Reviews of New World Willis Street Metro
P.
Its surprising how this place is small yet doesn't feel that way when you go inside. Kind of like Doctor Who's TARDIS. Let's face it, you don't really go to the mini "supermarket" for your main shopping, it's mainly for local businesses lunches and essentials. Prices are what you expect from New World supermarkets; too high. Just a place to stop and get some gum... or your late-night quick contraceptive.
R.
They have an array of products in deli bakery and for lunch.
This is a great little supermarket they have surprising items that make shopping interesting. And for a New World there prices are competitive with any other supermarket. Full range of products for all of life's needs
Totally recommend. It is well laid out comfortable and always clean
W.
Excellent Supermarket in the heart of the Wellington CBD. New World's Meat Department is by far the best for fresh, quality cuts, and range of choice. The Bakery is superior to other supermarkets in the area as well. Service always friendly and helpful.
M.
Crowded but fantastic - the beautiful selection of gateaux, wine, bakery goods make your eyes big and wide and the staff are lovely.
T.
One of the best bakeries of the New World clan (the sausage roles are a standout), but being a metro has limited choice and higher prices of groceries. Good range of fresh fruit and vedge. The beer and wine selection is good and well maintained by the manager of this section given the size of the area. Great regular staff.
H.
New world is always my best shopping place. The supermarket itself is well decorated and warmly presents its goods. I like their bakeries, especially muffins. This metro branch is busy but organized. You don't need to wait too long get your purchase done. Love it.
R.
A huge appreciation post to everyone in your team during these lockdown fluctuations. I’ve observed a couple of challenging customers that the new world staff members have dealt with professionally and with compassion- above and beyond requirement - and I’m so sorry you have to manage this alongside feeding our communities. Many thanks and much gratitude.
C.
Bakery and ready to go food sections fantastic. Best cheese scones I've ever eaten!
P.
Love shopping here. Especially at the bakery. They have one of the best cake stands.
S.
As far as Metro stores go, this one is ok. They have a small bulk foods selection of nuts and snacks, and a fair gluten-free and healthy/organic products.
With all New World Metro stores, location convenience is offset by variety of products (limited) and price (often more expensive than non-Metro stores).
R.
A smaller version of the regular New World supermarkets.
Very easily accessible by walk or public transport.
The staff are very nice and helpful.
The initial look from the outside doesn't give the actual picture on how spacious and smartly stocked the interior is.
Almost all products are available, given the smaller size of the supermarket.
The opening hours are convenient too, and make up a good stop for a quick bite or a snack.
s.
Convenient. Has the stuff I am looking for usually, reasonably priced for an inner city convenience supplier. Appeared to look after staff and customers during lock downs.
M.
Good selection of groceries even though it's alert level 4. Prices are reasonable with good customer service.
W.
Busy, tidy and clean. Located on one of the busiest streets in the Wgtn CBD. Not a full on supermarket but have in stock most of what you need. No parking unless your lucky. There is a loading zone outside the store... don't park there.
M.
First time there which was a pleasant trip. A good selection of fresh vegetables and other groceries.
K.
Friendly staff, wide range of products, shop layouts is relatively easy to navigate. Gets busy so pays to get in early for their tasty pork pies or convenient lunch/ dinner meals.
s.
good little supermarket easy to get around.
T.
Easy access in the CBD area, most things are a little bit more expensive than the one at the sea
S.
Quick, fast and easy to get daily food needs.
B.
Good supermarket but one time they wouldn't sell me alcohol when I was completely sober, wasn't under the influence of anything at all was just in a very happy mood and they said I liked intoxicated
S.
A variety of fresh quick bites - don't forget to try their award winning cheese scone..!
a.
Always love shop here close from my work
S.
Handy little store with polite friendly staff
V.
Very tidy well presented store. I typically go in during lunchtime rush, but the line tends to move fairly quickly due to self checkout and large number of checkouts open
M.
Good selection, affordable! Nice staff :)
A.
A convenient place to shop for groceries and even get your lunch & dinner within the city. But the prices are more expensive than similar New World at the suburbs.
j.
