Thanks very much for your time and approach to on the water learning. Your approach to coaching and practical learning really solidified the theory. The hours spent in books pales in comparison to being run through the practical steps to apply the knowledge. It's stuck now and I feel far better equipped as a result. Thanks team!

Phil is an excellent, knowledgeable, and highly-experienced skipper; perhaps most importantly he is a really great teacher and patient to boot. Just completed the training for a Powered Vessel Yachtmaster Offshore with him. A well-paced, interesting, and strongly-delivered syallbus with fun practical learning. Recommend.

I completed a theory refresher and a four day own boat tuition course with Phil and the team at the Auckland Sailing School. I had completed a Yacht Master Shorebased course two years previously, pre-Covid, elsewhere. Phil quickly refreshed and plugged the holes in my knowledge. He has put together a great repository of material accessible via his virtual classroom. The material is backed up with exercises and readings. Questions were answered quickly and the at home tuition was very effective. The own boat tuition was preceded with a thorough briefing and list of exercises/objectives. Each exercise starts with a "why" - why are we learning this. So they are practical and useful. Every day commences with a briefing and importantly, finishes with a debrief. The days are long, 12 hours into the night. Phil has a well honed instructional technique and the days went quickly. I learnt a lot! I have no hesitation in recommending the Auckland Sailing School as a professional environment to learn, and develop in. Thanks!

I recently contacted the Auckland Sailing School to inquire about ICC Coastal Water Yacht Certification. Phil and Daniel were a great help, from advising on RYA assessment requirements, refresher coaching and the theory / practical examination on my yacht. Thank you both for a super professional experience despite Covid difficulties. I would definitely consider learning new skills with the Auckland Sailing School in future.

Phil put me through my PBL2 certification. He was a pleasure to work with. Got back to me straight away which made the booking process easy. He is extremely knowledgeable and a great teacher. I felt comfortable and confident completing my certification. 5 stars.

Auckland Sailing School were easy to communicate with and very accomodating. We had an awesome time with a very cool instructor who put us at ease and gave very clear directions. He even showed us some nifty new tricks. Would recommend!

We completed our 'Advanced sea survival coarse' with Phil. He was super informative, chilled and full of knowledge. We came away from the course feeling a lot more prepared for our ocean crossing, and highly recommend this coarse to anyone wanting to upskill.

A group of us went out with Phil Bishop from the Auckland Sailing School to do our inland and coastal ICC assessment recently. Even although we had all been mucking about in boats most of our lives, we still learnt a great deal more about boat handling. Phil is a great instructor and made the day an enjoyable experience. He offers a high quality Professional product and I can't recommend him and his school enough.

Phil and Hamish helped us to complete 2-day training session for boat handling. They are very patient and helpful. The training sessions are extremely productive to help newbie to get on board. We passed RYA level 2 by the end of sessions. Thanks to Auckland Sailing School. We have good time together. Highly recommended.

Phil went out of his way to make room for us during a very busy period and we were all really impressed with his extremely thorough knowledge and the way that he passed this on to us. He was great with my 2 teenagers and the course was a great blend of practical tasks and theory which suited us perfectly as we were basically novices. Thoroughly recommend Phil to anyone who needs hands on instruction and a common sense approach.

Had a great day out on the water covering practical skills for boat handling and reinforcing a lot of theory. Hamish was a great instructor, very professional and obviously has a lot of experience teaching. Very useful to get some inside knowledge on the harbour and the various hazards out there.

Having Phil show us tips and tricks for handling the boat in all wind conditions has given us both confidence to enjoy the experience of taking the boat in and out of the marina, and alleviated a lot of potential stress. We are very grateful.

We purchased a 60ft Riviera having absolutely no experience in operating launches, only trailer boats. Phil took us right through the theroy from on boarding the boat, engine checks, electrical checks, GENSET checks, disconnecting shorepower, GENSET operation and helped us build our own personalized checklists for the boat.We also did a refresher on boat rules of the road and theory. We spent 3 days with Phil and 1 night, covered docking, fueling up, anchoring the works. After 3 days we are confident in taking our boat out by ourselves. I thoroughly recommend Phil, he is relaxed yet professional and makes learning an absolute breeze!

