Introduction St Joseph’s Catholic School is an innovative and progressive full primary school focussed on successfully engaging and supporting learners aged from 5-13 years. It opened in 1911 and has a long history as being an integral part of the local Catholic community of Upper Hutt. The school is committed to fostering the uniqueness and achievement of every student as well as awakening their potential and nurturing their Catholic values. Students are drawn from a wide range of areas throughout the Hutt valley with the majority coming from across Upper Hutt. The school’s roll varies annually from 360-410 students. Our closing roll is 588 students. Core Virtues & Values Through consultation, reflection and ongoing review we have identified five core guiding virtues and values to help guide our Board, staff, students and community in the day-to-day operation and governance of our school: These DRIVE Values are: Determination Respect Creativity Love Excellence in an atmosphere of fun Our Place St Joseph’s School is a learning community committed to nurturing growth in all students through excellence in teaching and learning and the values of Jesus Christ.