Best supermarket in Wellington CBD area. Excellent bakery, fresh produce and grocery products. Meat quality is good. Enjoy my shopping there.
I.
Excellent range of groceries as well as different cooked foods also
S.
Very useful as situated at a location which is on the way of daily commute. This branch of NW super market is not big as that one near waterfront but not small also.It has most of things required for daily needs like fruits , dairy products, bakery products, flowers, etc. Good for quick shopping.
G.
I have a serious complaint... your jalapeño bites are too good. I think about them all of the time. They invade my dreams and I can't live without them.
Also the self-chrckout supervisor is amazing and has built a fantastic rapport given the nature of his work.
Keep it up, team!
P.
Good place when you want some top up supplies while at work. Aimed at people working or living in the city. No parking. Has everything including baked goods and a good wine and beer selection.
K.
Handy but limited. Not all weekly specials are available esp. from the frozen dept. Occasionally full price items are stocked in lieu of specials. Always have excuses for not stocking specials... definitely not a good practice. Staff always friendly and helpful. Keep it up.
T.
Good selection of stock. Convenient location. Prices good. Friendly staff and fast checkout experience to cope with high demand during commuting hours. The downside is the aisles are narrow, especially when it's busy but that's the price to pay for a wider selection of goods.
J.
Limited options, have I seen stock past it's best before date on the shelf so always worth checking.
However very convenient has a great selection of fruit, their meat however seems to be getting cross contaminated with gluten as I react severely everytime I eat meat that is not vacuum packed. The store also has wifi for customers so you can check products online
a.
normally has mango loco
h.
Good place for shopping
K.
Friendly staff, wide range of products, shop layouts is relatively easy to navigate. Gets busy so pays to get in early for their tasty pork pies or convenient lunch/ dinner meals.
A.
Handy supermarket for wine and nibbles (and lots more) when visiting this great city
j.
Best supermarket in Wellington CBD area. Excellent bakery, fresh produce and grocery products. Meat quality is good. Enjoy my shopping there.
J.
Handy if your in the city. Pretty good coverage of products for a small store.
O.
Ok. But a bit expensive and product range is limited
T.
Do All My Shopping dare
A.
Great to have a well stocked, easy to navigate and very clean Supermarket with friendly and helpful Staff- in the CBD.
S.
Good city centre supermarket with bakery and cake counter. Good heat and eat meal options. Lots of vegan and vegetarian foods. Expensive but convenient
R.
Smallish Supermarket. Ok for small volume shopping.
If big shopping, recommend Pac N Save in suburbs (if you have transport to take shopping home). Much cheaper
D.
It's was a little supermarket, but the things was so good.
A.
Looks like an ok supermarket, was only in for a short time and brought some store made fruit salad, why anyone would put great slabs of coconut into a fruit salad is beyond me!!?
C.
In the middle of the city center
The only groceries open in vicinity
A.
Great choice of food but I'm certain some of the prices in the shop are a little more expensive than some of the New World's around Wellington.
Still, the staff are great and the queue times are minimal. A stress free place to come to but groceries.
P.
First time ever going in here and wow could of spent ages looking around. Perfect for lunches when at work. When I went in during a lunch break the place was packed and so clean. Plenty of staff to help through the lunch rush. What a treat for those who live in town.
R.
They have a good service
H.
Mid sized central city supermarket. Quite xpensive, you pay for the convenience. Other than that, your typical New World supermarket.
T.
Big supermarket. Really busy at lunchtime and afternoon. Has a bakery and some other counters which provide fresh made food such as fresh pasta salad or rice salad etc.
It's a big supermarket with a huge variety of everything.
The cashiers are quick and fast and surprisingly very friendly.
The car park is a bit small but it's very local.
A.
Awesome staff, the best. I'm a regular and everyone's always welcoming, friendly and couldn't make my speedy lunchtime shop easier. Great specials too. Many thanks from an exceptionally happy customer 😁
F.
The not packing on the cashier solution is inadequately deployed. You leave with your groceries on a basket to pack "on the air"? As there's a single coffee table available for all customers after the cashiers. 😖
J.
