendly employees..!
Thanks
D.
I came at a busy time and the staff were incredibly lovely and accommodating regardless. The orange juice was some of the best I'd ever had and their waffles & chicken are to die for.
J.
Amazing brunch!! Really cool place with amazing food. I had the chicken with waffles and a mango smoothie and it was all incredible. 100% recommend.
V.
Very warm and welcoming atmosphere with friendly staff and fast service. My partner and I had a very delicious meal. Mine was the halloumi burger (loved) and my partner ordered the beef and bean Nachos which she also loved. I suggest trying any of the milkshakes 😍 All up 10/10
W.
Great food selection, friendly staff and cool vibe
S.
Regularly return time and again for breakfast on the weekends. Great service and its always busy but with at most a ten to fifteen minute wait it's definitely worth it. I don't tend to stray to far from a big breakfast and coffee but my partner will usually have hollumi on toast which is delicious also. Would recommend to anyone wanting great food along with happy and friendly service.
D.
Very popular place on Cuba St with lovely outside seating. We had the Cubano Sandwich, touted as a classic, and it really did not disappoint! Must try! They also have a great assortment of very unhealthy but all the more delicious cakes on display. Go for it!
J.
Good food, great table service, price was competitive. I felt like I was back in Cuba vacationing as a rich European. I got the Fidel feast and a latte. The latte was amazing and the feast was more than filling.
G.
The Mexican pizza was yummy, mildly spiced with jalapeno, minced beef, peppers, cheese, topped with nachos and sour cream. Dough was crusty and chewy! Enjoy 1 large pizza and 2 bottles of Asahi for NZD 25 if u go from 3 to 7pm!
H.
Good meal and coffee, but a bit overrated. Hot chocolate was really nice. Service was alright.
E.
Nice and friendly service, food is ok (in morning), and perfect Cafe, the graden seat is highly recommend
T.
Me and my gf went there. Her menu said items from the lunch menu was available from 8am to 3pm. Lovely waitress said she couldn't order anything despite the menu saying otherwise, she also said my gf couldn't order anything from the kids menu because she wanted a small portion. A little confusing but otherwise ok. They should update their menus with correct times
A.
Great place! We ordered flat white and Turmeric latte, which both tasted mellow positive. We had vegan bowl that was yummy and delicious. f.
Relaxed atmosphere, interesting space, what we had was very yummy (Spanish baked eggs). Staff was nice and bonus that you can vape!
The only minus is that we ordered juices thinking they are freshly made, but they were from small bottles... $8 for a few sips.
A.
Always have loved this place.. Use to be my local back when I was at uni. The atmosphere haven't changed and the food is still delicious. Milkshakes are still the best in nz
C.
Friendly casual staff, attentive to dietary requirements, tasty food, crazy large serving size, good value for money
Context: dinner for one...I only managed to finish half and took away the rest for breakfast next day, in a carton container provided by staff
M.
I love the music, food & overall vibe of this cafe!
k.
The vibe is not there, the prices are a bit high. The food is decent. The mack toastie is bussin! Amazing!
R.
We’ve met friends for lunch and were impressed with coffees and meals, as well as this place’s quirky décor. Nachos were superb and the flat white is hard to match. A great fit to Cuba Street. This place has the best coffee I had in Wellington, the grooviest vibe and great music. What more could you want in a cool contemporary coffee house?
J.
Beautiful cafe in a great location on Cuba Street. Very good coffee and delicious food. Great vibe & music.
R.
It's Fidel's. Not much I can say about it that has not been said many times before. Good food, good coffee, an interesting space and hipsters as far as the eye can see. However, it's always busy with a longish wait to be seated. Also, food took a very long time to arrive. All and all a good place to be on a nice Saturday morning if you have time to spare.
G.
Again - an awesome lunch in a busy and vibrant Cafe. Staff really helpful, and the quality of food and coffee didn't disappoint.
M.
This place was nice enough, though not a very relaxing place for a meal. I think if you're looking for a place with lots of hustle and bustle then this is for you, we found it a bit much. The food was alright we thought, but very good coffee ☕👍
N.
Really nice, friendly staff, following all health and safety COVID regulations, checking COVID pass.
J.
Had coffee and a muffin in the morning everything was amazing. Muffin was still slightly warm from the oven and coffee was one of the best I've tasted ever. Waitress that brang my coffee and muffin was kinda cute... 5 stars all round!
A.
Great coffee, and friendly baristas. The queue to sit inside are horrible. Tried twice but always full with long waiting list; even around 3p. :( :( :(
E.
High recommended cafe to have your brunch. Remember to try their Banana / Banana Chocolate Milkshake 👍
E.
Had a waf it was good I got chicken and waffle and there was cream it was very good and I liked it a lot
J.
Delicious baked eggs, kind and friendly service. Great coffee. Can’t go wrong!
P.
Great food and excellent service. Thanks you very much.
J.
Really great tasting waffles and friendly staff
S.
Food was extremely good. Nice cafe
P.
Try a salted caramel thick shake with a shot of rum, stir well. The salmon was very tasty.
T.
Beef cheeks with couscous was very good. Nice lovely atmosphere.
B.
Cuba thematic restaurant, decoration makes you fell you are in a military camp. Food was delicious and the brownie with dulce de leche is a must have.
V.
Yum food and cabinet salad, coffee was nice too. Was very busy on 2nd Jan, but the wait was still not too long
A.
Delicious brunch! Fry chicken waffles was absolutely yum 😋
C.
Havana coffee served here. Gluten free, dairy free and refined sugar free options, including the salmon on GF toast. Cool vibe and friendly service.
P.
I've been there for breakfast and for arvo drinks. Great breakfast food and good coffee. The baileys coffee was great, need to go back to try the hot toddy! Cool vibe, relaxed service.
A.
HolyS!!! The baked Spanish eggs for brunch were insane!
