Reviews of Noble Rot Wine Bar
J.
We were given a voucher as a wedding present for dinner at Noble Rot Wine Bar, what an extraordinary experience. The atmosphere is so lovely, the service is off the planet and the food and wine are just delicious. Totally recommend going. We will definitely be going back xo
C.
We cannot fault the service or the atmosphere - very extensive wine list, very knowledgeable staff, and great ambience. The food was less impressive. We had the 6 course degustation and left 2 of the dishes virtually untouched. When it came to paying the bill we were erroneously overcharged 120 however picked this up before we left and was refunded this. Overall average experience
M.
Excellent service, atmosphere and overall experience. Food was absolutely fantastic, specially the risotto starter!
Only cons was that we had to wait 30 min, even though we had a booking, for getting our table ready.
September/ 2021 another visit to this place
H.
Wow just wow. The food was absolutely divine. The flavors, amazing! They pair everything up so perfectly.
The service was impeccable, with very friendly staff and they way they explained each course was fun and brought excitement waiting for the next one to arrive.
Definitely recommend a visit to Noble Rot wine bar for a good fine dining experience.
S.
Wonderful dinner here, including the service, the food and the extensive wine list. Nice ambience with the different rooms. Market fish of the day was fantastic and nice serving size. Jess the sommelier was professional and very knowledgeable.
N.
Fantastic service, amazing wine and vegan food. Thank you to the awesome staff who made our anniversary very special. See you next time! Cheers
A.
Had the 6 course degustation with my wife. Food was decent, the appetiser was amazing but the main fell a little flat. Savory desert was delicious but orange desert didn't taste great. The waitress was great, however the serving times were slow at nearly 30 mins between dishes.
S.
Great, European wine bar. Amazing selection of wines, loved the tasting flights. Awesome bar snacks and very popular dining room. A great way to round out a convivial evening
S.
This is a must do in Wellington. Probably the best wine selection in NZ and the degustation is unreal. Friendly staff with superb knowledge on wine. Already cannot wait to come back!
M.
I wish I could give Noble Rot more than 5 Stars.
Stunning wine list, amazing service and exceptional food.
Thank you Maciej, Jessica and team – you make Wellington a better place to live.
L.
Another one of my all time fave places in Wellington, Noble Rot is just immaculate. Amazing wine list, delicious food and personalised service. We are never disappointed.
T.
We recently visited Noble Rot for the first time and have to ask ourselves why did take so long to experience this fabulous wine bar!
The wine list was very extensive and the service was excellent.
Jade from Vancouver Island Canada looked after us and she was superb.
We also purchased a mystery box of 3 wines here. Upon opening the mystery box we were very happy with the contents.
Thanks Jade and team for a great experience.
Cheers Tom and Jill.

The wine selection is incomparable to anywhere else we've been in NZ. If you're missing the terroir of home, you can find something to please the palate here.
Tasteful, modern decor create an upscale and relaxed vibe. The servers are knowledge about the wine making process as well as having a good understanding of their menu.
They, also serve food. We've mainly stuck to cheeses as they have a good local variety.
******update*******
Tonight we visited to try the six course degustation.
The amuse-bouche was chicken liver parfait in a pastry which was too heavy for the mousse.
The coconut in the first dish dominated the remaining flavours. The 2nd was a seaweed crumpet with a creamy prawn which tasted very similar to a bagel with lox.
The 3rd dish had heavy cheese flavored pastries, caramelized onions, and other uninspiring flavors. The 4th was an aged beef with a sauce of tomato and hot sauce which had a strange bland, creamy texture.
The 5th dish was a flame burnt cheese presented as a cheese platter creme brulee with maple syrup. It's not good.
The finale, a chocolate mousse was only made good by a blast of berry in the middle but the remaining dessert was a bit boring.
Overall the meal was a mishmash of different flavours none of which were well integrated or showed great innovation.
I'm disappointed because this is a very good wine bar but they'd do better to offer a menu of high end appetizers and standards with their delicious drinks menus.
K.
Great food and service. Have since realised I booked the wrong day and they accommodated us without me even realising I'd made a mistake with our booking. Thank you!
J.
Great wine bar. The sommelier is very knowledgeable. The wine selection is pretty good, however many are only by the bottle. Also, I was a little let down by the selection of NZ wines. We have some seriously beautiful wines especially from the smaller boutique vineyards. Don't pass up the oysters or the pat'e.
J.
Loved the wine and food platter. Enjoyable soujourn for a wine and a plate.
K.
