Excellent, friendly and attentive service from knowledgeable staff in the ladies fashion department. The sales assistant gave me good advice and seemed to genuinely enjoy helping me to select my clothes. I am very happy with the purchases. A great experience!

Lovely store with an extensive range. Mostly high end and great quality but watch out for some of the more affordable homeware lines they stock. In some cases you will get better value and quality at K Mart. Staff are all pleasant to deal. Great central city location. If you are there during the Christmas period they have a fantastic themed window display that the children love.

This store is really great to look around, especially at Christmas time when they put on some fantastic window displays. Allow yourself a good hour to wonder around all the department stores within, and try out some of their tasty treats if they are serving. I had a yummy Eccles Cake, which was delicious.

Heaps of shops a reasonable choice of places to eat . What more could you want,oh I know , a place to park, there is a real shortage of parking but their parking police are over vigilant so make sure you keep an eye on how long you are there and the time Zone . No pressure!

Fantastic department store in Christchurch. Quality selection of products suited for all ages. If you're looking for Chic decadence that's not from a chain store I would recommend stopping here. Ranging from streetwear to home decor, Ballantynes offer choices for all ages. It's a great place to stop for last minute gifts as they offer gift delicious gift wrapping at the counter.

The Tea Room down stairs was fabulous. A delightful Japanese gentleman took our order at the counter.The ambiance of the Tea Room is very pleasant and there was a good choice of food at the counter. Highly recommend a visit.

didn't have the tom ford perfume i wanted and it as a 3 month wait till a new order came in which was sad but the lady easily helped me find another one which i loved. went to go get a bra another time and the staff were so helpful and they even got the senior fitter to come and help. sadly didn't have a bra my size though which i expected from such a bug store such as this one which was very sad but they gave me other places i could go which was nice

I enjoy Ballantynes in the morning after they open at 9am. The breakfast there is probably one of the best in Christchurch. The coffee is delishiously consistent. The staff are friendly and helpful, especially Di n Paul in the men's dept.

I was solidly disappointed with the Christmas experience at Bally's this year. We were on time for our 9am booking for Santa but slightly confused on how to get there. Get there we did and still waited in a queue. Thats fine, it moved quickly, and Santa himself was as lovely as ever. However, there was no beautiful big door to walk through, no slipping your paper in so that Santa's helpers knew your children's names. The photographer was lovely and the pictures were lovely. The printing set up once we left was awkward. I appreciate the technology being used was faster than previous years, but it still felt awkward. Anyway, pictures done and dusted. The Christmas decoration area was the smallest it's been in I don't know how long. Not a large selection for choice, felt pretty underwhelming and disappointing to be honest. Before we leave we stop at the cafe in the atrium. There were 6 baked goods in the cabinet. What once felt like a nice spot to have a sit and look at our goodies and talk about Santa felt like we were just wasting time. We were so uninspired we just left quickly - forgetting to even go have a look at the windows.

A bit disappointed by the Santa's grotto last year....they could do much better with this than just a room....come on you have the space to create something far not enchanting. Rather than have it free you could charge a few bucks and make a Xmas woodland you walk through to get to the grotto...I'd happily give you ideas :-)

We came to do Christmas shopping on Sat We were served by Kim in the pantry who gave us exceptional service as we chose products for a family gift basket Kim helped us choose products and gift wrapped it to perfection she even carried it to our car as it was heavy Kim was Soo polite and lovely smile everything you could wish for in exceptional service Well done Kim We then went to several department s and purchased other gifts service was all excellent We went to find the Christmas shop and we're very disappointed as to where it was stuck in the back of children's wear and was very disappointed in the location and merchandise available not a patch on years ago when it was on first floor and as you came up the escalator there you could see it in all its glory just so beautiful While we were in store several people commented on its location and chose of decorations Christmas is such a joyous time of the year and we all should be clutching at the nice things in life as we have all had a terrible year I hope you will take in hand my comments and to congratulate Kim in Pantry for her fantastic service It still is nice to come into Ballantynes and we always enjoy coming in to shop and to see Ballantynes still gives very nice traditional service an to see it has moved with the times to also cater for the young adults Many thanks once again Penny McAlister Phone 033106914

Very large department store in downtown with plenty on offer. An extensive women's section which focuses on small sizes. I found it difficult to locate anything over a size 10 (US 6). They sell mainly high end brands. They had several beautiful pieces in menswear but the prices were steep. They also failed to remove the security tags which meant we had to return the next day. Ballantynes also carries homeware and furniture. I was disappointed they don't carry California King bedding as they're clearly wanting to be perceived as a high end store. I was bummed we ran out of time and weren't able to visit the wine bar. Overall the store is well organized, clean, beautifully styled, and offers extensive goods for those seeking specialized consumer goods.

We purchased a dress for myself and a suit for my husband on valentine's day. Staff is extremely friendly and helpful. Lot of variety and good stuff. Just two downsides - all sizes weren't available. I liked two other dresses a lot but they weren't my size. Clothes are very expensive but we bought because we liked them and wanted them for special ocassion. However, you can't find such good variety at other nearby stores. Hence 5/5.

Hard to find anyone to assist you as Ballantynes approach seems to be ' brands renting floor space ' which is fair enough however not flash for the customers. Has always been an incredible store with a great range of high end products. However there has been a noticeable decline in kind and welcoming staff. Quality and service is quite good for menswear. Price is not within reach for the average person and their alteration service screwed up both hems on my pant cuffs. In reality I would wait for their sales and you can get a great deal, then take your garments to a competent Taylor.

