Reviews of Spruce Goose
A.
This is a busy cafe, great location near to the airport to get a bite to eat before travelling.
Great service and coffee and the various selection of food we all tried was delicious.
Great for plane spotting and watching take offs over the harbour. Beach across the road.
C.
Nice busy place to have a meal. Quick polite stuff, always great pie/tart/cake variety. Awesome view, lovely looking rusty interior - this is a good kids friendly place for any part of the day. I wish Goose has longer hours on Thursdays-Saturdays. Thank you!
H.
Amazing location with beautiful views, especially on a sunny Wellington day, and real cool decor. But the food is not good value for money. I had the pulled pork tacos and got 3 small tacos for $26. The meals are a little over-priced for what you get and the customer service was very average. Our coffees and drinks arrived after our meals and one drink was almost forgotten about. Staff were unattentive and unfriendly. I wouldn't rush back there.
A.
A great spot for watching the planes land as well as watch the sea. Quite loud inside and only good to sit outdoors on a nice (not windy) day. Food was adequate, pail not full pail so was disappointing
J.
Overall a 3/5. I would like to give it more, but it wouldn't be a true reflection of our experience today.
Location is great, with wonderful sea views and watching the planes at the airport. Staff are amazing as well; really good service.
The food was average, with decent prices. Have heard that the food from the cabinet is really good. I will probably come back and give the cabinet food a go.
A point to note, when they say a pail full of wings, etc. It is only partially full. Bulked up with scrunched up paper underneath. In saying that though, they are pretty decent serving sizes for the price.
The place is very popular and was quite noisy inside. Outside seating available and is dog friendly.
S.
Is always great to come to this place, the food is great, the environment and the staff are lovely. I do recommend to work on the coffee is average, but the food is great!
J.
Decidedly average - and I don't know why people think sweaty brioche buns work for a burger. The chips were nice. The eggs benny somewhat insipid and lacking finesse. If you don't want to enjoy a quiet conversation, go here!
K.
Been here many times over the years and always loved it for its chilled out location, great food and friendly service. Heard from the staff tonight that it’s been tough during covid times so thought a review was overdue! Top spot ! Recommended
P.
Really good views, cool vibe and yummy fries
M.
One of the greatest places I’ve ever been in Wellington to have a nice coffee with great view and nice staff honestly 🤗
R.
Service was not very good. The waitresses are snobby teenagers. They didn’t offer us water or even asked us our orders. They both just stood by our table and didn’t say anything. Menu was ok. Presentation of the food 5/10. When we got our order the waitress just put it on the table and didn’t say anything. There was not enough cutlery for 2 people and when we asked for additional cutlery the girl gave my partner an upset look. Overall experience was 6/10.
J.
Had a lovely lunch today. Fabulous table with a view over the ocean and watching the surfing. Our meals were really nice, a seafood chowder and the smashed avocado, with tomato. Both meals were delicious and served promptly by a lovely young waitress. Recommend this place to anyone who enjoys good food and really neat surroundings. Thank you Spruce Goose
J.
Pleasant brunch spot next to the beach. Food was tasty, atmosphere good.
Pulled pork tacos were flavourful and filling! Big portions with their milkshakes too - big thumbs up.
T.
Went there for brunch with a friend. Great service and polite and quick service with a excellent variety of food . We had seafood Chowder that i didn't take a photo of .
M.
Good vibe and good place for nice people to hang out and catch up. Please be patient to where you go for joys and happiness and please expect the right courtesy.
In general, this is the heaven place to go and please be nice and be kind as always to the people who works behind for your goodness 😊.
C.
Nice location right by the airport on the coast. Good basic range of options. A wee bit barn like - but we enjoyed the meal. Good burger for me.
n.
We went for a brunch.. The food was amazingly delicious and tasty.... I really loved the location.. Outdoor seating was available so you can bring along your furry pet friends with you and can enjoy the food with the view.. the staff was polite, friendly and the service was super quick.. Ambience was cozy... Worth a visit .. ! :)
H.
Great views of the airport. To get best seats book ahead. Burgers were yummy and prices not to bad. Down fall is that they did not have list of spirits on the table nor did staff inform us on their range so could not order a drink. Only beer, wine and cider on menu but too bad if you don't drink those.
R.
Great spot by the sea, and a fantastic place for plane spotters right next to the runways of Wellington airport! Good coffee and food, always good for a visit.
A.
It was my first time here and would definitely come again. We sat outside in the sun and it was a beautiful view. There was a bit of a wait for food but it was mid morning Sunday so it's to be expected. I had the bacon & banana waffles, they were delicious! My friends had full breakfasts and they looked amazing as well. The hot chocolate was really good, my friend rated their smoothie. We all really enjoyed our meals, thanks!
S.
Very nice food, extremely busy. Large queues but handled well by staff. Nice place to go for inside or outside eating.
G.
Very busy place & first in first served.
Food is fast & good for both tastebuds, as well as tummy.
Ginger beer was a bonus with a nice subdued zing that stayed in the mouth.
P.
Beautiful view to the beach waterfront. It was great sitting outside and watched the planes landing and taking off. Lovely atmosphere and the food was great.
c.
Me and My BF went for Breakfast on a Saturday, was pretty busy however the service was pretty fast. About the food. We ordered the big Breakfast and the Veggie one. Sausage was no good same the hashbrowns no much flavors in there. Was Ok. I been there in another occasion and I have tried burgers and they are pretty good. The place is lovely plenty space and great view of the beach. Nice and smooth coffee. Prices in average.
m.
Love the vibe and service of staff. Food was enjoyable. Views, sights and sounds my son really enjoyed the moments. Would happily go back there again
M.
Fantastic location, great panoramic view of Lyall Bay and Wellington Airport. Always interesting to watch people surfing and para-sailing in the bay and plane spotting. Good selections of cabinet food as well menu and daily specials
J.
Satisfaction. The lively atmosphere. Busy but enjoyable. Cheerful staff.
Reasonable prices and generous servings of their meals. Have tried their Spruce Goose waffles and seafood chowder and they are delicious. Great place to start your day.
What else could you ask more from having a delightful meal and a splendid sea view in one place?🙂
J.
Amazing location and good service. The burger wasn’t my favorite but I’ll definitely return. View is phenomenal.
K.
Lovely place, great atmosphere and a beautiful view. One if the best pies I've eaten in a long time.
P.
Enjoyed my experience here. Enjoyed my seafood chowder & chocolate tart. Enjoyed sitting outside looking out to the beach.
M.
Very nice place. Great views with the planes flying in and the ocean behind. Food was very nice, quick turn around as the place is super busy. Great coffee... But it's Wellington... Everywhere has amazing coffee.
J.
Location 👌 with nice view and heaps or parking.
Service 😁 warm and vibrant employees
Fast service eventhough its busy (went 2x during Sundays)
Ambiance 🤟 cool interior
Food 4.5 stars, but beautifully presented
J.
Amazing view but food is underwhelming. We ordered a salt and pepper squid pail and seafood chowder. Portion was okay but food was not seasoned enough so they taste quite bland. Good customer service and tidy place.
K.
The best scenery Cafe Restaurant, a beautiful place for dining with gorgeous scenery overlooking Cookstrait Wellington with surfers around and ships sailing ⛵ through Planes flying in and out ✈🛩🛫🛬👍👍👍👍👍⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
G.
Lovely place and view.
Calamari rings superb for one diner. Chowder definitely not for the other.
F.
one of the best cafe for ocean view & also watch airplane landing & taking off. I really love this place. but the food is average & also too popular during weekend. Always have to wait for a while to get a table. but it is definitely worth to visit
H.
Tasty food, funky entertaining environment, friendly staff. Especially nice when you can enjoy the outside environment of sun, surfers and dogs. It has an inclusive party atmosphere. It is one of our regular choices for lunch, dinner or just a coffee and cake from their especially large display of tempting treats.
M.
It's very easy to love this place. It's affordable and it has great service. I first ordered an iced coffee milkshake ($7) that was nicely presented and tasted great, made with some house made ice cream. Then, a cheese cob loaf, which was incredibly cheesy and absolutely delicious ($8). The main was Veal with mushrooms and mashed potatoes ($27), once again, amazing and delicious. For desert, a chocolate pana cotta ($13) that sealed the fate of this business as one that I would definitely recommend. That was all shared between two people and we were not hungry when we left (we actually eat a lot). It was an amazing three course dinner for $55. The staff was very helpful and friendly at all times. The only mishap was not being able to connect to the wifi, although it claims to have it. They have an excellent view of the airport, if you're also an avid plane fan like me. Excellent restaurant.
R.
