Okay I've been here a few times to eat now the service is great and the staff are really friendly. The atmosphere is also top notch the fire is always going and it feels very welcoming. Food is definitely hit or miss their pizzas and burgers are a definate go to last time I had their ribs and they were really underwhelming mostly because of the roast potatoes half weren't boiled enough before they were served and were bland as anything. Disability access is also not the best due to the doors to get to the toilet.

Great service, drinks were cold and the place had a great atmosphere. Unfortunately, the food didn’t met the expectation that came with the price. We ordered that platter that the menu said would feed 4-6 for $48. It didn’t! We were left hungry and went else where to eat lunch. To be fair though - other people’s food that was coming out looked much better portions.

Expensive, but worth it! The food is delicious! The dessert are so nice!

First time in Whangarei & so glad we came here for dinner! The food was great but above all, I couldn’t fault the service! Welcoming, attentive and friendly! Great way to end the day - thank you

Went for mothers day and took my sister abd mum out for late lunch and was very good and we are all happy!. Very chill spot and i must say our server named gwen is amazing very polite and very enthusiast nd has grat energy and made our time there very nice and give that woman a pay rise she deserves it from the experience me and my family had and %100 will be back

The staff were friendly, efficient and very obliging, the food was wonderful and tasty, I've heard about the food in this place and it did not disappoint.

We ate at the restaurant towards the rear of the Inn. The menu is European/English and quite wide-ranging - beef, chicken, pork, venison and so on. Service was fast and friendly. I had the signature dish (beef) and madame had the pork. Both were big meals, and we shouldn't have ordered the side of steamed veg. Dessert was good. With two glasses of wine the meals totalled just over $110.

Fantastic menu, beautiful food, super friendly and accomodating staff, laid back and highly enjoyable dining experience.

We had breakfast here on the 20th March , we had 7 people , the wait team were lovely, the food was great , not one of the 7 people had a complaint about the food , 4 had the big breakfast , delicious , the mince is very good , would recommend if you are looking for a nice place to have your first meal of the day

Had a great lunch with the family. Must try the seafood chowder n fish n chips. The mussels steamed in wine n cream sauce is to die for. Big juicy mussels.

Service was great: friendly and efficient. Unfortunately the kitchen tried to turn my fillet into charcoal. Medium doesn't mean burnt 😭

Our experience was very disappointing but in saying that the waitress was very nice and went out of her way to sort it out for us and my daughter didn't have to pay for her meal and the chef came out to our table with an apology😊

Just went in for some coffee today and they gave us cutest flat whites you can find in Whangarei.. We were treated by the nicest staff and will definitely recommend these guys for anybody. We also heard that Barista guy’s signature coffee art here is the BEAR. Loved it !!!! Thank you!

Reliable pub that will let you bring in kids for a bowl of chips whilst you have a quiet drink after shopping, or movies, or whatever. Not cheap, but clean, tidy and excellent service. We are regulars there.

I caught up with a fellow artist friend and collector, it was great, we were engrossed in conversation , it was a beautiful day, I'm definitely going to take more of my artist mates there , the staffers, had a sense of humour, and approached our table with smiles and thats friendly. Thank you.

Actually 4.5 Stars. Faultless food. Excellent extra mile service by new waitress Brittany and manager Jack (with authentic British accent). Only criticism would be on this occasion that the fire wasn't lit and we had to ask for the background music to be turned down. Other diners also appreciated this, visibly relaxing to talk rather than shouting. Overall a really nice evening.

Chips come out reheated and yuck once we told them new fresh chips come out and wasn't charged. Nice food and service otherwise

Wonderful staff has made stopping here for lunch a very enjoyable experience. Have had 3 lunches recently and was very happy. Waitress gave us a menu for the evening meals to take with us as we mentioned bringing friends back with us for Dinner next time. Lovely environment. Great food!!

