i have found this club a really excellent and positive training environment. Master Livingstone is a very knowledgeable, approachable and inspiring teacher and he is supported by many black belts, all who are really willing to share their passion of the martial art with beginners like myself right up through the grades. As a woman in her 40’s, a martial arts environment can be daunting, but I was delighted to see a number of the Black Belt’s are women. Also of note, many of the black belts have been at Taranaki Taekwondo for a number of years; people will not devote their free time twice a week, every week if they don’t respect and admire both their teacher and the quality of training. I am genuinely impressed by both, and whilst this 40-something year old isn’t necessarily in the best “nick” fitness-wise, I’ve never found it to be an issue as students work within their own fitness and skill parameters. I really enjoy it and encourage anyone thinking they might like to give it a go, to please do so. It really is a martial art that can be enjoyed regardless of age (there is a really diverse age range there). If you pop along to see for yourself, you will be very welcomed by many friendly faces, as I was.

Awesome group of people, very friendly and welcoming to newcomers. Myself and my two boys absolutely love it! Helps with fitness, flexibility and confidence. Not to mention a great form of self defence. Would recommend to young and old and all levels of fitness. It’s also satisfying and great fun breaking boards 😉

…great for youngsters like our 5 year old and the fit, flexible people I thought.
Participating was never on my radar: too old, too out of shape and too busy.
Sitting, watching and listening for almost 2 years I was struck how this group valued each individual and made it their mission to build confidence and self worth that extended beyond the martial art and into everyday life…for adults as well as children. So with that in mind…I thought I’d give it a go.
That’s almost 5 years ago now and with the addition of another daughter we’re still here.
To anyone whose curious why not come and have a go? At least you can say you tried it…