Great ratings and reviews are usually a reliable marker these days, and at 4.2 on Zomato and Google, Spruce Goose lives up to it’s rep. The decor is modern rustic, with coloured metal fittings and art pieces, mirrors etc. It’s a large space, with plenty of outside seating too, when the weather permits. Windows and glass doors offer full views of beach and sea frontage, and who doesn’t enjoy that, right?
It’s a late lunch solo date for me, and I don’t want to spoil my appetite for dinner, but even so, I end up with a large chicken, Brie and cranberry panini, plus a berry smoothie. The heated panini is so tasty, complimented with a side of homemade tomato chutney. I relish every bite. The smoothie wasn’t the best I’ve had (spoilt by Boost smoothies), but it’s still pretty good, and at $7, good value for a smoothie these days. The service is warm and cheerful, and table service is the rule here, which feels a little formal at first, but I quickly grow to like it. Free wifi too - happy days!
N.
Busy and vibrant. Good service, great view towards the sea while having your meal. Highly recommended. Very close to Wellington airport
A.
The location was beautiful with sea and airfield views. The staff were friendly, welcoming and accommodating bringing us highchairs and warming baby food for us. The meal was fresh, tasty and a generous size. We will definitely be back
P.
We stopped in for a hot cuppa, coffee and tea.. the waitress was very friendly and accommodating. I asked for a strong tea, she kindly offered to add more tea leaves in the pot. I had a most delightful and refreshing pot of strong English breakfast tea. I'm very happy! We didn't eat this time, but I have eaten here many times before... and have always had an enjoyable dining experience. Love their menu, and the food in the cabinets. Cheers 😍
S.
We were seated quickly and the service was fast and very friendly. I had the mushrooms on toast with feta which was delicious. Coffee was fantastic too. Great to sit in the window and watch the surfers and the planes land 👌
D.
They are really good on service and have a great range of food, they did run out of buns for burgers, but managed to source a few gluten free ones which actually tasted OK.
C.
Not a fan. Place gives me school canteen vibes, beer selection is standard and vegetarian options are pretty limited. Only recommend to visitors because of the location. Not a bad place though, just not my cup of tea.
D.
You enjoy the view over Layll Bay and the airport. Watch the planes coming in amd leaving while having some great food.
T.
Exactly what we needed after trekking through 8km of loose sand and gravel. Had an absolute unit of a burger and totally murdered it. One of the best things about this joint is that it doesn't close as early as other places. The cosy atmosphere, affordable and delicious food and great beer makes this one of my favorite restaurants in Wellington. 10/10 would visit again.
D.
Popped in for breakfast after Round the Bays half marathon. Great prompt service! Received our meals within 10mins of ordering. Yummy food too! Toasted muesli with fresh berries & yogurt, mushrooms on toast and lemon pepper squid in a pail with aioli. All delicious.
A.
Very nice place for dinner with good food. Thank Jina for her service and recommendations. She has provided excellent customer service, 10/10.
T.
Great place to eat awesome food we all has a good time cater for all menus
W.
Big space with indoor and outdoor options. Nice setting down by the waterfront, tasty food and a good (if lukewarm) coffee. I had the avo/pea smash.
F.
Great for family meet ups
E.
Great family place (visited a week night), vintage/ distressed industrial vibe. Service very friendly. Interesting being able to watch planes takeoff and land, it appeared very close to the airport. Panko prawns ( served in a wee bucket) seemed to have a strange texture to my taste but everything else spot on. Definite favourite and worth a visit, especially if you trek out to the Lyall Bay homewares precinct.
E.
Food was delicious, staff are amazing as always. Atmosphere is great but it can get a bit loud inside at times. We showed up with 7 of us and no booking but had a table within about 3 minutes which was amazing. Overall a terrific experience and I definitely recommend this place.
M.
Close to closing for the evening although waiter said there was no rush to leave. Pleasant and attentive waiter; very good service. Table top needed wiping...sticky feel. Food - only snacks available. Small quantities. Adequate preparation. Further visit 24.10.20. Head waiter..an attentive, friendly but professional service. Faultless service. Moved us to a better table. Food preparation improved. Very satisfying dining experience.
G.
Always great for coffee and brunch. Can watch the early morning surfies while slurping your flat white
D.
Good cafe coffee was ok but mince on today epic! they don't need any more reviews but here's 5 stars anyways
C.
Busy and noisey cafe but with great views of the surfers. Good coffee and delicious chips
R.
Great service, amazing view and delicious food.
R.
Good service at a busy time. Generous portions. Nice buzzy atmosphere.
L.
I know a lot of people love this place, but I tend to only go there when other places aren't open or I need some variety. There's often a long wait. It's so loud in there from too much acoustics that I can hardly hear the people at my table. The wait staff often seem annoyed or put out. Food takes a long time.
S.
Bit of a wait on a Sunday morning, but that's to be expected. The service was good, the food was prompt too which was awesome. Coffees were great, food was pretty good.
Eggs bene and the Caesar salad were both excellent. The wellness bowl is a bit average.
T.
Very busy but staff service food was just great..glad it's in my kocal
J.
Stopped for a coffee around 9am while waiting for a flight to arrive. Lots of people there enjoying food and drinks. Great take away coffee quickly produced.
R.
What a lovely setting on a cold rainy day. The service was superb and the fish chowder was to die for. My son's pulled pork tacos looked pretty tasty too. We will be back again for sure.
R.
Celebrating my husbands birthday, Staff very friendly. Everyone in our party of 18 loved the food. We ordered the platters for entrees, and Cobb loaf so cheesy and delicious. omg so good and filling. Couldn't eat all of our mains. Try the platters!
Everyone left happy and we thoroughly enjoyed our night. Definitely be back!
T.
AMAZING MILKSHAKES!!! Best place to chill out and watch planes takeoff and land. Milkshakes are big and yum! If you have time before your flight come here.
K.
Salt and pepper squid..OMG to die for. Wonderful coffee to boot. All served with a decent serving of sea views.. Perfect place.
D.
Open decor, nice wooden deck, good views! A good spot to hang out with friends on a weekend. Went there with a big company. All of us got classic fish and chips. Enjoyed our meal.
The water is self-served. So dont wait for it. Go and get it ! Really liked their aoili. Not sure if its a home made.
M.
A packed house but kai come out in great time..awesome friendly service. Meals were tasty and fresh! Those cakes tho...stunning delicious...for a special treat. Jackpot to have no wind while dinning today.
A.
Good but always very busy so long wait for food
E.
First time to Spruce Goose purely because I know what the lines are like for Brunch there. And for good reason. Great location on the beach and the pumping atmosphere is great. I had eggs benedict which were lovely with a great hollandaise sauce. Service was a little confusing being a cafe and not knowing if you pay before eating or what...
M.
Spruce is always buzzing! Great food and coffee here while watching the planes come in! X
S.
Great yummy food and excellent service - lunch today with a friend after a long walk
C.
Great food but had run out of pancakes. Had eggs benny instead. Yum.
h.
Their food are great. The milkshake are my favorites, and is near a soft sand beach. Good place to have family afternoon tea.
R.
Service was very good. The food good but the base of my friends ginger slice was too hard to be enjoyable. The sea view is fabulous, but the noise inside the cafe is not something that would be appreciated by everybody.
J.
Great service. We had the Montreal Benedict. Eggs were cooked to perfection. Have eaten this dish a few times. Would recommend eating. It's always busy when we go to eat there, so may pay to make reservations. Especially during summer season. Sat's are always busy there as well. No photos were taken of the kai as we were too hungry. Beautiful view of Lyall Bay Beach to top it off. Can't beat Wellington on a good day!
M.
Delicious! It’s pretty busy here on the weekends but I’ve never had to wait too long for a table.
N.
Our local restaurant. Gorgeous views over Lyall Bay. Superb in the summer with a table outside in the evening. Watch the A320s land or the surfers - take your pick. Can be a little noisy inside. Advised to book or at least call before going as can get very busy.
F.
The day was very busy and we had to wait to be seated but the waitress was fantastic at keeping us up to date with the seating arrangements.
Definitely worth the wait as the food and service are incredible.
A.
Went to Spruce Goose with my daughters. We waited for a table and then were shown to a tall table with a good view. It took a while to get our order taken but we weren’t in a rush. Discovered water is self serve and found glasses etc. We shared a bucket of wings and some fries, so good.
Only issue with Spruce Goose is the noise, it has all hard surfaces making it echo and loud.
P.
Cheese scone was so good. Not so fussed about the donut though, something just didn't taste right...
R.
Lovely ambience. Awesome views. Great food.
L.
I love the open decor with lots of windows looking over the beach. The food was excellent, I had tomato and avocado on sour dough bread really yummy but thought it was a bit expensive for what it was. Staff were friendly and good service.
