Best local surf school in Raglan. I had lots of fun learning surf for 3days. Great value for money and efficient lessons for beginners. Very easy and clear communications, I felt comfortable and safe in the water as well. The team was very friendly and supportive! Massive thanks to Wes & Bing for helped and encouraged me a lot. It was amazing experience! Highly recommend Green Wave Raglan! Will be back soon.

The Green Wave team were all fantastic. Whether teaching a 41 year old that’s never surfed (me) or an 11 year old that’s at the beginning of her surfing journey (my daughter) they adopt a friendly, informative and encouraging approach. And it works - we both caught a load of waves, met some great people and had loads of fun in the process! I would definitely recommend Green Wave if you’re interested in surf lessons in Raglan, which is surely a “must do”!

The team are just so amazing. The best thing is they make you feel so welcomed and part of the group your in, even though you have just met everyone 5 minutes ago haha. Stood up first pop and the whole crew were just awesome. Especially getting to use the photos taken on there GO PRO provided later on! My partner and I made friends with another couple from Auckland and ended up having a fair few drinks later on with them. How gooooood!

My stay with Green Wave Raglan ended up being some of my favorite days in New Zealand—which is really saying something! The accommodations were lovely and everyone went out of their way to make me feel at home. I appreciated the chill vibe of the house after many hours of sun and surf. Totally unexpected highlights of my stay were the absolutely delicious family dinners the team cooked with local fish and meats—they do it right at Green Wave! As far as the surf lessons, the crew at Green Wave is top notch. They research the best time of day to get out on the water and also scout the best spots along the beach to ensure you're set up for success. I participated in the group surf lesson with about a dozen others. We broke out initially by skill level and the crew took the time to understand what we wanted to get out of the day. While in the water, I got just the right amount of 1v1 instruction tailored to my goals (as well as some of the best tips I never knew I needed). Everyone else in the group was so encouraging as well—it was an all-around great environment to learn and have fun. It wasn't my first time up on a surf board, but it was certainly my best time. The value of the surf and stay is more than worth the cost. It's perfect for a solo traveller, couples or groups of friends. I feel lucky for having experienced this tiny treasure and would highly recommend a stay here not only if you're in the area, but also as a memorable vacation destination.

My son and I did 4 group lessons with Green Wave Raglan. The guys were great. They were quick with communication to arrange the lessons, helpful at every stage, friendly, relaxed, fun and obviously love what they do. Each lesson included a warm up with stretching, a bit of theory, surfing (obviously) and photos to look back on. We both thought it was a lot of fun and would definitely go back to Green Wave next time we are in Raglan.

It was my first time trying out surfing and it was awesome!! I couldn't swim well in the ocean and was afraid to try it out initially. But with the help and guidances from the surf instructors (I surfed with Bing and Zennor) in Greenwave Raglan, I am confident to head out to the ocean now and even caught waves on my own during the very first lesson! It makes me really happy and have unforgetable surf memory here with them! Not just 'stand-up guranteed' in the surf lesson, our safety are always well taken care of at all time. PLUS.. photos and videos are included in the surf lesson too! The stay with them is a Surf house, beautiful and cosy, the bathroom definitely deserved the title of best shower in the world according to what I have read in one of the reviews! :D Another awesome thing here is the food cooked by Bing, it's amazing! Apart from surfing, dinner here is the only thing I am looking forward to everyday. I want to stay here forever!!!!

If you're keen to learn surfing and/or looking for a place to stay in Raglan, you are checking out reviews at the right place now! :D Because I was here for 10 nights straight and this was not my initial plan, I actually planned to stay at other accommodation in between instead of just 1 place.. BUT no regrets for my choice! SURF: The people here and surf instructors who I met (Bing and Zennor, sadly Ryan is on holiday) are really friendly and professional in teaching and sharing techniques with us. You can see and feel it for yourself that they are constantly helping you to progress in surfing and having fun in the water even wiped outs were fun to me when I surfed with them! I wasn't confident to catch my own waves before I came to Raglan even though I have tried surfing in Bali, but they are really good instructors who motivate and helping people in doing it well! I am really glad that I can do it now and hired the board to surf almost everyday there. STAY: It is a Surf house here, cosy, clean and nice just like home, plus I still get to meet different travellers throughout the 10 nights stay even though it's a low season now. You will still be meeting many people just how you would in a hostel but much better here as it is not too noisy like how hostel can be, yet we still have parties and drinks in the house on the weekends as well as yummy dinner every night from Bing! *Greenwave Raglan's specialty kitchen* that keeps you excited and looking forward to what's for dinner everyday! It is definitely the best choice for anyone visiting Raglan! Really thanks to the recommendation I got from a backpacker I have met before heading to Raglan, it is really worth it here, as all of us are like a family :) No doubt, this will be my number one choice when I am back in Raglan soon again after travelling the South island, it is simply the best!

