Reviews of New Regent Street Precinct
K.
Cute little street, great range of bars and food
M.
I had a nice rendang here. The bars and deli's are pretty generic, gentrified and overpriced but its redeemed by some quality street food on the lower level. Probably 1-2 stars without them.
M.
Went to Story restaurant for dinner. Beautiful fresh wholesome food. Then followed up with Whiskey at The Last Word. An amazing atmosphere work amazing whiskeys! Perfect late night... lights and atmosphere at night in New Regent Street fantastic.
B.
Good selection of boutique shops and eateries with al fresco dining. Great place to relax and enjoy coffee/drink and cafe food.
M.
Love this beautiful little street! It has a great little whisky bar, some coffee places, it will be buzzing when Christchurch finally rebuilds the downtown district someday. I look for reasons to walk down here and grab a drink.
P.
Great part of central Christchurch, quaint buildings and lovely feel about the whole area. A great variety of shops, eateries, gifts, etc. We came back in the evening, and the precinct was all lit up in various coloured lights... looked stunning in the evenings darkness. Looking good Christchurch!!! 👍
D.
I love walking down this street its very very old and will take you back in time. Lots of very old shops
C.
New Regent Street -wow! Gorgeous dinner at Casa Publica with bonus rums to finish, then off to The Last Word for whiskey and chocolate, great service at both places, and a fun night for us all😝🤗
C.
A must go destination if visiting Christchurch. Great cafes, shopping. The tram runs through the middle of the old precinct. If you are catching a show in the city, do Regent St.
D.
Getting popular everyday, this helps keep tennets and expanding Business opportunities in the area. Again worthy of 5 Stars as a collective.
J.
It is a nice little arcade with many small but interesting food and drink vendors, but I found it very dark at night as there is very little lighting. As many of the shops also have very subdued lighting, I get the impression that this is the atmosphere the management wants to create for the arcade. Quite romantic and quiet actually, even on a Saturday night!
N.
Dope! Maty J cooking tacos is amazing. Such a great chef go eat his food if you haven't already.
S.
A street lined with pastel-coloured buildings which are cafes, restaurants, bars and retail shops. A city tour tram runs along the street. To be honest, not much to see, no wow factor at all.
P.
Very cool place to walk through many yummy things to eat and very cool.
f.
One of the most tiny upmarket streets of a bygone era in wonderful Christchurch. Neat one of shops, great eateries and along by the Theatre Royal and Arts area, all fitting together rather nicely 😀
P.
Thankfully still intact after earthquake s, has an old Havana feel or South beach Miami.
T.
Great place , but the first time I've had to make the choice of whether or not I want to tip. On the credit card information yes or no if yes put in the amount. Thought I was in America I think management should pay the workers the right pay, as this is NZ.
I.
One of the best places to go in CHCH. Provide a unique offering of hospitality and other businesses in an intimate setting.
E.
Nice to see this row of shops coming back to life after the Christchurch earthquake. It's the home to many small novelty shops, including the delicious Mrs Higgins bakery that does cookies that are warm, fresh and to die for!
E.
A wonderful street with colourful buildings. A nice choice of different places to eat with some nice selections of rum in one place and whisky in another. Or just go for an iceream or a stroll trough the street. Nice to do this on a tram ride or to see the colourful tram passing by.
B.
Great place for coffee or a good stroll through a unique part of town. Nice shops and cafes along the mall with a tram running through the middle.
R.
Gorgeous little Heritage Street tucked away beside the Theatre Royal. So many small businesses working hard to help bring the city back to life. Every store is locally owned and their are 5 jewellery stores all quite different which is ideal if you are looking for something perfect as a gift. I love this wee street.
A.
Cool place to go to eat and drink relaxed and family orientated is so good.
B.
Quite a pretty place to visit. Somewhat eclectic range of shops
J.
the design of the place is super nice and theres lots of nice eateries and little shops! short walk from the interchange, or you can hop on a tram to get here. not as big as i thought it would be, but still a really nice stretch of shops! pretty nice street to walk down in the afternoon when everything’s still open
W.
It's the coolest street in town. It needs to be checked out.
