Great, quiet relaxed atmosphere. Lots of great books in there.

Fantastic selection of books. Lots of interesting subject books that you probably won't see in all the other mainstream shops. It does seem to be primarily non-fiction, which is actually a nice change, but there is still good solid wall of fiction as well. And quite a bit of poetry!! Good customer service as well. They were quite willing to have a quick chat about habits of eating after I purchased On Eating Meat from them. :-)

I love a good bookshop and Poppies is a very good bookshop. But every time I go in there, I never get spoken to. If I make a purchase the workers are always curt and there is no or little warmth. I realize that the store is in Havelock North, but is it necessary to be so pretentious? Always? I would give more stars, but a great book shop is made great by having great staff. Poppies could learn a thing or two from Beattie and Forbes or Wardini Books.
