Haven't been here enough to judge it, but the one time I went there this Jan in afternoon on a weekday I liked the demographic of staff. Haven't seen the staff during the day, so can't judge too much about the ethnicity of people they hire. I have seen other countdowns such as countdown columbo street where they are highly discriminatory and try to exclude New Zealand workers from working there. Countdown Eastgate as I said I visited one afternoon and quite a few staff were New Zealanders, would have to visit a bit more at different times to make a better judgment but I am pleased that atleast there was a moment in the store where I saw mostly New Zealand workers which is quite uncommon in other stores such as Countdown Columbo street.

Great variety of products and a very friendly team. It's always lovely chatting to the checkout operators and deli staff. Good range of hot chickens always available. Good meat specials. Great range of health food and special diet food items. Things to improve on are the number of smaller sized shopping trolleys, and the availability of keto bread (often runs out).

Service is great 99% of the time but the prices are borderline criminal. If you use the delivery service you should always check your order and check off the invoice because 1/3 of the time I am missing an item.

I quite like this countdown, it has a pharmacy inside, fresh deli, bakery and is often well stocked, also they are often the store that provides my weekly online shopping. They are very consistent packing all the correct items or providing suitable replacements. Would recommend for weekly shop or a quick stop.

This gets five stars for the staff being lovely even though they put up with some bs. From the regular sprinting shoplifters to the lack of heating in this place in winter, it's a rugged little gem of a supermarket. And you can check out the New Brighton beach /peir/pools while you're there.

I've been going to Countdown Eastgate on and off for 10 years. They always have a decent selection of everything, the prices are ok but not as good as Pak n Save, and the staff are great. All except one lady who works the self checkout. She's been so reliably lowkey rude for so many years that at this point it's almost just a funny quirk. Almost.

I've always had positive shopping experiences here. I've always experienced quick and swift service from cashiers and when I use the self checkouts and need assistance from the one staff member who manages that section is always pleasant and the staff member is always friendly and helpful. You can't go wrong with the specials here and it's always very helpful to carry a one card in case of any other money saving specials. Just remember your bags and that's about it.

The staff here are wonderful. I went in to do the shopping with my baby and usually she doesn't fuss much but this day, she wailed from the start to finish. I thought I'd have to leave my groceries but all of a sudden I had 3 staff members appeared next to me. One held my baby, one unloaded my trolley and another packed my bags for me. I will forever be grateful for their act of kindness that day. You made a stressful situation much easier. Thank you so much. I wish I'd gotten their names.

It's big! Chances are they stock what ever your looking for and then some. I find the chemist with in great and I really like the deli. it's not my nearest supper market but I don't mind traveling for a good shop!

This is a good supermarket. They always have good specials but unfortunately there is one staff member who is always on the self checkout who is so rude it is a wonder she still works there. Three times I have had a personal encounter with her and she is always the same pushy, rude and condescending. It's a shame because the rest of the staff are lovely and it makes me not want to go there.

Great staff, they are always willing to help and they are very kind and caring, I would've gave them 5 stars but I had brought some oysters from them, expecting them to be fresh I just ate it and then vomited straight away, my body knew something was wrong, I then smelt it and it was revolting, I was mostly disappointed that I now had no oysters but the lady at the counter was happy to refund my money, had I provided a receipt, all and all, I was fine, I didn't eat half and decide it was not good as my body wouldn't of been able to handle keeping it down
