Reviews of Riverside Market
S.
Went for a fun late late lunch with children and adults, we wandered around to look at the different kiosks. We started with Bubble Tea, then hot chips, sushi, Japanese dumplings, and sushi from the sushi train. We finished with liquorice from the lolly stall. So much fun 🙂
m.
love this place! 😊 such a variety of food options - love the juice bar. so well done up, and there's also so many places to sit and eat as well which is obviously a added bonus as you don't feel too crowded out. highly recommend you go here next time you're in Chch.⭐
w.
I think the river side market is another example of Christchurch city council getting it right once again , the set up is great with different levels to eat and drink on every level , so go and enjoy the wonderful and exciting riverside market 😀
B.
I love going to riverside market when I visit Christchurch the diversity of people and food is amazing. There will be something for the whole family to try or snack on. The atmosphere is really great and it’s a modern take on a farmers market.
L.
This place is fab! So we'll thought on. Good on you Christchurch, this is the way to centralize and support one another. Tried 4 or 5 of these stalls and a few restaurants while visiting and the standards are really high and I was very impressed! Will be back
a.
Loved this place. Gorgoues collection of boutique shops and delicious different foods. I got one of the Snickers cookies and was to die for. Really gorgeous vibe going on. Very impressed!
J.
Enjoyable decorative and friendly atmosphere if you're going for a look or something to taste. The cafes around the market are worth a try especially SHE which is outside the Riverside food market, located on the alleyway going towards Cashel Mall.
K.
What an awesome idea and such an international feel! Great food and shops - worth checking out. Really enjoyed el Rancho Mexican Taqueria and Beehive Collective
C.
My first time to Riverside Market. A must visit when in Christchurch. Located in the central of city. Wonderful place for food, shop and catch up. The ambience is just wonderful.
T.
Great place for foodies. Nice and friendly service.
R.
Had the most authentic Dosa at the Dosa Kitchen @ Riverside Market. The dosa chutneys and the sambar were all fresh and full of flavors. The owner was super courteous and friendly. Great value for money and a must go place in this awesome market
D.
Busy and crowded, can be hard to fit. Small stroller is ok but don't dare with a pram during peak hours. Great food. Expected expensive prices. The Malaysian place does awesome dumplings. Best idea is to grab food and go eat out by the river or under the trees. Sushi train is my kids' fave, but at $5 for two pieces of sushi it isn't really worth it
r.
I love the environment of the Riverside market. It is unique and beautifully designed. I have been there all times of the day and the experience is always great. All of the eateries have delicious food. My favorite place to go for dinner or lunch is El Rancho and I like to go to Gelato and Tea or Sweet Revenge for something sweet. There are lots of options for people with food allergies. I recommend the riverside market for everyone.
L.
Recommended by a local. Oh yes, you could have fun here with a group of hungry and thirsty friends. Really good food. Or just with someone special looking around and grabbing a bite too eat. We will be back for more.
M.
So great. The layout prevents congestion, incredible selection of foods from around the world and classy atmosphere.
R.
Visiting our son in Christchurch for Christmas we visited the Riverside Market. A very modern -high end 'Market' look I found it very attractive to the eye and had a very good 'Feel'.to it . Lots of neat things to look at and purchase of cause. Shops are very well set up and very easy to browse and select. Staff protocol are attentive with out being intrusive but have a friendly selling personality that seems to work .
We eventually went up stairs and had a very enjoyable couple of drinks and nibbles at the Kaisser Bar before leaving. Again very upmarket and blends in well with the whole market feel. Very good value here I have to say.
A very enjoyable afternoon. A place one needs to visit when in Christchurch.
N.
Loved the Riverside Market. Had a great atmosphere and as always friendly people in New Zealand. Had a Steak Sandwich and Potato bites at the butcher on the left as you come in (my memory fails to recall the name). Loved watching the chef do his thing. A must when you are in Christchurch.
K.
Great place huge range of food eatries, something for everyone, very busy
J.
This place is so good - so many places to choose from to eat and little shops to buy goodies from. Would defiantly visit every weekend if I lived in Christchurch. if your not from in town - then must do to come and eat lunch/ afternoon snack from here.
P.
Not just another food hall. The Riverside Market is an experience. Gelato to Fresh fish, cooked lunch, takeaways on the run. A cool shake or a cold beer. Everyone is catered here. Seating in many different places. Accommodating for one person or a group. Fresh fruit and freshly cooked fish and chips. Come here whilst shopping or make it your destination. A must do while you are in Christchurch.
M.
Something for everyone. Grab friends or family and enjoy whatever your craving and sit inside or out together. Beautifully put together with all the different shops. Better then a mall and nice and Central. Love it
C.
My favourite place for shopping and lunch. Sometime just wonder around for the City vibe. Our fresh vege and meats are from the local butcher shop from Riverside Market Good quality foods and friendly staffs.
B.
BUSY.
Great for a lunch out and the experience of such a building. Very popular attraction for visitors and locals alike. Plenty of range for everyone's tastes with food vendors covering most ethnic styles.
K.
We had a delicious chicken meal from the first food shop on the left as you enter. Beautifully cooked chicken and pork with delicious pork crackling, came with yummy roast potatoes, coleslaw and salad. Friendly service.
J.
Awesome place - must see if in Christchurch.
Great food - try the steak sandwich from the Butchers Mistress.
V.
So much choice. Variety for all pallets. Great food from the cabinet or freshly prepared. Seating inside and outside or a short walk to the river. Salt and sweet and great beverage choices.
I.
We were pleasantly surprised to find Riverside Market in the centre of Christchurch, it is modern and upbeat place and definitely gives energy to the city. Great selection of quality eateries and shops!
D.
