Delish😋😋 Primo batter, 👍 fresh fish.💯 Couple King Prawns grilled in garlic butter cooked perfect, (mean chefy 😝) Were so juicy an sweet. Prawns (on skewer are a favorite😋🥰 an have had there previously), so didn't think to ask or read, these were marinated, or covered in a spice (I love spice jus not on my prawns), if I'd known I probably wouldn't of had it. Sorry that was NOT nice🤥, no flavour of prawns at all will question next vist, cause it's off my list at Gibbos 🤐 Counter Service, Awesome polite respectful, clean, keeping things topped up, no standing round(that's all the workers) they had each others back👍👍 That was my Saturday lunch out front of Gibbos, watching the world go by licking my fingers👈👋😇👍

Very average fish and garlic chips. Place was very busy so there was a bit of a walt but only 10-15mins or so. Fish seemed fresh and the batter was ok. Not bad, but not great.

Went to Gibbo’s Fresh Fish takeaway shop. They have their own fishing boat that supplies their two stores (this one and another on the wharf). They mainly sell fish and chips but will also grill the fish instead for just 50 cents more. Their kumara chips are very good and not very greasy. They also have a vast selection of other seafood such as various uncooked fish, oysters, and some smoked fish, fritters, marinated mussels, shrimp, scallops, etc. They also have some non-seafood items in the menu. Good seafood, good prices. You order and pay and are given a number which they call when your order is ready.

Excellent,, best fish n chips i have ever tasted. Hot dogs were yummy. Mussel fritters yummy. A wonderful selctions of seafood to chose from. Everything was very fresh. Awesome atmosphere, clean and tidy place. Thank you gibbos. I highly recommend.

Hit an miss with this place. Always fresh fish but not always same batter. also last two times they were using old oil chips came out tainted brown an could taste it in the chips.

Thoroughly enjoyed our mussels, gurnard and snapper. Massive amount of mussels and all perfectly cooked, all so juicy. We always take the meal down to where the harbour meets the sea to eat. Be sure to have wet wipes to clean up when finished.

Read the reviews but wasn't as great as expected. We're not local so unbiased. The fresh fish in the display looked good. Partner had a pot of oysters which was $20.50. Ordered takeaways - mussell & paua fritters which were full of herbs n spices and were mush (no chunks of paua or mussel) so tasted like a patty of stuffing mix and were very oily - so was the battered snapper and oysters. They needed more draining. Chips were the best part. Paid over $30 for disappointing fish n chips.

Best and freshest fish anywhere in the Bay of Plenty and I would venture to say all of New Zealand. This fish is so fresh it should still be swimming. Never ever frozen. Great serves of chips, wedges and other supplementary additions too. Extremely friendly service and if by chance you have to wait half an hour for your order, the wait will be well and truly worth it.

Excellent fish n chips. The batter was amazing. my family ran fish and chip shops for over a decade and have perfected a batter recipe. This batter can compare with ours. The staff were very young but their service was astounding. Smiling and friendly. Great to see. Recommend this to anyone wanting good feed.

Good friendly staff, clean and tidy premises. A bit overboard with the music. 3 different songs playing at the same time and not quietly either. Burger was delicious as was the oysters. The tarakihi fillet was small and the garlic chips were saturated in garlic butter so much there was a huge puddle at the bottom of the grease proof paper.

Although they didn't have Snapper or Tarakihi on the night, the other fish was just as good. I'd also say the portion of chips could be more but overall very tasty fish and chips and would go back again. Staff very friendly too.

Some days they are delicious and some days just ok, last Sunday's were absolutely amazing however very dissapointed in size of fish & amount chips given. Always be prepared for a long wait sometimes up to an hour. Sunday was only 45 mins.

Dont ever walk in and order at this takeaways always ring in. Phone orders are always served first and you don't have to wait around. Walk-ins take longer waiting time as phone orders get cooked first. We like to go to Gibbos for a real burger. Ingredients are worth the money and we like the real salad too. The kids like the chicken burger and I as mum have the fish burger and dad will have the Hawaiian burger. Very good burgers for the price.

The fish is certainly fresh. However the "grilled" snapper we had ( which was very tasty) was NOT grilled. They wrap it in tin foil and cook it on the stovetop. Basically it is poached. Strange. Hard working, friendly staff.