Every bite got better and better, the eggs were perfectly cooked, runny middles, the potato was crispy and fluffy, the bacon was..., well bacon!!! perfection!! and add cheese, wow! bjesus!
Well done team, amazing! Such a good place to go! Thank you!!!
J.
Great coffee! Amazing shakes for the kids, fish tacos are just delicious 👌 and the caramel slice yummy! Good service too! Just a tad overpriced we feel.
S.
Friendly service, best coffee and great food
R.
Incredible quality quirky food, great vibe and lovely staff, always excited for a wellington trip because.
R.
Popped in for a thick shake while we were visiting Wellington. We had the black forest one and it was incredible! Highly recommended. They don't use plastic straws which was an added bonus. Thanks guys! The guy who served us was really cool too.
S.
Pretty standard fare for Cuba St, always packed out for brunch at weekends. Good vegan options. Coffee and food service can be slow esp on public holidays.
E.
Cool and popular place in Wellington CBD. I asked for a Cuban burrito, it was ok.
D.
Good Coffee, nice place to hang out
G.
The place was packed during the lunch time I went which my friend told me was the usual. We managed to get a seat out back which was nicer than the bustling inside. I ordered their tofu burger while my friend got the beef nachos. We also ordered one of the specialty teas and enjoyed that very much. I didn't mind the wait for the food because I knew how crowded it was but it did take a little longer than most cafes. However, I wasn't disappointed and hugely loved the food. The tofu in the burger was nicely crisp on the outside and the fries were coated nicely in some mild spice. It was a really filling meal. The cafe is very lovely but due to its constant hustle and bustle, I'd try coming here during their off times if you want a better atmosphere.
H.
Review update: staffs service is good if you go off peak times. Coffee is very nice as well as food. They also have a wide range of cabinet selections from vegan scones to carrot cake. Gets very crowded on weekdays and weekends as well. Music gets very loud during peak times. Limited inside seating but very good outside seating.
N.
Great vibe, a Wellington icon. An inseparable part of the Cuba St boheimian scene. Can't go past the Grilled Haloumi on toast.
E.
Great vibe and food, little else to ask for.
P.
intimate ,great food and lovely coffee, would definitely recommend
M.
A regular breakfast stop when we are in Wellington now. The staff are very good, the coffee and food are both excellent and always a great atmosphere. The only thing I could think to whinhe about, is it is so popular sometimes you have to wait for a table - but my advice is wait, because it is worth the wait.
R.
We were at the Southern Cross this morning and suffered terrible service and dreadful coffee. No pride in the work. Wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
Left and went to Fidel's and loved to vibe, coffee, food and great great service. We spent up large and would happily recommend and will definitely be back.
Thank you Fidel's!
T.
Excellent breakfast, good strong coffee! Nice atmosphere and chilled staff. Fresh squeezed juices were very nice. Update: it's been a couple of years and this place is still fantastic. Staff still superb, food is high quality. Upgrading to five stars.
R.
We came here at lunchtime on Monday. The menu is varied and interesting, with all day breakfast as well as lunch. My husband and I had the vegan bowl which was lovely although the chargrilled vegetables were roast vegetables. The added halloumi was delicious. The food took 45 minutes to come once we ordered which felt like a long time although luckily we had nowhere to be. It has a fun vibe.
A.
Love the Cubano, and the strawberry milkshake is great😘
s.
Very Cosy place where all kind of people meet and drink and eat because they have lovely tasty food and organic drinks. very nice people that make the place feel at home!
S.
I had the vegan breakfast here and an amazing coffee. There are so many vegan cabinet options that I wished I'd tried when I was there. Such a stylish place great food. Really nice and attentive staff. Who chooses the music because it was so awesome! Try the hash brown it's the best.
G.
Really good vibe, always bustling. Awesome mocha thick shake to accompany a delicious Cuban sandwich. Loved the paprika on the Fries. Excellent lunch and great staff
G.
Have never had anything I did not like here. So many good options and very friendly staff!
A.
27th Aug 1.30pm: Chicken halloumi salad, salmon bagel, banana smoothie (not cold/luke warm?), coffee & pot of herbal tea all tasty & good size servings for price. Not as many tables available due level 2 restrictions, we sat outside under cover with heater which was nice.
Only downsize was attitude of the 2 female servers today (1 shorter with black hair & 1 taller black dress brown hair). We tried to be super friendly & so did table behind us but got no response except ‘heres your table’ & ‘ready to order’ with very sour expressions. I was going to ask the taller one if she was ok (took our orders & served them) because she looked a mix between anger & deep sadness. Maybe due to covid? Are they getting paid enough, enough staff vs work ratio, any bullying going on there? Hope everyone cheers up soon.
D.
I used to frequent this cafe many years ago when my daughter was at Uni in Wellington, so was great to see this is still a humming cafe with a great vibe. We only had a short wait before a table was ready. Great selection of food both menu and cabinet. Options for many dietary requirements. Great coffees and all three of us were happy with our meals. If you are wanting your food in a hurry, then this may not be the cafe for you, as it can take a while for the food to come out, given they always seem busy. But great choice if you have time to sit.. atmosphere, staff, food and coffee are worth it.
D.
C'mon on Google, it's not fair to even ask this. This place has been my regular 15 years- for good reasons!
K.
A Wellington establishment - the food was good and so was the coffee, staff were friendly. (Breakfast burrito pictured below)
S.
Amazing breakfast and coffee. Went there twice just to try out the waffles with banana and bacon. Didn't disappoint. I had two cups of mocha as they were so good!
If you're in Wellington, must definitely come here once for breakfast. Friendly staff as well and might look small but quite spacious on the inside.
C.
We went to Fidel's for brunch. Great coffee and good food. Staff were very attentive. We sat out the back and were worried it might be too cold, however we were toasty under the gas heater
B.
