Reviews of Ministry of Food Bar & Kitchen
M.
Came for a team lunch and was not pleasantly surprised - it was definitely pleasant but far from a surprise as every time I’ve been here has been great. I opted for the smoked fish kegeree - a lovely rice dish with a perfect level of saltiness. Forgot to take a “before” photo but I think the “after” photo says it all.

Service is fantastic here. Plenty of seating and was able to get a table right away. The food was good, I had the buttermilk chicken burger with fries. The burger was tasty enough and fries were good. I've had better of both items but this was good.

The Ministry of Food is a pleasant restaurant/cafe located on The Terrace in Wellington's CBD. They have both indoor and outdoor seating and table service (although you order at the bar). The service itself was prompt, professional and friendly. The food is good and priced appropriately given the location. The decor and layout was quite pleasing. I especially liked the outdoor area which looked out over The Terrace. I went there for the burger which was part of the Wellington On Plate promotion, but I would definitely go there again to check out the rest of their food.

Nice brekkie cafe. Open from 7am, plenty of seating. Smashed avo called "The Millennial" was delicious, but a little sloppily presented. Turkish eggs were average (well poached but too much sauce). Coffee was excellent!
D.
Tasty food (had venison and beetroot burger) and great selection of craft beer (2 different pilsner on tap). Good music, great place to go after work to relax

I had dinner here with my friend. We arrived to the most friendly welcome and got a lovely comfortable seat out the back. I had a beautiful fish dish with fresh greens and a tasty sauce. My friend had the pizza and we both had a beautiful coffee and apple crumble. The food is well priced for what you get and we felt very well taken care of. Nice spot for a glass of wine and relax with friends. Cool elevated location away from foot traffic. Good service and selection of alcohol.

Took my 7 month old baby to Ministry of Food and the staff were very accommodating. Gladly heated up my baby's food, offered a seat for my baby's chair and stored our giant pram. The service was great and I really appreciated how easy they made our experience. A small suggestion would be a change table in the accessible bathroom. Makes a huge difference when you don't have to lie your baby on the cold, hard floor.
D.
Chicken tender salad was average. Nice on the balcony in the late afternoon when the sun comes round. Unobtrusive staff. Nicely set back from, and higher than, the traffic on The Terrace.
D.
Amazing customer service, friendly staff and great brunch food!
T.
The best outdoor seating area on The Terrace and friendly staff that remember regular patrons. Ministry of Food is a smaller bar with a good selection of drinks, and plenty of atmosphere without the excessive noise that you get in larger venues.
S.
Duck salad was amazing! Cocktails need to be perfected!
R.
Friendly staff. Come here often as it's so close to the office. Coffee is quite good, they use Rich coffee which my coworkers swear by being one of the better coffees in town. Have had a decent pot of tea sat outside under the heater - kept nice and warm. Cheese scones are some of the best around, freshly made.

Best gluten free cheese scones in Wellington! Good service - brisk and efficient. Odd decor, but somehow satisfying. Area "out back" is great for coffee-meetings, balcony is perfect for socialising in the sun. They'll be seeing me regularly...

One of the best bars located over The Terrace.
Convenient location and easily approachable. Can be easily spotted on the roadside from a moving vehicle in normal traffic.
Well maintained and organised. Good ambiance and cozy atmosphere. Music is always playing in the background on low volume.
Spacious seating and nicely managed.
Cheerful, welcoming and cordial staff. Friendly service.
Good variety of food and drinks although the choice for vegans and vegetarians is limited.
Delicious preparations. Good presentation. Table service.
Best thing about this place is that you loose track of time very soon after entering.
Card as well as cash payments are accepted.
Good for groups, celebrations and catch-ups.
Normally busy during evening.
Handy location for quick chat or drinks.
Outdoor seating is available. Could not notice wheelchair accessible seating in plain view at this location.
Entrance is not wheelchair accessible.
There is no dedicated parking area available although street parking can be found around the entrance. Wheelchair parking is not available.
Liked the experience.

