This is the perfect stop for those snacks and drinks, supplies on your travels through town. Wide selection of gormet and organic foods and health products. I had a locally produced organic orange juice which was devine! Recommended!

Without question the best cheese shop in all of Kaiwaka! I have been to every other and they pale in comparison. If cheese is needed while in Kaiwaka it would be absurd to go anywhere else. And if you are in Northern Kaiwaka and need washing up liquid, they have the best in Northern Kaiwaka! You could have the cleanest dishes and best cheese by shopping here!

Decent range of cheeses, gifts and, I think, Dutch specialty foods. Most recently I brought some stollen, smoked brie, garlic and chive cheese, walnut cheese and mexicana flavour. They also stock a variety of wines, chocolate, gifts, fresh produce and deli meat. A firm favourite and will stop in whenever I go north to Whangarei. I also just found out you can order online (including cheeses), HURRAY!

Good selection of cheeses to choose from with a small test taste to see if I liked it. Chose a Maasdam cheese and a slice was cut and was then offered the option to have it cut into bite sized pieces for the road. Great ! A lot more than just cheeses in the shop but not enough time to explore this. Will have to come back another day.

If your going north do stop here. The cheese smells terrific and we found these very cute teabag sized tea pots for using with loose leaf tea. They were just five dollars and while not particularly practical they are very very cool. Not all the smile making things in life are must haves....but stopping in will lift most people's spirits:-)

This place has the best selection of cheese I have come across, I'd also highly recommend the stroopwaffles which have become my favourite food and the salty licorice for the more daring characters. A must see destination.

The small array of imported Dutch cheeses across the wall behind the register is quite a delight for any Dutchie. There's not a whole lot of unique Dutch products that you can't find more easily (or more cheaply) elsewhere in NZ, and the range isn't large, but the small store is cute and the attendants are friendly. Good to stop in on your way around the gorgeous scenery of the area. Make sure you buy some of the aged Old Amsterdam and the basil Gouda, since they ARE difficult to find elsewhere.

Excellent cheese shop! Everytime we go to Auckland we stop here to buy all our favorite cheeses. The woman who owns/runs this shop is very knowledgeable about cheese. She's very professional and always let's you try any cheese that you'd like. They carry many beautiful cheeses, some of which I've never heard of or tried. This is why it's so great that she gives you samples. This way you don't buy a whole thing of cheese that you take home, try it, and dislike it! There's nothing worse than buying any food getting it home and end up not eating it. I hate waste like that. So I really appreciate this cheese store. They carry a very old Gouda that is to die for! It is really amazing with nutty notes and a wonderful constancy. We usually end up buying a huge amount of cheese at one time because we only go to Auckland once a month. So we're buying enough to last us a month. They have just opened a beautiful Cafe, not sure if it's owned by the cheese shop people, right next door. This is a great place to grab a tea, coffee and a snack before getting back on the road. Next time you're in the area, or if you're lucky enough to live close by, stop at Kaiwaka cheese shop and try some amazing cheeses. You will be happy you did!

Talk about a specialty store... but its not all just cheese... also specialty European food products and a range of wines to go with. Often have a few local fresh fruits, nuts and veges as well. The lovely ladies behind the counter will help you taste test as many of the amazing cheeses as you want.

Excellent selection of cheese and other tasty products. Refreshing to see some speciality cheeses from around the world and New Zealand, and a lovely proprietor to help you choose them! I've found one of my favourite shops out here, being a huge cheese lover. Highlight was the Manuka Smoked Cheddar and there was even some great Stilton on offer. I'll be back again a fair few times I'm sure, thanks a lot.

This was my absolute favorite stop along route 1 in the Northland. It is right on the road and is a tiny cheese store with wine and other foods. The cheese ladies are incredibly nice and will have you try every cheese until you find 5 that you like. Loved it so much I came back for more cheese on my drive back down. Love this cheese shop! You can also order and ship to most places! Try the goat cheese!

Let me start by saying that I was raised in a Dutch family so cheese is life. This time we got portions of the Chilli, Maasdam, Leerdam and mature Gouda. We also snagged a packet of venison biersticks which were delicious. I would like to stop here every time I come past but $50 worth of cheese is not exactly something my budget encourages.

Fantastic selection and super friendly staff. Worth the stop off - last cheese for... We got the Manchego and peppered gouda and it certainly helped to accompany some well deserved Pinot. The hosts were happy to let us sample and try a few of the cheeses. They also have a large selection of deli-type accompaniments but we were happy enough with the fantastic cheese. Certainly glad we stopped off on our way to Ruakaka.

Croquettes, nettle cheese, walnut cheese, hours shut at 6pm. This is a must, pull over. Something for everyone, and a LOO for customers, heaps of parking. Smoked eel, alcohol, deli, dutch cheese slices, these guys have the best range out if all the cheese shops I go to. I travel New Zealand often.

We cannot go south without stopping at the Kaiwaka Cheese Stop. We are usually topping up Dutch sauces, spices and seasoning mixes, as well as snacks-for-the-road in the form of licorice and other treats we can't get anywhere else. There's also plenty of non-food items for sale too, plus of course, delicious Dutch cheese! I didn't realise how much of a tradition this stop had become until recently we decided to skip it in order to make better time, and I found myself having unsatisfied licorice cravings for the entire trip! So if you're Dutch (but also if you're not) make it a mission to stop at least once so you can see what I mean.
