I've been to this place a few different times. Usually their fish is delicious and crispy, but their chips on the soggy side. This time it seems to have switched around.

I like the fish and chips at George's. Its a local institution. Chicken salt can be asked for to be sprinkled on the food. Fish fillet is a decent size and chips are crispy.

George's know how to cook fish to my liking. Under Done. Smells and tastes like the Ocean. No salt if I'm traveling, pile on the sea salt at home or plenty of salt if eating on the run. Professional workers, friendly service

I've had some poor fish and chips in my time and these guys aren't on that list! Fresh tasting fish, potato fritters were perfect and the chips were awesome with the perfect amount of seasoning. Highly recommend 👌 PS. I was the guy in the blue and green xbox jersey lol.

It was a busy night, so understandable for a wait. We tried the diningroom for a sit down meal. Good value fish of the day with chips and a couple of fried eggs and a side salad, cup of tea, or instant coffee, plus buttered bread. The fish was cooked just right, and the chips were not greasy. Just perfect!

Not the same as it used to be but the last owners were a tough act to follow.....still food was nice enough..... EDIT It has been a year since my last review of 3 stars. They have upped their game 😊👌 Chips are back to home made 👌 the fish is fresh, moist and juicy 👌 for the 20 dollar pack they gave 2 extra pieces of the yummiest fish, was supposed to be 4 fish, 2 hotdogs, 3 potato fritters, and what appeared to be 3 scoops. HIGHLY RECOMMEND 👌👍

Unfortunately on a downward trend since new ownership. Long time customers no longer dining in. Last meal was ok, noticeable difference was the offering of a salad which was a nice improvement, however portion sizes of fish and other condiments (bread/butter) have diminished. Still a nice place to get a good feed of fish

Great place eat. Fish is always fresh and you can pick and choose if you wish. Sit down dining is always good, reminds me of days gone by when you would get a plate of sliced bread for chip butties or whatevet you want. Very sixties/seventies feel so drop by for a nice experience.

The very best Fish and Chips I have had in my life. The fish was cooked to perfection and the chips were beautifully crisp. The staff were helpful and very patient as we tried to make up our minds in spite of there being people waiting.

Been the place for fresh fish, fish & chips and old fashioned meals in dining room. Bread & butter served before. Black sauce vinegar etc all on formica tables - yes good old stuff in 2019. ALL food fresh and cooked expertly. Been like that since 1974 even though a few changes in ownership. Classic principle of not changing that which is not broken......

Had three separate people recommend this place to me and it shows. Great service. Chips were amazing- definitely five star worthy. Fish was average, not brilliant but certainly not bad. Could have ideally done with a bit more time cooking to crisp up a bit.

Called in here for fish & chip dinner on way South. Ahh, fresh fish from the window to the fryer just can't be beaten. Quick turnaround - 15minutes. Absolutely lovely. This was my second visit in four years and pleased to see they have maintained their quality and popularity.

Step into your past daycore,right from the 60s. No fussy food. Fish is the best,batter light crunchie. I very much enjoyed my sit down meal. Service was good,not along wait either.

Popped in to the restaurant on an impulse for an early dinner. Promptly served. Ordered a mixed grill. WOW! First got a pot of tea, hot water, milk, sliced bread, and plenty of butter packs. What made that in itself so pleasing was the butter wasn't rock hard. It took me back 50 years when providing bread and butter was standard....Well done. When my mixed grill came it was piled high on a large plate.....yummy. None of the rubbishy big plate with small chunk of food in centre of plate with some coloured sauce drizzled around the big empty space inflicted by other restaurants, again well done. All the food was cooked beautifully. The sirloin steak was generous and seared on the outside and a lovely punky red on the inside...absolutely perfect. No gristle and a nice and tasty amount of fat to titivate the taste buds. The bacon was excellent quality and was not over cured. The fish of course was their usual high quality and the sausage was the biggest I've ever seen and tasty. I had ordered a grilled tomato as an extra which did not disappoint, why are tomatoes so much more delicious when grilled. Needless to say I had no room for the chips, and they were quick to offer a "doggie bag" so I could finish the chips at home. The service was, as usual excellent, and personal, no factory line mentality, more like going to a friend's for dinner. The cost barely scraped over $20 whereas elsewhere would be over $30. The ambience of meal and surroundings took me back to a time without plastic smiles, where tea rooms supplied large wholesome, home cooked meals at a reasonable price. The only downside was the effect the meal had on my waistline, but after a treat like that who could possibly feel guilty!
