R.Huge selection of books, beautifully organised, a fun shop to browse. There is a budget room for those after a cheap holiday read under $5.
W.A lovely place with a huge amount of books to choose from. There's a children's section with some toys where my 1 year old could play. The staff entertained her inbetween business, so I could browse. Great service! Worth to pay a visit.
T.Lectiophiles and Bibliophiles probably already know about The Piggery, but if you like books and don't know about it you can't go wrong by visiting here.
T.Huge selection of second hand books but at least 3/4 I could go buy a BRAND NEW book for that price - was shocked at the prices
T.This bookshop is so great! I went in and the guy there was so friendly and helpful, I told him what I liked and he reccomended a couple of books he thought I might like. I just finished one and am onto the next! This was one of my favourite things about Whangarei, if you love books then definately stop by 💖

My son asked me what I wanted for Christmas this year and I asked for vouchers for the Piggery. He'd never been in there but as soon as he did, he knew why it's my absolute favourite bookshop. I even found a first edition Winnie the Pooh for my grandchildren.

N.Wow! What an absolute Treasure!! That rarest of rare shop in NZ, a used book store. After 7 years in Auckland I had forgotten the smell of real books. You must come to Whangarei just for this alone. The selections are great and the prices reasonable.
P.I must admit I've been spoilt with what's available in Auckland. This place is pretty decent and we did find books to buy but theres much better in Auckland. I think a rebranding and a new story, maybe something personal to the owners people can relate to. Better labeling and window displays would help too.

A.If you like reading or you want to smell a light sweet scent of the past just pop into the store and enjoy the wide variety of old and not that old books, magazines and more. You can find real pearls of the classics literature for almost no money. Bought 1938 Arthur Conan Doyle complete adventures of Sherlock Holmes for only $11. The lady, I suppose the owner of the book store was very nice and friendly. When in Whangarei will definitely pop in again.

S.Here are the books I bought last Friday with one hour visit: "Talking to Strangers" by Malcolm Gladwell; "History of New Zealand" by Michael King; Beautiful Losers by Leonard Cohen (Yes, the legendary Canadian Songwriter, Musician and Poet); "Winston Churchill's Speeches" selected and edited by his Grandson Winston. S Churchill; "Life is so good" by George Dawson and Richard Glaubman. Absolutely loved the shop. I used to go to the Strand in New York quite often. Piggery is just the right size. Sometimes bigger does not necessarily mean better.
R.Just the smell of the bookshop when you enter sends you back in time! Loved the place. Mary, who steps in to assist is very sweet. There are these little sections with reading nooks.
M.As a newbie in a bookshop ( online reader) it was a bit overwhelming and confusing. However there are books galore of every and any genre. Happy reading.
C.We always visit when we travel up north. Never leave without at least one more book for the collection. Maybe could have been a bit warmer last time we visited in winter...would've stayed longer!
