1st time down since the renovations and man it looks amazing!! The staff give it a really great vibe too. The beer garden is a perfect place to spend the afternoon with the outdoor games available being a very nice touch. Very family friendly. We just came down for some drinks this time, but can't wait to get stuck into a good meal next time. Will definitely be back soon!!

The Smokin’ Goose is the best restaurant in Whakatane, a welcomed change to the humdrum cafés that have had the same menu for the last 4-5 years. We came out for an easy going lunch and were given a warm welcome. The country-chic styled decor was classic “American bbq/smokehouse”, including a set to play cornhole/bags - it made for great ambiance! The food was delicious! We had the half rack of ribs, Cobb salad, pickle, and Mac n cheese. The ribs aren’t they typical NZ more bone to meat ratio, they were brought in from the states and had heaps of meat on the bone! Tender and juicy! The Cobb salad was beautiful- tons of colors to get your fill of greens for the day! I will say the standout for me was the mac n cheese! It was the best mac I’ve had at a restaurant, EVER! It was flavourful, not the bland stuff that usually turns up! Yum! All and all, our new favourite restaurant in Whakatane and we’ll be coming back to try all the other mains (and to repeat the mac n cheese!)

We just had the most amazing food and service at the Smoking Goose. All the staff were friendly and efficient and made us feel welcome. We loved the Menu and the shared platter and dessert was spectacular. We will definitely be back to try the other tantalizing food on offer. Would highly recommend.

If there was a half would give 3.5.. Kewl vibe, friendly staff and food was all yum!! Ordered the menu lol and loved all the dishes even the vegan ones (go figure), those tempura oyster mushrooms are 😍.. Just took a bit long to come out, maybe being opening day that would be understandable and would have appreciated photos of what was being ordered...📸 (being new we couldnt search the reviews lol).. Would have loved to finish our dessert with hot drinks (coffee or tea) ☕️ Good luck to the new venture and defs be back again!! photo credit to Sharleen Mahutoto :)

Food was excellent. (Especially the pulled pork) We were greeted and seated by the owner, which I thought was a nice touch. Servers were attentive. Really nice outside area for afternoon drinks. alot of work has been put in and the place looks great

Lucky enough to have a sneak preview before the official opening. You are in for a real treat. The owner Christie greeted us upon arrival and is such a down to earth, awesome person and took great care of us. The food was to die for and it was easy to see the team genuinely cares about their customers and were super enthusiastic to make our experience a memorable one! Can’t wait to come back!!! Thank you!!!

Warm and inviting atmosphere with friendly and helpful staff. Everything was reasonably priced and the portion sizes are perfect! The ribs were INCREDIBLE with meat that fell straight off the bone... delicious! 💛 Mac n Cheese was pretty good value for money, and yummy too 😋 Wouldn't recommend the Beer battered Tempura Mushrooms. There was twice as much batter as there was mushroom, and by the end of the meal I felt as if I had deep fryer oil seeping from my pores... if these were crumbed then fried I would buy them every single time. I'm being picky now, but some more absorbent napkins would be good - ribs are a very hands-on meal, and the incredibly thin, tissue paper napkins didn't quite cut it. Other than these very minor qualms, The Smokin Goose was a real hit, and I see huge potential - we will definitely be back!

Service top of list great staff. Food was also fantastic I recommend the steak . Going back for dinner because after 5pm the 12 hour brisket will be done.

Wowww!! First time at the smokin goose today w my partner and we were very very impressed!! Absolutely beautiful!! Friendly service, lovely atmosphere and amazing food!! Looking forward to coming back again 😊

This is hands down the best spot in Whakatane. Great atmosphere, really friendly staff, and the food was fantastic. The meat was melt-in-your-mouth perfection. The outdoor games were a nice touch too! Already looking forwards to our next visit.