Disappointed. First, the good news: the chicken liver parfait I ordered was delicious and nicely presented. But the wine pour was stingy; I was almost finished with the glass of wine when the appetizer arrived. I noticed the person next to me got a normal sized glass of wine. The French waiter was odd. When I walked in the restaurant he asked "can I help you?" as though I was doing something wrong .Of course, I walked in to try the wine and snacks. When I asked to see the bottle of the wine I ordered, he snatched it away as though I was going to pour myself more wine. They only carried two sauvignon blanc by the glass. The place seems like a tourist trap.
M.
Maciej is superb as always. The wine selection is bar none and the staff all know their stuff.
The issue is, Noble Rot was my favourite restaurant for quite some time, but isn't now. Someone in the kitchen has changed/left. I know the head chef hasn't changed but someone or thing has, as there has been an obvious shift in quality. The food about 12 months back was melt in your mouth and quick out. The last 3 visits in the last 10 months (we were waiting for things to improve), the food is good, but not superb.
Tonight, we waited about an hour between entree and main, which when raised with the waiting staff, was told there were large groups. Well be as it may, we could see no one was being served anything prior for quite some time and when they did it was platters.
Re: the shift in quality, I have had similar comments from friends that it just isn't what it used to be.
Not one I'll rush back to, when I have options elsewhere, which is a shame. I hope they make some changes to get back on top.
B.
Great dinner spot for wine lovers. Overall the food was excellent, though the venison was a bit unbalanced.
D.
Amazing wine and excellent knowledge of the wine by the staff. Had a very fun wine tasting experience with the man from France, he knows his stuff. Also was well taken care of with delicious food and fast service. Just awesome
P.
Love the place. Loved the wine. The service was top notch. Thank you for a very engaging experience. Will visit next time we are in town.
Cheers
S.
I rarely submit a 5 star. It's like a unicorn descending. This place has so many wines that it's hard to choose. Go for premium if you are particular. The choices are amazing. Totally recommending the new Zealand ones. And while you are at it, order the Parma ham. You won't regret it.
A.
Amazing. Everything you want. Service is top quality. Wine selection is great - but most importantly the staff are trained well to assist you in your choice (as the selection is vast). The food is beautiful from the presentation to the flavour. And if you just wanted something small then sit at the bar and grab a cheese board. I’ve never had a bad experience here and in my opinion, it’s the best restaurant in Wellington. Hands down.
J.
Absolutely top end food and wine. Fantastic service.huge range of top wines. We were amazed about the different taste combinations - absolutely brave and creative.
Totally fair priced.
We loved it and be back for sure !!!
J.
Fantastic! Amazing wine list, lovely food and wonderful service!
A.
Adored their cheese board! Great cheese selection, crispy bread, and grapes. Their wasabi pea risotto was amazing, too!
It’s a fairly pricey place but if you have money to spend then sure!
E.
Maciej and the team at Noble Rot were amazing from initial enquiry through to the event evening. We asked Noble Rot to host an intimate wine tasting evening with dinner. It was more than just a few wines in front of us, there was a story to tell. Maciej was very engaging and funny, it made for a wonderful event.
G.
Absolutely amazing food. Definitely cant go wrong and get to wash it all down with a great wine.
P.
Great atmosphere with intuitive amazing wait staff - so nice to be in a space where you don't feel rushed out the door ....too many restaurants in Wellington have lost the love at the moment. Upsell upsell upsell ..... Entrees, mains ...drink..drink.... Another drink? .... Not last night - it was such a great night. Great food and wine. Loved it.
M.
My favorite place to enjoy a great meal and marvelous wines. The staff are very knowledgeable and the service is excellent.
M.
Degustation from the experts! We thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience here at Noble Rot ... and what a great and appropriate name too. Food was out of this world, experimentation to perfection with beautifully matched wines, exquisite wines in fact, and well worth repeating. Tonight's venture was a treat that will be remembered for a long time. Jess, the waitress was outstanding, her knowledge of each dish was impeccable, and she was a total delight to share company with, AND, Josh certainly knows, and is passionate about, his wine. What an experience! Thank you guys: 20 /10
M.
Our meal at Noble Rot was spectacular. Flavours complex and beautifully composed. We loved that the vegetables were perfectly cooked and rich in taste. The service was very professional and respectful. We are not wine conniseurs, but those at other tables seemed to be highly impressed by the wine selection. Regardless, it is worth checking out for the food alone.
H.
Extensive wine collection presented with flair, passion and knowledge.
S.
Came here as a group of 12, our vegan guest was catered to and everyone had a great experience. We were seated in the private space at the front of the restaurant and had a set menu. The staff were friendly and knew their wines, the food was amazing, and the venue is beautiful.
10/10 would recommend, and will definitely be coming back. :)
k.
Went when Cuba dupa was on and still as I write this. Great service even when really busy. Beautiful wines. And as luck would have it we got a window seat when troy kingi was doing his set right outside.