Always a good vibe going on, expectedly busy and the usual premium on pricing but enjoyable
A.
Such an incredible place! Such a lively atmosphere, lots of different stalls to shop and food places to choose from. Everything we have tried has been amazing. Such a gem right by the riverside. Definitely a must do when visiting Ōtautahi Christchurch. When we had family visit from Australia recently (in that small window when the bubble was open) we took them here and they wanted to go back pretty much every other day of their visit cause they wanted to try everything they could!
B.
A must visit in the city. Best vibes from Thurs- Saturday with good music and plenty to see and eat.
The market can get crowded at times.. but the atmosphere is great because of it.
S.
Neat upmarket collection of places to eat and drink. Quite diverse in choice with a modern Avantgarde feel. Beautiful park and surrounds outside make it a great place to relax.
T.
First time I had been there and loved this place! Great views and loads of food places to choose from, we got dumplings from one place and Vietnamese spring rolls from another and it was all so delicious. Definitely worth a visit, I'll always go there when I visit CHCH.
G.
"The Butchers Mistress" is a small eatery in Riverside market. Really fast, chatty and friendly service for a quick and tasty bite to eat. I had the lambs fry and bacon, which was so good that I will definitely be back for more. My friend had the bacon butty and she said it was so good. I went there on the recommendation of another friend who had the steak sandwich which he recons was near the best he has had. Highly Recommended!
D.
Always really busy. Good access with parking budings close by. A great place in the central city to visit and get some food. The outside area on warmer days is really good and is well used for events.
P.
Two of us went to the Riverside on a Saturday afternoon.
The Kaiser bar was busy, but we managed to get a table. The service was great, quick but not pushy; despite how busy it was, we could still hear each other speak. They have a great beer and wine selection, and the food was delicious. Prices were OK.
The Creperie was a disappointment. The crepes we had were average at best. My marshmallow one was just OK. The lemon and sugar crepe needed a real wedge of lemon, not the miniscule slice we got; brown sugar rather than white would have made it much better.
The cushion covers were atrocious - very overdue for cleaning.
The service was great - quick, friendly and professional.
B.
What a place! Great vibe, something for everyone. Fantastic range of places to eat, there are loads of picnic tables outside you can eat at too which is great
s.
There’s a lot of food varieties. Always our favourite go to in Christchurch.
P.
Spoilt for food choice and cool experience. Can't believe the wall on the side is flat if you look at the 3D mural art work on it. Also stop #3 on the tram route.
C.
A gorgeous spot in the city with a wonderful variety of cuisines available. Specialist stores including locally produced salami, tea and coffee outlets and great dining options. The Riverside Kitchen has cooking classes for all manner of dishes, will have to check that out sometime!
D.
Great place for all types of food.
J.
What a fabulous place this is for food and a catch - up with friends. The paua burger at kai was phenomenal. Canterbury Beer Collective has a stunning array of local beers on tap. There's also a butchers, greengrocers, fish mongers plus deli style stalls. Come here for some serious eating market - style.
S.
Very nice place to go, you can have a cuppa, ice-cream, souvlaki, Argentinean bbq 👌 good hamburgers, donuts, sushi, Mexican food, anddd much more... So much to see around... A lot of fun, a great spot to walk around and enjoy.
A.
Great atmosphere. There is a good food selection and most of the food is good. Prices are not the best, you need to be careful to what has got a normal price and what has an expansive price. Overall it is a great place where to have a lunch once in a while. Recommend
A.
A great gem in the heart of the city. Love the vibe there. So much on offer it's hard to choose (or it gives you a reason to come back!)
E.
Great range of food and even though is was busy as no problems finding somewhere to sit and the food was nice and quick , empire chicken is amazing!
L.
Amazing market with something for everyone. Baked good, gluten free, Keto, Vegan. Lollies to die for. Cakes, cupcakes, slices, ice creams. Fruit, veges, meat, fish, wine and Mediterranean goods. So lovely. Can't wait to go back.
B.
awesome place to go, for family and friends lots of food selections. great layout. friendly people
R.
Must visit! Awesome place to look around and grab something to eat. Always buzzing and has so many different cuisines. Definitely recommend
E.
Great place to sit down and watch street performers while having a cold beer and good meal at 1 of the many eateries there
A.
Such an incredible place. Such a lively atmosphere, lots of different stalls to shop and food places to choose from. Everything we have tried has been amazing.
L.
Wow this is definitely a place to visit if you visit Christchurch. It's fantastic and I was blown away. The atmosphere is amazing and the variety of food, drinks and produce is so good. I can't wait to go back sometime and spend more time looking around. I am very fussy when it comes to coffee and today's coffee was the best I have had in a long time.
F.
Very attractive market place for eating. Because actually it is a high class food court.
Comfortable to eat there. Especially up stairs
Wide range of choice too from simple meal to restaurants (up stairs)
But a bit pricey
So, up to how much you want to spend
K.
Amazing! I highly recommend spending a night out here, whether it's with the family or a romantic date, riverside market can cater to every palate.
E.
Very cool vibe, lots of choices for food. Can eat anywhere. Vegan options 💪
N.
A creative use of space and a reminder of the city's history. The variety and high quality of stores condensed into such a cramped space is impressive and perhaps even overwhelming to first-timers, but every stallholder was friendly and helpful and their products were consistently delicious or desirable. Worth every buck!
H.
Beautiful indoor mixed market, almost every type of food you can get in there in one place
J.
It was beautifully designed, all the stores had great display and all different sort of goodies to try. Would definitely go again
R.
It has everything!!! The ambience here is electric and the food is really great! I love the size of the prawns at the fish market! We are now getting close to REAL sized prawns. The sushi train is great too, it's the one thing that chch didnt have and I missed it terribly. Just great!!
P.