For convenience, it's great when in town. Staff you see around but they in the past rarely interact, even when approached. Again however it's a pretty cramped store and you're always trying not to bump into someone. Personally I forego using the store where I can but occasionally I'll drop in for things.
M.
Really convenient place. Stores everything ... Great to grab lunch stuff. Has an amazing deli. Meat section is ok but small, not much range there.
P.
So easy to find things.
J.
Had to tell a staff member at self service, paper roll required changing. Attention to detail needs to be brought to the attention of management, during staff training and refresher courses.
S.
Open till 10 each day. Great inner city supermarket. Large selection of ready made foods for workers and tourists. Excellent bakery.
G.
It's always clean and tidy. Good bakery section. It is not a huge shop, and this limits some of the selection, but what is there is well chosen. The convenience of the location does mean that prices are quite high.
J.
As with most inner city supermarkets expect high prices. But there are specials and good deals to be had. Often a good selection of flowers. Lines are long at peak times but they move quickly.
T.
Way too small for the amount of traffic it gets also has limited selection, I understand it’s due to space but you’d think being in town it would be better. Checkout staff are lovely but the other areas could be nicer.
S.
High Quality Items at (mostly) Reasonable Prices.
Great pastries and breads. Medium sized (but sufficient) cold cut selection. Good fresh fruits & vegetables selection.
M.
Convenient, has a decent selection. Best to avoid going at busy times (around 5pm). I find they often have great deals on items that aren't usually put on sale at the bigger NW stores.
D.
Sort of like a mini mart, don't expect to find specific branded items you are after. They do stock most general items and necessities, but if you are doing a bigger shop I'd recommend going to a full sized supermarket like the City New World.
M.
My favourite city supermarket. Surprisingly spacious interior enables great selection of stuff. New manned and UN manned payment counters have sped up exit. Believe it or not, best selection of large cakes in the city.
K.
Small New World, but got what I needed.
O.
Ok. But a bit expensive and product range is limited
G.
Good range for a metro. Much larger than the nearby Countdown metro. Can get quite busy and it can be hard to walk around. I could imagine it would be extremely difficult for those in a wheelchair. Plenty of checkouts so the lines move quickly.
L.
I live on my own and I like that this supermarket caters to singles. Cheap cuts of vegetables e.g pumpkin and cauliflower. Meat section has great specials, I can spend $20 dollars on meat to last me up to a month easily.
I go to them only for my ciabatti in the x4-packs, I've tried other New World and supermarket stores and these guys do it best. This store is my go-to when all others fail. I don't go for the service, it's pretty average, I go for the products that only they provide to my satisfaction.
B.
Range is limited, as you would expect from a central city supermarket, however they have quite a large section of ready-to-eat foods. Range is quite upmarket. Gets very busy at peak times but service is still reasonably fast considering how busy it is.
O.
New World: The upmarket choice. Also slightly uphill from the cable-car Countdown. Is it worth it? Most of the time. Higher prices? Maybe a little, but not much. Bigger selection? YES. They have Vanilla Zero Coke. PayWave? Check. Alcohol after 10? You got it. ID all your friends? Party time!
D.
Perfectly designed for quick stops. If you can avoid the rush just after 4pm, you will be fine.
M.
A very convenient little new world right in the center of Wellington. You won't find many cheap deals here but it is still super handy and generally cheaper than a dairy, with much more range. Can get quite busy with long queues. Cellphone coverage drops out in the back half of the store but there is free WiFi.
R.
Stuff laying around, a bit to improve, good quality pastry, some of the workers friendly, others not that much. Good yoghurt variety, fresh fruits. Convenient.
P.
Good to have a supermarket in the city grab the things you need jump on the bus home easiest.
M.
Nice store, good selection and decent prices. Staff are nice and helpful. However, the entrance/exit is a design nightmare. Super crowded group trying to squeeze through a narrow entrance is actually really annoying.
S.
It's a good supermarket. But it also has an awesome beer selection and next level cakes in the bakery
J.
Good small supermarket 😌
P.
Good supermarket location & lots of customers.
n.
Was a great store to visit when working at a event in wgtn for the pass four days great food great customer service
R.
I wouldn't do my weekly shop there but great for popping in for anything and everything you need while on the go.