Aptly Cuban on Cuba St. Ambience is uniquely Cuban, a nice difference from other cafes around. Suitable for families, friends or couple. Good spread on menu and on the shelf. We especially enjoyed the chocolate cake from the shelf, coffee and thick shakes from menu. Fried chicken and fries were a bit spicy- pls note if you are ordering for kids. We had a full meal for 4 for around NZ80.Would definitely recommend for breakfast or brunch. Can be packed so be prepared to wait. Service is fast and efficient. So ask staff for wait time for table/food.
K.
What a cool place, staff, food, music, vibe all awesome, loved it, highly recommend.
A.
Awesome place has lost some of it's old charm but mostly because of the no smoking out the back stuff beside that food was great service was fast and freindly
T.
Great food! We had steak, grilled chicken, vegan nachos and a custom-made pizza! All delicious! Yummy cocktails! Fabulous service! Super-quick, friendly and efficient! Wouldn't hesitate another visit! Thank you Team Fidel's 👌

Fantastic cosy busy cafe outdoor area at back. Reliably good coffee and delicious food with great service.
R.
Love this place. I was in Wellington for a month and came here half a dozen times, and I don't usually like to repeat when visiting a new city. What's so great? The food is really good for one, the pan fried salmon a highlight, and I particularly like the roasted veg. Also worth mentioning is the counter items - chocolate brownie is decent and the brioche fantastic.
But besides this, I just like the atmosphere 🙂
S.
When I studied at Massey this cafe was a great place to go. It has a great atmosphere and good service. Since its popular on weekend expect to wait but hey its worth it. the food is always satisfying. I've had breakfast, lunch and dinner there and I keep going back because its delicious.
C.
The place was packed, but only had to wait a little while to be seated. Very friendly and helpful staff. I ordered a Snickers flavoured thickshake (tasted just like a liquid Snickers!) and the waffles with banana and bacon. Very tasty!
A.
Lovely wee vibe in a great lil street. We went on a Saturday morning at peak time and took nearly an hour to receive our food. When it finally arrived all our eggs were overdone. Not the best brunch but would have been ok for just coffees.
K.
Nice brunch, good atmosphere and delicious salted caramel hot chocolate.
A.
This place has been a famous Wellington venue for decades now. It's still a great place to eat. The service was good when my group of four had dinner here tonight . Very pleasant and well organised. They took our orders fairly quickly and the wait for the meals, whilst not short, wasn't too long. Good choice of food. I had steak with steamed broccoli. The broccoli was excellent, and whilst the steak was tasty and cooked appropriately, it was a bit stringy.
Q.
Visited this place 2 years ago and they haven't changed much - which is a great thing. The food was amazing with reasonable but not overly large portions. The milkshakes were amazing (in particular the salted caramel), and the fried chicken with waffle is just something else, the balance of the fluffy waffle with crispy fried chicken and the maple syrup made this a stellar dish overall. Would definitely recommend this as a place to go to for food in Wellington anytime they are open.
N.
Was recommended to me by my Father in Law. If you are a fan of Waffles you cant go past the Bannana Bacon waffles at Fidel's. Its a very trendy Wellington hidden cafe that I cant recommend enough. Friendly knowledgeable staff. Great atmosphere as well. Be aware that you may have to wait a little while to be seated. Very popular.
S.
One of Wellingtons very arty and hip places with quirky, lively, alternative vibes. to get your coffee fix and treats. I love the selection of gluten free and vegan cakes. And I like to cone and try them all. This place is very popular on the weekend, so be sure to plan some time to get seated and served.
D.
Awesome hangover brunch food, and an excellent bacon bloody Mary!
F.
Got the vegan breakfast and was a little disappointed. Not too much flavour and was expecting more for a vegan meal not just veggies and bread. The coffees also came after our meal had been served which was weird. Good vibes and service but would of wanted more for a $22 meal.
R.
Nice atmosphere and very famous locally. Staff is very friendly. Unfortunately, they do not have much vegetarian options. I ordered take away frozen coffee it was yummy but not happy with take away quantity given that price is $7 its still small cup. 4* for friendly staff and nice frozen coffee!
M.
Great coffee, good food and friendly staff. We were really tempted to come back the next day!
We read a lot of reviews about queues and decided to come early to make sure we weren't late for other things during the day. It wasn't a problem at all - we got seated immediately even though it was a Saturday. Loved the decor too.
R.
This place really lived up to the hype.
I'd heard good things and from the outset they made sure we sat where we were comfortable, were well informed about the menu and offers, and answered all our questions and requests.
The food was great tasting and reasonably priced. The look is cool. The staff were lovely. We didn't drink but I'm sure it was just more of the same!
R.
We absolutely loved eating at Fidel's! They have a large variety of food including incredible brunch. Love the creative environment! Customer service was amazing! It took a little bit of time to complete our meals, but it was definitely worth it! :)
L.
Great service. Delish food.
E.
Very popular breakfast place. Great ambience. Had the Fidel Feast (delicious and good helping of sausage, bacon, mushrooms, and tomatoes, along with an eggs benedict), waffles with fried chicken and almonds (loved this best), and a salmon bagel. Great Latte. Service staff were very busy but still made a big effort to give good service. Reasonable prices.
C.
Love, love, love this place. Food is awesome, atmosphere is the best I have experienced in a long time and honestly one of the best places to go that actually have yummy options for vegans.
Definitely recommend.
Z.
Really nice atmosphere, good food, fast service, lovely staff and a lot of seating so no wait. I was so pleased to see so many delicious vegan options in the cabinets here. The menu prices aren't competitive for the area for the same kind of food, which is why i can't quite give the 5 stars. Otherwise, the cabinet food prices are reasonable.
B.
Amazing coffee. Didn't have food but it looked really good.
M.