Under time pressure to attain my ICC certification , Phil & Hamish went well out of their way to help me achieve this. Hamish was thorough and patient in his assessment . I traveled from Hawkes Bay & Hamish took time out of his sunday to see me. So very much appreciated.

Phil taught my son and I the level 2 power boating course over 2 full days. We were both impressed with the humour, skills, professionalism and patience Phil demonstrated in the course. We would thoroughly recommend Phil and the Auckland Sailing School to anyone wanting to increase their boating skills. I used Phil to get the RYA ICC. Phil is a very good teacher, extremely knowledgeable, and the whole process was very easy and clear what I had to do. I would whole heartedly recommend you use Phil to improve your boating skills, or increase your certification levels. I really enjoyed the day, and got a lot out of it.

I thoroughly recommend Phil Bishop as a sailing coach. We did several short sessions together practising boat handling skills before undertaking a four day excursion around Waiheke and Rangitoto Islands (more adventurous plans to sail up to Kawau or across to the Coromandel being ruled out by the weather). Phil is a very competent sailor, well versed in both practical skills and technical knowledge, and importantly is a very good teacher, not least because of his patience and good humour (tried to the limit at times by this landlubber's mistakes!)

Phil ran me through the RYA Powerboat Level 2 certification. It was an enjoyable, informative and confidence building two day course and I would happily recommend him as a patient, professional and knowledgable trainer.

I had an fun and fantastic day being tutored by Phil Bishop in the skills required to control a RIB in a variety of tight situations for my PBL2 cert. Phil was professional and practical in his instructor role with lesson plan well packaged to myself, a rewarding experience.

Partners of our boat ownership opted to do a safety and boat handling course with Auckland Sailing School on board our own yacht. The day was action packed and we learnt so much. There was a great balance between going over theory and procedures, being able to ask questions and then to practice various maneuvers we wished to practice, such as docking and MOB. Not only did we learn a significant amount, but our tutor Hamish was cool, calm and collected. At no point did he intervene, but was patient and a clear communicator so we knew exactly what was required. I would recommend these guys in a heart beat!

We used Phil on a friend’s boat to sit our RYA ICC. Phil was flexible with arrangements and easy to deal with on the boat. He was very knowledgeable and a professional teacher. Everyone on board learnt something new including the boats owners. Would recommend to anyone wanting to just upskill as well as those needing certification.

Phil has helped provide me with training and examination services for Yachtmaster Offshore and Ocean. He went out of his way to help arrange an exam on a public holiday and customised training to help me hit deadlines when they did not fit the published programme. I did a week's training with Phil for my RYA Ocean Yachtmaster exam. I couldn't have made it through without him. His attention to detail, remote support for the theory learning, and knowledge of the process was incredibly helpful. I can't recommend him enough.

Phil's on the water instruction made practical sense of the theory I'd studied, and his patient explanations of what was expected and how to achieve them made the exam straight forward. The knowledge of what's what in safety and navigation, what to look for and how to do things properly (to the RYA standards) means the everyday boating that I've doing for years is much more enjoyable now.

Phil and Hamish were both professional and a pleasure to learn and understand the handling of oir launch , being first-time launch owner's, their patience and calmness gave us the confidence to complete Powerboat level 2 handling course, with lots of helpful hints that with practice, I hope to be a good skipper Highly Recommend for all levels of Boat Handling skills 11/10

Like many kiwi sailors I have plenty of experience but lacked any formal qualifications and needed to sit the RYA ICC, as I was chartering a yacht in Greece for a holiday. I made contact with Phil Bishop who was quickly able to explain exactly what I needed to do and sent through all the relevant information, which provided much needed clarity and brought the challenge down to a manageable size. He was also able to arrange a yacht for me to use to sit the exam. Thanks Phil for all your help, you made the process go very smoothly. As I suspected, I also learnt quite a bit in the process as I had some gaps in my knowledge, so I feel even more comfortable on the water now than before. Phil has a great style and was eager to pass on even more knowledge and training than was required which was great. Thanks again PJ

They say "Train hard, fight easy". The fight wasn't easy by any means but the training, which was hard, prepared me to get through the RYA Yachtmaster Offshore successfully. Great people, high level of expertise, totally committed. I highly recommend them