G.
Its nice its just let down by ongoing development around it and the unattractive tram stop that has not aged well. There are still one or two boarded up leases that let the whole show down. Overall good number of cafes and night restaurants but the takeaway lunch offering in terms of dedicated sandwich shops could be a bit better.
s.
Beautiful precinct surrounded by heritage buildings, antique shops, cafes and restaurants. Nice and easy stroll down the new regeant street with a great vibe. Close to city centre and tram station, easy to go to places, convenient with parking and public transport.
R.
Great place to relax, have something to eat & watch the trams go by
D.
The Last Word whiskey bar, amazing atmosphere, friendly staff, looking forward to going back !
C.
Love the Chicken & Chips. Especially their Korean corn dog - yum yum yum.
P.
It's OK. Trendy and expensive, but at least it's a bit of culture in Chch, something it desperately needs.
R.
Always been my favourite city street in Christchurch hands down. So colourful vibrant and nice variety of shops and eateries. Love the trams coming by every few minutes.
D.
We enjoy the great variety for breakfast or brunch, especially on a sunny day.
G.
One of the most beautiful streets in the country, it reminds me of Italy
s.
Still a great spot for Coffee, so much to choose from including tram rides
t.
No 1 spot to catch the tram and such a pretty st...Eat , drink and coffee are highly recommended..
H.
A fav spot in town. Love the art deco buildings and variety of shops... good coffee too
C.
So beautiful this street, and vibrant. A reminder of San Francisco and other art deco areas of the world. A must see stop on a Christchurch visit. It is incorporated into the city tram ride so very accessible.
m.
Great place to visit. Beautiful, eclectic, and with the trams going down the street, very special.
S.
Great place to walk around with a coffee and shop.
E.
Lively and fun during the day, yummy and relaxing at night. One of the few parts of the city you can get a quiet drink and nibbles quite late. 🤗
S.
Picturesque little street in Christchurch city center. Lots of cafes and shops to visit. A lovely place to come and enjoy an afternoon exploring.
R.
Lovely quaint street, lined with beautiful old buildings, must see while wandering christchurch.
D.
We tried the new waffle haus today. We had a grabone voucher which definitely made it more affordable. The waffles were hot and fluffy. Topping were great. Just could have done with a spoon to go with the fork hard to eat melted ice cream with a fork. Great place for dessert or a coffee date.
L.
Great place to visit. The Waffle Haus was exceptional.
E.
Even though I only go to New Regent Street to get to Stage Door so that I can buy my daughters ballet things. We discovered Belle Cafe during one of her performances. The street is always bumping but so relaxing to sit and have a coffee outside as you watch the trams go by.
M.
Great vibes, a variety of cool stores, eateries and bars. We got gelatos, whiskey and a piercing on a Sat night! 🍦🥃🧷
R.
I get the feeling that the area has seen better days. It's kind of lisyt it's vibe.
E.
Always a pleasure to visit. Was a talking point with our group of mixed aged group
C.
Such an amazing lively street! Jewelers, to food places and amazing bars. Most beautiful street in New Zealand
j.
A quaint shopping street to enjoy. Boutique styled shopping and eateries.
a.
Trendy small street with great cafes and shops
P.
A neat little tucked away alley in the Christchurch City. Many wee stores and seating to relax around. It's a nice spot to visit and take in and everyone should have a look at least once because you may find a hidden treasure store
t.
it's a wee world all of its own. and a glorious one at that. great vibe
N.
Fantastic slice of CHCH, together with the other pockets of joy in the centre of town this city has really come alive once again. And surprisingly family friendly even at night time.
D.
Interesting... Got to try the waffles and dessert place.
F.
Very good shopping area with many restaurants. A delicious breakfast or a nice lunch can be found here.
A.
Lovely vibe and atmosphere, super food
N.
Set out well, clean, tidy and welcoming
D.
A really unique little corner of Christchurch. Great place to get a coffee and mooch around. Full of interesting small shops and eateries. The tram line runs through there but you are better off to walk it. I'm really happy that the earthquakes didn't ruin this area.
D.