Great atmosphere and vibe. Very inviting for all cultures. Food was amazing, was prepared fast and very well priced. First time here but not the last. I would only suggest adding a little dessert menu.
N.
It was a lovely cafe, a bit cold being sat outside but it was super busy, staff were friendly and proactive. The coffee was great. 5 star coffee but the bacon and egg sandwich I had wasnt great, I didnt finish it. I think I expected it with a bit of salad and some kind of sauce but it was very plain and a bit dry, maybe I'll read the menu better next time. 3 star sandwich. I've settled on 4 stars because the others I was with loved their food aswell as their coffee and when I visit again hopefully ill add another star for the food. 😁
M.
Neat eatery with a wide range of eclectic food options. Breakfast, lunch and dinner. Best banana milkshake I ever had.
E.
Absolutely amazing food if you want to visit for breakfast and lunch, would recommend the burritos or Eggs Hades. Definitely ring ahead for a booking as this cafe can get quite full on the weekends. Gluten free and vegetarian options are available and several meals can be vegan on request
N.
Love this place. Long blacks are delicious every time. Good environment with nice little back patio includes crazy cat ladies and some local youngsters. In the mornings on weekdays, find working class ordering delicious breakfasts from mushroom covered eggs to yummy blueberry muffins. Good prices at this joint as well.
a.
Packed place, and okay food, good enough vibes. Taking two stars away, if the food is going to be late, as a rule of thumb you should let the customer know after 15-20 minutes, and its the server's responsibility to do so. We waited for solid 30 minutes with no way to know when we are getting our food. I can understand the delay, you guys are quite busy and are packed. And its not just this place, almost every place in NZ lacks this etiquette.
A.
We queued up for a little while to get in here (which is always a good sign) and my God was the food tasty.
I had a full English breakfast with everything being delicious (apart from the sausage which was a little odd, but still nice).
My girlfriend had halloumi / avocado on toast which she really enjoyed!
The staff were super friendly, the prices were a little expensive but that's just Wellington!
Great place.
K.
A slightly quirky place which sells a good range of food including gluten free for one of our party, a steak and mash for another and delicious salt n pepper squid and spicy fish tacos for the others. Friendly staff and prompt service... all for a reasonable price. Will go again!
A.
Good portion sizes, tasty food. Very busy at the time that I attended but food was served within a reasonable timeframes. The tofu in the tofu burger was underwhelming but the flavors in the rest of the burger were fantastic.
K.
We waited almost an hour for our two meals only to find out that the order hadn’t been put through, so they had to start making it then. The waitress walked passed us dozens of times and didn’t do anything about it. Luckily the guy at the counter heard about it and sorted it out for us right away! So, thank you. He sorted out half the bill for us. Much appreciated.
C.
Love this place, not only tasty food but such a relaxing environment, great for catching up with that one friend you haven't seen in 5 years (or a tinder date) and are afraid of running out of things to talk about as there is alot of interesting decor and murals to fill in that empty void. Staff are great in my experience they checked in every now and then to see how it was but not so much that you've taken half a bite not even chewed the morsel yet as I have experienced in other places. have not had a problem since I first went this year (I have been a handful of times now) always get water very patient with my indecisive tendencies when it comes to ordering. Great selection, who can be mad at having waffles at 3pm? Friendly for our veggie friends too. Would love to go back again sometime in the near future! Would recommend one of the iced chocolates as they are super tasty. Only thing I can complain about is trying to waddle back down Cuba street with an overfull belly because I couldn't say no to an extra waffle. Cheers!
M.
Love the cafe, probably one of the best in town. Consistency with the menu and food quality is insane, menu has been the same since I started going there
V.
I went for their signature fried chicken, which tastes like it was marinated in buttermilk until sufficiently tender. Most places don't marinate their chicken enough, so it's refreshing to find a place that does this properly. The chicken is then coated in cajun seasoning before being battered an fried, which gives the chicken a spicy full taste that I've not had in any other places. Truly a must try if you're here.
M.
Food is above average - fairly expensive. I got chicken and waffles and have tried their pork belly also. LOVE their snickers milkshake. Staff weren't particularly attentive nor friendly/welcoming. Above average experience :)
G.
Amazing food. Its always crowded because its just that good. They have take away options as well. Service is good and the staff are friendly.
Edit 12 July 2018. Chicken and waffles is pretty bad. Very dry. The rest remains the same though.
P.
The tea and coffee is excellent here, and reasonably priced. I don't have the food often, so can't comment on that. However, the service is attentive - they watch over customers well. It can be a busy place however, so keep that in mind during peak eating periods.
A.
Listed as one of the must visit while in Welly. Friendly staff, superb interiors and their outdoor seating of fab if it isn't too windy. Cabinet food was great, will surely try their menu options during my next visit.
R.
Looking for breakfast after a walk so still in pretty casual gear on a week day morning - needed somewhere low key (no suits!) Fidels looked perfect and the food turned out to be totally on point. Seriously one of the best breakfasts I've ever had accompanied by THE best bloody mary - fresh tomato juice with 'bits' in it and just perfectly balanced. Will be back soon!
J.
Really cool little cafe/bar/restaurant with a great menu, plenty of choice and was delicious. Cool Cuban vibe and had local music adverts etc on walls so check entertainment on the weekends. Was full, so book ahead if busy and be mindful that service could be a tad slow. Also does takeaway that looked #100
M.
Have only been here a couple of times and I always leave thinking 'that was average'.
My most recent visit saw us receive our neighbors drinks, twice. An hour wait for food, where we saw three tables who arrived after we ordered get their food before us, 1 was exactly what we ordered.
The food was however good and we did leave happy(but that may have been from the three beers we drank).
Z.
Best cafe I've ever been to, would love to go again. The maitre'd was organized and managed the busy and crowded atmosphere very well, love the selection with vegan and vegetarian options and great coffee as well. Just love the vibe of the place, it is off the charts!