E.
Went here tonight for dinner while staying at the Rydges airport hotel and it was fabulous! The food was delicious, the staff were super friendly and helpful and thr atmosphere was cosy. We both had the special (steak) which was cooked to perfection. We will definitely be back next time we are in town and thoroughly reccomend them for others to try. You won't be disappointed!
S.
Was on holiday and was pleasantly surprised by the fresh food and colourful cafe , with a great veiw of the sea
T.
Loved the meal. Lots to eat.
a.
The food was fresh, properly prepared and a great value for the price. Also you get a spectacular view. I highly recommend this place.
I.
Great service, great food...great views...! Definitely recommend...
k.
Great friendly service. Only had the chips and cherry pie but oh my the cherry pie was so yum.
Highly recommend....probably a little bias here as we got married here five years ago. Still one of Our favourites.
D.
Very busy but worth the wait.. Loved the vegetarian burger
J.
Great location and atmosphere with a decent menu. The cabinet sweets are really good and their kids menu is easy and genuinely kid-friendly. Be prepared to wait if you're a walk-in, they're usually pretty busy until the end of lunch.
W.
Great place to watch the planes whilst enjoying good food - average price wise for Wellington
Kids are catered for with friendly staff
Pictured is a chocolate milkshake for my grandson who LOVED it
A must go if visiting Wellington and the view of the airport and ocean across the road is great
M.
Fantastic feed, and friendly staff. Nice spread on the menu too. Would return for sure.
A.
Got quite a large platter. Enjoyed the view, great place for a good breakfast talk. Coffee was with okay taste.
J.
Great food....out of the ordinary, outstanding décor, breathtaking views.
O.
Good meal and good service. Look after you very well. Super yum esp the on tap beer an cider
A.
Staff were so accommodating!! We had an early dinner reserved with 3 babies and made note about pram access and staff had set the table up perfectly making it really easy for us to get in and out. Dinning with little ones can be really tricky and I was so impressed with how well Spruce Goose catered for us. Thank you!
P.
This is one my favourite place for brunch on a Saturday. Great customer service. The place can get really busy though, but I suppose that's also a sign that it's serving good stuff.
B.
Excellent coffee, very nice eats and friendly staff. Gorgeous setting! Pales of chicken wings and squid are our go-to.
T.
best meal i had in new zealand, steak cooked to perfection, huge servings
M.
Beautiful location. Right next to a beach full of dogs!!! Delicious food.
Y.
Service bit slow took nearly half hour b4 to get served for a coffee after approaching staff
D.
Great location, fine food and coffee. So cool to be able to watch flights arrive and surfers do their thing.
However on the downside it's the second time I've eaten here and been uncomfortable: it's not acceptable to be eating in such a cold environment.
Please out some heating on, or find a solution.
M.
Located on the beach. Very busy but efficient staff
M.
The Spruce Goose has become a regular brunch spot, replacing the Maranui as the go-to for a late breakfast overlooking the Lyall Bay views. A pick from the menu would be the bucket of buffalo wings - delicious and moreish, the true definition of finger-licking good
J.
Vista...Superb. Food is excellent. Service - good. Can be a very busy place but worth a visit
A.
Always nice fresh food, good friendly service,
N.
Beautiful! What a treat, great food, great service and such a wonderful atmosphere. The fact that landing aircraft were close enough to touch was just the cherry on the top...a flashback to pre-covid days!
M.
Lovely service. Excellent food.
P.
A fantastic place with an out look over the Wellington Airport offers fine dining with something to look at. Unfortunately I was seated without a view not nutso good this time but get in early, find a good table and relax for an hour or so with a beer and some chips
S.
A good place, always quite busy but small wait to get a table. Nice views.
Would have been nice if we were offered coffees or something sweet after our meal rather than having to go up/ask for it. It would have also been nice to have been bought water at the start and topped up. Was not offered high chair.
Changing table pretty sub par and dirty.
Food good, nice portion sizes for the burger.
J.
excellent as always. Great staff.
very busy. If you want an intimate conversation not the place for you Fri - Sun.
T.
Beautiful food, service was amazing and ambitious was breath taking if only the sun was out it would have been absolutely wonderful.
D.
We, Mum, Dad, adult daughter had a pre flight dinner here. Super attention throughout from our waiter Daniel. Chicken wing entree was outstanding, as was the salt and pepper squid. Seafood tagliatelle was sumptuous, the broth under was superb. And we shared the oleo cheesecake. We'd definitely recommend Spruce Goose. If all their waiting staff are as good as Daniel, they're on to a winner. Thank you.
G.
The level of service, attention to customer needs and veg / vegan options were all pretty good. The coffee was GREAT which was needed after travelling down. Wellington has high standards for coffee quality. (Background music was too loud when we turned up but they lowered the volume for me)
L.
Great place for a day trip or refresh after a walk around the coast. This place is frequently packed but the efficient staff always seem to fit us in without much of a wait. Decent cafe food covering salads, smoothies and more decent meals like burgers and fish with beer and wine options. Great place to plane spot, watch the surfers or bring your pooch after a walk on the beach. Family friendly with wheelchair access.
P.
Lovely view, good food and relaxing
D.
Great food, quick service even when busy and views of the airport!
B.
Food was good but service was sub par. It took a while for someone to come and take our order and when the waitress came over she was not friendly.
We got our receipt and noticed the order was incorrect so we spoke to the waitress and she said she repeated to to us so it’s our issue (she did not) and said we could not change it so we ended up with a breakfast we didn’t want.
O.
Nice iconic food with a magnificent view
D.
As someone who had recently broken their leg, Spruce Goose is the most easily accessible place I have visited. Lots of room to move, as well as logical and thoughtful layout of interior (accesible bathroom with a door that opens outwards and stays open, very few bumps to manoeuver getting in and out of the building). Free wifi for 2 hours, yum food (especially cheese scones), good coffee and friendly service also added bonuses.
R.
Amazing food and good service. The best cheese scones in town. Great views of Lyall Bay surfing and the nearby Airport activity. Always busy so make a booking for a special occasion. Well worth making the travel effort, you will not be disappointed.
C.
This is the place for a view of the airport and the beach at the same time. Awesome out on the patio in the summer time. Great for viewing aircraft.
R.
Warm place with a nice view of the sea.
Burger on the other hand, was less than warm.....
Chips were nice though.
M.
Always busy - which is a good thing. Not too long to wait for a table. Staff were great! Solid milkshake. Burger was average though, stale bun made it tough to get through. Nice decor and generally good food.
L.
First of all I am giving 3 stars because I’ve been here before and it was fine.
Unfortunately today was a really bad experience. I ordered a Caesar Salad and had hair on top of the egg and on top of a piece of chicken. I called the waitress to send it back
She brought the salad back in less than three minutes (despite a 30 minute wait for the first one) and it looked like they just threw the hairs away and re-fried the chicken and the egg, My salad was floating in oil. I just couldn’t eat it, left it there. The waitress was adamant the salad was remade when I told her it was dreadful. At least I wasn’t charged for it. I will go back but maybe just for coffee and muffins/cakes . Never again for anything off the menu.
K.
I went there last night with a friend.
the service was great and the food amazing. Definitely recommend to anyone. Thanks for a nice night out.
C.
Great place to sit down and eat with an amazing view. However ordered cabinet food today to takeaway and it took 30 minutes to get heated. I understand this place gets busy but that long for a reheat is unsatisfactory. Every other time we've been for a sit down meal has been great and the service has been awesome. Nice place just needs some improvements in areas.
P.
Had a delicious dinner here last night. The service was cheerful and helpful. Our food and drinks arrived without delay. I appreciated the effort that was made in the presentation of my meal, and it tasted as good as it looked, my friend also enjoyed her meal. The sea view gives this place a relaxed vibe.
K.
Food was fresh and nice and the place has great views over the beach and Airport, however we were a little let down by the service. Food took a while to come out and, unlike a lot of casual dining places, our kids meals came out after a few of the Adults mains had turned up. Generally wouldn't be bothered, but as it took so long our kids were getting pretty hangry (and that was with starters). One of meals didn't turn up until about 10 minutes after the first ones came out. Also staff could have taken more drink orders from our group but weren't generally anywhere near our table. Overall it was an ok experience (and perhaps they were short staffed), however for the price of mains I would look elsewhere if I were
to go book a group dinner out that again. If the manager reads this, can I suggest your staff ask diners with young kids if they want their kids food to come early? It makes our dining experience 10x better.

