L.We were in Whitianga’s region just after the public holidays in February and fortunately, Luke’s kitchen was here : with good food, good mood, and decent opening hours. We were with our baby, which means that naps give the pace of our days. Luke’s kitchen was the only place in the area serving great menu whatever the time of the day. It was a real pain to find good cafes and take-away in Whitianga, everything was closed or very average. Luke’s kitchen is worth the 20 min drive, the deco is awesome, Luke and his team are very friendly and the food is awesome, even for vegetarians like us. They know what tasty means. Great beaches are 5 min away. Thanks Luke!
B.Had the pleasure of popping into this cute little restaurant. Absolutely loved the experience. It was super chilled and relaxing. The vibes and atmosphere were just what the soul needed.
The service was on point by all the staff.
We ordered GF menu and they were able to cater. The food was fantastic. Very friendly fresh and full of flavour.

J.Lukes kitchen is well known out in Whitianga so we had to stop in for one those famous wood fired pizzas, hubby had a local beer which he enjoyed and I had a pimms cocktail which was yummy. Tried the karage chicken and side of fries with garlic pizza and the antipasto pizza all hot and delicious, staff was friendly and helpful, dog friendly. Highly recommend
L.We went in for dinner as a friend had recommended that & it was so great we went back the next day for breakfast, and then lunch too. Sweet spot with great ambience, service & food. There also isn’t anywhere else really to eat nearby so i was chuffed this place was so nice because we were super happy to go back there & support such a lovely local business.

V.This place came highly recommended for any visitors to Coromandel. The wait was very long (nearly an hour, plus a queue to enter) but the food was unbelievable. We especially liked the seafood chowder (a special). Waiting isn't so bad either. There is a stunning view of the sunset and great atmosphere, rustic decor and friendly servers that really make it feel authentic. Definitely a must-visit in the area, though perhaps come on a weekday to avoid the wait.

s.It was the day after New Years when we went in, so they were extremely busy. There was a little wait for a table, but the staff and the service were amazing. Once we were seated and ordered, there was hardly any wait on food and the pizza was the beat I've ever had! Great management to be so busy and it still be so seamless.
P.Pizzas are amazing, locally brewed beer is great, setting is unbelievable. OK, so there can be a bit of a wait to get in during peak holiday periods but it's well worth it. What an awesome place!!!
L.Proper pints & fabulous food! We had the Mean Bean pizza (amazing!) a large salad and cauliflower wings (special) which definitely need Luke’s chili sauce. Perfect setting. Great music and lovely staff. We’ll definitely make an effort to come back!
M.Great place to eat with excellent pizzas. Where they excelled was the way they catered for children: from proving pizza dough for the children to shape before they are cooked to providing colouring books - nothing was a problem.
We have been there 3 times and we will be back.
H.Luke’s was very busy when we arrived. However the service was awesome and food was fast. Exceptional mussels! The olives and the smoked potatoes were also excellent. Worth the drive from Whitianga

- yes is a wood fire pizza but unfortunately is not even close to the real Italian wood fire pizza, if you have been to Italy you know what I’m talking about :)
Really nice the washbasin in the bathroom, hollowed out of a stone , it shows a great attention to details
j.Came here for a quick bite on new years day 2022. Gotta admit, I didn't think we'd be seated bexause of the lunch rush but i was impressed.

D.Great pizza and some of the best steamed mussels we've ever had. Also a great local craft beer selection - 1 of the only places beer from "Blue Fridge" brewery can be found.
A.What more could you want? Delicious smoked potatoes and a cute cat curled up by your side. The potatoes with aioli and sauce are amazing, good value at $9 and a nice alternative to chips. The garlic pizza I had was nice but too salty for my taste. Service was fast and friendly. The fancier pizzas on the menu are overpriced for me. My German boyfriend enjoyed the mulled wine.

G.Called in for a quick lunch one day - had a wicked haloumi bagel from the display cabinet! A couple days later came back for dinner for my mums birthday. I snuck off and asked the friendly staff if they would be able to throw together a cupcake and a candle totally expecting nothing as they were super busy but he told me he had it covered with a grin. 20 minutes later out came the chocolate slice with the whole staff singing happy birthday and all the customers joined in. A super positive experience and mum was stoked. Thanks for making her night guys! + extra points for good vegetarian range.
F.We heard great things about the food but decided not to eat here because we saw all of the staff not wearing mask, but a card lanyards that they were exempted. Would have been totally fine for 1 or 2, but it seemed disingenuous.
Our visit was on 28th of December 2021, Coromandel is in Orange and Auckland in Red.
J.The only restaurant we go to when we are back home in Kuaotunu. The pizza’s are cooked to perfection and the entrees and salads are yummy! A must try if you are ever in this little place of paradise.
The cafe right next door has the yummiest treats and great coffee to kick your mornings off the right way😊🙌🏻

When I declined the bread because I have to be GF, without me asking they made me a special GF pizza base garlic bread. 😋 Thank you! Recommend the attached cafe too.

