What a special gem of a place! Lara and Clarissa were wonderful hosts; Lara especially was a thoughtful, personable and fantastic guide. She checked in constantly with us, provided excellent commentary and we felt safe at all times. Breathtaking views of Farewell Spit and Abel Tasman from the Old Man Range. Horses were very well taken care of, equipment immaculate. Speaking with James and the team after the ride showed he takes great care and pride in his horses and the team and skills he has. Highly recommended, we didn’t want to leave! I’ve been on a few horse treks but this one took the cake. Thank you for a magical experience.

Greatest horse riding experience ever. From riding trough water on beach and bush treks with highly experienced guide's. I have to say that James with so much horse riding experience and the beautiful Clarissa with her bubbly personality and friendliness are just amazing and make you feel at home and part of the family. Speights was my mate today as I fulfilled a lifetime dream of horse riding on wharariki Beach on a 41/2 hr horse trek. It was everything I dreamed galloping the along the beach then up into the mountains which was a little scary but it was sensational. James and Clarissa were great fun and took great care of me and their horses highly recommended to anyone with a passion for WhararikiBeach and horses. Thanks again and I’ll be back.

What an amazing experience! My partner and I did the Old Man's Range trek and we had a fantastic time. The horses were beautiful and had no qualms about carrying inexperienced riders. My horse on the day, Missouri, constantly looked back to check that I was okay - so cool. The view from top of the hill overlooking Farewell Spit was absolutely breathtaking. The staff are brilliant, all so friendly and made sure that everyone was safe and having a good time. Thank you, Clarissa, Lara, Renee, and James! We'll definitely come back and do it again.

The team were just amazing, we had a reasonably big group but with four guides everyone was very well looked after. The area is just stunning and it was great fun having a splash in the sea. The horses and amenities were in top top shape as well. What impressed me the most was how extremely well they handled a mix of novice and experienced riders which isn’t an easy feat! Overall five star experience, I had a fabulous time.

My wife & I were a bit nervous about our first ever horse trek experience, but James, Clarissa & Renee quickly put us at ease with their easy-going nature, care & professionalism. All 3 checked in with us on seperate occasions during the ride to ensure we were comfortable & enjoying ourselves. All horses were calm & a joy to be around. We could tell that James & his staff are passionate about horses and there's no doubt that the horses are very well looked after and cared for. Being Nelson locals we've visited the area many times but there's something extra-special about experiencing the spectacular scenery of Cape Farewell on horseback. The team were happy to take the time to take photos on everyone's phones of us all on horseback from a spectacular vantage point on a hilltop with Farewell Spit in the background. There were also young kids on the ride & they were very well looked after with extra attention being paid which was nice to see & you could tell they were having an absolute ball! We highly recommend Cape Farewell Horse Treks!! Thanks so much guys!!

Amazing!!! 10 out of 10! Horses are so well cared for and trained beautifully! So safe, soft, kind and fun riding horses! You can tell they like their job! Staff are awesome! Lots of great chats and laughs had, they make sure you are all safe and having a great time. We had lots of opportunities to ride faster being Experienced riders and we noted how well they look after their learner riders too ;-) Scenery is just amazing! Simply amazing! It’s breathtaking! My Husband and I did the Puponga splash trek which was fantastic!! Through the water and over the hills with great views along the way. James and Lara were awesome guides, very friendly and experienced people. Ice and Storm were a delight to ride and very well mannered. We would definitely do it again.

Our little family of 5 had an absolute blast on Friday morning riding with the guys from Cape Farewell Horse Treks. From the moment you arrived you were treated like family almost. My daughter absolutely LOVED the experience, and to get the 'special' helmet made Rubes day! Thank you Pam & the team for making our ride such a memorable experience we'll never forget. The horses, Scooby, Tonks, Arnie, Buster, Roger just the best. This is a MUST DO experience when in the area, we did the estary & bush ride, very, very awesome. :-)

On Anzac weekend, five of my friends and I went on a trek with Cape Farewell Horse Treks and we had an awesome time. The majority of us were pure novices, but the instructors were great at getting us up to speed and teaching us the right techniques. The loop we trekked around was beautiful; along the estuary and up into the bush. I never knew how much personality horses can have. I also learnt that you need to really yank on the reins to slow or stop them, and that having the stirrups set to the right height is VERY important (especially if you are a male) for when the horse begins trotting. The staff were even so kind as to post me my sunglasses that I left in the saddle pocket back to me. We all really enjoyed the experience, highly recommend this adventure!

Absolutely amazing! I've been on a few horse treks and these guys by far beat the rest! The staff are amazing! So very friendly and not afraid to have a joke. The horses are so looked after and loved and it really showed in their demeanor. The ride itself was exceptional. Through beach, forest and open spaces. I did this trek with my husband and it absolutely counts as the high light of my 6 week trip. I was very nervous to start with ,as a 60 year old beginner, but felt very looked after by the team Charlotte, Clarissa and James. Walking through the sea was amazing and I quickly forgot all my nerves. The views were sensational.We even got to trot part of the way. I absolutely recommend this to everyone.

Excellent afternoon. The guides were very experienced, friendly and helpful. The horses had such strong personalities. There were 8 of us in the group altogether and our trek lasted 2 hours, giving such beautiful sights, in the river and up the hills. My horse Jethro was crack up and very easy to ride. Thanks so much to Pam, Clarissa, James and Arney (the horse) for a fabulous experience which undersold and over-delivered. I joined the puponga beach splash which was an amazing experience going for a swim on Arney's back with stingrays and seals, a real once-in-a-lifetime experience. The trek up the hill to see Farewell Spit was an added bonus. I can't wait to come back next summer :)

My wife and I took a trek during our honeymoon. The horses are well trained. My wife and I rode on Jethro and Sahara respectively. Pam is an excellent guide and loves her animals. Make sure to listen to Pam's instructions. She knows her horses well! Follow her directions and you will be on a relaxing ride in no time. We rode up a hill with amazing views of Golden Bay at low tide. Since weather and the tide were cooperating, we were able to ride down to the beach and take the horses in the tidal flats. We saw many birds. A couple fantails followed us for part of the journey. We also saw a seal playing in the shallow water. Make sure to keep your distance from the seals! A memorable and wonderful experience!

An amazing 3 hours riding over old man range. Have only ridden a horse once before but they catered to me no problem. A lovely horse, group of 6 riders plus 2 excellent guides. Fun and professional and breathtaking views over the whole local area. So pleased to have chosen this. Followed it up with a walk to wharariki beach to loosen up my legs!

Wow what a fantastic day, We had family over from UK for Xmas and we were all blown away by the scenery( we did Old Man Range) but also by the service and our guide Charlotte who was awsome , so knowledgeable and patient with us all We have done horse treks all over the world but this is by far the best ,Highly recommended for any ability .