Amazing service, awesome atmosphere, breathtaking views and outstanding food.
Arrived during peak time on a Saturday, where seated in about 10-15 minutes. Ordered and had our meals within 15 minutes. Honestly nothing to complain about!
L.
Very good service, also tasty food. Great place for hanging out with friends and take a look in the beach.
J.
Always come back here with extended family to have a meal before dropping some to the airport only 5 mins drive. The most stunning setting, views of the airport and Cook Straight. Booking made easy online, friendly, accommodating staff who look after our large groups (9-13 people) with ease. And of course amazing food from a widely varied menu which changes frequently and has something for everyone. Good portion sizes well-balanced with veggies. Will be back with even more family next time!!
H.
Not bad at all. Nice place for meal any time of the day. However, it can be too packed, noisy and overwhelming for those who prefer quiet & cosy. Food range is yummy worth trying. Thumbs up for the great service!
L.
Beautiful banana and chocolate muffins, great service and highly recommended 👌
M.
One of my favourites spots in Wellington to sit and enjoy the views
B.
Decent food at decent prices. Great view over Lyall Bay. I have been here for brunch and dinner. It's usually very busy and noisy so don't come here expecting an intimate conversation.
I have had them make the odd minor error e.g. The wrong meal arriving, but it's always been rectified very quickly and to my satisfaction.
S.
Really nice as always! Love the squid, definitely recommended to anyone who enjoys delicious food. And a great view to match!!
a.
Honest enough food in good quantity..not a gourmet experience, but it doesn't purport to be..staff get top marks for attention and attitude, they were great !
A.
Yummy food. Staff let us know there would be a 40 minute wait for food, but the drinks came out super quick and the food was worth the wait.
M.
Wings, fries and cant eat your slaw or steamed vege, please a green salad - unable to make a green salad not on the menu, could not make a green salad in the kitchen! Disappointed.
Wings tasted and looked different, sauces- good. Company and ginger beer - great.
E.
Beautiful views. Excellent service. Great menu with a good variety of choices however some components on the dishes were not well executed. All the bread was over toasted with burnt edges. Hollandaise fake bought in stuff made with oil not butter. Good strong coffee though.
A.
Great place to take friends and family for a leisurely lunch. The ambience and surroundings impeccable food and quality of the food unsurpassed I especially enjoyed the desserts
E.
Favourite brunch spot in town. Even though the wait for a table can take a while, the food always comes out super fast and it’s worth the wait! I’ve always had great experiences here :)
K.
Excellent food. (I would recommend the waffles and the calamari bucket. Superb!) In spite of being very busy, we were quickly seated and the staff were quick and attentive and the prices didn't upset my bank manager. Lovely view of the bay out to sea. Loved it!
A.
There is always at least a hair in my dish everytime I dine here. It's shame because dish isn't that bad. View is great otherwise I wouldn't go there.
J.
First time visiting this cafe for me....and I will be back for the chocolate raspberry brownies....they are so good.
Was very full when I visited...a good sign I guess.
All of the seats inside were full and the ones that were free outside were wet (wasnt raining but may have rained overnight or it may have just been morning dew). There were towels on some of the seats.
We decided to check the upstairs tables and there were a lot that were available...not sure why staff didnt inform people of this as I am sure there would have been people that would have left after seeing no free tables on the ground floor.
Took a while to get our coffees..they bought out our slices but were so busy that they must have lost our orders. Not a problem though and after we spoke to staff, they bought coffees out pretty quickly and the coffee was very good.
Awesome views from this cafe and there is a lot on the menu to choose from. Would be keen to try the sausage rolls, they were huge and looked nice. That chocolate raspberry brownie though...worth a trip out just for that.
O.
Mixed review on this place since the number of times we went there (on a mate's persistence because of the scenic view) quality of food and service esp attitudes of staff had been inconsistent. There were times the food was good then there were times it was just so-so. It's the same with the quality of service, some staff were nicer than others. If you don't mind the luck-of-the-draw where you may go in & the cook makes your food well & the person serving you is having a good day then go for it. Otherwise, if you're only after the "scenic view" there are better places to go to in Welly where the quality of food and service is more consistent.
M.
Nice food and great view :D very busy cafe wiyh lots of people.. probably come back there again :D