S.
A fantastic food and wine experience. The food is stunning. The wine list is mind blowing. The service is superb.
A.
Had a friends birthday there. Friendly helpful staff
K.

A.
It’s all about the wine here. Every single choice for the degustation pairing was spot on (except the Zephyr Gewurtztraminer which tasted like soap).
The only disappointing dish was the duck terrine where it would have been a lovely dish if they’d just ditched the tasteless terrine itself. The bread and beetroot purée it came with were fantastic.
Great atmosphere and a fun night.
A.
Second visit, just as good as the first. Our sommeliers wine knowledge and food match was fantastic. Well worth a visit, especially if you're into your wines!
B.
Outstanding food and service. I have done a lot of degustations. This was top tier.
B.
A great little place! A fantastic selection of wines and good food on offer. The place has an intimate feel even though it was busy when we went (a Saturday night). The staff were very attentive. Would definitely go back.
S.
The best wine list I have yet seen in NZ is backed up with an excellent, if small, menu and attentive, knowledgeable service. The restaurant is separated from the wine bar, and is remarkable for being cosy and quiet enough to converse, despite the minimalist decor and hard surfaces. Highly recommended.
T.
Highly recommend! We had an outstanding dinner last night. The duck breast was absolutely delicious - what an inventive combination of flavors. Friendly and knowledgeable staff and ambience spot on. Wish we were in Wellington to enjoy a second meal at Noble. Oh and the wines were very well selected!
G.
Really loved this place, on first visit. Why don’t we have a wine bar like this, with a wine list of pages of wines by the glass under Coravin, and 100 & 150 ml options, in Auckland?! Great food too!
K.
I’m no wine expert but as a resident from wine country - Barossa South Australia, living in NZ - in my modest opinion this is the best wine bar in NZ - a wine list that makes travelling anywhere else (perhaps in the world) a waste of time and money. You’ve got it all at home you lucky kiwis xx
S.
Great way to end off the night ! Cheese, good wine and fine friendly people. What more can you ask for ??
K so not the best picture but hey ! Well worth a visit :)
M.
Perfect birthday celebration! 6 courses meal with matching wines was a perfect evening. Jessi a was a perfect host! Will come again...
I.
Amazing service and knowledge on wine, an experience to be enjoyed
K.
Outstanding food and wine with excellent service. The fish (Grouper) was brilliantly cooked. Just popped in with my partner for a mains and a glass of wine and left happy but a touch hungry. The mains was a bit smaller than I would have expected. Maybe 3 courses are the norm? Oh but so yummy.
M.
Best wine selection in Wellington. With personable owner on premises, and friendly staff who know their stuff. Plenty of space inside and out for casual drink and eat. Proper restaurant area as well. Food is good quality. Can get busy quickly from 5:30 because it's so damn good.
K.
The wine is superb and so is the food. The staff are friendly and super helpful! They really make you feel special!
J.
Great wine selection and very nice staff.
D.
Incredible set menu and stellar customers service.
Bit on the pricey side, but worth the money for a special occasion.
R.
Came here after seeing good reviews and I was not at all disappointed! We all got the WOAP set menu which was absolutely beautiful and beautiful wine too. Our waitress was very knowledgeable about each course which was awesome to see. Im coeliac and the chef was very helpful changing around the set menu to suit my needs. Will definitely be around for another visit
W.
Great ambiance. Great food. Awesome wine list but staff knowledge of the list varied from extensive to limited. Highly recommended but ask for someone who knows the wine well.
T.
As much as I hated to see Duke Carvell's go, it's also wonderful to welcome a great wine bar - one of the very few in the city!
K.
Dude. Amazing wine selection! Knowledgeable staff. Good, well made cocktails. And delicious menu.
A bit pricey to be my "Casual Local Haunt", but by no means prohibitively expensive for a special treat. And I suspect that is what the Management is after. :)
S.
Amazing restaurant. Food, wine list, service and atmosphere are outstanding!
C.
Cool wine bar. A place where you can try some unusual wines - fantastic variety of wines from around the world with friendly and knowledgeable people. So far we have tried wines and bar snacks but the dinner menu looks good as well. Makes a nice change from craft beer :-)
A.
Our visit to Noble Rot was nothing short of fantastic.
From the moment we arrived, to the moment we departed, we were looked after superbly by Jess and Maciej.
Jess helped us through the food menu and the ever impressive wine list, providing exceptional recommendations and advice in all areas.
On a whole we all loved the inventive and flavoursome dishes that were served for entrée, main and dessert.
However, the vegetarian amongst us felt there was room for more excitement in this option and this was mentioned to and noted by Maciej.
