Enrolled my children. Classes are a highlight of their week. Instructors are exceptional and I am super grateful for their contribution to my kids personal growth, on and off the mat.
E.
Top quality coaching with 'real life' training and lessons. Instructors are great with kids, firm but they have fun too. Saturdays are really popular with a high volume of children attend but there are plenty of instructors on hand so the quality of training and practice is matches the high standard and quality of the week day classes. There is no standing around here, the kids are always moving, learning and practicing - it's the first time I've really seen my daughter focus on anything!
Plenty of options available for all ages, styles and preferences.
I love the weekly payment options available, makes it even more affordable.
I may have to look into joining myself!

Trained here last year and must say the invested quality put in with private trainers and regular training is absolutely outstanding will be coming back again hopefully!
R.
The best martial arts gym in New Zealand.

I looked around for a while before joining and after talking to people in the know figured out quick that this is where you want want to be. Im now 12 weeks in with private classes and am loving it. Instructor is amazing. If you are considering a gym consider this one.

Been training for over 3 years, it’s profesional it’s like a gym intro when you first turn up, but I’d expect that, from a professional run academy, sure some of the gym weights are old, but they are still heavy.
I go there for top notch bjj, Geoff , Mark Jeremy and Tim all have insites on how to make your game better and that’s what I want I love the different classes lunch time to after work and Saturday’s .
Oh for price it’s about the same as les mills but at the academy smaller classes , and if I had to give up one, it would be les mills .
You get a couple of free classes, the instructors don’t bully students like other clubs do, the fact so many children train there says a lot

although i have been with this club a short time i couldn't ask for more .I find the various teachers offer so many different insights to the art i am learning very fast and all the trainers are willing to show you anything and help you with aspects of your game where you might struggle. also the office staff and owner/chief are all really approachable would and have recommend/ed this place to all my friends.

We have enrolled our two girls (5, 8) at the beginning of February 2016. They both love it. The school is wonderful and teaches them a way of living rather than just a "sport" or an activity. it enhances self discipline, self control and mostly respect for them selves and the other. Fantastic! thank you

Great place. Very friendly and professional, always someone who is willing to help you out and share tips. Since starting my life has changed a lot, more confidence, and feeling all around better than i was before coming here. Have no idea who this Jessica or this so called "Ron" is, am sure she has the academy mixed up with another place or perhaps has another agenda. I have never witnessed anything of the sort take place at the academy.

High class instructors and facilities, great for fitness and learning. Excellent environment and people to train with. There are no people by the name of "Ron" who even train at the Academy, let alone instruct there.

I have been a member or affiliate of the Academy of Combat for over 24 years and have trained in a number of different disciplines taught there including Muay Thai and BJJ. I have also trained in London and Sydney, Australia. I can say with confidence that the head instructor, plus the core group of trainers and the martial arts programmes are amongst the best and most progressive that I have been exposed to anywhere.
This is the real deal for anyone who wants to learn no-nonsense martial arts in a safe and well structured environment from those who are at the top of their game - as evidenced by the continual stream of regional, national and world champion competitors.
I wish they had the kids classes when I was a lad - they look like a fantastic way to build self confidence and esteem.

Academy of combat is a large dojo with classes training; Muay Thai, Machado Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, MMA, Freestyle martial arts (including weapon fighting of various martial arts), and also a women's Muay Thai class. The dojo has various exercise equipment including; punching bags, kick bags, boxing gloves, fingerless gloves, kick boxing pads, a boxing ring, a medium sized octagon, cardio machines (rowing, cycling, running), and muscle building equipment (free weights, benches, machines). Alongside Dr Geoff Aitken's 34+ years of coaching experience, this dojo is filled with friendly staff and friendly athletes training from a social level to a competitive level. Whoever may be looking for a place to train or learn new martial art, can be certain that they will be in a safe and encouraging environment at Academy of Combat.

Good to bump into Geoff Aitken today over lunch.
Geoff and the AOC have been a pioneering force in Christchurch for combat sports and self defense disciplines.
Opening the doors for a wide range of people to get in on the action.
In my view the stronger the scene is in Christchurch and NZ as a whole, for gyms, combat sport and the like. Then the more posperous it is for all.
It benefits the individual and the community by building a strong, fit, engergic, and confident populace.
Lets get thriving! Hit your local training centre or travel the distance to one which suits you. Build great health and fitness while building the foundations for a strong and productive life.
The more involved then the better it is for all!
Don't waste your life get moving to live it!
Geoff and the AOC have the knowledge, skill set, and foundation to assist one with their martial arts journey. Pay them a visit first hand and see if it's right for you.

If you're serious about wanting to do kickboxing, bjj or mma then this is definitely the place to go, you'd be hard pressed to find a gym that has the amount of equipment and machines as this one further more the coaches are what really make it what it is academy coaches are great and extremely well trained whether you want to compete get fit or learn self defense then academy of combat is for you they have helped me lose alot of weight and completely re invent myself since joining a year ago I have had three fights and I am loving it!