Love the non milk specialty ice cream shop. Can't understand how it's not made of milk products. My friend and I often attend for same, and chess tuition. Great staff here, and I like Sushi shop (etc) same side, in proximity to initial.
D.
Absolutely love it! So many places for coffee or a meal - not to mention the gelato. Has a great vibe with the busy pedestrians and the trams. Also dog friendly which is always a good thing.
P.
Beautiful timeless street with little treasures of shops
M.
Had a great late afternoon cocktail experience and we're pretty sure the rest of the establishments would have delivered an equally rewarding experience....great atmosphere and environment close to the central city
L.
I've always loved this Street. Lots of food. Beautiful buildings and a very social, friendly street
n.
Very nice to peruse here and have a coffee or meal or cocktail. Some cute shops with retro stuff and jewelry. Great ambience a bit like Europe great job
K.
Has changed a lot since pre-earthquake times ..... First time back since then. We are blaming to come back when more of the shops are open during the day ..... Starting with one of the cafes.
B.
Great place to visit. Anything from great coffee and food and even whisky! A showpiece for Christchurch. Cheers
M.
Interesting mix of shops, cafés and restaurants. Plenty of outdoor seating but gets busy at peak times
R.
Coolest Street in Christchurch: besides its famous Gelato cafe which ALWAYS has line ups out door 15+ people deep, day or night, it now boasts a "Spirit Smorasbord", with 3 establishments specialising each in promoting Rum, Whisky, and most recently Gin. A "Go to" must do, for sure!
D.
Lot of boutique stores and some mouthwatering temptresses here.... Yes, looking at you Waffle Haus, Rollicking gelato and the fresh cookies place! New regent? perhaps should be Heaven's Lane?
T.
Great fun shopping and restaurants and food bites coffee shops
C.
Love this place. It has a great vibe with a range of indoor and outdoor eateries plus other interesting retail outlets. Casa Publica on the corner is a great bar/restaurant and often has latin / tango dancing regularly. The trams going through the street add more charm and interest.
K.
Great to see you can bring your dog in. Always very busy and hard to get table. Staff are friendly.
C.
Quant little restaurants and other stores. Check operating hours of places and if bookings are essential prior to going unless you happy to go with the flow and explore further around town. Enough paid parking available after hours in the area. Good area to wonder around further and explore christchurch
S.
Always love it around here in chch
D.
Nice street with plenty of history has the tram running through it which provides plenty of charm.
When the sun is in the right position can get very hot.
Mixed shopping and quaint ideas for both services and food.
P.
Very famous street in city centre of Christchurch. Well know for its architecture and uniqueness. Every shop looks same but paint colour is different. This street is specially famous for getting localmade different stuffs. Also there are lot of food and cafe shop which makes it crowded but worth to go there and spend some time. Christchurch tram pass through this street which makes it more interesting and scenic.
J.
The weekend atmosphere here needs to be experienced! Perfect place to recharge your batteries (particularly if you are missing Christchurch)
E.
New Regent street is a great place to visit for a Coffee in the sun while enjoying the architecture of old. The many coffee shops with seating outside are great. You can hop on the tram here too.
We tend to continue though tramway lane to the central city.
Great part of Christchurch to walk around.
J.
You know this place feels really quaint in a tourist trap kind of way but some of the pricing herein is very good value for money. I like it. The only reason it's 4 out of 5 for me is because more than half the cafés/shops are closed in the early evening.
Definitely worth a visit if you're passing through on the tram.
M.
One of the nicest things about Christchurch.
S.
Such a random selection of shops on this street. But the best is Rollikin gelato!
M.
My favourite street in chch! Check it out!
d.
Quirky shops and cafes. Watch out for the trams run right through the middle
H.
This place is clean. I love the value of Christchurch history and the beautiful atmosphere. I have never had a bad experience in all the times i have visited the area! The gelato place is amazing, the best in Christchurch! There are lots of seating areas available. It feels like a very open space.
S.
The best Italian meal I've had since being in Italy/Sicily last year. Absolutely authentic, and so friendly. Portions are very generous and prices are reasonable. Good wine list too. Loved it and went back for a 2nd night.
M.