M.
Food is very delicious, I especially liked brunch - eggs and sausage are tasty, and hashbrown is the best I've ever had! They also have awesome desserts and famous milkshakes.
M.
Awesome cafe! One of my favs on Cuba :) X
C.
Awesome caramel hot chocolate! It's like eating a Cadbury bar!
B.
The service was very friendly, and the big breakfast was delicious and filling.
M.
This place. It's just so good. The menu is rich with variety and creativity, from their brunch and breakfast items to their dinner menu. Add to this some of the best coffee and barista work in the city and an incredible bakery case and you've got a world-class cafe sitting in the least assuming end of Cuba Street. Go hungry and avoid using the bathrooms if you're claustrophobic.
S.
Got there as soon as they opened as we had to be somewhere, and so did everyone else! Amazed at how busy they were at 7.30am on a Thursday morning and the staff were amazing. Service was fast and efficient, food was great and coffee was good. Can definitely recommend, and see why it's one of the best places to go in Wellington
M.
Spanish eggs were great and the coffee is fantastic. Friendly staff and a quirky setting. Recommended for brunch (if you can get a table at the weekend!)
S.
We had coffee and wedges at Video's. Nice coffee. Service was good and staff were polite.
Nice place to sit out in the sun, loved the location.
M.
C.
The halloumi on toast is one of the few meals I've eaten anywhere that wants for nothing, absolutely exceptional! Great coffee and friendly helpful staff too... Can't recommend Fiddel's enough.
S.
Delicious food with a wide range of options, the coffee is really good and there are lots of options for how to get it, including with alcohol added.
It's reasonably priced relative to the quality of the food, but with it being one of the great cafes in Wellington do expect a little wait before being seated, likely 10-20 minutes if you show up on a weekend at lunchtime.
L.
Try their Tim tam cake. It's divine!
m.
Highly recommendable, had a amazing brunch here, top service, food and drinks perfect, fresh juices, good coffee, kids were happy with toasties and waffles, we will be back soon.
A.
Best cafe food in Cuba Street. Best milkshakes anywhere in Wellington. An iconic social institution which never gets stale or sloppy. Service is efficient and friendly and sometimes charmingly indifferent. Great place day and night.
D.
Great service, very friendly and engaging staff. Food is delicious, good portions and many vegan options. They're are willing to "veganize" any of the dishes if you ask.
Had a great time, cannot recommend it enough!
J.
Best coffee I've had in awhile
L.
Great place to eat! Staff very friendly and with it being very busy, they were onto it all the time. meals very good with a good range of Vegan meals. Would definitely come back when in Wellington again.
V.
Cafe decor is interesting and eclectic, lovely girl on the counter and delivery girl. My daughter enjoyed her Snickers milkshake but my caramel latte was very average and only drunk cause I hate wastage, not the best barista on for the day.
T.
My Cuba St go-to for breakfast, brunch and lunch. Good options for kids meals. Lots of seating available. Can order takeaway coffee via app now.
T.
Great food and coffee, with a good selection on the menu. It's very popular with both locals and tourists since it's on Cuba Street so service can be slow on the weekend mornings. Expect to wait a bit for your food.
B.
I liked the service here except when asked about my meal and when I tried to explain why I didn't like the salt and pepper squid, the waitress looked at me as though I shouldn't say anything. Or I was about to hurt someone's feelings.
It might just be me, but the aioli tasted funky and wasn't very pleasant. I still like coming to Fidel's because of the good vibes and cool looking environment.
A.
Fidel's is a real Wellington classic. Came here for breakfast and had a marvelous haloumi panini. Decor is nice and the place is surprisingly roomy behind the compact frontage. A bit of confusion whether we were to order at table or counter (ended up being table) but otherwise staff seemed friendly enough.
B.
Cute cafe on the hippest street in town. I love to stop by for breaky, brunch, lunch or dinner. My wife loved the cups so much she stole some before we left.
B.
Cool place, great coffee, great food. Really nice vibe.
Staff were all lovely, in particular we were served by Elle who was amazing!
j.
Impeccable, friendly service. My eggs bene came quickly and was absolutely delicious. I’ll definitely be back, highly recommended. Don’t forget guys - Fidel is Trudeau’s daddy ;)
P.
Great coffee and milkshakes, but more of a place to eat and catch up with friends over a feed and a wine than a coffee house. Food is good, but can get busy at peak times and you may have to wait for a table and service...
J.
Delicious food. Everything was a highlight from the nachos, waffles and big breakfast. Really enjoyed the hashbrowns. Now that's what u call a hashbrown. I'll definitely be a returning customer. We went on 2 Jan 2019 where most eateries were closed so im glad Fidels was open! The decor of the place is very cool. Luckily we got in early before the busy peak hit.
P.
My wife and I have been meeting up with family and friends here for more than ten years. For my money (ie not a lot) it's the best, most laid back and most friendly restaurant/cafe in Wellington. And that's saying something -- there's some stiff competition. Onya Fidel's. !Venceremos!
S.
Great food and friendly service.
K.
Killer coffee and delicious food. Both cabinet and menu options are excellent with plenty of variety. Fast friendly service and a great atmosphere. Just wish we could come more often.
S.
One of our favorite breakfast/brunch places in Wellington. Cozy hippie atmosphere with delicious food.
R.
Always my first priority n go to breakfast destination when i come to welly.
J.
Definitely a good place to eat, I'm local and I've been coming here for years but have been out of the area for a few years and recently went back to see if it had changed. Pleased to see its still the same with a slightly different menu but excellent food at a very reasonable price.
I.
Fun cafe with tasty food! Would've been five stars except burrito came with Thai sweet chili sauce, which isn't totally fair given how common it is in New Zealand, but have to start somewhere.
L.