A foodie's heaven... what a fabulous market, we all loved it soooo much, we went back the next day to eat there again.
Loved the fresh Pacific oysters, such big oysters, we had them raw, and cooked.
Also had a Masala Dosa, great price, and so delicious. The ladies at one of the stores there, where they offer tastings of cheese's, cashew nut brittle, olive oils...they were welcoming, and very helpful, thanks ladies.
We also had some Japanese food at the Sushi Train, what a great variety of choices...my favourite was the fresh scallop ohhh yummo!!!
The fresh baked focaccia bread was another great delight, sold at the Bakery there. We had a fabulous time, so many food options... What a great market, well done everyone!!! 😍
K.
Highly recommend coming to the Riverside Market. Lots of places to eat and drink. Everything all in one place works really well. Spoilt for choice - which is a good thing.
J.
Great place to visit and eat in. Variety of international food to try. Prices vary. Expect to pay around $15 per serving.
D.
Interesting and bustling with several stalls, a foodie paradise.
E.
While it's a lovely arrange of shops the stalls are all too close together and it creates a very crowded atmosphere. While it's a must visit while in Christchurch it just doesn't live up to the old market
M.
Riverside Market has a variety of boutique shops and restaurants including a butcher and fishmonger. We had great fish and chips there. There is also a draught beer place with beers and ciders on tap to enjoy with your meals 😁🍻
A.
Love this place! This market offers a wide variety of food selection. Great atmosphere and dining experience. A must visit and a must try!
D.
What an awesome place, we had our dinners there for the whole time we were in Christchurch, so much to chose from......actually there was so much choice it was hard to choose what to get each night. Good atmosphere wish we had something like that in our town, so jealous. Special thanks to the lady who was clearing and cleaning all the tables all by herself, thankyou for your service it is appreciated and you were so kind when you wouldn't let us clear our table because you wanted to do it, thankyou.
Would definitely go back and recommend to anyone going into Christchurch city to go to the Riverside Market. A++++
A.
The new Riverside Market has a really good vibe with lots of artisan food stands, coffee, crusty breads, and fresh fruit and vegetables. It was busy when we were there, but not mad. Apparently 10,000 people went through it on Monday when it opened for the first time.
They have made use of recycled materials to great effect in the multi-level complex. It was nice to see a familiar friend, the old clock face from the demolished Moorhouse Ave railway station featuring on a wall high above the busy market below.
The split levels are a great idea. Eating a bite of lunch on the higher levels and watching the world go by below would be a nice way to pass an hour...
Definitely work checking out if you are in the city centre - it's a fantastic new addition to the CBD. @ Riverside Market - Christchurch
S.
A great place all in one in an amazing location!
💫Food-Coffee-Shopping-Relaxation💫
Locals or visitors is doesn't matter!
Heaven that you should not avoid just get into the car, google map Riverside Market and enjoy!
T.
This is a must do experience, Vibrant and full of Variety. The voucher system is great however, not all vendors will give you change with your purchases.
V.
I love Riverside! Thanks for bringing an eclectic and atmospheric shared food space to our city!
z.
Cool wee joint, has a bunch of different eateries and some bars all together, gets very busy and stuff is fairly expensive but usually pretty good. Could do with a bit of work on th outside area but getting there
K.
100% what Christchurch has been needing for a very long time now. Amazing setting - the atmosphere and design of the building is great, and theres always something new to try and see. Great place to hang out with friends, have a romantic evening, or solo surf though the many foods available
P.
Love it, great variety and food. Am yet to try all the vendors but what I have tried has been good
H.

R.
Great selection of shops and food stalls. Great place to browse for gifts!
K.
Love this place! It's great to have so many gourmet local food providers in one space. The building is architecturally interesting and there are plenty of seating options upstairs. Great atmosphere, like a European market. Good adjoining restaurants and bars. It would be even better if the market was open until 10pm on Friday and Saturday nights for people that eat dinner later in the evening, as we were kicked out at 9pm on a Saturday night.
S.
Exceptional service. Great staff, coffee and food options. I'll be making it a regular morning starter from now on.

The Riverside Market is an awesome new indoor market area in the heart of Christchurch, next to the Avon river. There are so many different and interesting providers of goods. The whole area is elegantly designed and includes a fusion of both new and classic elements. It was a real joy to explore the market and I encourage everyone to come and have a look.
T.
Lovely place to dine with friends and families. Friendly people and staff everywhere 🙂👍❤

Really good atmosphere and lots of choices for food and fresh produce and meats. Foot traffic was a bit frustrating but it’s so popular people are still checking out all of the variety they have and stopping to look into each place. Awesome food shops, beautiful gelato in the little gelato place. The 'death by chocolate' is really to die for. There is something for everyone at the food court, but also a butcher, baker, cheese shop and the Mediterranean Food Store. Ordered the waffles an me and my mum shared one. It was good in flavour just disappointed that it had some ingredients missing and added into what was being advertised. It was missing the choclate chips and the waffle was added onto it. I wouodmof preferred chocolate sauce but Less likely to go back

I hadn't been into the centre of town for ages so took a friend for a look and we walked along the strip by the river and found Riverside market. We wandered around the food stalls and perched ourselves on a bar stool and enjoyed a bacon butty and a lot of chatting with the other diners there. it was a lovely break and I sent other family members in the next day to have a look for

Love this place.
Great variety
J.
Just love everything about this place.
Fantastic choice of food and cocktails.
Plus the pie shop has the best pies ever
E.
Lots of meal options and drinks, nice place
K.
Busy and nice shops. Not much room to think with the press of people. But worth a look
P.
Amazing place. Such a diverse range of food and culture.
e.
