Reviews of Whanganui River Markets
F.
❤😋Great Location, Nice Vibe, Awesome Food, Buskers and really cool unique home made items. Eggs, Veges and Fruit, Herbs, Plants, relish, so much sweet goods, Woodfire Pizza, Ham Rolls, Hangi, Seasonal strawberries and whitebait fritters, Candles, Weaved Baskets, wooden toys, quirky lamps and heaps more. Only downfall is sometimes you miss out if that particular stall is having a day off but understandable 😁
C.
Beautiful spot, public toilets and filtered water available. I was prepared to park here overnight, as is permitted for Self-contained vehicles, but unfortunately, due to some people turning up and behaving inconsiderately, felt it necessary to move, as I felt unsafe.
k.
Super cute and so many options of stuff to buy
Dog friendly🐕
D.
Great market, great range of items and food. Bought leather bag, fun signs, dog treats and ham rolls.
A.
I love a good outdoor market. The Whanganui River Traders Market is right on the riverbank and close to the arts district each Saturday morning. A huge range of products made by local traders including coffee, baked goods, wood turning, clothing, deli food, fresh bread and more. Good atmosphere and great to support local.
J.
A gorgeous friendly market with a great vibe. Best way to spend a Sat morning.. A coffee & a treat to eat on the grass under the pohutakawas, watching the people have fun.
L.
We attend intermittently, If you want to be anonymous it's not the place for you. Some weeks there is more to see than others the setting is gorgeous the weather usually kind there are things to see a do within walking distance or scooter ride. Just wander and enjoy the video
J.
Super cool, found some funky face masks, picked up a new walking stick and the real berry ice cream is amazing.
C.
Great little riverside markets with the best local back to basics artisan bread on sale I've ever had. Good range of stalls, no junk, great hot food options.
E.
Great friendly atmosphere, I love seeing all the locals and their goods. I'd strongly advise bringing cash as not all stalls take card payments. A nice way to start the weekend, get some exercise and socialize.
G.
We love going, the river, paddle steamer, atmosphere, aromas and music, with people enjoying the whole experience with an amazing variety of goodies to buy and food to savour.... YES .....go and experience this market, it will fill your cup.
K.
A bit quite today. But then it is new year day
J.
Always worth the visit. Local hand made crafts and locally grown food. Art, crafts, artists, coffee and sweet treats. All beside the iconic Whanganui river. On a sunny day you won't get much better.
D.

Love the atmosphere and lovely hand made products by local small businesses.
A.
Small market with a lot of variety. Definitely worth checking out if you're in the area on a Saturday morning. My husband especially loved their easy to use waste reduction system (and I loved the gluten free sausages. Cheese was pretty good too).
J.
This is a great place to come for those special things like birthdays and gifts.
J.
Good range of food and drink and other bits and pieces.
L.
Great place to support small and local business. Also great for social interaction.

This is the best atmosphere Market ive been to. Great stalls and food. Buskers Steamboats Crafts for everyone to be involved in.
The Riverside setting tops it off.
A.
Great range of stores and products and local produce mostly organic. Bought a lot.
a.
Gorgoues wee place. Dog friendly, multiple food options and nice wee boutique stores.
B.
Good place to start a Saturday exploring Whanganui. Grab a coffee, stroll round the stalls. Food pretty good, though avoid the paua free paua fritters - go for whitebait instead. Stallholders friendly and good fun, and selling interesting stuff. Thumbs up, enjoyed it.
C.
Great nice to see people plus conscious of covid situation.
P.
A must visit for the family. A good variety of stalls to keep everyone happy, its our saturday morning go-to for hot, sweet floaters and what better way to keep warm on the side lines while supporting the kiddos at Saturday morning sports.
R.
A wide variety of food and other stalls. It will take you at least a couple weeks just to try all the different and very tasty food stalls. There are a lot of crafts for sale too.
g.
Interesting stalls. Good range of food to eat and organic produce.
T.
Awesome little market. Love the home made baking and such a variety of hot and cold food, fresh coffee, Crafts and plants. Vegetables too. Parking is limited. Take cash but eftpos is available too on some stalls.

I love coming back to Wanganui from Melbourne to visit this friendly vibrant outdoor market.
The traders are lovely the good eclectic and creative and the fresh bakery goods and cheese outstanding.

R.
Got a great fishburger and cinnamon buns. Gluten free treats and crepes also available. I-Site nearby and river boardwalk.
S.
I love our market's on the river front. Plenty of variety, lot's of food and coffee, friendly vibe. Often entertainment provided by busker's, and occasionally the brass band. Great place to wander around.
P.
The Market has been a regular part of my Saturdays since I moved to Whanganui over a decade ago. Its a great opportunity to connect with local businesses and food producers, and pick up regular purchases and special gifts. Crossing Taupo Quay can be a challenge, so make sure you hang on to young children.
P.
Wow! Loved visiting and spending some dollars at the market. A great place to meet people, enjoy a great breakfast and pick up some great bargains!
d.
Love these markets, something for everyone
G.
This market is a bit of everything. People selling local fruit and veg (more would be nice), local produce like soap and honey, food stalls and second hand goods. Much better than expected...
C.
Fantastic markets with artisans, organic and sun ripened fruit, high quality cakes, wood fired pizza and arty clothing stalls. A designate go to destination.
E.
Great selection of new and used items available. Only one thing I would love to see more off (anywhere) is a small sign that advises the passer by that a food trading place does have dairy free options available. I know they must be available as I saw them at a local "allergy related" show. This way you dont hold up people waiting in line to ask. Thank you in advance should you consider to take this on board
W.
An interesting mix of food vendors. I had the crepes from the crepe vendor. They were great.
It was a lovely atmosphere on the riverbank and worth the trip
P.
Very popular market. Limited parking nearby. A good range of food and craft stalls.
L.
Great spot for the family.
Largely a market for Arts and crafts, also a quick snack with a range of kiosks to chose from.
Followed by a stroll on the boardwalk.
Saturday mornings in Whanganui.
黄.
Small but lovely with bank walkways.
D.

