The food is outstanding. Fresh. Delicious. The stuff are all very helpful and polite. The pasta is always cook to perfection, the tomatoes sauce is spectacular. The portions are extremely generous.

Really liked the ambience here - a nice touch with the real candles. Had two of the specials the Lamb Capeletti and the Venison Rigatone - both were really good. Thoroughly enjoyed the experience and the staff was helpful and friendly. Would definitely recommend this to anyone who likes Italian food.

If I could rate this restaurant higher than 5, i would. The presentation is beautiful, taste is amazing. Would definitely come back to try the others. Compliments to the chef

Very nice restaurant with excellent food and service! It was very busy when we visited but luckily enough we still managed to get a seat outside, but that tells me remember to book next time i go haha

Started with a glass of montepulciano. Got stuck into the bruschetta. Followed that with the venison rigatoni. Next was a toast with limoncello. Dessert = profiteroles, excuse the spelling. Washed all that down with some grappa, one of six varieties Nicolini's keep on hand. I have some photos here somewhere, not only of the rigatoni but also other dishrs, like lamb shanks, some seafood stuff and some thing else.

Had dinner on the 11th here. 1st time time back in years....did online reservation and it got mucked up....turned up thinking we had booked in but the online system got it wrong. They were super gracious and helpful, told us to come back in 15. Came back to amazing table out back...lovely wait staff, beautiful food...is still our favourite Italian in New Zealand. Can't recommend these guys more highly....never a bad dish...can't wait to come back.😊👍

Food was amazing and the service was great. Staff were really friendly. We thought the place was fully booked but the wait staff took us out the back to a lovely little cozy room. Beautiful atmosphere with candles. The meals were taking a little bit longer than expected so the wait staff offered us a free dessert which was really yum. All 3 of us loved our meals (pasta and risotto dishes). Would definitely go back again and recommend to friends.

We visited 2 weeks ago and had the most amazing dining experience. Service was fantastic and food was pure Italian. The atmosphere was very romantic and we felt like we were dining somewhere in Italy, loved it and highly recommend a visit.

Everything was great - service, wine and food. The pork scallopini was especially good.

Surprisingly Wellington has so many great Italian places. We have a few regular restaurants around the city where we go to but this place was recommended by many friends so we finally went there last night. Everything was amazing and good portion too, very fresh and homely feelings, friendly staff. Will definitely go back soon!

Lovely, vibrant place. First time trying our this place. What you can notice right away when you walk in is a customer service. Server greeted us right away with a smile and quickly found out at what table to seat us. I have heard about this place from many of my friends and colleagues as the most delicious Italian place. Tried 4 dishes: 2 appetizers and 2 mains. For appetizers we had garlic bread and bruschetta. Very yummy 🤤 !!! I think they use whole grain mustard seeds to add the flavor to the bread. The bread was very buttery with a melted cheese on top and this is exactly how I wanted. Bruschetta was very refreshing. There are 4 pieces in each appetizers. We got full after finishing apps. But really couldn’t stop eating it. For the main we tried regatoni venison and tortellini amatriciana. My personal preference was for regatoni. The sauce was very good . Maybe had brandy or cognac in it , but not overwhelming. Really tasty ! Tortellini amatriciana not so much to my taste. But we all have our own preference. The atmosphere was nice. There was some retro music playing on the background. Its actually a very vibrant place. I can imagine that its a great spot to go with a company of friends to have a good time chatting and laughing. If you are looking for a place to have a quiet dinner, you might want to reconsider. This place is full of energy and bright colors ! I will come back .

Two minds about this place. Great atmosphere and authentic menu but food is very rich and oily. If you like that style you will definitely enjoy it.

Food, wine and service impeccable. Glasses could have been cleaner and the seats a little more comfortable. Value for money if you're looking to splurge a little and feel full after the meal.

Nicolini's was fantastic! The wait staff were friendly, helpful and professional. The atmosphere was very authentic and heartwarming. Most importantly, all three of us (ordering three different meals) agreed that the food was the best Italian food we have ever had! We couldn't fault our experience, would 100% recommend and will be coming back.

Yummy food. And an incredibly nice staff. Only half of our party could be there as the rest of the people were stuck on the (very) late ferry. The staff were very understanding, and as helpful as possible.

First Class. The food was excellent. Great tomato soup, superb garlic prawns and the Rigatoni Roma was something special. A fery laid back, relaxed and traditional feeling atmosphere. The wait staff were excellent, including apologising for a short delay on a busy night. I couldn't fault it.