I shopped for the first time at the Cashel Street store in Christchurch on the 16/07/2020. I base this review on past experiences with David Jones etc in Sydney. I was happy with the staff I dealt with over the 2 floors-v. helpful getting the right sizes etc and I bought several items. That was until I had the last Salesperson 3835 (10:02am) A younger person, maybe mid 20’s who couldn’t contain a giggling fit directed towards me. Not sure why...? I left embarrassed for her and sorry that the other staff I dealt with were so let down. Immature and unprofessional. Otherwise 5 stars so thank you.

I really like this shop. The staff are extremely polite and helpful. I think it is the only shop that I have been thanked for my custom. It was sincere and not forced like the American have a great day. I also enjoy the old fashioned classic department store feel of the place, long may they continue.

Loved this store. I must admit we only went in on a whim sorta like what the heck. But wow where we surprised. Customer service is second to none range and quality are top notch . You will find a huge range over 3 stories ! It has everything from clothes to alcohol and everything between. Bargain bins and high end fashion there are special brews of coffee and tea and even a kids section. To top it all off it's family owned what more could you ask for :)

It is always a pleasure to come in here. It something for everyone, does duty free, has cafes.. no reason to leave in a hurry!! The sales are legendary, well worth saving up for. The food in the cafes is delicious, as is the coffee and tea selection. Staff are always very helpful. Would highly recommend a visit here

I love Ballantynes Pantry, I got a few things there for icing cakes sadly only one item I could not find, a shop assistant was very helpful went way and above with help, we were checking out a form she had with the item I wanted but as I needed it more or less straight away she photo copied the design for me so I could go else where and hopefully find one, which I didn't, my friend and I then went to a few departments in Ballantynes and ended upstairs in the coffee shop, very satisfied I had my all time favourite of ICED COFFEE with the works, being whipped cream and icecream in the mix a big scrumptious 5 star for my coffee. All in all the experience was a 5 star rating

Great shop, wide variety oh the cloth made objects, I would definitely go again but I would not recommend this shop to anyone who is poor. This shop is for the upper class human or the wannabe upper class human/hypebeast. Ballantynes has retained it's good decent service. The staff are excellent and I love the downstairs cafe, not only for the wonderful food but also for the kindness of the staff. I also visited the Dior perfume counter today and the shop assistant was very helpful.

Great range of products and beautiful homewares, but we were completely ignored when we went to the Homeware Store on Colombo St yesterday. We walked around the shop for 15 minutes and not one of the 4 staff asked us if they could assist us - or even greeted us. There was only one other couple in the store so it was no5 as if they were busy. Very disappointed.

Ballantynes sees itself as the old family established type of shop that sells a variety of goods and is worth a browse.Ive browsed twice now in as many weeks and the staff are attentive to ones needs which also helps to sell product. My only complaint is at the entry/exit to the Lichfield St carpark the handrails being brass are in a urgent need of not just a clean but a polish.I doubt if they have had anything than a quick flick for a while ... remember this is public space wether walk thru,browsing or shopping and should,like the toilets sparkle

Large variety of products. Many fancy brands with big price tags. Just be careful walking around the shop so you don't accidentally knock something over. They've got China, makeup, menswear, kitchen appliances and products and gift ware on the ground floor. Children's, hair salon, and a cafe downstairs, and women's clothes and shoes upstairs. You can also do laybys if you need to

New Zealand's first and longest standing department store. While it's arguably the main department store of Christchurch central, it isn't as big as other stores one might find say in a Megapolis like New York, London or Tokyo. Even the malls in the suburbs are bigger ; that is to say itis rather tiny. Couple of gems in the women's section and some sharp suits in the mens formal, but realistically the selection is limited and generally conservative.

I was in the ballantynes cafe & ordered a blueberry muffin. It had more lemon curd on it than blueberry. I got the napkin out from under the muffin to wipe my fingers but got sticky curd all over my clothes. A fork would have been handy but they didn't give me one. It would have been worse if I accepted it heated which I declined.

I really love our very own Canterbury department store. There is a hair dresser down stairs where I always go to get my hair cut and olaplex treatment. They are reasonably priced which was a surprise to me as I thought there would be high end prices to match the high end atmosphere and department store. I have had my hair cut by both of the women there and they are both fantastic. I also am a regular in the makeup department. I get my brows done at the benefit brow bar, and I buy the majority of my makeup from the mecca cosmetica counter. Mecca cosmetica have a really great range of products that you cant get anywhere else in NZ. I am now a level 3 mecca customer which just shows you how much I love their stuff. Ballantynes is walking distance from work so I can pop in at lunch for my brows. The ballantynes sales are legendary! Definitely not to be missed! Great locally owned department store that has so much going for it!

Lovely Department Store. Stocked with beautiful items including clothing, cosmetics, clothing and gifts. The friendly and welcoming staff are always very helpful. Only thing is it is very difficult getting there with the way the roads are now laid out and the lack of street parks. The Lichfield St car park lifts stopped in a back alley way with no signs as to where you were so I had a bit if trouble getting to Cashel Street. I also got lost finding the entrance back into the car park as well, having to walk around in circles trying to find it. The Lichfield St entrance to the shop seems to have gone which made things confusing too. When I finally found my way back to the car park lifts I spoke with half a dozen other women with the same issues. Apart from the parking issues, I highly recommend visiting Ballantynes.

Or you can buy an Italian tea cup, and saucer for $120.00 I mean who wouldnt love this place, its great. And I do shop and buy from Ballantynes, I especially love the selection of overpriced "label" brand name fashions upstairs, a shirt in China for $3.00 but same shirt in Ballantyne $180. To you it seems like god quality, to Ballantynes it seems like good profit! I like this place!
