Reviews of The Hudson
T.
A cool place in town with some sensational charcuterie.
The beer selection is sensational.
This is a Red IPA
Highly recommended 👌
A.
Amazing service of such a friendly and professional staff, and the drinks and nibbles that we had were great. Awesome bright environment as well which made for a great atmosphere. Will definitely go again!
D.
I had the chicken burger and it might not have been the best choice. Medium size portions and in general good quality. The staff is friendly the service could be faster. They have a large list of on tap beers and a good selection of wine. The menu is not large so I expected more quality. But may be just my personal expectations where to high. A nice location at a central spot.
M.
Popped in for lunch while passing time before a flight out of Wellington and had one of the best fried chicken burgers I think I've ever had. The Hudson has a nice vibe, there were people sampling whiskey, craft beer on tap (excellent selection) and as mentioned the food was bang on! Highly recommended!
李.
Come for a lunch in Hudson today, try their smoked beef check. Perfect cooked and smoked well, with smooth and creamy mash and basil zucchini.
Their craft beers looks interesting, I will come to try next time.

THE GORGEOUS CAFE PETONE
This must be the most charming Cafe in Petone. The ham “sandwich” I selected was a delicious mix of ham, cheese, mustard and baby spinach warmed to perfection. The roll was more croissant than bread ... mouth watering!
Table water was chilled and infused with citrus slices... coffee was creamy and perfectly made. I couldn’t resist the choc lamington, and glad I didn’t. It was the most delicious lunch and I am already eager to return. Bathroom was modern, spotless and pleasant. My only criticism would be the slightly surly staff... however they were so busy I would be hard pressed to summon a smile too - although everyone did receive a polite “thank-you come again as they can left”.
A.
Great beer selection, helpful, attentive bar staff, lovely looking venue that's seriously let down by it's food menu. If you want cold meat or cheese, you're all good, otherwise you'll find more inspiration on Burger King's specials menu.
K.
American style restaurant with an equal emphasis on food and drinks. Many options on tap for beer/cider and an extensive wine list. Food was great quality, with aged steaks the feature.
J.
Superbly modern pub in a great location! The Hudson looks warm and appealing for the Wellington exterior and getting inside does not disappoint! This free house and stillhouse offers great New Zealand craft beer and an excellent range of international gins. This is all topped off with a secluded, upstairs whisky bar and excellent delicatessen.
The Hudson is a revamped and modern take on a British gastro-pub. The craft beer list is kept so up to date they don’t bother with menus, instead projecting the current tap selection on the wall. For May’s Hopstock festival, the Hudson is hosting Liberty Brewing’s best beers and absolutely spoiling Wellingtonians.
The gin bar has a spectacular range including Malfy’s delicious orange and grapefruit variants. Locals Denizen Gin also have high billing. If you’re unsure spin the $12 gin wheel and you’ll likely be treated to something new and interesting like The Botanist, Beefeater’s Pink Gin or a choice from the Handman range.
Bar snacks are also delicious with curved meats carved and sliced in front of you. This is all topped off with a great wine list and superbly welcoming staff.
The Hudson has a great atmosphere and is filled up when most pubs would be quiet. It’s a great option for Saturday afternoon drinks and cozy chats.
Go here for a warm welcome and enjoy sampling your way through an excellent range of good drink!
I.
The Hudson is a nice cosy bar on Chews Lane close to many places in the city so not too far for those quick after work drinks. The food is pretty good but I haven't gone as far as the aged meats so will have to re-evaluate my score once I get a chance at those. Always great selection of beers on tap. Sawmill particularly good option
H.
Really nice place to eat. Amazing atmosphere, staff were very friendly and constantly checked up on us, and most importantly the food was just fantastic.
N.
Lovely space, and a great selection of beers. Wish I had come here for dinner, the charcuterie looks amazing - maybe next trip. Will be harder to find a time to hit the gin bar.
Z.
Soul hitting craft beers highly recommend
G.
Great selection of craft beers and a great venue staff were awesome will be back