Great selection of foods... dinner, snacks and stuff to take home... I particularly recommend Seoul Tiger... volcano chicken not for the faint hearted... and cluck cluck chicken.. great brekkie toastie
S.
Lots of variety, love the cultures that are available to buy food from
F.
Busy, lots of mini food stores. Sort of a high end food Court but it is very crowded.
T.
Great spot, lots of food choice. If you in Christchurch, this has become one of the places to visit if you are hungry.
C.
Great space to do gastronomic exploration.
N.
Up Market style food court -lacks fresh produce so not really a traditional market as such -expensive-I guess the rent is high- the new Christchurch.
P.
Wow! This place is awesome! Having visited the new Auckland Commercial Bay, you guys are way ahead! The vibe here is awesome and you cater for all not just one sub set. Loved the Mediterranean market and the Gin bar. Partner loved the beer collective. Highly recommend you all. We’re coming back to sample more later!
R.
I love the atmosphere and there are a variety of foods to choose from!
B.
Great place to visit....very well set out.
A.
A beautiful balance as this place is vibrant but clean, heavily-populated but inviting, small for a market yet filled with a good range. Pick up some dinner downstairs, take it upstairs and have a drink at the bar, then head back down again for dessert. Perfect!
V.
Amazing place. Several nationalities are there so think about something you would like to eat and you'll probably find it there. This is the place where all the families, group of friends and people go to have a good meal and a great time. Also you can find great stores there.
K.
Such a lovely little market! One of the very few places where the city comes alive.
C.
Great place. Caters to most tastes
I.
Great mix of food outlets in a central location.
C.
If you don't mind the crowd then it's a great place for shopping and eating!
H.
Excellent place for all visitors, highly recommended!
C.
Sunday 21st March 2021. What's not to like here?
B.
So many choices of food! Love the vibe!
C.
Such a great place. As a visitor to Christchurch this was an awesome area to come for food/drink. As a family there were options for all of us without all having to get the same food.
H.
The place just has everything you want. Tried a fresh Watermelon juice, there is also the mustache cookies and a great booth for tea! The tables outside the market have a nice view over the river and mountains too✨
F.
I love the vibe of this place and the sense of community. However, most of the food is overpriced and you get much smaller serving sizes than places like Little High, for example. The ONLY place I visit consistently is Kaiser; great gluten free fried chicken, pork belly and calamari in the city.
K.
Great atmosphere, fantastic selection of food and drinks.
E.
Fantastic meal from Empire Chicken and a very nice beer from the Riverside canteen. Lots of seats available.
S.
Food is excellent.. plenty of options...reasonably priced.. friendly people.. must visit if you are in the central city
B.
A great place to eat! So many choices
k.
So much to see and great choice of eateries
K.
Pretty cool but would not go there in the weekends or busy as day as people are rude and don't move for other people.
Food was good and some awseom stalls.
J.
Lots of great eatiers on the ground floor and sit down restaurants on first floor. Huge variety of food to buy including fresh fruit and vegetables. Lots of interesting cheeses and delicious looking meat.
T.
Lovely food stalls. Enjoyed the crepes.
N.
Love this place, heaps of bars and restaurants with cool looks and feels!!!
N.
Highly recommend the seafood deli's fish and chips. They do nigiri sushi too. The prices are reasonable and the quality of food is amazing. Also the watermelon juice from the middle kiosk is the delicious, although quite overpriced for the size of the drink you get.
e.
piano has a broken A key on it
haven't bought anything here yet
R.
Really nice place to eat and hang out, highly recommended!
K.
Always fascinating with all the sellers and we had a great pizza and beer upstairs
L.
Centrally located
Good selection of food store and other local products
C.
Always I visit Castro and Quincho, in my opinion, wonderful food.
Z.
Good varieties of food stall representing many different countries from Asia, European, America and others. Good crowd size especially during weekend. Do visit and immerse yourself with all the possibilities that might surprises you.
J.
The best hot chocolate by far that I have ever had!! Worth every dollar at the chocolate shop in the lane outside the market , next to shopology.
C.
Nice market, it’s located in a very beautiful area.
M.
Lots of variety. Lovely wine tasting. (Mischief) Is the brand. Lovely Pinot noir 2018. Nice looking donuts and good nepalese mo mos.
R.
Love the place ... love the foods ... love all coffees ! awesome place to be ... love it
C.
Best place in Christchurch to get your fresh vegetables .
B.
Bustling market, good food and drink options many good boutique stores and stalls.
N.
Love it , reminds me of the markets in Europe
H.
This place is my favourite food place ever!!! Such awesome variety and soooooo tasty!!! Seoul Tiger has the best Korean fried chicken I have ever had also!
***Highly recommend a visit!!***
m.
Very interesting place. Lovely to visit.
T.
Wonderful atmosphere, delicious aroma of foods from east and west, burgers, fish n chips, sushi, Turkish, fresh ingredients. Lots of spaces to sit up stairs too.
R.
Nicely thought out, great bustling market vibes with chilled out open decor. Brilliant to go to as a group because there's something for everyone.
C.
Interesting food in an amazing atmosphere. Try it all, we haven't experienced a bad mouthful there. It's all absolutely delicious. Try the cheese place, it specialises in amazing local cheeses from aged gouda, sweet and nutty, to an amazing fresh soft goat cheese (And I'm not usually keen on goat cheese!!!) You can try a lot before you buy and buy you will!
R.
I went with a friend not expecting much. Once I stepped inside I found I had underestimated it considerably. The lighting and colours create a unique atmosphere and there is a good variety of eateries as well as shops selling locally sourced produce. It is certainly worth the visit!
M.
Already planning my next trip. A great variety. Our family ate at the sushi train for $4 per any plate. Kids loved it! Then bags of candy from 'Sweet'... Great saleswoman there, she was magical w kids.