S.Love this place, it’s got a really nice relaxed beach side cafe vibe, lots of outdoor seating to enjoy the sun. The menu is great, everything is very reasonably priced, plenty of vegetarian options. Great coffee (they serve Coromandel’s own Coffee LaLa) and muffins. Loved the fish wrap I had for lunch.

S.We visited on what was probably one of their busiest days of the year. However, amazing service by all the staff. Everyone was smiling despite being super busy. We didn't have to wait long outside and we were propped in a cool spot at the back with views across the quirky bar and restaurant. The staff managed the crowds so well. Our pizzas were amazing and overall a fantastic experience on what was a cold miserable day outside :)

Y.Not bad. We heard wild reviews and drove out specially. It’s a cool place and the staff are friendly. The pizza was a bit too cheesy and oily, with heavy toppings for our liking (including their Margherita which wasn’t made with mozzarella and had no basil). We’d love to see a few classic/ refined pizza options on the menu.

A.This place has tonnes of character. I had an amazing pot of fresh mussels with woodfired garlic bread from the pizza oven that is visible next to the dining area. It was packed and aparently always is, but a great experience none the less.
F.Great food, good service, good atmosphere,and a very good band. Also has to be the best way to entertain a 2 year old I have seen. A pizza dough base kept her entertained for ages. Top mark to the team.
S.An out of the way place but well worth a visit or two. About 12 kilometers from Whitianga and an easy drive to get too. It's just off the main road and opposite the beach. A lovely big Cafe offering a variety of foods, craft beers etc. I had two entrees. One kraage chicken and the winter slaw. Delicious. 7 people on our table and no complaints. What a unique place. The staff were friendly and efficient. We had a great lunch.
B.What a gem. They were run off their feet during our visit, however the wait between order and receiving our coffee and food was very reasonable.
The coffee was one of the best I have had in a while. Large, hot and not burnt.
The food that followed was just as good, generous, hot and tasty.
I will be back next time I visit the Coromamdel Peninsula
M.What a great spot to end your day. We stayed in Matarangi and a friend suggested we tried this pizza place nearby. A nice laid back beach style bar with a huge wood fired oven spitting some of the best pizzas in the region! I’m definitely coming back!

J.Amazing, amazing service and food! You can’t go wrong with a pizza (salmon delight is my favourite) accompanied by a pint of the white IPA on tap. There was a girl waitress, that hosted us yesterday and the day before, she was awesome and remembered we were on holiday and leaving soon, great for building rapport and made us feel good. B.We enjoyed this spot. We did time it nicely as the placed filled pretty quickly after we got there and then a long line built up. This is an indication of how the place is viewed.
Great spot just off the main, parking was easy to get I to.
Place had a good feel and felt like a surfies shed type of deal. This added to its charm. Food and drink was good we spent more than we planned but that's because it was good. Staff were friendly and did the rounds to the tables even though it was busy.
My apologies I paid early so there was confusion as we were waiting on part of of our 3rd order but the team thought we were done. Had a bit of a laugh with I belive was Luke but yip all good.

A.We had an awesome lunch at Lukes Kitchen last weekend during the powercut on Saturday. The pizzas were great and the people serving us went out of their way to make sure we had a good time 😃😃

R.The guy running this place is like the nicest person ever. So friendly. Great place if you've got the kids in tow. They have all the classic foods seafood chowder,pizza ,chips I got the hot hummus great dish. A good beer and wine list. Lovely beach nextdoor what's not to like.
T.Get there early or you may have to wait for a table. It's worth a wait though as the pizzas and mussels are fantastic.

C.We were seated quickly, it was warm although the weather was terrible the indoor heaters were awesome. We expected a long wait for our food considering how busy it was but the food was really quick, tasty and so yum.
My 21 year old son treated me out to dinner and it was just lovely. Thanks guys, I'll be back.
P.Visited Luke’s Kitchen on 3 occasions in late February and on all occasions we’re not disappointed.
Saturday 27th Feb - Lunchtime. First visit was to grab a quick lunch time bite to eat and a couple of drinks. Saturday 27th Feb - Evening. Food was excellent and service was friendly and quick.
We were so impressed with the food, service and atmosphere of the place decided to head back that evening for a more substantial meal and of course a few more drinks. Luke’s Kitchen do not take bookings and we can fully understand why as the queue to get in was probably 10 deep all evening. Having said that, the tables turned over very quickly and after a short wait we were seated and shortly afterwards our drinks order was taken and within minutes we were served our drinks and food orders being taken. All this with a smile and a chat. Once again service and food was exemplary and very good value for money.
Monday 1st March - Evening. We enjoyed our meal so much we decided to head back on the Monday. Again we were not disappointed with the food and service however after checking my account when I got home they had overcharged me $39.00. My fault I guess as I should have checked the bill when paying however it made little difference. After emailing the restaurant and giving my details the $39.00 was refunded into my Bank Account the following day with and an apology for the mistake given.
Sorry this has turned into a novel however everything about this place is first class. If and when you get to the Kuaotunu, Coramandel Luke’s Kitchen is a must.