Renovated 2013 and still great. I have noticed a turnaround in shops but atmosphere is still inviting to tourists.
V.
Nice look to the street. Access to the tram. Had a coffee which was fine. Mid morning and nearly completely empty of people.
K.
Good spot for a day date.
C.
The last of the few remaining heritage buildings of Christchurch, it's wonderful and heartwarming to see these colourful and vintage buildings restored, a little glimpse of what the city centre used to be. Not much going on shopwise, mostly touristy, gift and souvenir items. A few good cafes nearby with outdoor seatings where you can relax and enjoy your drinks and watch the world go by
m.
Love the range of different foods.
B.
Colour street, but not many shops are open, most restaurants are running by Chinese mainlander, they don't know how to do the cooking right.
R.
Great variety of boutique style eateries and stores. Very hip and trendy. Good place to meet your too cool friends.
R.
Very nice quaint place to visit neat night life especially if you are after a very chill night out with old friends, try the whiskey bar awesome
J.
Does have good cafes and a great whisky bar. Lacks atmosphere.couplre of shops still boarded up from earthquake.
c.
Great atmosphere and the vibe of old Chch lingeres here, nice place to go if you want that feeling of character and charm with a cross between alternative/modern vibe
L.
One of my favourite streets to walk and go through in Christchurch, it is a very cute and quaint with great restaurants for all taste, it reminds me of the old stores that might have existed in Christchurch and that the colour scheme gives it a fun atmosphere
J.
Had a lovely meal where the qaiter recommended the wine to go with my meal and it was perfect. Given that I was on my own it was great to feel so welcomed. The atmosphere was lovely although I suspect after 9pm it comes alive even more. The customer service all round was warm and accomodating.
S.
Great vibe and places to eat
C.
A very delightful street to walk around and see the architecture. It's so beautiful here and I love the tram that passes through the area! Lots of cute cafes and things to see. Definitely recommend!
T.
Love the corner Thai nook. Quick quality food before dance at Casa Publica
J.
Lacks magic. Not like it once was, now it's a cafe/dinner shops with the odd boutique mixed in. ? Nothing stands out as very special. A few nice coffee places. The Last Word does some nice drinks.
Still has a few unrefurbished shops as the cheap/inconsiderate/lazy owner won't fix them, kinda ruins the whole street.
B.
Cute lots of food places .
s.
Such a beautiful place centre city with good cafes and the old christchurch vibe
R.
Love the lit up buildings and the macadamia shakes. So cool to be able to jump on and off the trams!
B.
I love hanging out here, grabbing a gelato, checking out the shops. A great atmosphere
f.
Awesome place to check out. The ice cream shop gelato a real treat! Great little stores and seating available. Very nice coffee and trams running through added to the appeal
D.
A must see street in Christchurch with food, bars and a great range of shops
M.
Well worth stopping in here!
If you have kids, take them to the Southern end and there is a room with knee high piles of Lego! and its free!
If you are dating, go to a different cafe every day down this street, when you get to the end, I am pretty sure you will be getting married soon!
K.
Fantastic little street filled with many independent stores, nice restaurants and trendy bars. During the day, New Regent Street makes for a great photo opportunity all the building facades being painted in the same alternating colours.
F.
Nice little area, very enjoyable. Lots of different small business including cafes and bakeries, tourist shops and bars. In the middle of the road the Christchurch tram runs along. Great area.
S.
New Regent Street is such a fun, city-centre hubbub of the perfect mix of activities. Whether you want to enjoy gelato, a nice drink or some delicious food, New Regent precinct is the place to be! There’s something for everyone and it’s just such a well put-together space
C.
Nice wee mall..good cafés & shops.
탄.
It is a really good place. They are safe and friendly, and the variety of products is also varied. Especially, The 'Go kiwi' shop was very friendly and we were able to have a nice dinner with good restaurants.
N.
Excellent lil part of town tucked away waiting to be discovered. Great food places awesome desert shop, go indulge
A.
Beautiful old buildings that managed to survive the earthquakes in 2010-11. The buildings are restored with modern shops and cool little places to hang out in. A must for every visitor.
S.