A well appointed bar resturant. Right in the middle of town. A Monteiths bar with most apart from the Bohemian Pilsiner on tap. They had Tuatara and Heineken on tap. Big handles no pints apart from Heini. I would and did question why they would have two golden and no Pilsner taps.

Early lunch. We ordered the seafood chowder with sourdough bread which was delicious. We also ordered a bucket of fries which we couldnt finish. Wait staff were great and we sat near the kitchen so we could watch prep.of our meal. 2nd time eating in this place and will be going back again .Hope we see you there.

Just stayed for a glass of wine but other people were eating there and the food looked lovely. Also is directly in the town center so once you have finished eating you can carry on shopping.

A nice place with friendly staff and good environment. Food was decent, the burger Unplugged was more than I could finish though came hungry. The beers were also fine. The only sad surprise was complimentary water that struck me as tap water with strong smell/taste of chlorine. Better no water than this, seriously

Busy early evening on a Saturday but received extremely prompt service. Was only just finishing entree and they arrived with mains. Made it feel a little rushed though. Delicious meals (we had the pork belly and lamb rack) but the meals seem so have shrunk in size since last visit while prices remain the same. More restaurant style rather than a pub meal. Nevertheless will still return !

Traditional pub fare or something a bit more up-market if you want. Wash it down with a dark ale.

Friendly and prompt service, food average. My wife had soup of the day which was delicious. I had fish and chips, chips were okay but fish had far too much batter (more batter than fish).

Hands down the best steak I've had in a long time. Amazing service, really friendly staff and a great atmosphere. It was my first time but I'll definitely be making this a regular spot. I'd recommend the seafood pasta, steak or pizza. Their cocktails were great too.

Such a gem! We came here for lunch and had a delicious pizza and the service was incredible. We had 3 different staff check on us and smiles all around. We ended u going back that night for dessert after a disastrous main meal at the nearby Italian restaurant and once again, the Inn didn’t disappoint with homemade caramel cheesecake and creme brûlée and the same impeccable service. If you want good food and to see how a restaurant should be run, don’t miss this place! It’s been a highlight of our first visit to Whangarei :)

Big thank you to your staff and especially to all your chef's ,which we had chosen to eat the creamy muscles that was so satisfying that I wanted more, but the pork ribs was absolutely delicious it just melted in my mouth. When we are back in Whangarei I know where to come and eat. But we are coming in tomorrow night see you then.

My mum is 91 and loves going her for lunch it's a favourite place of hers. The service is fantastic fast friendly. Food is 10 out of 10. Great atmosphere and very clean.

Hi... We had a work celebration and were served by the lovely Sammy, who we adore 🥰... And also by a new lady Gwen... She was welcoming, cheerful and efficient. We really enjoyed our attentive service, with a lovely smile.. Drinks and food excellent as per normal Trish and staff Caroline Eve

Food was promptly served on Christmas eve. Scallops were a nice size. Staff billed us for the wrong meals and we had to return to discuss it, was quickly resolved

Yummy, very large helpings, lovely young man served us. Chips a wee bit soggy...but then I like very hot very crispy chips...however it was late in the day so oil may not have reached its teperature. Will vertainly go there again but will ask for very hot very crispy chips. Also make sure you make it clear what type if burger you want as we all received the biggest one which was yuum but huge...we were all defeated by it.

Four adults and two young children for lunch, sitting on the sofa and armchairs by the fireplace. Brilliant service, very good food, generous portions, small cutlery for the children. Colouring pictures and pens for the littlies. Great staff. Will definitely go back.

We had a wonderful meal. Enjoyed the Steak Meal, Smokey Ribs, Garlic Pawns, Garlic Bread and Wedges. Well presented and excellent service. Will definitely be visiting Dickens Inn soon 💯👍👍👍

Best Caesar salad I've ever had. Every time we are in town we visit this establishment. Staff are very knowledgeable about cocktails, and the beer and wine selection is great. There is a good selection of food and the central location means it's easy to pop in for a quick lunch while shopping in town.