Eggs Benedict was good as !
K.
One of my favorite spots for brunch. A must every time I visit Wellington. Fantastic food and coffee. Can get very busy so be prepared to wait for a table.
C.
I stayed a bit longer because I was stealing their playlist (punching my Shazam under the table-very hush hush). The coffee was great, the waiting staff was sweet. It's a very rustic place on a rustic street, kind of reminded me of downtown Seminyak in Bali. Oh I also ordered their big breakfast. Oh happiness.
G.
Great food and friendly service
P.
Great place for breakfast. Excellent service and love the coffee!
A.
Food was awesome but we had to wait over an hour for it. The staff was nice but didn't inform us about the wait time before we ordered.
A suggestion to the management - I understand things can be busy , but it will help if customers are advised the wait time prior to ordering.
I.
Good food, nice staff and awesome vibe. A place to return for sure.
E.
Fidel's tends to be very busy, but with good reason. The food is excellent. Decent range of vegan meals - the nachos are delicious.
S.
Great place with great people and live music
K.
Has a fun and cool environment. Nice coffee and food. Feels like you are in Cuba.
H.
The snickers thickshake is one of the best shakes I've ever had! I also has the hallumi on toast which was tasty and the homade chilli relish made it pop just that bit more. Definitely worth the little wait for a table! Staff are really friendly and have a very unique vibe too
J.
Love this place! Coming back next time I'm in the Capitol.
The fried chicken waffles here are so good my wife and I literally flew from Auckland to Wellington for the day just for them...
O.
I just ordered a delivery from Fidels tonight. We're regulars as my kids love their food and we enjoy the friendly service too so I was glad to know they also do delivery via deliveryeasy. I'm gluten free vegetarian and they were nice to ring me to double check abt my fries order which it turned out I can't have as they use same fryer for gluten free stuff. The guy I spoke to was very nice to accommodate the changes to my order making sure a substitution is done. Thanks so much and see you guys soon.
M.
Eclectic menu offering organic themed dishes with a slightly South American touch. Culinary presentation and menu style with varying combinations of fresh ingredients.
Recommend for a solid eat, the menu items are very typical for this genre of restaurant across the globe.
I.
Best chicken and waffles in welly
P.
There is a reason why this place is so busy, it's a national treasure. Great coffee, awesome food and is family friendly. Come and absorb some culture they said. I did and was deeply impressed.
K.
My first time there, great atmosphere with friendly staff. Good selection of food, you have to check out there cakes and desserts, all home made. If you like Cuban/Mexican food, check out Fidel's!
W.
Great great vibe here. Def. A must visit brunch rest in cuba st wellington. I ordered the cubanos and was mesmerized by it (esp. the chips is so gooooddd) and the shake is a must try too (I only try banana shake but it was awesome - complenting my meal just perfect). Also great service too! Well done.
S.
I've been going to this place for years while studying at Vic's Te Aro Campus. The cabinet food is always on point and I can highly recommend the Caesar salad if that's what you're into. Gotta be in quick to get cabinet food if you're taking it away for lunch - it's usually all gone before 1-2pm. The menu food is more average fare and you could find similar dishes elsewhere. But I had the Chicken & Haloumi salad today which was fantastic.
Drinks - They make fresh juice, amazing milkshakes including snicker's (they actually blend a snickers I believe) and they have a good range of hot drinks.
r.
Great food, friendly waitresses, great coffee. But pricey and takes a while to get seated, not like other cafes that will take your order without telling you they are full though haha
J.
Fidel's Cafe has accurately emulated the theme, decor and mood of a Cuban street. The layout of the restaurant, albeit quite cramped and dusky, nonetheless captures the essence of what Fidel's is about.
My order of Eggs Benedict with homemade hash was made to a high standard. The hollandaise sauce was especially good. With hollandaise sauce being such a cliche sauce in cafes nowadays, it is rare to come across a worthwhile one. Fidel's hollandaise sauce is unique, tangy and the right balance of richness. The sauce essentially made the whole dish!
I concur with other reviewers regarding the wait times and service. It can be a long wait before you are seated and served (it took around 15 minutes for us).
Coffee is made to a satisfactory standard, using Havana coffee beans. While I am not a particularly huge fan of Havana's dark/strong roast, barista technique and skill was of a good standard nonetheless.
Overall, a good lunch experience. My fellow diner and I will sure be back to give it another go in the near future!
B.
One of the best counter food selections in town. The menu could be worth a read too! Great waiting staff offering friendly, helpful service.
M.
Simply the best. Excellent food, great atmosphere, quality coffee. All the tourists and locals go here, so be willing to wait for a table!
P.
Excellent coffee, fruity and aromatic flavor. They use a bean roasted by Havana Coffee specifically made for them. Food is good - typical boutique greasy spoon cafe food. Has vegan, GF options.
C.
Amazing friendly staff, great food, and a fantastic atmosphere. Worth the stop whilst in Wellington!
A.
This is hands down, my favourite cafe/restaurant in Wellington.
The cafe itself is cosy, warm and cosmopolitan.
The coffee is awesome, the staff are always friendly and accommodating.
The food is just amazing. Counter desserts are sensational, they're made by staff so the choices change every few days. Gluten free and vege/vegan couunter food options. Never had a bad or mediocre meal here. Can get full/busy at weekends. Takeaways are available.
I go to Fidels every time I'm in Wellington, as much as I can. Go here, thank me later.
S.
Good food, friendly staff and well priced menu. Decor very rustic adding to the charm of the place. Would go back to try some more items off the menu if in town.
M.
Awesome place with great menu that's reasonably priced on the cool Cuba St strip. Great Cafe style menu with late breakfast. The milkshakes are awesome! Coffee's great too!
M.
Nice change for a breakfast menu. Great coffee. Great service. Nothing else to say really.....oh food was awesome too.....