Nicolini's was vibrant and busy at the front when we arrived around 730 on a Thursday evening without a booking. We were seated in the smaller area out the back; it was perfect for a quiet catch up with a friend over dinner after work. Prompt and friendly service throughout the evening. The background music was great, made us feel we were somewhere in Italy. Spaghetti Prawns; juicy plump prawns, not shy with the black olives, well balanced with sundried tomato and chili Fettuccini Puttanesca; looked good, black olives peaking out of a lush tomato sauce.

So good!! Everything is just perfect!! Love the garlic bread and garlic mushroom. Our new little gem spot in town. Definitely recommended!!!

5 stars are not enough! Last time I ate lasagne that good was in Rome last year, that was amazing Nicolini's. The tiramisu and short black... to die for. If you ever wanted to eat like they do in Italy but don't want to go there, go to Nicolini's instead, a taste of Rome in Wellington.

We had the antipasto, pescatora, rigatoni roma, the raspberry cheesecake and chocolate torte. Everything was absolutely delicious. Portions were generous and the prices were very reasonable. The service was top notch. The wines were well described by our waitstaff and they suggested the perfect match for our meal. We will be returning.

Really good.italian food! I liked the place, its small and cosy. I ordered 2 meals: fettuccine with shrimps and mussels. I think it was 4/5 because i didnt enjoy the bread and garlic in that one and also because the fettuccine had a lot of bell pepper and not other vegetables.

We always enjoy Nicolini's as one of our favourite restaurants in Courtney Place. Bookings are a must if you don't want to wait as this is a popular choice. The food is divine, service excellent and atmosphere is great.

The food as always was amazing. The guy who served us was friendly. A young lady started the shift, tied her hair in a pony tail and joined the team to serve without washing or sanitizing her hands after touching/tying her hair which was disappointing. Glad she didn't touch any of our cutlery/dishes or food otherwise I would have refused to have the food right there and then. Sorry.

Nice little itallian place. A bit cramped but good wine and pasta.

I just had the best garlic bread haha. The chicken penne is also good. Normally for those creamy pasta I will feel a bit hard to finish as the end but for this one is absolutely fine. The girls there are very lovely. Also order an old fashioned , love the fresh citrus aroma. Take away a cheese cake as well.

Possibly the best lasagne I've ever had so good I've been back countless times for it. Great staff, ambience and it's not even expensive. Nico's is always first choice when going out.

Good food with generous portions. We went on Valentines night which was extremely busy, so didn’t have the best service. However I’m sure this would usually be good too, given that the wait staff were lovely albeit rushed off their feet. Definitely recommend this lovey little Italian and would return.

The food was tasty. I had the ravioli with ricotta and pesto and blue cheese and walnut sauce. Also had the bruschetta for the entree which was a decent serving. The customer service was good and food was relatively speedy. Cute interior and decor. Clearly a popular place for a reasonably priced pasta because it was packed. Book early for a seat on the weekend.

Cosy atmosphere and the food was delicious. Even though the place seemed busy we weren't waiting long for our meals. Staff were friendly and went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable 👌

Food excellent. Very tight and crowded (because the food is so good). Service was a little slow, again possibly because they are so busy. We'll worth the visit.

Crumbed calamari was sublime. Fried to perfection so it wasn't greasy. Nestled on a bed of nicely dressed salad. Unfortunately i felt the Tortellini pasta was too thick so it dominated the tasty spinach and cheese filling. The ameriticana tomato sauce was mediocre. Excellent service

First time back in a while , impressed at portion sizes service was fantastic atmosphere is great ,food came out fast but I personally found the pasta quite bland and under seasoned . It was presented to us as a fresh egg fettuccini but I wasn’t convinced it was fresh made egg pasta . Unfortunately it taste like regular store bought pasta , I don’t think I would have cared had they not said fresh made egg pasta .

An awesome dining experience in the heart of Wellington. We we're able to walk in and be given a table for 2 without any hassle. We we're seated and left in peace for 5 minutes to relax and peruse the menu over glasses of water. Before being asked if we would like a glass or bottle of wine, and if ready to order a starter and do we need more time to decide on main course. The garlic bread was beyond Devine, it could even be said to have been pure joy for the taste buds and olfactory. Nicolini's wine cellar has a wide selection of Italian wines as well as New Zealand and Australian to choose from with descriptives about each wine to help choose. All the dishes arrive well presented on the plate and piping hot. As you eat you dine on the love the Italians give their food, each mouthful is an adventure as well as a joy to taste. I strongly recommend Nicolini's for a true Italian dining experience.

