C. M.I don't give reviews easily but I just had to for this business. I've yet to visit their shop but I've ordered numerous items from them through their website throughout 2021 and the quality of their products and their service has been excellent. They sell many of the same items as the bigger stores, but often at cheaper prices, and you can also find items that the bigger stores don't sell at all. Top Gear is always the first place I go to when looking to purchase certain items. I can only speak from my experience and so far it's been really good.
S. C.I have purchased a couple of knives from Top Gear. One was a Svord Peasant and the other was a Victory drop point hunting knife with a blue plastic sheath. Both knives are very good. On both occasions the service was excellent and prompt. Shipping was quick. The prices were very competitive. I would have no hesitation to use or recommend Top Gear. Update August 2021. I really like Svord Peasant knives so I ordered a couple more from Top Gear. They arrived quickly. They take a good edge, have a sturdy design, and they work well. They also don't have the scary 'tactical' appearance that many modern knives have. These are utility tools that I feel I can take anywhere. I am a hunter and outdoors enthusiast and I've used my Peasants for all sorts of things. I get a good edge on them with sharpening stones, fine sandpaper, the unglazed rim under a crockery plate or mug.... or even a sharpening steel, although some folks say this is not recommended. Works for me. If you can see the picture I've tried to attach you may notice that on the older knife I've ground the back of the blade to create a sharper point. I've also cut off the excess at the lower end of the handle.

They stock many top brand items that you won't find with the bigger NZ stores and their delivery is speedy. Top Gear is my first stop for new outdoor gear. Highly recommended. 5/5
A. C.Recently purchased a set of knives from here online. Wrote a message to them on Facebook to confirm the item was in stock as the shop closes early and received a reply message to confirm within an hour or so. After confirming purchase online I was asked to make a bank transfer and followed their instructions. As I made the transfer late at night a received a confirmation email the next day to say my parcel was on its way and a track and trace courier link. Parcel arrived 2 days later. No items missing. Happy with my purchase and would buy from them again. A little unusual to make a bank transfer but it really wasn't difficult.
Q. G.I love this store! They are always willing to help you find what is right for you, not just trying to sell you the most expensive thing. They have fantastic knives and accessories like sharpening stones and paracord. I go there often and never leave without buying something.

S. N.I was a bit hesitant about purchasing from this online store because the website was a bit dated and didn't offer online payment directly through the website (i.e. have to make a bank transfer). I looked on the official Victorinox's website, and Top Gear was listed as an official stockist of their products which reassured me to go ahead with the purchase. Really pleased with the excellent communication, prompt shipping and the quality of product received. Thanks so much! My Dad loved his Christmas present.
F. S.I ordered some goods for my sons birthday, initially I recieved no confirmation or contact even though I had already paid. I then filled out a review and repeatedly emailed and phoned. I eventually (2 weeks later) recieved a reply saying that they apologised and that the order had been overlooked. They now did not have 2 of the items in stock and so I requested a refund which was promptly processed.
A few days later I recieved another email saying that they had since found one of the items I had ordered but I decided not to go ahead with the order. I found that once contact had been made Tess was very helpful and they were polite and processed my refund promptly.
C. H.Although the online ordering is a little bit old-style, working on a reference-based bank deposit system, it works really well and exactly as expected. I ordered late on a Friday evening, the package was shipped mid-afternoon the following Monday (even though this is outside of their opening hours!!!), and arrived early morning the next day, meaning that I didn't miss my gift deadline! Packaging was great, with a paper invoice included in the packaging, as well as cellulose-based packing peanuts, meaning that you can dissolve them in water and use them as compost! If I had to recommend any changes, I'd ask to update the website to something newer, allow web-payments and/or integrate e-commerce (I know this costs, and if you aren't doing a lot of online orders, is irrelevant) and maybe an email to say that your payment has been received and order is currently processing, but otherwise, a great store, with a great selection, and great service. Definitely deserving of the 5 star review. Thanks Top Gear staff!
A. R.I recently purchased a couple of items that I wasn't able to find anywhere else - A Mora Hook Knife and a Mora FireSteel. Both were in stock and despite the 1990s website and archaic payment system - the goods arrived in lightening fast time and were packaged perfectly. No hassles from my perspective.