3.5
Although there is always a wait at Spruce Goose, food is worth the wait. However, sometimes the waiting staff just tells you what you want to hear like "your hot water should be there soon" when you asked them about it, but they don't follow up on it. This happened after I waited for 15 minutes after ordering and after all the other hot drinks at the table have been served. I had to ask someone else at the counter after another 5 minutes before I finally got it. Food is consistently good but service needs improvement.
A.
Good food and good coffee in a beautiful location. We had cabinet food, and it didn't take very long to receive the food once ordered. Not 5 stars because it was a bit confusing figuring out their system for seating and service (if outside you have to go find a table first and then go and order at the bar and tell them your number, but it was different inside and there was a sign saying to wait to be seated)
t.
Super lovely staff, delicious food, great experience. My sister had a 2 hour delay on her trip so we got to have dinner, it was lovely. I would recommend booking especially on busy nights as it can be hard to get seats on our last trips. Thanks for the lovely dinner!
J.
Excellent food price and service
C.
Great food selection. Loverly atmosphere, and views.
J.
Seriously yummy! I had the lamb and it was delish! Friendly staff and meals were served quickly. Great atmosphere and a neat view of the airport, i enjoyed watching the planes taking off and landing.
K.
Great experience here today. We (a table of three) arrived in the middle of lunch service and with only 25 minutes before needed to check in to a flight ... food arrived within 5 minutes, was delicious and the staff were all super helpful and friendly. Will definitely return !
M.
Excellent food and service. Great views.
R.
Good food, friendly staff and an amazing view. Can't ask for more
E.
Great service!!! Such a busy place with a nice view. Food and drinks were good definitely comming back next time we visit
J.
Great service, excellent eggs benny & coffee. Very busy for a Monday morning, but our food arrived fast. Nice atmosphere and happy attentive staff. Will definitely be back. Recommended.
K.
Great food, great view, good atmosphere. Very busy, but staff were still friendly and efficient.
L.
Delicious toasted muesli for brunch - my friend had tacos - and great coffee.
A.
Great restaurant with views of the beach and airport runway. Good seating too. I've heard others complain about service but I haven't had any issues. Can get very busy on a good day so off-peak times could be a better time to check in.
M.
Great coffee, muffins, service and views
C.
Lovely staff
R.
Great food and service but very noisey. It was quite hard to hear.
Patrons with young uncontroled children dont really help either.
Cripes I sound like an old grump!!!
S.
Staff were great, food was amazing and I love the location.
B.
Food was good but service was sub par. It took a while for someone to come and take our order and when the waitress came over she was not friendly. …
A.
With a view like this, you definitely can't beat Wellington on a good day!
A.
Great service and food.
S.
3 Star⭐⭐⭐ Cafe&Bar Worth Having a check out when you're passing through The main reason to come here would be the Atmosphere View and the Location Location
P.
Good customer service and lovely views.
J.
Yummy food, Great service, reasonable prices.
D.
Beautiful setting, lovely food, great service
D.
Busy, great atmosphere, great food and suprised at how fast food came out as it was packed!
G.
Pretty standard cafe fare but all cooked well and quickly served. Aside from the menu options, there's also a very good cabinet selection available and the daily doughnut special shouldn't be missed. Worth a visit just for that. Coffee was well made. The views of the airport and beach activity are great on a good calm day.
A.
Great food and coffee etc
Great counter food.
Nice friendly and helpful staff.
110% plus
Namaste 😇☘️ Joy
L.
A lovely location. I came on a Monday morning and managed to snag a seat by the window. The view of planes landing to the left and beach to the right was spectacular.
The staff were all delightful to interact with.
I had the muesli with fruit salad and a lovely long black.
I will come back next time I'm in town :-)
R.
Had a great night out at Spruce goose. Even though the weather was horrible still could watch the planes land. Great service had our drinks within 5 minutes of arriving. I tried the steak this time and my husband had the fish. We had the squid to start and it's now a family favourite. We don't get out as often as we would I Ike so it was a real treat to be served by friendly wait staff and have beautifully cooked food.
L.
Pretty good, quick service, nice atmosphere/view.
Had the burger w/ fries. Menu says medium, waitress warned me it's cooked medium so there will be pink. Yup perfect how I like it. Received it 0 pink, probably a little under seasoned for how well it was cooked.
Large ramikin of aioli with the fries big A+ there. Fiancee got the Bircher and fruit smoothie, great plating.
Will be back, might just skip the burger next time, by no means terrible just a tad dry.
t.
Very busy even Monday lunch time. Food acceptable although terakihi did not taste fresh I guess foolish ordering fish on a Monday.. Range of dishes a bit cliche. Good coffee supreme. Very pleasant service great location looking out southern over cook strait at lyall Bay and the airport and sometimes dolphins. Very disappointing range of beers entirely from the DB giant.. Why not local Wellington independent brewers??
J.
I recently chose the Spruce Goose for my birthday dinner after having been here for my birthday afternoon tea here the year before.
I booked a table in the front left corner so that we would have a great view, and it was indeed great - especially with a massive weather front moving through the Cook Strait! Was a great sight to see.
Our drinks and mains orders were taken relatively promptly and food came out in a reasonable amount of time. The platters were very good value for money and easily feed 2 people per platter. We ordered buckets of ribs and chicken wings too - boy were they good! I'll be going back for more chicken for sure.
The service from that point on was poor to terrible. Our empty plates, platters and buckets were never cleared, we had to try and wave waiters down to order more sides and when it came to ordering dessert no one wanted to know about us! It wasn't late, it wasn't busy either. I counted 7 waiters and waitresses standing around talking to each other, one drinking wine, and another having a dance party by himself. I kid you not! This went on for over 20mins until I got so annoyed that I stood up and vigorously waved someone over - which was embarrassing and something I never ever usually do or should ever have to do.
The service left me bitter about the whole experience. I will be back, the chicken is too good not to. But I will be more vocal about the lack of service next time if it happens again.
D.
Food is good. Prices arent too bad. Service is quick and efficient. Staff are always a happy chappy bunch. 👍
D.
This is our fave place to come in the winter time. Great atmosphere. Great food. But they do need to brush up on some things. The hand cut fries...Aren't hand cut. Probably just something that you could get from countdown. The poached eggs could be better. Over all tho awesome staff and excellent service.
G.
Wonderful place to dinnerware had lunch so busy Crowded but worth it
L.
Very delicious hot chocolate and cake. Moreover, the view is also good, in which you can see the beach.
J.
Must visit if your in Wellington. Nice view of the landing strip and wavy seaside. Better come in early as the place is always visited by lot of people because of their sumptuous food.
M.
We were utterly stunned by how good this place is. Fantastic food, staff were attentive without being intrusive. We ate here three times in 2 days. Worth going out of your way to give them a go.
D.
The service was very quick and staff very friendly. There appears to be a bit of uncertainty with getting into Spruce Goose?? Their online message when calling them states that they, take reservations, it's totally first in first served. During our time at Spruce Goose numerous groups were able to enter the premises and sit at tables that had "Reserved" signs on them. Not sure what the call is on this? Not good business to some patrons.
D.
Great atmosphere, good service... Providing you're okay with a wait ( busy times ) awesome food. Definitely reccommend
R.
Excellent staff attentive, happy, and helpful. Great food with good portion sizes. Great views.
S.
Always a good feed and service. Just be wary that it's popular.
P.
Lovely place and great food
M.
Nice staff, ok food, fantastic view of the bay and incoming aircraft. Pretty light on the dessert menu but then you find more dessert items in the display that we weren't told about.
s.
Great food, lovely atmosphere. Can be a bit loud so if you want a super quiet space. This probably isn't the place for you. Awesome views of the loyal bay surfers and planes
R.