R.
Went to castro! Great staff and great food! Fantastic service! Well looked after
L.
This place is buzzing with people eating lots of ethnic foods, drinking craft beers, ben and jerrys ice cream. Amazing selection of nice fresh meats for sale and cured meats
M.
Great place, nice setup. Plenty of little stalls, worth a visit 😊
I.
Amazing selection of foods. Seating upstairs. Could just do with a few more specialist ethnic outlets e.g. Greek desserts
A.
Lovely place to have fun eating variety of food. Always nice to go there
P.
Great selection of stall holders with varied selection of goods.
M.
Fantastic. Great indoor food market with bar area upstairs
S.
Really Cool space. Purchased great food for lunch from the stalls below and took it upstairs to the areas to eat with wine & beer
J.
This place is so magical. Got so many choices and levels.
R.
So many lovely choices for food and treats. A bunch of small stores together all doing something a little different. A real feast for the eyes too. Gluten Free and Vegan options all over the place too!
R.
Always a great place to shop for those things a supermarket doesn't have.
E.
There's so much to choose from. There's something for every taste and dietary requirement. My sister is gluten free (celiac) and she can eat there, I'm a fussy vegetarian and there's lots of options. The quality of food at most of these places is awesome as well especially shakka bros and Dimitris !
V.
A fun day out. We met up with family and found room for us all to dine together upstairs with our very varied choices of food. The market could do with big signs out to the various streets as I seemed to be continuously lost. The food was amazing and we were spoilt for choice. The car park payment machine is a mystery to most but a nice old guy talked us through it.
H.
What an absolute buzz is this place.
Every specialist vendor creates food to an international quality.
Gets better on every visit
K.
Nice place. And not nice food price.
P.
Pretty hipster and pricey. But decent offerings.
J.
Love this place. Really great vibe. Plenty of choice. So good to see the improvements in Christchurch.
A.
Incredible! Very new, with a huge range of food and drink. Riverside Collective is a cool wee place with individual stalls, and there’s great coffee, restaurants & products throughout.
N.
What a place to be in town centre, well designed and you get most of thing in one place.
S.
Amazing indoor market with heaps of different food vendors :)
N.
Definitely coming back, the selection was varied and all amazing
B.
First time here snd wow great place , will be back
A.
Loved Riverside Market!!!!! We had a crepe from The Creperie, the owners were awesome and so accommodating 😍 the entire space is beautifully lit and the plantation was amazing. So many options from fresh fruit and veggies, bakeries and foods of all ethnicities. Will definitely visit again
J.
I and my husband had a nice time here.
L.
What a wonderful destination on a sunny Sunday in Christchurch. Different shops, great food options and a real family vibe. Great to see a city being built for people!
K.
Great food options and to experience.
D.
Absolute attack on your senses, varieties of delicious food on every stall with amassing taste, incredible smell which is hard to resist and all looks fantastic!
Also great atmosphere and places to sit and relax.
E.
Great variety of food, a great place to go with friends, family and kids.
A.
Ate at Buon Appetito and OMG.
Delicious, tasty , spot on portion sizes and so tasty.
Didn't hear from the family while they all ate up.
Recommend highly. 💯👍👌
J.
Awesome "Live" music downstairs. Not enough seating downstairs. Food was beautiful i had Mexican tacos absolutely fab. Def worth going in to eat to sit n listen and smell all the wonderful different flavours of each food place. 😋💯 you jst cant decide everything looked great to eat.
D.
A lovely lovely area with a delicious assortment of food options and snacks. Love the local products too. I could sit here day - the atmosphere was great
O.
Huge selection of food. Great atmosphere.
P.
Bustling space with yummy pastries, coffee and fruits...
V.
Great atmosphere loved spending time at the downstairs bar with Chris the owner and Patrick. They stock a range of boutique craft beers and other options, it's always good to have barman with some knowledge to assist you with the right beverage. Called into the The Little Fish Co to collect a fresh fillet of Tarakihi to have with salad at home for dinner. A great way to spend the afternoon. Wonderful asset to our CBD.
P.
Mind blowing good 👍 amazing foods and specially foods.
m.
Very relaxed atmosphere and a great flat white.
K.
Crazy 🤪 place to be as there were too many people in one place otherwise I could like it.
N.
Love, love, love the vibe and the look of the market. Many options to eat and enjoy a moment in the city. Would love some more vegetarian and vegan options as well as clean toilets.
A.
Very cosy interiors with cafés, bars and stores to get veggies !
S.
Great place to go for different options of food all in one place. Great on a sunny day but very limited seating on a rainy day.
N.
Really great atmosphere epic well worth a look
L.
I wish I had more time to explore. This place is awesome.
t.
always visit here . so much wonderful food
C.
Probably the best place to have lunch and dinner in Christchurch. Such a large variety of places and tastes. I like the design and the energy is very nice.
R.
One of the best casual places to meet and eat in New Zealand!
D.
We didn't make any purchases but a busy place with cafes and bars. Spotted a couple of organic stores.
K.
Always love the hustle and bustle of this busy week place
D.
Charming selection of small boutique shops, staffed by friendly, helpful people. Well lit, not too loud and smells enticing. Options are fairly food / drink centric and some potential annoyances with credit cards not being accepted everywhere. Absolutely worth a visit if you’re nearby.
P.
Good place if you are unsure want for a meal and if you with few people and can't agree on what to have this place will cater to most tastes
S.
A very nice place!
S.
A wonderful asset for Christchurch, it has a great atmosphere with seating to enjoy time for a superb coffee and food, before going on to shop at individual stalls. The greengrocer had beautiful fresh fruit and vegetables, with other traders offering a large number of different or unusual products that aren't available at supermarkets!