Good coach, good beach, good fun of course. Other than this, I wanna comment that is the accommodation of the surf camp. The house is big, cozy and clean. You can share your thoughts with the people who love surf. Having dinner together. Share you time with your classmate like you back to school. If you go Raglan, give it a try? Thanks to the Green Wave Raglan surf team. Had my first surfing experience, took the 3 hour class and was able to stand up on the board a couple of times. All the instructors were nice, professional and helpful ,so if you looking for a surfing company to learn to surf for the first time be sure to check out Green Wave! Hope to return for more!

I booked the three day surf lesson package and it was awesome but went too fast! The beach is perfect, nice and safe with consistent conditions, certainly for a beginner. I was taught by Bing for days 1 & 3 and Wes on day 2. Both instructors had their own style so I learned lots about not just the surfing but also safety, stretching....meteorology (thanks Wes!) The teaching was very intuitive, relaxed and very much at my pace and therefore slightly different each day. I now feel confident enough to go out on my own for a while and improve the very basics before booking further lessons to help me progress.

I was struggling to stand in the first half of the lesson, so they hooked me up with a different board and gave me extra help. Next minute, I was standing and catching waves on my own! Bing and the team were great communicators before our lesson, and Bing was a stellar instructor to have for both my wife and my first time surfing! Great instruction before going in the water in a very interactive and insightful way, emphasizing the fun as well as the technical aspects. We were both able to stand up and catch a wave within our first try or two with the coaching and guidance given along the way. We felt there was a great balance between group instruction and 1-on-1 coaching within the lesson, and truly couldn’t believe the amount of improvement within the one day. Experiencing our first day of surfing with Green Wave really left a positive first experience - so much so that we are both going to take another lesson with them again! Great experience for a reasonable cost and to a locally run group!

Highly recommend. My partner and I had both tried surfing with friends once and had little success without formal training. We decided to get lessons from Green Wave. We each scheduled a 2-day progressive lesson. Starting with the initial booking and moving through each 3 hour lesson the entire process was relaxed and enjoyable. The instructors were patient, knowledgeable, and most importantly stoked to be helping new surfers. The included equipment (boards and wetsuits) was high quality and the right equipment for our skill level and the time of year (winter). First day we were standing and riding whitewater waves. Second day we continued practicing and honed some of the skills we learned on the first day. Both days were amazing and heaps of fun.

Awesome Surf lessons!! Amazing experience with the Green Wave!! I got a 3-day surf lesson as a birthday gift and it was super fun!! The duration of the lessons was perfect, with enough time for the theory and the practice, and included a photo session! The guys at the Green Wave are experts, answering all our questions about the surf and the sea. Wetsuit and board are provided, with options of board sizes. Each lesson day was progressive and I feel now more confident to keep surfing!!

These guys were fantastic. I had a gift voucher from last Christmas, but the print-out didnt have a company name on it. I called to ask if it was Green Wave, and they said they don't do online vouchers like that, but they offered to take the voucher anyways if I brought a friend along to do a surf lesson. Totally unexpected and needless to say, we took them up on the offer. Great lesson, and lots of help out in the water! Highly recommend for first timers :) Thanks a lot for your generosity and help! I came to New Zealand for the treks, but my favourite memory from my two months in this wonderful country will be the time I spent with Green Wave. The instructors are laid back and friendly, yet committed to helping you learn proper surfing techniques. I’d never surfed prior to Green Wave but stood a few times after one group lesson. By the end of my third day I was catching waves completely on my own. Even better than the surfing was the social vibe and friendships I built at the house. You’ll make quick friends if you give the slightest effort at being social. I cannot recommend this place highly enough and will visit again the next time I’m in NZ.

Green Wave surf school and stay is amazing! In the beginning of my stay I was really nervous if I was able to stand up, but within my first surf lesson I caught waves on my own. Considering that I have never been near a surfboard I think that this is an awesome result. I really liked that Green Wave only teaches a small group per lesson, which means the teachers can be very responsive to any question or help needed. After each day of surfing I had a huge smile on my face. These guys really know how to convey fun! The stay itself is very clean. Personally, I really enjoyed the home-cooked dinners and the evenings spent among all the people who stayed there. It felt more than a family than just a place to sleep. All in all, I can really recommend this place! I fell in love with it. Just come and see yourself :)!