Not a bad spot for drinks/dinner after work. Also quite good during lunch time. Friendly staff in a well-maintained facility really shows off its worth.
K.
Nice place for a coffee, good vibe, coffee ok, and good place to meet and chat because it's spacious enough not to be too noisy, unlike some cafes where you have to raise your voice to be heard. Overall a pleasant cafe.
D.
Great bottomless brunch , good atmosphere, staff were A+
C.
Bottomless Brunch with friends. Service and atmosphere really was top notch, and well handled reasonable beverage service. Food was fine, nothing super special but simple and tasty.
l.
Great wee place, props to the staff who were all really friendly and knowledgeable. Great atmosphere.
L.
Neat, clean, modern environment that has a great ambience with the music at a great level. Friendly staff, not intrusive but helpful when needed. Great food, great cocktails highly recommended in fact I'm going back soon. This is not a criticism of the Co. per say but the acoustics aren't great so if there are loud people you'll be able to hear their conversation from across a large room.
P.
A great bar with an excellent range of craft beer. It is a well stocked with wine and liquor too.
Food is good and is made to order with fresh ingredients.
Decor is a nice airy elegance with modern touches while retaining it's historical core.
Staff are excellent, efficient and particularly good at recommending drinks if you feel adventurous.
T.
Service staff were really nice and accommodating to my requests. The chicken burger was very juicy, and the chips were good as well even if they are not really the crisp outsides and fluffy inside type that i typically enjoy most.
Good coffee as well.
T.
Excellent staff, great food and excellent songs. Came with our 1 year and they couldn't have been more accomodating. Great stop over if you are passing through town.
A.
Nice atmosphere and friendly service. They have a good range of beers. One IPA is only 2% and it tastes great, so it's good if you don't want to get drunk.
C.
Cozy place to chill after a long day of walk around Wellington. Very friendly and accommodating staff.
G.
Only called in for a drink, so can't comment on the food. Wine list is average, but prices aren't cheap. Service was friendly but a little slow (it was fairly busy to be fair - but why only one portable EFTPOS?). Busy meant it was also very noisy; there seemed to be no air conditioning so it was hot and humid. Decor is looking very tired too.
A.
Great bar with a good choice of food and drink.
I've ended up coming back here a few times as it has a really good balance between being a social place to come with friends and a quieter place to come as a couple.
Prices are actually very reasonable considering the location and there's plenty of seating should you be looking for a bigger table.
G.
The big breakfast was great. The cold beans not so much. But overall really good and great place I will return
L.
Great service, great gin bar and excellent selection of beers, comfy upstairs, normal downstairs and chill outside, one of the better bars this side of town. The meats and cheeses look awesome but come at same price as gold.
M.
Great selection of craft beers and impressive handcrafted gin collection. Don’t leave without tasting the superb food. The meat and cheese platter is to die for. The pork crackle the best I’ve tasted.
S.
Evenings are more sophisticated when you can choose from your wants and go out and get it.
We had a night to spend time in the city for a tasty gin and a small bite to eat.
Hudson had a charcuterie which we wanted to be the solid partner with our choice of liquid joy.
With choice comes decision, or, you can spin the Gin wheel and let chance create your Gin experience.
The chefs tasting board was bigger than we expected and we will order it again.
Grab a table and take a seat and get those things you want and enjoy.
K.
Tasty kai, wide selection of beer, wine and spirits. Choice spot for your corporate lunch, young urban professionals and mid-city set.
C.
Little alleyway bar with a lot of character. Craft beers, great wine selection and nice food. Good all round, not in the Hussle a bussle but still an easy place to chill out.
i.
Modern decor, very friendly staff with good knowledge of drinks menu. Happy place to enjoy with friends. Would revisit any time.
s.
Good bar, busy but not too crowded. Located in chews lane. Serves a range of on tab and bottled beers and drinks.
M.
Nice food and bar snacks. Service a little slow considering it was Friday night. Waited a while for cocktails - they were tasty though.
R.
Good range of whisky, particularly Irish, I've never seen Red Spot elsewhere. Eye watering prices though. Nice to get a glencairn.
T.
Excellent customer service and drinks.
E.
Cute brunch spot. Noticed they do a bottomless brunch on Saturdays. We didn’t indulge but regular brunch and coffee was great too
R.
Nice but a few more lunch options would make it even better
H.
A little over priced especially with food options that included a small cold cuts special for $32. Nothing special tbh and hopefully something they'll upgrade in future.
G.
Excellent staff, nice décor. Good selection of drinks, but honestly go there for the whisky!
A.
Interesting range of craft beers on tap, but the gin bar tucked around the corner downstairs is a real gem of a find!
J.
Nice food nice. Drinks. Service was a tad slow and forgetful. But overall good experience in a beautiful bar
M.
The Hudson is a fantastic combination of great beer, wine, spirits (especially whiskey and gin), food and service. The charcuterie is divine and not to be missed.
a.
Good place to hang out. Burgers and platters are usually good.
R.
Good selection of beers, friendly efficient staff.

T.
Great food and service, some nice dining areas upstairs as well as down
S.
Great service and good vibe. Very good food. Ate the Wellington on a Plate menu which was fantastic.
G.
Great place to have a post work beer. Can get pretty full though
M.
Tried their paddle of whiskeys and charcuterie, this was very pleasant and was set in beautiful surrounds.
J.
Good place for a morning coffee with free muffin included!
C.
Nice to stop at but Quad shot espresso came as a long black.
B.
Great spot for a coffee/beer depending on mood and time of day. I always make a point of dropping by whilst in town.
C.
Excellent food. Fast midday service. Gluten free and vegan options.
A.
Great first time experience. Lush decor. Fab sour beers on tap. I'll be back...
