P.The owner is very charismatic. Gr8 for a yarn and has the odd poem to tell. The fish and chips are well portioned and fresh.

The lovely friendly staff cooked up the best fish n chips I have ever had!
As they went the extra mile to cook my fish to perfection.
Also they make great coffee.

F.Sunday drive for fish & chips, haven't been for awhile and they certainly didn't disappoint. Great customer service, and the servings were generous, not greasy and very very tasty far better than anything we have had up here in a very long time. Coffee was very good too apparently.

R.Great fish & chips. It doesn't take them long but we phoned ahead to save time. Nice to take it down to the Port Albert jetty reserve and eat while watching the water etc.
D.This is a very nice store! We were recommended the fish n chips and they did not disappoint. Chips were crunchy and hot and tossed in lemon pepper, which was delicious! Fish was crunchy on outside and moist on the inside. The staff were very friendly and the interior of the shop is very clean and nice. Pricing is very fair as well. I will definitely be returning here!

D.A useful and historic store in Port Albert. Inside the store you will find a notice board with some of the history of the store. It has been owned by the same family for three generations. Port Albert was originally an important shipping Port for Kauri wood and spars for sailing ships. The General Store opened to serve this market and has changed with the changes in the area. These days it serves the local farming community, a small local population and Summer tourists. They make a great cup of coffee!

L.A friend told us about this place, so we took her there. Lovely setting, the staff were very friendly. We ordered our oysters, fish and chips, when they were delivered the lady brought 3 plates and the food was wrapped in paper and placed in the centre of the table; quite a novel way of serving! I think it added to the ambience of the countryside. Loved it

D.Very clean, nicely set out. Limited choice from board for selecting your takeaway food, but that makes it easier to choose. Has a cold cabinet with good varieties to choose from. Cakes and slices, coffees, drinks and a small area with a small selection of supermarket items and pet foods. Area inside and out door to sit and eat. Prices are a little high; ie fish n chips $11, but tasty and a good sized. Over all a nice place to go sit grab a quiet bite and chill.
D.New owner's and locals from our area..really nice place. Worth checking out. Lovely sitting area and Port Albert just down the road if you want to take your fish and chips to the port you can or sit at the tables out side the store..and enjoy the service!

C.alright, I'll start with this. The food was so good that I would say it's the best fish and chip shop I've ever been to in my entire life. the portions are enormous and they are priced very very reasonably. We had 3 meals, 2 fish and chips and a burger and chips with 3 drinks, all this came to about $45 the amount of food is a lot.
The staff were really friendly and to be honest even if they were horrible to us, I would just go back for the food anyway, because it's that good. Place is kid friendly has an indoors and outdoors area, they have dog drinking bowls etc and a small shop inside.
I will be making the 1 hour drive from auckland as many times as I can to visit this place again.

B.Without a doubt the very best fish and chips my wife and I have ever tasted. And very reasonably priced. This is a little way off the main road, but you will not regret taking the 10min drive from Wellsford to experience the warm and welcoming staff and exceptional fish and chips.

M.Port Albert store, staff, situation and food are ALL amazing. We have just returned home after lunching there with our large cycling group. The outside tables accommodate our group perfectly and indoors is lovely in cooler weather. Recommend the "flounder & chips". A great place to stop and meet no matter how big or small a group.

a.The best snapper I have eaten. Port Albert may be off the beaten track but we will detour again.
B.Heading for an evening in Port Albert, my girlfriend and I passed by the general store and came to a halt moments after - deciding that the patio area looked nice and we could go for a coffee. We went in and were (obviously) allured to the $10 fish and chips deal and decided we would split one. We ended up upgrading to the local catch Flounder and we super surprised with how good it was. The batter was fairly thick and crispy and the fish was perfectly cooked.
The cashier was also very friendly and we were visited by the store pet mid-meal; so bonus points for the cute shih tzu.
We went in for a coffee and left after eating some of the best fish and chips we've had in New Zealand! Definitely recommended.

Nothing was a problem to the team despite how active they were inside.
The fish n chips are out of this world, hearty appetites couldn't finish them all. Everything in the cabinet looks lovely and fresh.
Tge store has everything from milk, butter, bread, nappies, dog food, chutneys, spices, rice, lollies, potato chips, a wide variety of non alcoholic beverages, ice blocks and ice creams.
A real treasure for our small community, saving the long drive into Wellsford or Warkworth when you just need a few things to top up.

A.Nice little out of the way cottage store. Port Albert rocks. So does the homely store and it's friendly proprietor. Beautiful home baked cakes slices and delicious food plus a few conveniences in the way of foody foods. A must go and see when in Port Albert.