B.
I know the phrase gets thrown around a lot, but it's completely accurate with this cafe. It's an institution. A funky staff with great personalities, serving incredible coffees and comfort food. It's the sort of spot you could spent all day hanging out with friends. I especially love the Cuba-theme smoking area in the back and the snickers thickshakes.
M.
great food and coffee, always great service, only drawback is it can be hard to get a seat but this is due to popularity, popularity is due to great food & service etc, the building is rather old and not really easy to navigate but the building's age very much add to the character of the place and it wouldn't be the same Fidel's if it was a modern structure
S.
Definitely the stand out cafe of Cuba Street which is high praise with all the other talent around it. Had to go back a second time for the eggs benedict as we couldn't stop thinking about it. Can be a bit of a wait surfing peak times but that's just indicative of the quality you are getting.
C.
Not the cleanest place (I avoid the water they provide as sometimes the bottles are a bit gross), but worth it for the great coffees and milkshakes. The food is also pretty good.
It gets pretty crowded and loud some times, especially on weekends.
N.
Absolutely love waffles and chicken from Fidel’s! It’s the best meal I’ve had in the city! It is definitely a must have when you come to visit Wellington. You will be addicted!
D.
Pretty long wait times but the food is nice and there's a very unique atmosphere. You can see they've made a name for themselves with quality food and coffee but if you're hungry/in a rush, maybe save them for another time.
L.
Best coffee in central Wellington.
G.
Returned to this place with family from overseas. All remember and love the food, service and atmosphere in this unique cafe
C.
Good coffee, nice place. Brunch not so good, don’t try avocado.
L.
Generally like the food but have had one bad experience and one very bad experience.
The first time they forgot our order and we had to wait an hour & a half for our meals. The thing that bugged me is that after asking twice what happened, all they kept saying was there was an issue in the kitchen which was causing the delay which was a load of crap because people that came in 20-30mins after us were all getting their food before us.
The last straw for me was when I ordered my partner's bday cake from them... and they forgot! so my partner had no birthday cake. Bloody useless.
To be honest though, the food here was ok and level of service was generally pretty good but the above two cock ups forced me to boycott this place. Never going there again.
M.
The best breakfast burrito in Wellies for sure. Amazing coffee, great service and unique decor and ambience. A MUST if you're in town and looking for a good breakie or brunch
T.
Loved the coffee and so reasonably priced too! Food was nice, not fantastic but extremely quick and worth going back to. Staff were friendly and helpful
B.
gone a bit down hill recently. poor communication huge waits for food. took 20mins to take an order. 45 mins to get the food. mixed our tables up. no one seemed to care. food was average, not as good as 6 months ago. hope it was an off day
F.
It's actually as good as rated in quite a few tourist guides. We were pleasantly surprised! Had the beetroot rice with salmon and piri-priri chicken. Tasty and well seasoned. Recommended.
S.
Food was awesome as always! Only reason I wouldn't put 5 stars is because of one of the the lady servers was very sour towards us :( Quite disappointed.
L.
The best breakfast burrito in Wellies for sure. Amazing coffee, great service and unique decor and ambience. A MUST if you're in town and looking for a good breakie or brunch
J.
Really busy but still great service, friendly and attentive. Burrito was delicious really good balance of flavors, maybe could have done with a bit of hot sauce on the side :)
J.
Friendly waiter who got us a lovely table on a busy night. I got the nachos and oh my god they were amazing. Great portion size and great ingredients. Will be back!
S.
Amazing service, delicious food, can't go wrong.
q.
Milkshakes were the best I have tasted, nachos I ordered were so good. The premise is a bit small and crowded which can be quite a big squeeze at peak times.
S.
I really enjoyed having breakfast coffee at this quirky cafe but had to drop my *rating for 2 reasons. Firstly, the indifferent attitude of the blonde waitress. (Your job is ALL about the customer service honey!) And secondly, no Wi-Fi ! The age of social media technology.
T.
All that you have heard about this place is true! Out of this world, burgers and milkshakes, one of a kind in wellington!
Y.
Everything here is the top of the game! There is nothing they could possibly do better.. Nothing! Been in love with Fidels since 2006 and still loyal to Fidels! You can't go wrong. The coffee is perfect the food is the only comfort food you need in Wellington and the people are frikin awesome!
D.
If you're in Wellington the Fidel's Snicker milkshake is a must! I get it every time I visit. Super lovely staff. Whenever I think of Wellington Fidel's is one of the first things that comes to mind.
D.
Not just your run-of-the-mill Authoritarian overthrow, this café serves up a mean brunch, while bombarding you with classy Cuban decor.
Ironically this Fidel was not revolting, but actually quite delicious. The prices though, were not communist.
J.
Fantastic food, variety of options. small outdoor but covered seating area. Place is a tight squeeze but worth a visit.
D.
Had a delicious margarita pizza, spicy onion rings snickers milkshake and berry smoothie. Wonderful service. So delicious!!
S.
Excellent coffee, tasty food, laid back vibe but often busy so sometimes requires a wait for a table. But worth it!
K.
Great food and amazing vibe
A.
An icon of Cuba street fidels is a must visit for any traveller or visitor to Wellington, awesome food, and in particular their amazing milkshakes, staff are always friendly and the only bad experience I've heard of is not getting a table for 20 mins because it's so popular!
S.
Nice food but average service- was waiting for a long time to both be served and then for the food to be delivered
O.
Fried chicken waffles were incredible! Every single bite was delicious and amazing. Coffee was excellent and staff were friendly
A.
Grate vibes great breakfast to be had...only let down the coffee and hot chocolate were Luke warm....buggar.
B.
So filling I couldn't even get through a quarter of my milkshake! Delicious food and thick shakes
Thank you for exceptional service once again!
J.