Great iconic ChCh street restored to its former glory post earthquake, unique as is the old architecture from a by gone time. Great eateries and local cafes and wine bars, other businesses to mention is Polished Diamonds excellent Jewellery shop well worth a look in. All in all a must see and visit location in the heart of Christchurch.
C.
My favourite street in Christchurch
There are more shops and bars opening here but right now there something for everyone.
Gelato, whisky cocktail bar, restaurants, take away, cookie shop, Tourist souvenirs, Hair dressers, salsa dancing at casa public on the corner. There are seats and table down most of the street for people to enjoy the sun and the good food and drink available here.
The trams pass down the street so please keep in mind and a lookout.
P.
Even though it's called New Regent Street most of the shop's and restaurants are in original old building's with a tram line down the middle of the street you have plenty of restaurants and cafe's to choose from with a good selection of eclectic small shop's to browse
C.
Some buildings yet to be repairs make the street uncompleted. What ashamed, some really unique eating places and nice cafes around. Space to improve but a beautiful street as part of Christchurch attractions.
H.
The atmosphere is just great! There is a delicious sweet shop and an Italian place at the corner
P.
Pleasantly busy on a Saturday night.
S.
Great food cafes icecream and atmosphere.
S.
Beautifully restored after the quakes a few years ago. Still some shops to open but a window in to earlier times in Christchurch, complete with passing tram and seating. Well worth a stroll.
G.
Greta atmosphere. Unique part of town
P.
This is one of the great parts of Christchurch with heritage building's. Done quirky bars and cafes and one of the best Ice cream places in NZ

R.
Very colourful and has great shops, cafes, restaurants, etc. It has a good variety of different places so there will always be somewhere that you will like. I personally love mrs Higgins cookie store and rollikin gelato... yummmm!
L.
My favorite street in Christchurch. A little European oasis in a New Zealand city. Beautiful, colourful terraced houses hosting all sorts of small businesses. Come for a coffee and something to eat, try one of the delicious gelatos and home made cookies, take the kids to the nearby Margaret Mahi family park and enjoy the best Christchurch has to offer.
E.
This street is kind of boring, not much shops here. Not very happening.
A.
Nice ambience. Plenty of window shopping
C.
New Regent Street is a beautiful and must see spot for tourists coming to Christchurch city.
From the bars, buskers, cafes, shopping & restaurants to The amazing Groovy Glasses.
When ever I'm in the CBD i always end up in New Regent Street.
L.
Nice lot of shops. But the shop I was looking for had gone and the site on the computer had not been updated
R.
Interesting architecture, across road urban breeding ground for endangered gull species. Will be gone next year
L.
A great area to spend time with friends to bar hop enjoying the atmosphere,
B.
Small street with plenty of character. Trams run through giving it a vintage feel. Not sure if it's original or reconstructed after earthquake.
M.
Cool and quaint little street, but unfortunately like so much of the inner city eerily quiet and dead.
S.
Kind of little gem of a place with beautiful cafes and dessert shops around
R.
One of my favourite little nooks in this city. I love this art deco look and the a good are so cute and inviting. Really love being here and milling around....

M.
Lovely area to visit and get my favorite eggs benny's with salmon and beetroot hollandaise yum
M.
Nice pedestrianized street with many interesting places to eat and hang out. The only traffic on the street is the tourist tram.
S.
It has some highlights with Rollickin, Last Word and Caffeine Lab but there are a couple of places that are a bit of a let down. Room to improve with the derelict building from the quakes still there.
B.
Good memories of a childhood in Christchurch during the 50s. New Regent St has somehow managed to stay relevent right up til the present.
A.
Have been coming here since I was a child. It is such a classic part of Christchurch. Local cafes and restaurants, gelato, shopping. Something for everyone
E.

disappointing in terms of size and many shops were closed no matter what time of the day - expected more since every christchurch tourist website says this is a good shopping street to go for food too

Excellent meal at 27 Steps, as always.

Very cool Art Deco street. Some cool stores but would make more sense to have less travel stores, etc
p.
Good buzz and great place people watch while chilling in one of the many new establishments popping in Christchurch.