M.
The only people who would review this place any less than five stars would only complain about trivial things like “it can be too busy at times” or “no convenient parking”.
This establishment is stunning and the range of food options is incredibly vast. I was blown away on my first visit and continue to come back for more. A true gem of Christchurch City.
M.
Recently developed market in Chch CBD. Must visit on weekend, amazing vibes and great food! #nightview
t.
Always a great place to pop in for coffee or lunch..love this place
K.
Lovely, but extremely busy today (was a rare sunny winter day). Huge choice of food outlets, long queue for Dimitri's though 😢 luckily there were plenty of other choices. A bit expensive, but a very cool place. 😊
P.
Best ever bacon & egg roll at the Butchers Mistress - my friends steak sandwich was tasty too, with the steak perfectly cooked and very tender. Welcoming staff got us coffee from next door. My new fav!
F.
Good shops and lots of seating inside and out
J.
Very modern industrial chic establishment serving a diverse range of food & drink options with patisseries and cafés
L.
Great food options and cute shops
H.
Looks like London. Beautiful with lots of good food.
T.
Such a cool vibe in this place, great range of vendors.
J.
The atmosphere and liveliness of the place is so good. Food and culture is amazing and incredible staff service from the shops all around. Only a shame that it is next to the courts where a lot of degenerates seem to hangout. But nevertheless you won't get much of that it you are on certain sides of the building or inside.
J.
Awesome concept of quality eateries and vendors.
Great atmosphere, spoilt for choice - Butcher's Mistress burgers and crispy potatoex to die for!
H.
Pretty good selection of food and drink vendors. Gets incredibly busy on weekends and holidays, so avoid from 11am onwards if you don't like crowds during these times. Kaiser is nice for a beer and a catch up with friends, El Quincho is nice for a romantic date if you're both into meat, and Dmitri's is always good (but has no in-store seating). Riverside is a really nice example of post-quake city development and it's really adding to the character of Christchurch.
T.
Often crowded, chaotic, and a bit overpriced compared to outlets outside the city centre and farmers markets, Riverside nevertheless has a good range and variety of products.
C.
I'm very impressed with the Riverside market. like all new builds it had the potential to be cheesy and tacky but I think it's been done exceptionally well, lots of use of reclaimed and recycled materials. they have got the feel of a traditional indoor market very well. And there is a plethora of both genuine food retailers and also restaurants and bars. I can thoroughly recommend a visit.
J.
Awesome idea. So many botique places and everyone was friendly. Couldn't see an elevator to get upstairs (made it difficult for my pregnant wife), and the disposable containers etc isnt great when it all has to go in the bin.
M.
We love coming here, for lunch, dinner or just a relaxing walk through town. You'll always find the perfect treat!
G.
Good food and nice environment
P.
Riverside market was amazing lots to see, full of small shops to look around. There are also a fabulous selection of eateries, combining all sorts of variety. I thoroughly enjoyed my experience there. Thankyou Christchurch.
D.
What a gorgeous place. Awesome vibe and plenty of choices. Loved it
P.
good place to eat with variety of foods
just don't come in rush hour or will have to wait a bit
J.
Five stars for the Butchers Mistress. Beef brisket was divine! Generous serving of real food that was beautiful with a great host.
We have also enjoyed the meat selection in the butcher itself.
A.
I loved my experience in here so.many shops and eateries packed into one place, for a real review I'll have to go back many times, but that's also the mark of a great place...
F.
World class venue, great vibe, lots of food options, very cool. Also good value. We ate at the Sushi Train.
i.
Loved it. Great vibe and shops
P.
Enjoyed our first visit. Nice atmosphere. Plenty to choose from. Lucky we got there early (11.30am) for lunch as the place packed out by midday.
C.
So much variety. The Mexican was superb!
a.
Great variety of food, great service🧡
C.
Very, very cool. I wish Wellington had something like this.
P.
Awesome place....a must see in central Chch
M.
Very cool place to shop, amazing displays and food options. Will be back for sure!
R.
We stumbled upon this market and we are so glad we did! A large and cozy building full of high quality food vendors, goods / produce sellers and restaurants. Heaps of different options (I.e., crepes, bakeries, ramen, salads, Turkish, bar, juices etc) and a great atmosphere, particularly on a Saturday morning.
L.
Loving this place. Best not to visit in the weekend, the wait for some food stalls is really long. Must try "Canterbury Brewer's Collective"
L.
Good place my kids live the two dollar shop there
R.
Great buzz in this spot. A lot of awesome up and coming eateries and some more well established like Shaka Bros by Bacon Bros. Cool just to come for a wander as well eating and meeting people. Highly recommended new spot in Christchurch that's a should see.
K.
Great place, but possibly The need for younger person options. But we'll worth a visit and meal
P.
Very busy central town eatery. Lots of choice is great but difficult if eating with a crowd all wanting different dishes. Lots of seating available upstairs. Toilets were clean and well maintained. Lots of people but handles the numbers well considering.
N.
A feast for the eyes, there's an incredible range of food from all around the world. Tried as much food as we could before we couldn't take anymore and there was still so much on offer. Very busy and thriving, there is an upstairs dining area with elevator access, which was also very useful. If you're in Christchurch, don't miss out on visiting this market.
B.
Friendly staff. Great to find GF options.
R.
The food selection is great! However, once again, the design makes the openness quickly disappear into claustrophobia as the lines clog access, entries, and the footpath.
It is the old 5.00 pm rush as, believe it or not, most of it closes by 6pm!! In the summer?!?!? Went for an evening meal there ... Went elsewhere as most places were closed....
R.
Loved it and plenty of tables upstairs, highly recommend the Malaysian food but it all looked good, hard to choose
S.
