G.I've been to the Unity book store in Auckland but I've got to say the Wellington store is in another league of its own. The open layout with recommendations and high shelves makes for a fun time browsing. Your eyes will always travel to the next exciting book that might become your next new favourite. The small cards showing that the staff have read the books are very helpful as I don't have to try search for online reviews.
I walked in recently trying to think of a gift idea for my partner. Immediately I was greeted by a lovely staff member who asked me what genres and price range I was looking at. They led me over to the relevant section and showed me some books that aligned with my partner's intetests. I was very pleased with the recommendation and would go back just to chat to the lovely person who served me ☺️.
I needed up browsing for 30 minutes more to look at the other books they had to offer. I love that they had quirky postcards and small books at the front in case you didn't feel like committing to buying a book and just wanted to settle for something small.
Love visiting here when I can. The overall team seem very kind and genuinely interested in what they do. Thank you Willis St Unity for always being so great!

S.I've never been in person (I'm in the UK) but they provided a great service recently when I ordered some books for a friend who lives in Wellington. The special orders team kept me updated during their lockdown and sorted my order really quickly as soon as they could. Lovely service!

E.Unity books is one of the best book stores in New Zealand. Peruse their large collection on hand or order something in. Their staff are ever helpful and are total book lovers so you can have a long yarn about your favourite reads with them and pick up awesome recommendations in return. Even if you aren't buying anything, it's totally worth a quick peek in nothing more than to stick your nose into one of Wellington's literary institutiona.
A.I love unity books! Spend hours here witha coffee in hand. Always end up spending far too much money but never regret it. The store is laid out in a way that makes it SUPER easy to browse your favorite genres and dive into options that you're not usually drawn to. They always have fantastic recommendations and the vibe in store is always great!

Discovered 101 plays you should read before you die, and The Tao of David Bowie. Found a comfortable seat near the window and browsed Jacinda Ardern and Helen Keller biographies. The shop was packed with tyre kickers (like, myself) and the tills were as silent as the dark side of the moon. Is this store a social enterprise for the lexically deprived? Appears, so. I'll prove myself wrong by buying a little paper brick! You folks too. Love, Unity (Books). Comfortable seats.
D.A huge range of books for all ages, fiction and non fiction alike. Knowledgeable staff, happy to assist. A loyalty card has been a welcome component for purchases over many decades.

S.If you love a good book this is the shop for you. Well laid out with an amazing selection of books. I could have spent hours browsing the selection, but I only had 10 minutes before closing, no matter I found a fabulous book and will go back for more.

M.A centrally located, spacious book shop right next to the Willis Street bus-stop and opposite New World Metro, UB resembles a small library and carries a large stock of interesting books covering all genres. Armed with chairs and tables it facilitates browsing in comfort until you find what you seek. The presence of friendly staff also helps to make this a great bookshop.
H.The store is more of a specialty bookstore and are often happy to order books in or help you find what it is you're really after. They tend to display either the latest books of a series, or special edition books, but that isn't to say that there isn't a wide range to choose from, nor that the old favourites aren't there. Definitely hit up Unity Books if you or someone you love adores reading.

I.Book shops are so rare these days but their appeal is massive. Whilst I understand that the economics of publishing on paper are disastrous I whole heartedly applaud places like this that determinedly hold on. Support with all you can before such a shop becomes a myth.

R.If you love books you will love visiting Unity Books - an amazing array of books to suit every possible requirement and pretty reasonably priced. I give a lot of books away as gifts and like collecting books of all types and content - the shop is well laid out absolutely crammed with beautiful books, they have a great staff pick column where you can quickly select a book based on short comments by staff which are always spot on - a great children's section to cater for all ages - staff are all the best, very friendly, helpful and efficient. Shop is in Central Willis Street and easy to get to. Quite often in a hurry I park outside the police station on Victoria and dash through the arcade otherwise parking downtown is the usual drama in Wellington. All in all an iconic book shop and one I am compelled to go to on each visit to Wellington.

V.I was looking for "neverwhere", by Neil Gaiman and after one hour of walk around other book shops I went inside unity books, the staff has been more then keen on helping me finding what I need. They had different editions and overall they have quite a good selection of books. The staff was amazing, they gave me also a lot of advices on similar books and authors. Probably one of my favorite book shops in Wellington.