Great service always. I find I head here when nothing else comes to mind. Fast service and great food price point is always good too. Cabinet options and menu so there's something for everyone to enjoy. Can't complain about the view either!! Decor is super Vibey and such classic looks super timeless.
D.
Usually very busy (because it's great!), but they've always managed to find us a table even with a 2yo. Tasty food and wonderful coffee at reasonable prices. We find ourselves going back often.
C.
spruce goose has got me scammed. the fluffys there used to be free, and they had 2 marshmellows. now they only have 1 marshmellow. but then they increased the price to 50 cents. may not seem like much, but not worth it. they are barely warm. and are tiny. either make them free or make them better. the only thing keeping me from 2 stars is the muffins. they are really really good
C.
Big and busy, staff are very friendly and there is a wide range of food. Counter food arrives much faster than menu items when busy. I'd give it more stars if my coffees didn't arrive in dirty cups. They might have been through the dishwasher, but the ingrained grime on the handle and base suggests cleanliness isn't as much of a priority here as you might expect.
v.
The waitress asked me to sit outside at a waiting area, which may be right due to rush hour then, but the way she demanded is not right. A local cannot be treated like this. Your awesome cheese cons is now doubtful to be appreciated again.
A.
Lovely cafe to do planespotting from. Very busy but always professional service and giant scones.
M.
Amazing! Steak was great, fish was perfect and chicken burger was outstanding. The staff were great too, really friendly and attentive. Really clean place with great views of the bay and airport.
M.
Loved it. Especially the young man with the mustache, excellent service.
L.
Very impressed with the friendly and quick service. Food and smoothies were delicious. Thank you to the staff for making our day special and one to remember. Will pass on the good word!
A.
observant staff ensured I was sat at a table pretty quick, and table service was great, and I can highly recommend the seafood chowder... damn delicious!! from previous experiences I can also recommend the eggs benedict and the big breakfast
J.
Great service from a friendly crew.
t.
lovely food. fish and chips were great and lovely view
L.
Cozy place, friendly waitress and waiter but we asked for extra hot coffee and sadly it was just warm, only just. Squid and fries was yum. Should be back here😀
A.
Lovely friendly staff, had brunch with family, we all loved our meals, would highly recommend. 😃
A.
Food is great! had a lovely fish and chips. Lovely view to the beach out of the outdoor area.
Awesome place for lunch on a sunny day!
F.
Nice meal and fantastic view
L.
probably the best coffee in the area. Interior is pretty, felt very good while eating my super delicous breakfast! Young and very! friendly employees! Thanks for the nice service. Would highly recommend
L.
Busy, friendly, good atmosphere, good wine, but didnt like my choice of main course - flavour combination was a bit odd and not to my liking. Had combined with skinny fries which were too salty to compliment the meal.
a.
Great spot for casual dinner. A little noisy inside yet overall great experience
R.
Iconic and very popular eatery on the shores of Lyall Bay tucked on a corner across the road from the beach, adjacent to the airport and the NZ Airforce Terminal. Carpark across the road and street parking down to the Warehouse spots. Everything great - my favourite by far being Eggs Benedict and Coffee early on Sat morning whilst reading a complimentary copy of the Dom Post - only complaint is the number of times I have been there to find no parking and a 10-15min wait upon arrival in the entrance owing to lack of availability of seats - on a number of occasions I have had to ask folk already at a table if I can join them to ensure I can eat breakfast in a timely fashion - no problem for someone on their own but imagine would be a hassle for a couple or a group. Overall a bustling, lively, likeable place that has good staff, atmosphere and quality of food - big thumbs up.
W.
Good location. Good food but service not up to standard.
Coffee was cold on delivery and well before the snack. Staff were. It as attentive as they should have been
A.
Good option for food & coffee in Lyall bay. If it’s open, definitely get a table on the second floor - great view over the bay, corner and airplanes landing. (+ downstairs can be noisy)
D.
Purpose built cafe over two levels with plenty of seating inside and out. A very popular spot on weekends especially on a nice day when there is a bit of surf. Sit back with a wine and have lunch while watching the planes taking off and landing, and surfers carving up the waves along The Wall.
The kitchen shuts around 3 pm so get in prior to this if you want anything cooked from the menu.
R.
Nice views and good food..
J.
The plates can come out a long time apart. They don’t let dogs inside, but don’t come outside to take your order, making it hard if you’re there alone with your dog.
P.
Sit and watch surfers in stunning Welly sunshine, cheese scone and bike around moa point😃
E.
Lovely food and friendly service. Just a bit slow probably because it's always so busy. I'd rate it higher but it's very noisy and hard to have a conversation without raising your voice. Best place is outside providing the wind isn't too strong.
P.
Awesome cafe on the beautiful Lyall Bay. Ideal for a coffee while watching the planes land, or a meal while watching the surfers Cath their waves. With Coffee Supreme as their main bean, it's hard to go wrong. Only downside is on a windy day the outdoor seats are effectively ruined but the sand from the beach!
D.
Such a great view. I have been twice and never disapointed. You wait a bit before to be seated if you are going at rush time. However it is a good place: friendly and efficient staff, great view on Lyall Bay ( even if bad weather) and on the planes ( close to Wellington airport). I tryed the veggie breaky, the waffles, cappucino and mocha.
M.
Been here a couple of times, both times it was busy. Food was good and enjoyable, would definitely come back. Building is nice and there is dining out side with good views. Very nice on a good day. Service when busy could be better would be only improvement.
S.
Lovely lamb dish, staff very good. Stormy weather outside but it did not appear to have any.heating on or any where to place wet coats otherwise it would have been 5 stars. Bad weather hits regularly in winter months.
K.
Amazing food, dog friendly. They don't get upset when you accidentally spill egg on the ground outside, since you're devouring it like it's your last meal because of how delicious it is.
B.
Coffee is now generally on point. Amazing ocean views while dining.
R.
Great food. It was really busy but you wouldn't think it. Staff were fast, efficient and really friendly. Higjly recommend!
K.
great atmosphere, close to other shops. great place to stop into and have some lunch while shopping. even maybe somewhere to go after being at the beach. quality is amazing and their service is beautiful. GREAT LOCATION TOO!!!
P.
The venue is fantastic, and the food is quite average. I’ve been there a few times and the food is uninspired. While I write this I’m only in for drinks and snacks and the chips and gravy seemed massively watered down while the cheese and chilli Cobb loaf had no chilli. Thank god it has a licence — because otherwise I wouldn’t come here
A.
I'm a coeliac who eats here regularly and I really can't recommend them highly enough. Every single one of the staff are knowledgeable and incredibly onto it, and chef Sam is some kind of food sorcerer. Coeliacs don't get to feel confident and safe eating out very often, let alone like we're actually being transported to some kind of dinner nirvana.
So go. Eat. Go back. Repeat. You won't regret it.
R.
I love this place. Always busy but despite this the food and coffee always come out quick. Meals are delicious and the location provides some fantastic beach views. Would recommend to anyone.
s.
Excellent fast service ,friendly attentive staff, amazing food. Well worth the drive and the beach front sea views are beautiful in any weather. Love it ...I have become a regular customer.
A.
Place was busy and packed put...but the staff were prompt and the meals arrived quickly...great service and meals..left satisfied
M.
Always great service and great food. Highly recommend especially the arancini balls 😉
J.
A great location and some nice food. It feels a little like you enter somewhere that doesn't necessarily want you there as if the staff are all running on empty but if you need somewhere for a bite near the beach or airport I would recommend it.
M.
Always a good spot by the ocean for a bite or pint.
Food is good, with both counter and kitchen food available. There is a good selection of drinks both non-alcoholic and alcoholic.
They fit a lot of people in and it can be extremely busy on weekends and sunny evenings.
A.