We are so lucky to have this market in Christchurch, it is a great place to go to for lunch or dinner. With so many food options it can be quite difficult choosing which dish to have! The only thing I don't like is the background music as it is too loud and the building can get pretty noisy.
C.
Lots of places to pick from but very small and was so many people
D.
Interesting place with food outlets and shops. I think some of the shops are overpriced but others are ok. I bought a loaf of five-grain sourdough bread... delicious. The Mediterranean Food outlet has reasonably priced Italian food. I got pasta, canned tomatoes and passata, all well priced. I'll be back!
K.
Great atmosphere. Was looking for organic and sprayfree produce but none available which was a shame. Not a big selection of vegan and gluten free but Indo Tempeh in the Riverside Market never fails to please 😍
Y.
Wow wow wow! Go Christchurch! This market is amazing! It has many different eateries catering to many different preferences. I loved it. Walk around and have a look at all the different options and then take your meal and find a seat. I found my old favorite chicken souvalaki and it tasted amazing! Coffee was really good too. Highly recommend to everyone to pop on down to Riverside Market!
C.
Enjoyed the setup, variety of choice and the fare.
P.
Amazing market with so many food variety and shopping, I loved the location and whole environment of the market and I didn’t felt any kind of racism even, people in Christchurch are so humble and kind...I love it
M.
Very good place to eat for those fussy groups or couples out their budget and not budget great range of foods and particularly a cool vibe but if you don't like people or seats not the place for ya
D.
Great selection of cuisines and seating
C.
The bustle and vibrancy of the Riverside markets is a credit to the people working and operating there. Very much a must visit. So many food choices and every one delicious.
J.
Great relaxed atmosphere and selection of local boutique craft beers. Chris certainly lives up to the title of "The Beer Man" and is passionate about the ale's on tap.
B.
Very, very busy the day we went. Do not bring children or short people here when busy. Not a lot of thought has gone into crowds... Queues across exits, no real flow. Lots of different foods.
C.
Things don't open fully until around 10-11am. Otherwise, good selection of food and market goods. Market extends to outside.
Really good atmosphere and great to browse too.
N.
Great place an alive of uniqueness.... A dive of activity
L.
Awesome eateries and great atmosphere all around.
R.
Huge variety of quality food to eat outside.
B.
An awesome new attraction for Christchurch. A huge selection of dining options as well as fresh produce available. The only downside is that it is so popular it is difficult to find somewhere to sit sometimes.
J.
Loved the food and the atmosphere 😊👍
M.
Great lil bottle shop and love the vibe, lights, new mixed with old but just a lil outta my budget to buy meals experience fully...v.handy for me as at least bottleshop stays open till eleven on weekends&if it's closed guy at superette will open for you
H.
Super cute market lots of food places to check out. Store owners were very friendly and got chatting with a couple of them. Wish I had gone earlier in the day as it was pretty quiet when we arrived and some shops were closing up early.
Over all fun experience ♡
S.
Tons of interesting little outlets, something for everyone here. Tight squeeze when busy, best to get what you want then go chill by the river. There's seating upstairs if you prefer to be indoors, but no electronic food ready system so you kinda need to be organised. Good fun though.
A.
Really vibrant and has a great selection of food and drink. Lots of restaurants and bars. Definitely worth a visit.
K.
Great vibe. Went on a Monday around 2pm, busy but not claustrophobic, excellent range of goods and helpful smiling people. Love it!!
J.
Highly recommend any of the food stalls here
A.
Fantastic spot with international cafes, local artists, just like some of the best food markets overseas!
S.
Great atmosphere to enjoy your lunch
f.
Frankly wouldn't rate the place, crowded, smells and not my sort of place. Having said that there are some great places to visit with genuinely great people who have product and services worthy of your attention.
l.
Awesome selections of food
A.
Great atmosphere, lots of selection. Buy interesting food to take home or get something to eat at the many cafe and specialty food shops. Recommended.
M.
Great addition to the CBD. Built from high quality materials. Highly recommend.
J.
Love the concept. Beautiful building. But more like a food hall with a few, very few, produce stalls. Expected something more like Vic markets in Melbourne where locals would shop. But not! Must try tapas downstairs in the little house of tapas. Pulpo was delicious as was coca outside on footpath with a glass of wine.
A.
Had breakfast at the butcher's mistress. Very entertaining staff member gave us great service and wonderful food. Would definitely go back again.
S.
#castroschch Lunch at Castro's Spanish Restaurant. Love it
D.
Riverside market is beautifully constructed and crafted for the hungry souls and the mediterranean market is every chefs or home cooks go to must visit when in Christchurch 🔥
D.
A local friend told me about this place, which recently opened in Christchurch. Amazing market with a great selection of food.
We came in a Saturday evening and grabbed Greek and Thai. Always great to be able to ha e a broad selection of food to share together.
s.
Variety of food stalls, souvenir items, ramen, gemstone shops, fooood and foood. Did i say food?
J.
Not a bad place to meet friends. You can always find some thing nice to eat. Friendly staff all over.
K.
I love this place. So much choice and great to support local products and producers.
R.
Lovely spot for dining indoors or outdoors. It has little stalls as well as proper sit-down restaurants offering a variety of cuisines.
D.
Great choice of food outlets.
K.
Good variety of good food in a very pleasant indoor setting. Have a look upstairs too, as there is seating and additional food outlets. If you would like some alcohol with your meal, you will need to get it upstairs.
A.
It's alright, but there's no nice brunch places. Thought there would have been something open around 10am but it's just a couple bars upstairs and lunch food (burgers and souvlaki). There's a crepe place but again, casual dining...
T.
Very impressive,a great addition for Christchurch
D.
Cool place, like it loads 👍
M.
This is my favourite place to go in Christchurch - love it
R.