Very chilled spot. Decor and vibe were great. Sit outside for lunch under the Cuban flag. Chicken and waffles were superb.
T.
3 stars for the food, 5 stars for the coffee. Undoubtedly the best coffee I’ve ever had in my life but the food was very average, it wasn’t bad by any means but it didn’t knock me over by any means
P.
The greatest place in the city for that takeaway early morning coffee because you buy straight from The Shack. Open 7am till noon, Monday to Saturday.
S.
Food was good, but nothing to line up for. The staff weren't friendly at all and gave us an attitude when we tried to order a milkshake to go as we were leaving.
E.
Great food, friendly service, we were especially pleased with the dessert optuons. Can recommend the pepperment slice and the dulche de leche brownie.
H.
Best cafe in Wellington, delicious food and coffee and they've delivered the same excellent standard for years now, highly recommend :)
T.
Another Cuba Street icon well worth visiting for breakfast, lunch or anytime you need that caffeine fix!
S.
great food and good service
p.
The hot toddy is sublime ..great food and great atmosphere aaa+
J.
Great start to a busy day. Appreciated the wait staff service and fab food. Awesome coffee.
D.
One of the top Wellington cafes for brunch and coffee, outdoor and indoor areas and a small takeaway counter for speedy coffee
A.
Food is awesome, staff are great and the atmosphere is always fun.
T.
Love this restaurant. Excellent chicken and waffles. No one in town does better wedges and the vegan breakfast is AMAZING
P.
Great staff and food. Amazing coffee
S.
Very nice food in this popular cafe. Great atmosphere, good place to escape the boredom that is Wellington. New Zealand doesn't really do cities!
P.
Fantastic experience for all. Great place for drinks and meals with friends or family members. Very reasonable prices and staff are awsome! Will go again!
w.
A great place for catching up with friends and family. Situated in the famous Cuba Steet it has indoor and outdoor eating spaces with plenty of good food to choose from. 4 stars
W.
If you haven't been - then go! Fidels is such an awesome cafe - great food, great staff, cool decor. We love it and when visitors come to Welly Fidels is a must!

Delicious 😋.
Recommend the baked Spanish eggs.
J.
best ham sammich i eva eaten. Defiently a five star rating but had to deduct one cause they was some weird cottage cheese stank. will be back.
D.
Food and coffee were pretty good, but the wait times for both service and food were really long (and it wasn't super busy at the time). Felt a bit too expensive.
A.
Fidel's epitomizes the Wellington vibe and has stood the test of time. The atmosphere, the food, the music and the people. If you want a true Welly daytime experience, this is the place to be.
S.
I take all of my friends who are visiting Wellington here and they always love it! It's an institution. The vegan muffins are amazing.
V.
I have been going to Fidels for about 12 years now. I absolutely love everything about it. I have been told the Snickers Smoothie is to die for. If you beat me to it let me know
K.
Loved the ambience and friendliness of this quirky wee cafe. Well worth a visit. Great food and coffee..
V.
Great food, terrible service. Would get takeaway in the future. Maybe they were tired from working so hard bc the spot is so popular?
B.
Went there prior to an event a Micheal Fowler's. Was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the Wellington on a plate burger. Would definitely go there again.
M.

The waitress we had made the dining experience even more funky! Such a cool place to have dinner and a couple of drinks before catching the WOW show
S.
The flavours packed in to the burgers are perfect
C.
Good price for the Sunday roast, generous serve size, shame most of the vegetables were too undercooked for me. VERY disappointed no cuban music!!!!
G.
Great Cuban style brunch and cafe style options. Does a busy service but always a quality experience you know what your getting.
R.

Food is good, music is ok, the place could do with some maintenance.
They do make a pretty good milkshake so for that reason alone it well worth a visit.

Went for midweek breakfast. Poached eggs were like rocks. Bread barely buttered. Bacon was ok but not enough for what you pay.
C.
Great food and service. They have a great selection of food, craft beers and wine. A favourite spot under the locals. It's a trendy and upmarket spot.
C.
Excellent food, drinks and atmosphere. Highly recommend the fried chicken waffle and Snickers thick shake.

Love this place. Nice coffee and food. Out door seating. Small but feel not small.

Good food, but they often run out of cabinet food so you have to get in quick! Staff are mostly friendly, but sometimes they are a bit flustered...

Enjoy the vibe, enjoy the food. It is one local eatery that defines Wellingtonian culture.

Good food, good service
R.
Fabulous food and coffee, great atmosphere

Great brekky food but somewhat spoilt by slow, and at times surly service. They say there is a credit card surcharge but luckily they didn't charge me.

Absolute classic Welly cafe. Fantastic coffee and food to match. Excellent for brunch on a sunny day in their courtyard
K.
Love fidels. Great food, cool vibes and good wait staff. Love coming for brunch, lunch or early dinner. Often super busy

Fav cafe in Welly. Never disappoints, unless it's too busy to get a seat, or there is a communist revolution.
C.
Lovely food. A bit of a wait as it is very popular. Nice gardens. Gf options. Recommended!
V.
Fantastic Eggs Benedict, great coffee and lovely staff. 😊
G.
Always good food, crowded and lively. Because it's so busy service can be a bit slow but time passes quickly in an interesting place like this.
C.
We where the first people in the door when it opened. Order two coffees, only one came. At the end of our meal the second showed up without so much as an apology.
S.
Food, ambience and drinks were a delight. Will definitely be back when we come back to Welly!
S.
Always constantly good, food coffee and banter with the staff. Awesome experience

Good coffee, friendly staff. The portions of food was good but the ingredients a little bland.
h.
Good food great drinks but they overcharged me and when I went in the next day and asked for compensation they said email us despite the manager just standing around doing what seemed like nothing.
D.
Great food and coffee. Expect up to a 30 minute wait on the weekends to be seated. But worth it.