The food was ok, nothing exceptional. Coffee was terrible and had to be returned but to their credit they took it back with minimal fuss and applied the credit to our bill
M.
This is one of my favourite cafés in Lyall Bay. I like to come here & have a cuppa whilst I wait to collect friends & family from the airport. Cheaper than paying for parking, you can see planes land (& takeoff), service is fantastic, food is yummmm, there are great views of the beach and parking is easy. Sometimes they are really busy - I had to wait for just over 15 mins for a table around lunchtime
A.
Amazing food, great staff and speedy service even when busy- as they have plenty of staff! Not to mention the amazing views
R.
Great value Great food!
A.
Food was great albiet a little slow to get seated but that's a testament to the fact that it's good. Atmosphere comfortable & cozy. Staff were super friendly, though they forget about my drink or I'd give it a 5.
M.
Perfect place to have lunch. Love that you have a great view of the ocean while dining.
K.
Not much luck with the dinner menu for me, the last time my burger was cold & the meat pattie was barely cooked 😞 Always great for a cuppa and a treat though, so i might just stick with that in future.
A.
Have been on multiple occasions. Once for a group function in which a large number of us were upstairs. Both in the large group and then with smaller numbers the food has always been spot on. Great views top off the experience.
L.
Nice place for some yummy food. Decor is vibrant with great views of Lyall Bay and the airport runway so you can see planes taking off and landing while having your meal!
N.
I love their aracini. Usually the service is quick and the food is delicious. Nice place to admire surfers and planes taking off.
I advice to go. And then, you will have to go back again and again!!
K.
I have been here three times now and I am so so happy never had a bad meal just had the best egg Benidict I've had in my life ! And last time was here had amazing squid so happy 💖
K.
Meal & coffee was great love this little spot.
R.
Great place for all day dining. Lovely location overlooking lyall Bay and airport.
S.
Lovely views of the sea, planes, and ppl walking their dogs, table service, family and pet friendly, and caters for most dietary requirements. Good excuse to go for a drive along the coast and have some good food and coffee at The Spruce Goose
S.
Nice lunch. Chips were quite big/chunky so no one eat all theirs. Fish was good. Had the squid last time which was cooked to perfection.
O.
Great food, location and amazing view of the airport 10/10 would definitely go again
a.
Beach views & you get to see planes taking off 🛩
Highly recommend the shoestring fries w aioli and add on Parmesan for $2. Get with a glass of coke and your set. Sunday arvo snack at its finest.
The rest of the menu is pretty up there but the above is what I’m always craving 😋
L.
Amazing place to eat. Apart from the gorgeous outlook, the staff were friendly and the service was great. But the food.... DELICIOUS!!!! Can't wait to go back!
C.
Always a great place for food and coffees ☕. Great place if you like watching aeroplanes ✈ and observing action on the water
K.
What an amazing place to eat, the food was fabulous. Super friendly waiter. Would definately go back
J.
The service was ultra friendly and the blueberry muffins were the best we have ever had. Throw in the view of Lyall Bay and it's the best Wellington has to offer.
A.
Great service, suuuper fast, amazing coffee and this from an ex-barista.
Child friendly too.
S.
Went here for Wellington on a plate. Burger was tasty and flavoursome. Coffee is outstanding and very friendly and attentive staff. Highly recommend.
k.
The place to go for great food and to watch the comings and goings of Wellington airport. Each time I have been there the food has been fantastic and the staff great and as I said its a Lovely view of the airport for plane watchers.
M.
Great service as always. Some of the staff know my orders before I say it
D.
Busy, great atmosphere, great food and suprised at how fast food came out as it was packed!
E.
Friendly and fast service. Good food.
D.
Fantastic place. Went for breakfast on a calm morning. Fantastic views of Lyall Bay, and the perfect place to watch planes landing too. Food was great as was the coffee. Staff were super friendly.
D.
A very good experience with excellent quality food service and views
M.
Special location on Welly's south coast, with views out to Cook Strait, friendly efficient service, with a cool , coastal, decor theme, and wonderful food. Try the fried chicken in a pail with chilli sauce , yumtastic!
N.
Lovely place on the waterfront good service good staff good food what more could you ask for
t.
Very busy, great staff
K.
Went in on a super busy day was sat down in 2 mins and expected service was 30 min but our food and drink for 8 people came out in 10 min very fast reliable and kind service
L.
Only one small annoyance. I ordered a scone and after 5 minutes waitress came and said someone else had ordered the last one so i had to choose something else, which i did. Then about ten minutes later i saw a whole new batch in the cabinet. I wish i had of been told they were making more as i would have waited.
M.
Fantastic food, I had the wing bucket and it was truly supurb, lovely location with beautiful see veiws and if you get a good seat you can watch the planes coming in. Enjoyable atmosphere as the place is always full and buzzing. However the service is a little slow and not very friendly.
l.
Very confusing how to oder a coffee..very busy place ...
K.
Coffee - flat white was rated by me as being of a satisfactory standard. I thought the location was very good but due to the exposed posltion of the outside tables, glass or perspex shelder walls facing south would significantly enhance the patrons physical environment.
A.
If you want to see views of the sea, planes flying in so close you can see their engines, big and small planes, close landings, a hive of activity then the Spruce Goose is definately the place to do this. There is parking available next door, the facility is well staffed with very happy, helpful, fast and efficient staff serving us. There is both cabinet food and a menu to choose both big meals and small starters. The cheese cake is to die for. There is a selection of beers and wines available. I'd definately go back to Spruce Goose.
A.
Nice food but service wasn't fantastic took a while to even get drinks. Chairs could be a lot more comfortable though when they are just wooden chairs with no cushions or anything.
D.
Far too noisy. We had to move table. I noticed that someone else left.
Service was great, staff were friendly.
Food and coffee were great.
M.
One of my favourites in welly. Great food, super friendly staff, perfect spot to eye uo the surf with a coffee
A.
Great enjoyable food
Good service and a view of the airport and the sea
D.
I was invited here for the first time and it was a great place to eat. Very busy and we had to wait to be seated but it was worth it. The main was good, and the doughnuts were some of the best I've ever eaten.
S.
Had an evening meal there, my rating is for my roast chicken dish which was tasty, service was pleasant but indifferent, had to get attention to order drinks and didn't get offered more or cleared away, had to ask what fish of the day was, metal chairs were quite uncomfortable, temperature could have been warmer.
P.
Great location for brunch, lunch or dinner. Food is consistent and service attentive. Would be better if the menu was updated more regularly and there was some decent beer - but that's nitpicking.
S.
Great food friendly service and gave options for table wait or share with others to cut the wait time.
N.
Tasty food & good views.
M.
Great experience at the Spruce Goose today for brunch. A warm welcome from the friendly staff, prompt sevice with great food and coffee. A good vibe. Cheers Marie
L.
Great service. Hot food we ordered could of been hotter in terms of temp arrived semi warm. Like my wings n chips hot.
G.
4 1/2 of us went in there for dinner tonight and we have nothing but positive things to say about the place. Great service, great food, prices a bit up there but enjoyed the experience. 5 stars
M.
Excellent food and service.
L.
Great place for brunch with a sea view. Very busy so book or be prepared to wait a little
h.
Awesome atmosphere and watch the surfers, and planes. Delicious food and very reasonably priced! Highly recommend to all!!
R.
Great views and great service. Food was good too
J.
Perfect location on ocean next to airport runway. Watch planes and surfies. Good coffee and great food selection.
BUT can be very busy and noisy. Not something for a quite coffee and read.
J.
Went here for quick lunch before heading to airport..had to wait for table as there was 8 of us, and it was busy (obviously due to popularity and price) Food and coffee great tho!.
Hint - make sure you are not in a rush.
S.
Good place, good selection on both the menu and cabinet food- pretty standard cafe fare
Nice to watch the planes from as well
Can be pretty busy though, especially on a good day (aka days welly cannot be beaten on)