The ambiance and buzz of the space was energetic, reflecting the popularity of this spot.
Overall, very highly recommended to anyone looking for delicious food accompanied by arguably the best wine selection in Wellington.
We will definitely return.
D.
Awesome place. Great reccomendations for wine and a fun blind wine flight to test your wine tasting skills. Extensive selection and great service. Spent an extra 2 hours here than planned because of the service.
J.
Just fantastic. Superb service great beverage list and food.
We let the team guide us on our wine choices and are never disappointed.
Best in Wellington. Go visit.
F.
We loved it here. Not a very extensive menu but everything was first class. Lots of wines to choose from. Helpful staff and an enjoyable evening.
F.
Great wine selection and knowledge by the wait staff. The food was almost great, but just lacking the refinement you would expect for the price (e.g. the duck skin not crispy - duck cooked lovely, but skin not quite good enough). But other than that a good night.
A.
Nice atmosphere and great wine choices. This place can get busy sometimes so you may have to wait awhile for a table. Very knowledgeable staff.
L.
A nice little place tucked away down swan lane, an extensive wine list and very good food. Desert was nice but the promises of chilli and lime in the lamington wasn't forthcoming which was a bit of a let down. Overall a good night out.
H.
Great selection of wines. Great food. Excellent service. Cosy atmosphere not too noisy yet busy. Highly recommended.
P.
The service and staff are great. The wide selection of wine is excellent. However the wine prices are expensive, as a result I would not choose to go their again despite being a high income earner
J.
A great, great wine bar and restaurant. If you love wine this is the place for you in Wellington. A classic look and atmosphere with friendly, attentive, knowledgeable service. Ask for a recommendation of a wine from the local Wellington Wine Country region.
M.
Really cosy, intimate setting to catch up with friends - with delicious wine! Cheese boards were lovely too. Service was fabulous and staff were super friendly and attentive, to my child as well. Will definitely be visiting again - sans Master Ten.
B.
Great meal, with excellent service in a lovely environment. Wine list is extensive, filled with lots of local gems. Food was interesting and delicious, especially the green pea and strawberry dessert and the lamb entree.
B.
Very pleased with the atmosphere, suttle music inbthe background so normal conversation is possible. Staff were friendly, and polite which is not very common in Wellington these days. Good wine selec tion and the food was tasty. Overall very pleased with the place. I would go again and would happily recommend to friends.
S.
Beautiful meal and wonderful attentive staff! The meal was faultless and the wine was lovely. Great atmosphere as well, cosy and warm. An amazing spot in Wellington!
A.
Feels like a not-very-secret best-kept-secret. An inspiring wine list with knowledgeable but engaging staff - no surprises it's popular! Realised I need to go back to eat as well as drink, and I can't wait.
C.
Enjoyed a wonderful dinner and glass of wine here on Christmas Eve. We ordered the fish of the day and veal with beets - both were amazing. Zucchini side dish was also excellent.
J.
Superb selection of wines. I always have a couple of Negronis here. Havent eaten yet but menu looks nice. Cosy.
B.
Outstanding food and wine! A very special place not to miss.
Great pleasure to meet the owner. Highly recommend for a glass of wine or dinner with friends.
A.
First visit - just popped in for a quick drink and was blown away by the staff, ambience, menu and drinks list. Can't wait to keep coming back, looking forward to having a favourite local haunt!
S.
Great food and excellent service. Amazing wine selection and value for money. Had a memorable evening.
C.
Ducked in for a quick afternoon wine and stayed until closing time - this place is the best! The sommelier may have confused us with Megs and Harry, such was the royal treatment we two giggling ladies received. Could not recommend more highly!
n.
Wine list is impressive, and the food is fantastic. Been there twice now and all my dishes were amazing. Staff could be a lot more attentive though.
K.
great oysters, patee and great wines. we had a bottle of martinborough pinot (natural, but not too funky) and brought as well a bottle of the super rare kusuda pinot noir. owners a great, they had great suggestions.
S.
Awesome atmosphere, wine by glass range and conversation at the bar. Let down by ordering error that should of been fixed by the many experienced staff around the new team member rather than made my problem to pay. Flat Billiecart at $23 not a great experience either. Shame as otherwise would be 5 star.
G.
Super knowledgeable staff with an excellent selection of wine matched with beautiful food. What more can you ask for?
Highly recommend
B.
Such a great experience here. Book ahead to avoid disappointment. Asked the sommelier to recommend wines to go with each of our courses and she did a wonderful job.
K.
Noble Rot is a place that is a MUST in Wellington. It's a place that brings true happiness. Why? In a world of homogeneity, it brings a sense of wonder, intrigue and most of all of a true sense kinship.