Staff are friendly and relaxed, casual but busy accommodating and seating customers like it's the easiest thing in the world all the while working hard. Food is outrageously delicious and fresh. s.We were driving through on a rainy day and stopped here and wow what a gem of a place. Warm, inviting, and the food was amazing, pizzas were really tasty and the calamari salad was fantastic. I would reccomend this wonderful restaurant to anyone who asks.
L.This place is always packed, they have friendly staff, an exceptional setting and great food. I've been here before but this is my first rating of this spot.
The food was fantastic. I had a Triple P pizza and we ordered kumara fries and a margarita pizza for the table. We also ordered calamari.
I'm giving this spot a 3 star rating as there were quite a few mistakes in the service tonight. We asked for the calamari starter which the waitress wrote down but then we received a calamari salad instead. We ordered 4 kumara fries but only received one and had two ask two different waitresses what happened to the rest after waiting over 20 minutes. When we paid we somehow had 6 kumara fries on our bill when we only ordered 4.
With all that said, I'd still come back here again and if the service has improved then I'll adjust my review. The food was fantastic as always and everyone was very pleased when they received what they ordered. I'll grab some photos next time and update this review!

A.Nice food, well priced, tasty local beers on tap, and a pleasant location opposite parkland and the beach. Be warned though, the place gets very busy on long weekends, expect to queue up at the entry!

P.Pizza was really great. Service was pretty good. Beer selection was local and interesting and I enjoyed it. We did have a minor issue with our food. But I won't go into details because of how well they dealt with it. Can't give 5 stars because of it. But I would go back. For sure. The prawn and pepperoni pizza was great.
B.As to be expected on a public holiday, very busy, limited seating, but, still great service and even better food. Job well done team. Don't know how you did it, but you did!

s.Set out with a 1960's beach shack feel this place was very cool. Fish n chips and a wood fired pizza with some locally brewed beer to wash it down. This is the sort of place you could just stay all day and just chill.

F.Awesome friendly staff... easy on the eyes! Food is unique and tasty. Locally brewed liquid on tap. Shuttle service on the busiest nights when there's bands playing. The worst thing is trying to get a seat in January but you can always order takeaway and prop up the bar while waiting.

The mussel pot with cheesy garlic pizza bread is always the winner. Minus 1 star for the food being a little slow and no table service but they're not a big deal.

We're going back to Whitianga in April and plan to come back for more!
H.Get yourself there. It's the friendliest,nmost delicious food place you'll find in the Coromandel, I'd suggest the blackjack for olive lovers. They also do a fine seafood chowder. Went for 4 days and spent all 4 nights in there having their Local beers and pizza. Perfect. Can't wait to go again in the summer.

P.Luke's kitchen is one of the best Cafes/Restaurant that I have been too. I have been in Kuaotunu for 6 days on my own and each day I walk to the Cafe for there great coffee/food and juices. All the staff are brilliant. The food is super amazing. Love this place ❤❤

The food service was exceptional with the food coming out in only 10 minutes from the order being taken we had fish and chips and a pizza both were great . I travel the country on a motorcycle looking for great destination cafes and this is a good one. The bases are thin and crisp, lacking elasticity, a chewy bite that comes from perfecting the dough and using quality flour. The base and topings also lack flavour. Still, these pizzas are the best food in the area and are great to tuck into after you're done at the beach.

P.Luke's Kitchen is an absolute gem. We stayed at Matarangi for over a week and after discovering Luke's was there everyday sometimes three times. Coffee is great. The beans are from a local roaster I think and we could live on their fish burgers-YUM!

B.Luke's has always been a popular stopping point during our trips through the Coromandel but this last visit left a touch of a sour taste in our mouth. Whilst the food and the majority of service was impeccable (hence the four stars) a certain staff members brusqueness and dismissiveness was definitely noticed. Hoping she was only having a bad day but it was felt by all members of the table.
We all have bad days, so we hope to be back soon and have the authentic Luke's Kitchen hospitality we know and love.
K.The breakfast selection is limited, and won't feature the normal range of fried meal options.
However, the Spanish Eggs are surprisingly good. The other breakfast options are reasonable, but they don't compare to the eggs.

The hustle & bustle style isn't for everyone I guess but looking around me I saw lots of happy faces, good vibes & the location is obviously more Coro than most :)

L.Lukes trading post cafe and separate restaurant are located right next to each other - the cafe is on the corner. The cafe serves excellent coffee and has a good selection of cabinet food (including quite a few gluten free options). We grabbed a couple of the GF thai peanut salads - prepackaged and ready to put in our chilli bin. These made a filling and super tasty take home dinner.