The place has quite a nice vibe going on, overlooking Lyall Bay as it does. Service was ho-hum and not what I would call friendly. It was all a bit like the coffee I had, which managed to somehow be bland and bitter at the same time. The Spruce needs a Goose to get it going

Really good views over the bay. Good choice of outside or inside seating depending on the weather. Very friendly service.

Spruce Goose is great. Great views and great selection of food and drink. Staff are really friendly but I always make this my go to when I’m this side of the city.
B.
Good food, good drinks, but fantastic service! Thanks Ella!!

Nice location with a great view out into the cook straight. Dog friendly and have had some nice food here. A little on the pricey side.
V.
Great food. Great service. Were super busy but still looked after us well

One word, "pork ribs"! Well that not really one word but we loved it! My wife's rib eye was also exceptional and my chili chicken, well not that chilli but its ok. Staff are very friendly though. Too bad the upper deck is not open. I was told the view is good. A bit away though from thr CBD so you need to get there by cab or car if you rent one.

Food 😋 service great and friendly

Good spot for lunch or brunch. Tasty food and good atmosphere. Sit upstairs and you can watch planes landing and taking off at Wellington International airport. Very cool.

Regarding your overpriced breakfast I’ve made a few notes. Yes, bacon – ten on ten, button mushrooms – bingo, black pudding – snap, erm, minor criticism, more distance between the eggs and the beans. I may want to mix them, but I want that to be my decision. Use a sausage as a breakwater. But I’m nit-picking, on the whole a very good effort, seven on ten

Was good food but very long wait for a table and also long wait for food and drinks.

nice atmosphere but I've never had much luck with the food. either the wrong thing shows up or it's cold.... or something else maybe I'm just unlucky?

Cool space, good menu options and awesome beer selection on tap. Dog friendly outside space if you have come from the beach too.

Bit noisy but it was lunchtime! Didn't enjoy my smashed avocado (bit too much plummy stuff) but my son enjoyed his Eggs Benedict. Thank you. Will be back.

Friendly staff. 2 levels. Outdoor seating where you can watch the surfers on a nice day. Note outdoor seating open to a southerly wind.

Excellent service and food even tho they were xhoxka busy

Very busy place but not normally a long wait for tables. The food is very good and the service is pretty good too but can be a little slow when really busy. Third time here and will always return.

Great food and staff. Menu was a little hard to follow being so far away from the bar but the friendly staff were happy to help out when lost.
B.
The food is good, service is fast and the views of the planes taking off are great. It is also very child friendly. A regular place for us when in this part of town
K.
Nice food, great service, we had the pulled pork tacos and they were lovely!

Good service. Friendly staff. Often busy. The platter on the menu is amazing. Great place to watch the airport.

Food is good, prices are kind of ridiculous for the amount of food you get.