I can't recommend Green Wave enough! I booked some surf lessons as a surprise for my partner's birthday and we had one of our most memorable experiences in NZ so far. We were both a little apprehensive as it was our first time, but Zennor made us feel so safe and relaxed in the water that we were able to just chill out and enjoy ourselves. He was so supportive and encouraging and by the end of it we both felt like bosses as we were able to stand up (well, sometimes!!). Surfing with Green Wave has been the best part of my New Zealand trip! I did it twice and wish that I could have stayed longer than three days. The first time me and my two friends came to stay at their beautiful place for two nights which I highly recommend! The beds are awesome and food is included. We surfed with them for 7 days in total. I have been surfing before but with the help of Bing, Ryan and Zen I stood up way more often than I have before! They also seem to have heaps of fun helping you. In fact I had such a great time in Raglan that we returned for two nights. The house is so comfortable that I only wanted to leave for the surf lessons. Green Wave Raglan is more than just a surf school. At the house you feel like you are part of a family. As a beginner you can stand up within your first 3 tries. I recommend taking part in one of the yoga lessons(included in a four day surf and stay). Don't hesitate because of the season, even in winter the water is perfect to surf. I had two lessons with Green Wave, followed by surf board rentals. Lessons were not what I expected. I thought I’d learn some basics, like how to stand up (btw, they keep their promise: every student I got to know during my stay was able to stand up on the board). But it was way more than that! I fell in love with the ocean. With every day my excitement for the next day just kept increasing. Bing always said “Every day is a good day in Raglan”, and that is so true. Even if you feel like you don’t progress, you learn something (sometimes it’s only realizing what you do wrong) and at least you are out in the water with good people, good vibes surrounding you. It is so much fun! If you don't take lessons, I would still highly recommend to rent their surf boards, because you'll do the warm up with the people who get a lesson, you'll never be left alone in the water and if the instructors see you struggle with something they'll help you as if you're still taking lessons with them. Thank you, Wes, Bing and Zen for making my last week in New Zealand unforgettable!

Did a 1 on 1 lesson with Wes during the week. Such a good time. He's a brilliant instructor, really honed in on my technique and gave me a lot of food for thought. A few weeks ago, my two friends and I stayed at Bing and Ryan's place for two nights and surfed with them for seven days. We booked surfing lessons for three days and were allowed to rent the boards and surf next to the group for the last four days of our stay in Raglan. As someone who has never surfed before I was not too sure if I'd manage to stand up but thanks to Bing it worked on the first try!! He, Zen and Ryan were very motivational and funny and treated us like friends. We had a wonderful time and enjoyed every single minute of surfing and hanging out with the guys. In fact, we loved it so much we came back a second time to spend two more nights at their beautiful house and catch some more waves on the beach. I'd recommend Green Wave to anyone who wants to learn how to surf and to those who'd like to relax in a friendly and welcoming environment. Thank you so much for your positive attitude and your help! I just loved my stay at Green Wave Raglan. The people are the friendliest people you can ever meet. During my stay it felt like home! Everyone is full of passion about surfing which makes you even more excited to go in the water and learn how to surf. At Raglan, the kids under 10 years old are required to have a private lesson. e.g. one on one or one on two lesson. We were with three couches and all of them are highly recommended. I spend 5 days surfing with these guys and it was amazing. Most of the time Ryan and Bing we‘re teaching me how to surf and it was so much fun because i improved very fast and stood on the board from day one on. The tutors are excellent with their knowledge of surfing and are more than willing to pass their wisdom on. They are encouraging and will always give you tips on how to improve. Staying at the house has also been a fantastic experience getting to hang out with everyone and the food is amazing.

Couldn’t recommend Greenwave any higher. They made our whole Raglan experience so much fun by introducing us to surfing and making us feel so welcomed in their surf club house. We were in a group of 4 people in the lesson (all beginners) and were shown all the surfing basics. We all had so much fun and by the end of the lesson we were all standing up and catching most waves. We stayed in the surf club and loved the whole laid back vibe of the house. We were cooked the most gorgeous roast pork meal (exactly what we needed after so much travelling and a day of surfing) and we ate as a group around the table which was great. Greenwave is perfect if you are travelling in ether a group or by yourself and would definitely recommend!