Queues can be long in this busy store but they tend to move quickly.
A.
Always busy here. Small but fairly well laid out. Good for grabbing food for lunch if you don't mind queuing for a few minutes.
N.
.
(06/2017)
Medium sized supermarket.
Nicely located on Willis street.
Good variety and normally stocked.
Well maintained.
Friendly and helpful staff.
Pleasant ambiance.
D.
It's not big... rather narrow and deep, but you find the necessary stuff and it's right on the main street in town.
Personnel was helpful a couple of times I've been there and the prices are OK.
k.
Used to go here and grab chicken and rice for my lunch reasonable price and quick checkouts never normally had to wait anything longer than 5 minutes and actually for a city shop had a wide and varied range.
J.
Handy if your in the city. Pretty good coverage of products for a small store.
m.
Good location if on foot, not the biggest range at this particular new world but it's handy
M.
Staff very helpful. Plenty of readymade food.
A great place for us when staying at an hotel when we're not wanting to dine 'in house' each evening.
A.
Great Deli/Bakery providing an awesome lunch range not normally provided at supermarkets. Alcohol area is fairly limited but has most of the popular range.
S.
Busy Place but good range of everything
A.
Its a compact central city store so dont expect a huge product range. The staff are helpful and they manage the throughput of shoppers really well.
a.
normally has mango loco
M.
As a visitor to Wgtn to find a supermarket that provided what I required for a short term stay, I was very satisfied. Weather could have been a little warmer but one should not complain as one is still living.
A.
Handy supermarket for wine and nibbles (and lots more) when visiting this great city
D.
Best place in I have found in New Zealand for lunches. They seem to have adopted a similar model to Tesco and Sainsburys in the UK; both of which are very popular with business people.
Need a few more of these around the country to reduce our reliance on unhealthy bakeries, and expensive cafes.
R.
Great range of all grocery items from baja to upmarket brands. Loads of quality pre-prepared fresh lunch and dinner meals available and the bakery is to die for!
R.
A great metro supermarket
A.
A New World in the city. Stocked most of the items that you needed, but only the commonly used/needed ones. Very small so the layout is a bit tricky and confusing. Their prices are quite dear, but this is the closest supermarket to the backpacking, apartments, and hotels area.
D.
Overpriced fruit and vegetables. Pssh. Do I look like I can afford fruit and veg at those prices?
Well... I mean... I can, but I need to go to a retro screening of Reservoir Dogs at the Embassy this week, so I need to get tickets. And I ain't payin' no 6 dolla fitty for a bag o' potayters instead of seeing a Tarantino filmm at the pictures.
No sir.
Thumbs down.
Unsubscribed.
P.
Very handy and has everything I need like bread rolls, snacks, yoghurt, fruits, luncheon, salads etc. Service is great and also self help checkout machines are available.
B.
Over priced, but convenient. The staff are not friendly. Lunch times and after 5pm are crazy busy. The queue will often circle the entire shop.
A.
Not bad supermarket, only thing is the street drunks coming up to you at the entrance saying "scuse me, have you got four bucks for the bus?" you know full well it will go straight on booze and cigarettes.
M.
Its a nice super market in the cbd.
A.
For a downtown Metro - brilliant; everything needed close by
T.
Do All My Shopping dare
S.
Nice little supermarket in busy Willis St. Got all the essentials and a nice Delicatessen area for fresh bread, cold cuts, cheese etc.
the beggers in front of the store are a bit of an eyesore... but at least they are well behaved and not aggressive
D.
You can find items that may be are missing from shelves of other supermarkets, however for the same item you may end up paying more. The service is not that friendly. The flowers shop is not open in the evening and no pharmacy is here.
h.
Good place for shopping
E.
Good selection and check out optimized for large volumes of customers. Aisles too narrow as they try to squeeze in as much as possible. Only go here when need to.
D.
I shop here quite frequently on weekdays, as it is very convenient for CBD workers. Staff always friendly and has surprisingly good produce.
J.
A great amenity in the centre of the city . It has everything you need for day to day living, and some lovely luxuries for entertaining as well.
B.
Great variety of goods and especially allergy related foods (I'm on a Paleo diet for medical reasons). Fast, efficient and friendly service too.
