A great country pub that has recently changed hands with the new owners friendly and the service excellent. It was established in 1870 as a ferry station allowing access from the eastern farm area across the river into Wairarapa. Plenty of dining room indoors and a large outdoor garden that sits on the edge of the river for fine days. Saturdays are popular with visitors and you're likely to spot a lot of classic cars and motorbikes, Sunday afternoon see a lot of families coming in, and Wednesday evenings are local night. The winter menu has just started and has some great options for those colder days and nights. The food is honest and delicious, if you like pizza there is quite a range as well as a kids menu. Dogs are generally welcome in the garden area and in summer you can watch the local jet boats on the river. It does get busy and wait times can be long, but it's worth the wait while you relax with a drink.

An overall great place to eat and drink conveniently near me for a nice meal! Perfect for every occasion would recommend for anyone nearby to have a wonderful experience and only a short drive I have never had a bad time at the Gladstone inn pizza’s are amazing and they manage to make refreshing drinks in under a minute! 5 stars would go there for any occasions.

Great all around! Great hospitality, great food, great scenery, and great patrons. We had chicken schnitzel, fish and chips, and a brownie Sunday. All were perfect. They were ert welcoming to our greyhound we brought along, and several patrons came by our table to pet the dog. What an excellent way to spend the afternoon after taking a short walk around the Carter Scenic Reserve.

We had 3 lovely meals this evening. Service was extremely timely and our server was very welcoming and friendly. I can’t find any fault and look forward to more meals sitting outside by the river with a glass of wine.

I've been here for lunch several times and it's always been really nice. There's a tasty selection of woodfired pizza (I had a pear and walnut one time, that was particularly good), as well a respectable selection of general country pub food and drink. We particularly appreciate that there's a large and pleasant outdoor area, as it means our dog can sit with us. The staff have always been happy to bring him a bowl of water, and the tables all have umbrellas to provide shade.

I'd give them more stars if I could. How hospitable how accommodating how welcoming how awesome were they. You can have a swept up meal which was just as good as any restaurant or as cheap as you wanted to go. Thru circumstances we were there the next night having wine pizza and wedges which was just as nice. Thank you for giving us two wonderful experiences. So recommend the Gladstone Pub. The guy doing the bar the Maitre D and the waitress were all delightful.

I have bought the Gladdy burger 🍔 a couple of times and it is definitely worth it. Just delicious and the crispy chunky fries are devine . 😋 I recently dined in with a friend to celebrate my birthday, the mains were just perfect. Steak cooked exactly the way I ordered. We ended up asking what we couldn't eat to takeaway. So fulling and worth the price. The waitress was amazing. Super friendly as was the bar man. I unfortunately lost my courtesy email for my birthday, maybe next year...

This is a very popular place way out in the middle of nowhere with a long history ...however people come from near and far to take some time out at this pleasant venue... beautiful setting near the river.. lots of seating.. the food is wonderful.. I've had 3 different dishes and haven't been disappointed... the service was prompt and friendly... ensure you book as I was turned away as a casual walk in... "The Gladdy" is always busy... I'm sure you will enjoy your visit

Food is good but meals are small. My fish and chip lunch on Sunday had 6 chips on the plate. The service is very good. Very attentive, but some of the staff need to tidy themselves up a bit. Our drinks waitress was scruffy! They were very busy but we didn't have to wait long for drinks, ordering food or getting our meals. I have eaten here reasonably often and would go back.

The Gladstone Inn is about 20km from Greytown but it's flat as, so a highly recommended detour for cycle tourists and motorcampers. The inn is on one side of the bridge. A community common is on the other. The common is an excellent place to camp. No power, but the river is great to swim in and there are facilities at the inn. Heaps of room, quiet, safe and well maintained. The inn is fabulous! Best burger ever, super friendly staff. Gladstone vineyard down the road does an excellent rosé. All in all one of the best detours I've made as I explore the hidden gems of the lower North Island

Always welcoming we stop here often on our motorbikes for a drink and some food. Can recommend for sure. Nice outlook over the river good pub food. Recently revamped so looks very nice inside. Great place to sit out in the sunshine and relax.

Something went wrong with the booking (I think it was our end.. - I hope there wasn't another local venue waiting for a table of 7 at 730 eeek :o), but they very quickly organized a large table (at a rather busy time of night). Salad needed dressing or more substance, just Lettuce and onion and maybe cabbage, fish and chips was bland, not enough sauce and if the girl with the blue butterfly tattoo is going to yell at her staff she should do it out the back away from customers, wasn't that nice to customers either. Waitresses seemed nice and friendly, food was pretty good all round but the portions could be better, quality over quantity but if the quality is average there should be more quantity.

A team of 4 just did the Glady, a really enjoyable lunch. Didn't book and we were informed on arrival that there would be a 20 minute delay in getting our order. Nothing better than a cold drink outdoors on a hot New Year's Day afternoon in 'Newzild'. Service was prompt, professional and friendly. Range of drinks was middling - the available options were good ones. Staff need to have better info about what foods on the menu can be made gluten-free. Food was served as promptly as can be expected with so many customers, and was excellent. Be aware of surcharged rates on public holidays. Our dog was made very welcome. Highlight was the one-minute walk to the riverside out the back, to paddle in the clean, clear water, then come back to enjoy another drink.

This lovely country pub has a great atmosphere, wide variety of food and drinks, an amazing beer garden, and is very well run by the staff. If you’re in the area, stop off for a bite to eat, wander down to the river, and generally relax in a well appointed tee environment designed to make it easy to relax. They have a lovely wood fired pizza oven, and all the regular staples of pub food. Well worth a visit if you’re passing by.

Seriously, these meals, wow. I have never had anything like this in the Wairarapa, putting heavyweights Lone Star to absolute shame. Beef brisket burger cooked to perfection, partnered with caramelized onions, relish, and hand-cut fries seasoned for the gods. Easily the best burger I've had in years. My significant other enjoyed Balsamic Glazed Mushrooms with bacon and the most melt in your mouth feta cheese I have been honoured to try. The in-house made cheesecake was to die for. Incredibly impressed. Service was also fantastic :) As a cook and food enthusiast ourselves we are very impressed with how well this went. Wairarapa's best kept secret hands down. Highly recommend.

The rolling hills around Gladstone make a lovely setting for this great little pub. Sitting in a little valley next to a river it's an ideal spot for a walk followed by a pint or two of Chomp and a hearty lunch. The outside garden is perfect to sit and chill in summer, although at this time of year the open fire inside might be a bit more tempting!

Last night I had the best steak meal that I've had in many years - the steak was cooked to perfection, exactly how I'd requested it, the flavour of the meat was fabulous with a slight hint of smoky BBQ, with crisp, crunchy hand-cut fries. The mushroom sauce, accompanied by roasted carrot, beetroot & onion was superb. Can't recommend this meal enough, but have always had great food at the Gladstone, in the 16-17 years we've been going there. My only little complaint is that the garlic bread used to be done the best I've had but the change to what it is now is not quite as good as the 'old' way but c'est la vie! Well done Gladstone Inn.

Man kann sowohl drinnen als auch draußen sitzen. Da alle Türen offen stehen, zieht es ziemlich stark und den meisten Neuseeländern ist es egal, da es ihnen nichts ausmacht. Einfach direkt ansprechen.