We were very happy with our dinner- the whole experience was positive. The wait staff were " on to it"- friendly & efficient. The food, brought to us in a timely manner ( even with a full house), was well presented, tasted great, and was reasonably priced. We are very likely to return!

Just had a fabulous evening at Nicolini's restaurant. The chicken was a perfectly cooked trip down memory lane, tiramasu light and fluffy, limoncello was delicious and all was topped off nicely with hilarious stories from Antonio. Thanks bud, we will be back!

If you are looking for the best and authentic Italian cuisine in Wellington, then Nicolini's is your place to be. What I liked/loved: The best dish I had was creamy mushrooms. It was way too creamy, something I enjoy about the dish a lot. Then, of course, the pasta was delicious as well. I had Ravioli, even though the blue cheese was a little overwhelming as I personally don't like it, it was still something I wanted to have because it's Nicolini's. Vibe: The restaurant has a really nice ambience. The tables have candles which automatically make you feel like you're on a candlelight dinner. I'd suggest it's a good place for a first date as well. Service: Superb service. The staff is nice and willing to provide their insight on which pasta you should go for if you're unsure or confused. Something that helps me to decide better. Overall, I recommend going to Nicolini's for one of the best and fulfilling meals. I also suggest making reservations as it is always full especially if you have plans for the weekend. Don't take a chance of finding an empty table. I've been there several times and I'd go there again.

Had one night in Wellington and had a hankering for Italian. Stumbled upon Nicolini's and didn't regret it. Food was perfect. Good portions and very flavoursome. Staff were so friendly and helpful. The music was great too. It provided a great atmosphere

Had the spaghetti pescatora -- great flavors, fresh seafood and generous serving. Bolognese was very good too and so was the calamari. The wait staff was attentive. Will definitely be back.

Cute place, great prices and food. Some of the sauces can be quite heavy/rich but still yummy.. Might be a good Idea to get a side of olives or something if you're not someone who enjoys that!

We visited Nicolinis situated in Courtney St after a mediocre dinner in Cuba St last night. Very deceiving from the front as the restaurant has a back room. Extremely comfortable, attentive and friendly staff who served amazing authentic Italian food. Compliments to the Chef who obviously puts lots of love into his cooking. It’s a shame we are moving on as we definitely would go back to try more delicious items on the menu. Well priced and generous portions. Highly recommended.

The most amazing food and service! We were overnight visitors to Wellington and walked past Nicolini's. Made a last minute booking for 6 and did not regret it. Beautifully cooked pasta dishes and amazing deserts including the best ever profiteroles!

It's been a while since we made it into Nicolini's, but I'm glad we did. Even though the space looks like it will be noisy and busy, the reality is that it's easy to have a nice meal in an intimate setting. We were well attended to from the moment we arrived, but never interrupted. There orders were taken quickly and the entrees arrived only minutes later. If anything, the portions might be on the large size, which may impact on dessert options, but that's not a horrible problem to have. I know I'm cheerleading for the place, but there are good reasons for that, and good reasons why it's often quite busy. Great food and great service.

We went to Nicolini's last night and we're blown away with the quality food and attentive friendly staff/service. Our meals were served promptly and were delicious, full of flavour, hot and plentiful. Our deserts were awesome ( tiramisu), large portions and beautifully presented. Nothing was too much trouble for the lovely staff. The atmosphere was relaxing, cosy and enjoyable. Thank you Nicolini's, we will definitely be back and recommend to other people

We ordered our meals and 15 minutes later it was served. Drinks were ordered before ordering our meals and served promptly. The meals were just so tasty and presented to a high standard. The restaurant was fully booked and they had enough staff to cover this. Would I go back again, heck Yes! The staff were so warm and welcoming. Their prices so very reasonable. We had 11 people at our table. Thank you for a wonderful evening Nicolini's.

This restaurant is on my list of recommendations. Well, it was at least until this evening. The food is always delicious. However their service seems to be slipping. After a rocket start with our starter and entree, we finished and waited 30 minutes for our mains. In the mean time we were not spoken too, updated or checked in on. I'd like to have had a second or even third beer, however I was never afforded the opportunity. As I've said, absolutely delicious. Shame about the people skills.

The place located on couterny place is nice and definitely a date location provided it was a bit less louder, the service staff was cheerful and welcoming, we were three of us and ordered different food, the home made bread was beautiful, I highly recommend it, however my soup of the day was a bit disappointing, it did start well but, half way through I actually had a shreds of greated cheese that were not melted, not very much acceptable to my palate, however my main course of veal was beautiful, had good flavours however I do wish, I would have told to reduce sweetness, but that's my fault, the food presented was really good. And also the other food that came to table was nice, we liked the place.