Luckily for anyone trying to learn how to surf - this surfing school just happens to be at the most consistent spot in New Zealand - beautiful Ngarunui Beach. Beginners through intermediates will learn a lot during the lesson both on the beach (going over basics, etc.) and in the water with hands-on support from the instructors. EVERYONE stood up on my lessons, without exception. The small class size helps, and keeps it very personal. Hands down the best surf school in Raglan, and it comes with the bonus option for you to stay overnight with them at their surf & stay in town. The Team from Greenwave is amazing and you will have a lot if fun with them! They do really good surf lessons, just in small groups and you will see your own success every day. I went down for a weekend trip with the bro and did the 2 day surf and stay package. The surf lessons were epic! Awesome instructors who are incredibly knowledgable and great teachers - They had us both popping up and standing on waves on the first day, and we even had some turns dialled in on the second day. They keep things fun and easy going. The accomodation is great! Such a beautiful location with a chill family like atmosphere. Food was great, facilities are clean and I had a comfortable sleep. I spend 4 nights in the house with the other peoples who were here to learn surf like me, the woofers and the team of teachers, and I took 4 lessons of surf. The lessons was really good too ! I was a beginner when I arrived and manage to stand up the first day because of the really good teaching and advice of Zennor. Book with Green Wave Raglan. Do it now! I stayed 3 nights and surfed 3 days (2 days group of lessons) and I would've quit my job and have never leave if I could have! My experience with surfing included a lot of wiping out and not getting very close to standing, but this time around I had proper lessons with Ryan and Carl and made my way up! GWR provided transportation to Ngarunui Beach and from there we suited up with one of their wetsuits and a board (different sizes to choose from.) Down at the beach, we started our day with some yoga and stretches and then we talked about the basics of surfing and the conditions. Then the best way to learn was to do it! The instructors were really chill and had good advice. They helped us catch waves and helped us learn how to read it ourselves. I'm not the biggest beach fanatic, but it's safe to say if I ever move by the beach, I'd love to invest in some surf gear in the future! Back to the Surf Camp... welcome home! The most relaxed environment with the coolest people. Staff that works there become your friends and there's only good energy! Meals are prepared every night and also amazing (with vegan, veggie, GF, etc. opinions - do let them know and do take seconds!) Oh and soak in the sun on their awesome front deck. It's awesome! I'm forever missing GW! It was a wonderful time and hope to see y'all soon!

I went to Greenwave for 7 days at the end of a two and a half month journey in New Zealand. I'm glad I saved the best for last! I had tons of fun and made some new friends in the process. I joined Green Wave already a few months ago during my trip through New Zealand so this review is probably a bit late, but better now then never ;) Bing is an incredible surfing instructor with a lot of patience! First I was not sure if I should try surfing as I was afraid of not manage how to stand up. But Bing convinced me to try it as he told me everyone made it on top of the surfboard so far. If you are not able to do so, you don't have to pay for the surf lessons. So I tried it and it was sooo much fun! Standing up was absolutely no problem with the help of Bing. Me and the other students had a great time surfing on the beach of Raglan and staying at Bings place. It was winter in NZ and the temperatures were very cold but with the warm wetsuits they offer, I didn't felt cold at all. Not a single second. Bings place is very cozy and you feel like home. Ever night there will be a family dinner with very healthy food. Yummie! I felt absolutely welcome and had such a great time there. So if you thinking about having some surf lessons in NZ, definitely go to Greenwave Raglan and do a Surf&Stay there!

Wir haben eigentlich geplant nur einen Tag Unterricht zu nehmen, haben dann spontan einen weiten Tag dazugebucht. Wir durften den Abend und die Nacht dann auch mit allen anderen im Surfschul-Hostel verbringen. Die Surflehrer haben ihr Wissen aus jahrelanger Surferfahrung mit viel Spass an uns weitergegeben und nach einem ausführlichen Theorieteil durften wir viel Zeit im und auf dem Wasser verbringen (gratis Nasenspülung mit inbegriffen ;) ). Das Übungsmaterial ist perfekt auf die einzelnen Lehrnstufen abgestimmt und die Neos halten schön warm. Wir haben uns zu jeder Zeit sehr wohl gefühlt und können diese Surfschule nur weiter empfehlen :). Danke Greenwave für die zwar kurze, jedoch um so schönere Zeit bei euch :)

(*-*) Am nächsten Morgen kam dann gleich die nächste Überraschung, ich durfte spontan an der Surfstunde teilnehmen. Ich bin zwar Wassersport begeistert, aber es war das erste mal das ich Surfen ausprobiert habe. Ich hätte nicht gedacht, dass ich so schnell auf dem Board meine erste eigene Welle nehmen kann.