C.
Love the amazing variety available. Didn't know what I wanted, but knew I would know it when I saw it. Sure enough, found it.
A.
Love this place.
Grab a hot dog, walk around and then stop and listen to the father and daughter (Maori) singing. Awesome!!!
Lots to look at, fresh produce.
L.
A great artisan market with plenty of good quality market goods and yummy food offerings. A beautiful setting by the river too with plenty of places to sit and watch the world go by. Well done Whanganui!
M.
Awesome selection of handmade products.
Prices are real not jacked up.
M.
Love this market. Local soaps, dog products, wood work, pottery, wood fired pizza, crepes, baking, clothes and plants are all regular at this market. Very dog friendly, right on the river. Stop at mud duck next door for coffee or walk up town and exlpore the streets after.
R.
Neat to find some stuff and catch up with people and eat some stuff 🧐
P.
Superb. Very nice crepes & a wide variety of other foods, drinks & local crafts
J.
Had a crazy delicious hot chocolate with vanilla marshmallows sprinkled with white chocolate
N.
A few good stalls and a few average ones
C.
With the sounds of music from an old organ truck and the paddle steamer drifting along the river there is no better way to spend a Saturday morning visiting the river market.
You are spoiled for choice in this lively market.
Original handcrafts by the artisans selling everything from arts, crafts, clothing, food and much more.
A great atmosphere so grab a snack from a food truck and meander through the market stalls.
Some have eftpos and others just take cash.
P.
Lots of bric-a-brac and handmade ware, beautiful space to visit on a sunny Saturday! Great food choices at the different stalls.
R.
Yep every Saturday morning great area for a market under big trees.
N.
A great variety of quality goods from the people who have crafted them. The woodturners are a perennial favourite, and there is a great selection of food stalls. There's often live music to lift the atmosphere, and a bouncy castle for the kids. Being set along the Riverside, there are lots of spots to sit and soak it all up.
p.
Outside shopping atmosphere at its best.
j.
Great location for the markets and a great set up. Great service and great coffee from two lovely ladies. Certainly made up for the lousy one piece of undercooked streaky bacon on my $5 bacon and egg bun. Very expensive bun!
P.
Nice experience, bought honey, bread, coffee, sausage roll, cake and a jacket for our dog... heaps more I could've bought... maybe next time :)
K.
The food here is great but they could do with some more stallholders, such as clothing makers.
A.
Great stuff for sale. Food, books, woodworking, clothes for people n pets, etc. Wonderful for the whole family.
C.
Loved the vibe and diversity of this market, although not a lot of fresh produce.
P.
Every Saturday morning from 8am until 1pm, this is an excellent market. Right on the banks of the Whanganui River between the I-site and tramshed all the way to the Waimarie Paddle steamer. A large variety of fresh produce and crafts. Lots of different food trucks. A vibrant atmosphere.
A.
Loved going to the Saturday farmer's market. Such a variety for a small town. You could get crepes, dumplings, sandwiches, samosas, or falafels, you name it! You can find local crafts as well as those supporting causes internationally. An absolute delight every time.
L.
I love taking our dogs and just enjoying our awa. Everyday is different, we meet up with other dog owners and check out the fishing while having a kai.
S.

A.
A wonderful market full of crafts, unique items, music, good (and cheap) food, and sweet desserts! I love buying local hand-made souvenirs and this is a great place to do it!
s.
So many different stalls, including some really interesting food stalls. Not all stalls were there when we visited between Christmas and New Year - so I imagine it could be even better!
J.
There's something here for every member of the family even the family pet. Get there nice and early to get all the bargins and while you're there why not try the very addictive floaters with your choice of butter or golden syurp, delicious. A must visit for any foodie.
W.
Great market, we had bought white bait fritter and pork ribs with rice 10/10
C.
the ambiance of the market, the regular store holders who recognize you. the variety of stalls. the dogs on leads, families, buskers.... just adds up to an amazing experience.
A.
I am quite possibly biased but the buzz at this weekly market keeps people coming back regularly, not only to buy fresh local produce, and the work of local artisans and artists but to enjoy a good locally roasted coffee , conversation with friends and the odd surprise or two. A gifted child busker, a dance demo or even a pop up magic show.Love it!
C.
Always a delight. The vendors change over time, so not everything you remember from your last visit will be there next time!
T.