It is a cosy and comfortable place, with a very private feeling to it. The food is good and portions are fair. I have been treated well by staff and had no issues during my entire meal. They also have specials that offer more affordable options. It doesn't have that wow factor. I wasn't blown away by the food or staff, however, I actually liked it. Everything would be what you would expect. For me, that's good. Therefore, I do recommend this place for a romantic dinner or a more reserved night out.

Had one of the best creamy mushroom soup ever. I will not give a 5 star as the bread was quite a bit desappointing. Too oily and would have prefered a crousty plain baguette instead. The Tiramisu was unfortunately not too crazy, with a light taste of cofee but not too sweet which was nice. The staff was very quick and caring to our needs.

Really enjoy the food here. Being from London and having a lot of boring Italian restaurants here, which are usually tasteless and expensive. We were on a group tour and hungry. Our tour guide recommended it, so I thought why not, I can deal with some plain Italian food and it's easy. We arrived late and it was busy but we got a table downstairs in a nice romantic setting. We ordered the spaghetti prawns, lasagne, cannelloni and bolognese. All these dishes were lovely and really tasty, the service was great and all in all we had a great time. So thank you for changing my mind on Italian food 😃

Nicolini's has all the atmosphere of a proper, traditional, family run, Italian restaurant. The food is masterfully prepared, and served in generous portions by attentive, helpful, cheerful staff. Highly recommended.

Last Friday night we booked for 4 people for pre theatre meal. Unfortunately after placing our order my husband felt unwell and went outside for air and collapsed. We were advised not to worry about our order very kindly supporting us. We will be back to experience our meals ASAP

Cosy place, great service, tasty food. Food was not as fancy as some other places in Wellington, but created a memorable experience. Comfortable sound design (can't hear the next table's conversations).

Excellent authentic italian food, very good ambience for an intimate night out!

A lovely little Osteria with a perfect Italian atmosphere and fare. It feels just like any side street Osteria in Italy, and the menu is a mouthwatering selection of some traditional piatti. It was difficult to choose a dish, but in the end I was well pleased with my ricotta and pesto ravioli with blue cheese, cream and walnut sauce. My husband hoovered his delicious lamb ragu, and I tried to be a little more reserved with my delicious pinot grigio. The service was very attentive, the music and decor was just lovely. Will definitely be back.

Excellent food and service, and decent prices too. Just make sure you reserve a table in advance, they're always so busy, so you'll probably get turned away otherwise.

Nice affordable Italian restaurant in the city. Downside is it's quite small but very busy, thus feels stuffy. You can even hear the conversation from the next table.

The BEST food in Wellington! Abolsutely amazing food and ambience and lovely people. 11/10.

Our once a year visit whilst in Wellington and still delights in staff menu food and ambience.

Staff were pleasant and efficient, food was tasty and understood about catering for coeliac. Always a good, reliable place to eat.

Raffaele has been feeding me at his restaurants for nearly thirty years. My wife and I had our first date at Nicolini's in 1998, when I ordered the best veal marsala of my life - the tender meat resting on a bed of bread to mop up the delicious sauce. Perhaps I should be ashamed to admit that I have never ordered any other main there since, much as my wife and friends have raved about the seafood pasta and other delights. Such is Raffaele's intense devotion to his craft, ingredients and Italian culture, he was the obvious choice when I needed a passionate Italian spokesman for an ad campaign for one of the better olive oils. Having moved to the Wairarapa, tonight was our first meal at Nicolini's for some years. The weather was freezing and common sense suggested a venue much closer to our base. But Nicolini's was the only place I could get excited about. I did worry that my favourite Wellington chef might have moved on and his restaurant gone off the boil. There was no need for concern. There to greet us as we walked in was the same cheery, chatty Raffaele and son Marlon. To no one's surprise, I ordered the veal. As usual, it was perfect.

except prices, everything in this place is perfect. Cozy, Romantic and warm! Staff are outstanding and food is tasty and portions is really good. I would go there again and recommend it for sure.

Great meal, did go through the whole do you have a reservation BS. Which is annoying especially when it just on six pm and the place is empty. Won't stop me going, might mean I mock them a bit.

Try the ravioli, it is so good! I wanted to have dessert but was so full from dinner, I plan to go back just to try the tiramisu!
