Usually there are no issues when going here, and i am here a lot. Yes it was a hot day, yes even inside as there wasn't much of cooling anywhere in store, but still cooler than outside. Checkouts- the ladies were friendly,but the floor staff, the time i was there. Not helpful at all, felt like i was an inconvenience asking where an item i was wanting to buy, greeted her nicely as had heard her grumbling away to herself i assume,about this that and the other. Maybe she should have called in sick, would have done everyone a favour. Anyway told said item was in isle 8-9 , which I had already been up 5 x .... thought she might have come with me to show me as I said i couldn't see for looking. She didn't... so paid for what i already had and left. My first bad customer service experience here and I am hoping my last. Oh and maybe clearing the trolleys of stock back to the shelves faster would mean more material on the shop floor that people are looking for instead of over flowing and falling onto the floor. My 2c worth anyway.

Rather like a cross between a $2 shop and Aladdin's cave. Messy, confused layout full of interesting interesting 'goodies' and bargains. Watch the prices of your 'bargains' at the checkouts, the posted shelf prices often bear little resemblance to the 'scanned' prices ... generally in the customers favour ... but I'd rather have an accurate price advertised at the product. Looking for 'on the shop floor' assistance? Forget it ... you're on your own. Ready to check out? You'll stand a good chance of doing just that ... as you wait interminably for the customers ahead of you to have a half metre of 'this' cut, a quarter metre of 'that' ... let's hang around a little longer as they 'now' decide they've forgotten the 'matching spool of thread'. Yes they have a dedicated checkout for quick 'packaged' items ... you'll have to queue in the 'everything' barely moving queue until it's your turn to select it. Never (that I can recall) been there without some level of checkout irritation. Todays problem? A 42km return drive to return a double fitted sheet presented and sold in a queen fitted sheet package ... ho hum ... there will be no apology, no compensation for wasted time ... Spotlight conducting 'business as usual' ... bring your blood pressure medication. Some time later … there was, as suspected, no apology, no compensation, no eye contact. One (only) alternative ‘same product’ found. Requested they remove it from package and measure … another Double in Queen packaging. ‘Factory packaging issue’ implied. Probably not I thought. Didn’t bother to request THEY source correct size … could be driving back and forth forever. ‘Refund thank you’. Done in a flash. They do excellent refunds. I suspect they do refunds often. Very often. Ordered online, correct Queen sheet in Queen sheet package arrive a couple of days later. Probably will try to do more ‘Spotlight online’ rather than Hastings store in future … their courier charge is way less than two return trips of 42km each in the car, their service is reasonably quick and THEY do the ‘hard yards’ to locate and forward items from their stores if they don’t have them at their bulk store. Four out of five for product range, zero for the competence of the local operation.

Great place for curtains and accessories, helpful and knowledgable people in the aisles, but the lady at checkout counter is bit rude no need to name her she will know already, probably having a rough day. Thank you to the staff who helped me find what I was looking for. 👍🙂

Generally friendly and willing to help but slightly lacking in knowledge about certain things. Instead of referring up the line to get question answered, assistant just waffles trying to cover she didn't know answer. Shame, she was actually good but did not feel comfortable asking for advice from team manager. The store is packed with lots of eye-catching things and I have adhd so I was like a kid in a sweatshop round eyed and completely overwhelmed by the massive choice of lovely colourful things available and unable to choose. I settled For taking 100s of photographs to edit down at home to help make a choice. I went in just asking for diy roman blind kit,(not available), and looking for thick linen sheeting fabric. Must be 100% cotton with dense heavy weave. Not stocked unfortunately. Staff were good company when you could cut one out from the pack to talk to them. The place is an alladin's cave and I worryingly spent 3 really happy hours in there. Great store, a bit chaotic in outlay but charmingly so. Be prepared to be distracted by either lovely things or stuff that you just HAVE to know what it does or you'll not sleep till you get the answer! It's fascinating to a magpie like me. DON'T go there with kids! Not against rules, they'll just think they've arrived in Narnia and you may have difficulty finding them when it's time to go!

I found the shop most improved; stock on the shelves orderly; queue process at checkouts working well and checkouts being manned by helpful, friendly busy staff. I love shopping here. Unfortunately I'm disabled and have trouble going inside the store so thank goodness for internet shopping. I must add though the shop is excellent for navigating a wheelchair around the aisles, plenty of room. Their online service is absolutely amazing. There must be thousands of products available and they also have project ideas for people. I buy virtually everything from the online site. They are very quick sending the items to me. I also love the sales they really knock down the prices. The products are excellent quality also.

This store has a textiles range so broad it boggles the mind! Fantastic staff ask if they can be of assistance every single time in in the store. Getting cuts completed and paid for is fasy and pain free. Parking is ample, but is shared with another store... be prepared to park a little down from the main doors for your best experience

Sorry for the staff working!! I couldn't find anyone on the floor for a suggestion or help. Only 4 staff at the checkout counter. When the customer wants something to be measured, cut, staff have to close the check out counter to assist. Where they leave the Q on waiting. I feel shops like spotlight need little more staffing specially on weekends. Finally i ended up coming out without getting any help or purchase. Sorry.

Lots to look lots to buy. Customer service not what it should be. I came across an elderly gentleman who was looking for needles. When he asked directions he was just sent to the appropriate aisle where I encountered him and he asked me for assistance he said I dont know where to look I am so overwhelmed. I helped him and gave him advice on what he might need. He was so appreciative. It only took me a few minutes to help him. Perhaps staff be more aware

We always like visiting Spotlight. It is a "trove of treasure" and you never know what you may find. We especially love the rolls of fabric. The selection is OUTSTANDING. This time we bought knitting wool, and needles to knit scarves. In the past we have purchased items such as beach towels, bed covers, curtain fittings (they have a great range of curtains) cross stitch materials, to name a few. There is a huge selection of wool; and crafts in general. A coffee mug got added, to our trolley, as we passed by the china display. Sometimes you just cannot resist a wee bargain. The staff are AMAZING POSITIVE and HELPFUL. Great work Spotlight!

Come here for great prices and range, but always feel a bit flat afterwards. Nothing is particularly inviting, the place feels like a cave with all the windows covered up and the displays don't do anything to show the products.

It would be beneficial for Spotlight to invest in upgrading the store a bit - the shelving is old and hardly inspires you to linger in store. It has the same feeling as Bunnings whereas both stores could take a leaf out of Mitre10’s book.