Nice service and coffee and food tasted good.
But the chips were mostly very short in length?
Price wise, a bit pricey, but we are visitors here.
Both had the special fish burger at $12.
A.
Good beer options. Couple of nice craft beers on tap and a decent wine list as well as far as reds are concerned. Antipasto platter is a pretty good option for something to munch on over a few drinks. Indoor and outdoor seating options are great for fine weather.

I love this bar/restaurant. Have visited many times for breakfast, lunch and drinks. It's located very central and in the cbd. Service is always friendly and the standard of food very high. Def a favourite and prices aren't too much for the location.

Came in for a late-birthday dinner with friends and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The dining area is laid back and cosy but still funky, the music was upbeat and had several of us tapping along before we even sat down! We sampled the following tapas items: chips (with chicken salt? it was tasty what ever it was!) + real gravy, garlic bread, duck liver pate + wonderful relish/marmalade, amazingly fresh squid rings that were perfectly crispy, and we all really enjoyed them, everything was actually hot, and fresh, and crispy where it should have been. We then tried The Meat One pizza, the Tree Hugger (veggie), and Margarita pizzas; the Meat lovers was my personal favourite whist two of my friends went mad over the Tree Hugger and another friend favoured the classic Margarita ("The Best One"). We tried some Hopps soda (watermelon and mint!) as well as some of their cocktails and were quite pleased with everything we tried. The staff were surprisingly nice and cheery (but not creepily so) and made us feel totally welcome, checked on food and drink just often enough to be helpful without being annoying, even laughed at our jokes! (though that might just be because they are nice, polite people, rather then our jokes being top shelf stuff :P) Thank you for providing the setting and foods for a relaxed and tasty evening :)

Great little hidden gem on the terrace. Attentive staff, great seating, we only had a drink for a quick meeting, but the staff was super nice! Would definitely go back for meal next time.
M.
I trek down The Terrace to come here for coffee (because its good) a few times a week and lunch sometimes too. The service is fast and very friendly and I love the new decor. I meet my mother here for lunch, she loves the grill breads. Fresh, tasty and satisfying. Soup is a good choice at this time of year but last time I had the lamb rendang and it is better than any you get from the many Malayasian places up town.
K.
Very nice evening here, so accommodating with a bunch of hungry vegans! Custom made pizzas and lovely olives for us. Lovely staff!
R.
Great service convenient for a coffee. Not crowded plenty of space, they also do lunch. Plus a good place for a drink at the end of a day.
V.
I really enjoy this place and would rate it more highly if only they served Chai lattes. Such a staple to offer and not hard to do. I would become a much more frequent customer if it was on the menu. 😊 can't fault the service though and lovely outside area.
A.
Had dinner and a few beers here while spending the night in Wellington, the I had the venison burger which was good and the hand cut chips were excellent. A reasonable collection of beers and good friendly service.
M.
The location is convenient and food is fine. Occassionally there is one staff member who is awesome, really friendly, happy, inclusive girl.
R.
Had the Duck Liver Parfait - OMG amazing.
I don't usually write reviews but the comments from all my friends at my table was so good I had too. Well done team, we
will be back!
a.
Great friendly people and great comfort food, could have a better vegan burger...little more spice ...then perfect!
V.
Enjoy a sunny day with your friends and family at the deck, go by yoyrself and enjoy yiur own company, eat some delicious food, try different drinks and food, stay inside if it's cold, but don't wast the chance of going to there
L.

W.
Great vibe. Great people. One bar lady a bit rude
M.
Good food and service was still good even though they were short staffed when we visited. Generous portion of calamari!
F.
Look, this place is so good I'd rather keep it a secret in case it becomes too popular and I lose my usual seat.
r.
Oh my God, why they are so expensive? You must check the wine list before ordering.
S.
Excellent. Great food, good music, staff brilliant. Would highly recommend
K.
Excellent service and food.
D.
Service was uncharactistically slow. Food was good. Service is usually much better.
T.
Several different seating areas with different ambience. Cosy at the back, light and open at the front, plus a sheltered outside terrace.
E.
The restaurant's website lists trading hours as "7am till late" and the times on Google are suggested as 7am to 10pm but when we enquired about dinner at 6:30pm we were told the kitchen had already closed.