W.
Many a paycheck spent here. Hours are great, 7-11am can shop at almost any hour and you'll move through quickly
E.
Shelves are pretty close together but good selection
A.
Good range, wish you had more people on the checkouts. Hate self service ones.
L.
OK let me start by agreeing with other reviews that Metro is indeed a bit pricey compared to New world or Pak n save, however, the convenience of having Metro especially if you live in the CBD, you wouldn't mind paying those extra bucks for it
J.
Good selection, but can be pricey if you're not paying attention and wait times are extreme between four and six pm. Friendly staff though will recognize when you're a regular
M.
Experience and excellent service and food and good prices and cooked food is yummy and good selection of water drinks
Á.
Fairly extended express supermarket with all the regular goods and groceries you may need, but if you need to do large shopping, I'd suggest the larger New World close to Te-Papa.
L.
Good store, well laid out, super bakery and deli facilities.
Couldn't find my chokito bars:(
M.
Gets pretty busy at lunch times during the week. You'll bew able to find what you need though and bakery is delicious.
J.
This is a much larger store than it looks from the outside .Very handy to the Boulcott Suites Hotel
M.
Great product range and well layed out in a compact way Loved the Deli
K.
Mini matket in city centre. Not much stuff there + comparatively expensive than others
R.
New World Metro is pretty average in the supermarket product category, but is far better than Countdown which is the Jeremy Corbyn to New World Metro's David Malliband (or do I mean Ed?). Moore Wilsons is clearly Bojo. Also there's no cellphone reception out back. Perhaps the PPTA block it.
D.
Awesome service
Fast and easy
B.
Not really new world fan but this branch is great. Terrific bakery. Easy parking
J.
4/5 would buy groceries again. One time Matt Corby played. According to one source, has 3 different flavours of pancake mix.
M.
It's like my local dairy and bakery. Lovely range of snacks and baking not really sure about the fruits and veges though.
A.
Loved shopping here, not the cheapest, but never had any complaints. There fresh cut fruit is always very fresh.
M.
Small and busy but costly if it's your only supermarket. Ok for workers though and good hours of trading.
T.
Bit poaky, but a handy shop. Their fresh food/ sandwich deli counter looked like it would be great to grab lunch from if I worked close by.
R.
A bit crowded and not huge amounts available but it's useful and handy as I walk home
J.
No big line outside like the others
D.
Convenient location and wide selection. Gets very busy during rush hours. Difficult to browse the isles and expect a long queue around 5pm.
K.
Had what I had been looking for.
J.
Very nice staff, great range of food etc. Full credit to you all!
A.
Beautiful food, expensive but good looking. Very busy, but lots of checkouts
B.
Limited range due to the size and location of the store. Staff are friendly and the convenience is what really matters.
R.
Great location, when requiring a few grociers on way home from work
M.
Nice renovation. Like the new layout. Plenty of good options here for lunch. Beware though it can be very busy over that lunchtime period.
J.
Great little supermarket in the center of town. Nice product range, loads of choice and reasonable prices
C.
Puts Australian supermarkets to shame. A very clean, well stocked and upmarket supermarket that despite only being a metro could easily be the o ly supermarket you shop at.
D.
As a visitor it was convenient to shop for gifts of chocolate and flowers for friends we were to visit.
S.
Awesome local spot to grab a beer after work and enjoy some evening sun. Often had love music and always has a great selection of beer.
C.
Great little supermarket. Had all the things you would need. We where in town on a romantic break away ... everything we needed.
C.
Location and convenience alone would make this a 5 star. Only giving it a 4 because deals are never as good as Countdown
D.
One of my favorite shop, for daily shopping
M.
It's handy due to it's location but I'm starting to use Countdown on Lambton Quay more as their prices are more competitive. Regarding the service here, it's great.
M.
Store is not bad but less variety. Moreover it charges much more than other new worlds....it doesn't worth..
M.
Great location great variety fast service
J.
Great on the go supermarket in the centre of the Wellington CBD. Great range of food available and lots of selection for grocery even if it is a smaller supermarket.
M.