Nice cocktails. Steep pricing though. $18.50 for a mojito. They have a really nice outdoor space.

I had an omelette. It was the best one I've had in ages. Completely delicious. However, I considered giving Dickens only 3 stars due to the terrible service. Extremely slow. Very innattentive. Example: after a long wait, food was delivered to the other 2 people at my table. Then the waitress walked to the far side of the restaurant. I could see my order was ready and waiting so I got up and brought it to the table myself (checked first with chef behind counter to make sure it really was my order). The restaurant was about medium busy. If they get the service worked out, this will be a very good place. Nice atmosphere, good location.

Great food. the menu online was completely different to the menu in the restaurant but staff are awesome at what they do.

Never disappointed when we dine here. Seafood chowder is perfect on a cold day, chips are always piping hot and crisp, the chicken linguine is probably the best I've had in Northland.

Had a lovely evening catching up with friends. Service was impeccable along with our tasty and very enjoyable meals. Had a cosy relaxing atmosphere, very attentive staff and to ‘die’ for desserts which are all made on site - make sure you try the sticky date pudding.....yum yum!

Great food I had pork ribs. Yummy yummy yum! Far too much only ate half but was able to bring leftovers home. :-)

Great food...congratulations to the chef!!! However, the service was average and if organised better would make a huge difference to the overall experience at Dickens Inn. Overall, loved the meal, but not pleased with the waiters - just too casual.

Clean and good location but food average. Went for a simple eggs bennie eggs were perfect but the sauce tasted from a jar and muffin was soggy others in my group said it was so so but it's just a pub the menu is huge and I'm guessing that's the problem. Staff were very good and tentative but I think it was a bit overpriced for what we had.

Had my 30th birthday brunch upstairs in the conference room, & Dicken's staff were excellent. The amenities were good, & there was lots of room for the kids to run around safely and the food was enjoyed by all - and prompt, even on mothers day! Very pleased with the gluten free dairy free accommodations made by the kitchen staff.

Although it's website said it was open until midnight, tonight it closed at 10:30pm. We had just enough time to drink one beer and eat a very mediocre triple chocolate cookie, while staff was putting chairs up on the tables.

Excellent service and organizing. We had to organize a dinner for 20 plus people and doing it from Invercargill for our trip to Whangarei, Dickens Inn made it so easy for us. Great food and when we wanted the tables moved around our wishes were dealt with. I highly recommend Dickens Inn for service and food. A+

The ambience is nice - especially with the fire but the same can't be said for the food. It's pretty average and have never been blown away by anything I've ordered before. Service is good though.

Really liked the atmosphere here and the bar/restaurant itself, but the food was overpriced for what we got when compared with other places with similar food. Service was a little lacking as well, but really nice staff which made it a better experience.

The dickens inn is run like a well oiled machine. All the staff and steaks are awesome. I personally love ceaser salads and they do a great one. Quiz night is great on a Tuesday. I usually get a Cobb loaf with butter for a starter, perfect for these cold winter nights. Always a roaring fire to keep you warm while you watch a sport game on the tv. Great for functions too, the dickens can handle large groups like a pro.

A very tasty meal out to lunch with my elderly mother...I had a steak and mum had a omelette...the service was fast and reasonably friendly....my reason for three stars was that they refused to take the Goldcard for my mums portion of the meal..that really annoyed me and I told them so too.

Dickens Inn is a pub/restaurant in central Whangarei. The atmosphere is great, with plenty of room to relax & enjoy. With breakfast/brunch small & larger meals served, & if I recall, dinner as well, there is plenty of variety & the price is reasonable.

Fantastic chicken burger!

Food took quite long to come to the table even though it was empty. We had ordered burgers and fries,they didn't mentioned that the burgers come with fries. Everything was underseasoned. The kids burger are same size as adult ones so if you don't care about slaw etc. Get the kids one it's much cheaper. But apart from that nice atmosphere for drinks and nice and cosy warm.