Amazing collebtatve space of food and outlets , strolling around watching and smelling the senses is great on any day .
I.
This place is beautiful, a new addition to this city the riverside market brings it's own flavour and adds colour. With many famous food spots like Dimitri's, Mediterranean food co., Bacon Bros, Hikari and to top it off with Ben and Jerry's this place is ideal for lunch on a good day. It's got excellent views and there are plenty of seats on the second floor but can see it filling up when more stores get added in the building. Parking is a bit of a hassle but found out The Crossing is the cheapest at $2 for 0-2 hours but it's about a 5-7 minutes walk. If you haven't tried this place out yet I definitely recommend you go and join the experience!
t.
Love the lady who makes the amazing jewelry ... stingrays necklaces
Worth going just for unique one of a kind of amazing jewelry.
M.
Fascinating place with heaps of good food and quirky stuff. Good sitting area.
V.
Great variety here. Lots to choose from. Bars, food, fish n chips, momos, desserts, bakeries, freshly brewed beers. The sushi train was a hit with my 11 year old.
E.
Great atmosphere! Great choice if cuisine. Loved Dimitri's Souvlaki, yum 😋. Nice outdoor area and seating.
D.
Really awesome vibes. A great place to visit on my trips back home to Christchurch.
Incredible interior & exterior aesthetic. Awesome atmosphere.
The foot traffic can be a bit dense, but that's the price you pay. Amirite? I'm right.
M.
Love the variety. Plus great Dosas!
M.
Great space with amazing options of delicious food, drinks & local products. Could come back every week for a whole year & try something new every time. Love it!
b.
Ever visited an overseas city and discovered a location full of neat little alleys and markets with great food, coffee and atmosphere oozing from every corner? There's finally a place like that growing in central Christchurch! I can't wait for the area to be finished but I'll be visiting as often as I can until then anyway.
P.
Great place to wonder through to get ideas for cooking and gifts
M.
Love the hustle and bustle here. Great place.
C.
Take a ride on the fantastic Rayvolt electric bikes around hagley park
O.
If you're a foodie you should definitely visit there. Different cuisines. Good atmosphere. Seating arrangement on the second floor is pretty decent
A.
Great selection eateries and market shops great vine
K.
Great place full of amazing shops you can get all of whale shaped pretzels to freshly made savoury and sweet crepes in front of your eyes. All round amazing only downside is it is a little cramped. Love it!
D.
Fatastic food court with loads of variety. I stopped off at Vietnam alley and had a Pork Bahn Mi. It was delicious and would definitly recommend! Solid 8/10
T.
Wow, this is awesome. I love this place, and it is humming with people, great food, great coffee, interesting shops and market stalls with arty/crafty things. Cool place.
K.
Sushi Train lovely freshly made vegetarian sushi. The menu display a wide range of vegetarian, fish and meat dishes.
A.
A well designed market with boutique food and shopping stores which has something for everyone. I go there almost every weekend. There is always some show happening outside. So have a feed, sit outside next to the Avon river and watch a show. Do not forget to tip the artists.
G.
Been to Riverside a lot. Always a great experience
D.
Lots of great options, but avoid at peak times if you don’t like standing in line or not finding anywhere to sit.
M.
Wow this is what every city needs. Fresh food galore
V.
What a great find! We loved exploring this market. Almost any food you could dream of! Amazing
T.
Would highly recommend visiting Riverside Markets if you're in town.
Amazing selection of different food and drink outlets covering loads of different cultures as well as a great selection of local produce.
You will regret not visiting!
M.
Really excellent food retail.
T.
Visited these markets on a Wednesday enjoyed the experience but for a group of say 10 it seems impossible to find seating together , except for upstairs resteraunts which are a bit too expensive just for lunch.
All the eateries seemed small and jammed in. We might prefer little high or even bnz square with. Better
Seating . Not much seating except for a few stools in front of each eatery.
terry
L.
Gelato bar downstairs, friendly service and a good selection on offer.
P.
5 🌟 on getting the umbrella license. Awesome being able to sip beer and browse for fresh produce and try the wide range of food. My favourite place to go in chch.
J.
Honestly I'm a fan. Dimitris is perfect. Riverside cantina has frozen margaritas. The marketplace itself is great, especially the vege guy who is a champ, always has good veg and is super friendly. Avoid empire chicken though. That sugar in the chicken is just weird. Can be a lot too crowded, but not as bad as little high for crowds.
M.
Love the fish n chips!! Very fresh. Great place for Christchurch only disappointment is the lack of seating in the market feels too cramped up. Typical market atmosphere.
A.
Wasnt expecting Riverside Market to be so full and busy on its first day of opening. What a positive vibe from customers and sellers. A few places still not quite open, however that doesn't detract from it at all. Plenty of choices to eat, drink and shop inside. Thanks to developers! Bohemian Bakery served the best custard tart I have had the pleasure to eat!
M.
My husband and I go to the Riverside Market every Thursday, it's a lovely tradition and there's something for everyone.
H.
Came here hoping to find local produce & fresh food, but the shops mostly had a very limited range that didn’t seem much different from what you can find in supermarkets. Didn’t want to hang around as it’s so busy. If you can handle crowds however, there was a wide range of local eateries to get meals from.

Had a lovely catch up with my sister over a great cocktail and yummy snacks 😀

Very nice, can find all sorts of food, and the vibe is great. The only problem is that while there are lots of sitting places, the place is usually very crowded and may be a bit difficult to actually find a place to sit, particularly if you are with a large group of people. It is still worth trying it out and probably a must see if you are in the city center.

Great collection of food and drink to sample. Lots of variety and easy to walk around and see what you want to try. Very popular. Good to have seating outside in the summer sun!
