Our family is so grateful that we chose Maygrove Lifecare for our mum. She spent the last few years of her life there and was very happy. The rest home is quite small and sunny - ideally situated by a lovely park and has easy access to the estuary. I used to take my mum out each weekend in the wheelchair and we’d meet other residents on mobility scooters or walking. This access to trees and water gave my mother endless joy. But the real advantage of Maygrove has nothing to do with buildings or environs but rather the culture of the place. The staff members are exceptionally kind and caring and they really go out of their way to make family members feel a part of their family. I miss seeing them all and chatting with them. The staff here, unlike many other organisations, is stable and committed to caring - many of them have worked there for many years - and everyone goes out of his/her way to help. I had such respect for Helene, the nurse, that we listened to her advice regarding operations and health care on many occasions and several times changed our approach because of her suggestions. Pauline was equally helpful and caring. We felt she really knew her patients and took time to help families to make the best choices. Stana and her team provided excellent food - really nutritious and tasty - and a warm, happy atmosphere in the dining room. How I miss hearing Rod’s booming laughter as I walked into the dining room - or Lyn or Siqi, or Tania or one of the others - Ruma, John, Katie,, Goedlieve, Lindy or Yvonne or David - coming out to help me get Mum out of the car in time for lunch or help me in some other way. When Mum had a fall, Jo, the manager, visited her in North Shore Hospital. Of course, there were little things that needed sorting occasionally but I always felt comfortable ringing or emailing and I made honest suggestions on feedback forms which always resulted in changes. One example was that I said I felt a particular type of chair was not comfortable for Mum and the next time I went I noticed she was in a chair that was better for her. Breezing in and out of Maygrove Lifecare was so much a part of my life and it really is going to take a while to adjust to not having these warm, wonderful people in my life. I can’t recommend them too highly.