Nice place and you can find almost all your groceries here.Staff is very responsive and professional.
A.
Small but we'll stocked supermarket in the CBD. Recently renovated interior. Plenty of checkouts.
A.
A great supermarket. A lot of stuff are sold here: vegetables, meats, seasonings, bread, bathroom stuff, wines, all kinds of nuts
R.
Good place to shop. You'll find most of the grocery items that you need here.
J.
Good range of food. Very pleasant staff member served us. Would definitely go back.
M.
Convenient. Has most of the essentials for a small Metro shop.
Z.
Good range of products (including fresh vegetables, fruits, meats and seafood) at a convenient location with super nice staff.
A.
Pretty good quality, but slightly more spend than other places. A good go to place to get various things, even not food related
A.
Very well stocked & good place to go if you just want to pop in, grab some things, & pop out again
B.
Good selection of food, open until quite late as well. Prices were higher than other shops I've been to though.
J.
Always have the shelves stocked when I have visited. Good range of product.
D.
Central supermarket with good variety. Their bakery is good.
M.
In town so convenient. Seems a little more expensive but a great way to get essentials before or after work on your way home.
A.
Small supermarket, but expensive. Since the nearby Countdown opened up, it should be cheaper in theory. Very efficient grocery shop.
j.
The most organised and tidiest supermarket ever. They have amazing slices and bakery items too.
s.
Handy and convenient inner city shopping. Compact yet with a wide enough range of essentials.
K.
Really good selection of lunchtime food, nice store layout. 10x better than Cable car Countdown
C.
Just a regular grocery store, nothing special but they carried most things you would need.
A.
Like most other new worlds it's well stocked, has good quality produce, but is a bit on the dear side
P.
Not use to queuing outside in the cold wind. New World store was fine
R.
Out of the three metro type stores I have been to in Wellington, this is the best one. Possible to do a full weeks shop here.
P.
Great variety of quality products, and good location, cheers
R.
Great, little pricey, but that's expected in the city. Don't go between 5:30-6:30 unless you're prepared to queue for a long while.
D.
Bit pricey but good selection
J.
Great range of product for an inner city supermarket. More to it than initially meets the eye.
C.
Great selection of products. Prices are a bit expensive. They can be very busy at times.
J.
Good improvement from the recent renovations. Layout works a lot better than before. Pricing is typical of a Metro
M.
Nice place to walk around lot of café shop and a great variety of food of course excellent shopping
S.
Nice little supermarket in busy Willis St. Got all the essentials and a nice Delicatessen area for fresh bread, cold cuts, cheese etc.
the beggers in front of the store are a bit of an eyesore... but at least they are well behaved and not aggressive
M.
In town so convenient. Seems a little more expensive but a great way to get essentials before or after work on your way home.
P.
Good small super market in central location. A bit pricey but good selection of fresh food
T.
Clean, Good service and good quality products and competitive prices
m.
Open later than countdown yeah its cool
R.
I wouldn't do my weekly shop there but great for popping in for anything and everything you need while on the go.
Queues can be long in this busy store but they tend to move quickly.
M.
Nice place to walk around lot of café shop and a great variety of food of course excellent shopping
R.
Out of the three metro type stores I have been to in Wellington, this is the best one. Possible to do a full weeks shop here.
A.
Pro's - Good selection of fresh foods, helpful staff
Cons - A little hard to find if your unfamiliar with the area (under refurb currently)
S.
Great variety and range of products.
Foods all look very fresh and exciting.
C.
Great location ... handy little supermarket, staff could be a little friendlier.
k.
Weird layout. Expensive compared to other supermarkets. The self-chockout line is always very long and they only have 4.
A.
Good options and reasonable prices. It could be bigger and offer better prices on fruits and vegetables
V.
Well stocked, great selection, amazing hot food and lunch options.
P.
Reliable and efficient. Everything we want is there. Love to shop here
B.
Loved this supermarket. Great selection, high quality, lots of self-service checkouts.
N.
Good central location. Dont be put off by the queue, as they staff up and keep it moving.
C.
Nice and small supermarket. Wish they have more stock.
M.
It seems to have more deals and offers than other stores. You can also find good customer service.
