M.Best selection of secondhand books in Dunedin. The building is straight out of a Harry Potter novel. Lovely and helpful owner.
D.A good selection of books, especially old, but the owner was paranoid and controlling, and I didn't like the atmosphere. I ended up spending all my time at the 'Hard to Find' where you can relax on a couch and the staff are friendly and easygoing. The two shops have a similar size of book selection, though 'Dead Souls' might be a better prospect for rare and old editions.
EDIT. In response to the owner's comment, allow me to clarify. On my first visit he prevented me from entering because I wasn't wearing a mask, though I did have an exemption. When I pointed out it was illegal to reject my exemption the owner said it was his shop so he made the rules, and that customers had complained about naked faces. I pointed out that masks are illogical but accepted his position and left amicably. I later returned wearing a face covering he accepted. There was another customer, but when there was no one nearby I lowered the face covering for a minute because I find them stressful. I would have raised it if anyone came near. The owner seems to have been stalking me, for he suddenly appeared and kicked me out of the store. That's what I mean by "paranoid and controlling".
Ironically I'd just about decided to buy a copy of Hannah Arendt's book on totalitarianism he had on his shelves. Probably better I left it for him to read.
O.Best secondhand bookstore. They offer a rare but still in good quality book. Hand picked by the owner, huge range from novel, fiction, history, to philosophy.
It is definitely paradise for a book worm. Let me live there! Owner is very friendly and know exactly what you ask.
It might not be the cheapest secondhand book price, but it is the best service and quality worth.

This small secondhand bookshop will keep you hunting for the perfect read for hours on end, with books stacked on floor-to-ceiling shelves. I would recommend anyone who is interested in reading or parents who want something else for their child to glue their eyes on instead of a screen to go in and have a look around, if theres anything you need the staff are always friendly and willing to help out no problem.
