Reviews of Auckland Airport
A.
Perfect place where to spent the time before a departure or during the layover. A lot of options how to find almost everything. Souvenirs, food, drinks, or even some places for relax or nap.
Some of the restaurants have also the observation deck with wide windows so if you are a airplane spotter, then you will definitely love it.
M.
Not like what it used to be before covid. Most of the shops still remain closed. Less options for food. Construction work has been going for a long time they should finish it fast.
S.
They’ve had two years of almost no flights due to Covid but improvements have been low on the ground. Such a missed opportunity - this place should be amazing, the location is stunning. But no, the focus is on profitability, not Welcome to Aotearoa. So cheap chain takeaways ✅, clean toilets ✅ and seats ✅. Everything you’d expect from an airport but definitely absolutely nothing more 🤑
D.
Most up-to-date airport I’ve seen in awhile. Boarding pass and barcode for checked in bags gets printed by a smart machine. TSA is all automated with machines , the trays to stow carry-ons is automated. Huge duty-free shopping and an assortment of bar and restaurants to indulge in. Big Thumbs up Auckland.
A.
A mid-sized welcoming airport for an equally welcoming country. Customs is pretty simple and straight forward. Plus, the airport is the cleanest one I've seen in my life. A huge plus if you ever have to be there for an extended time.
I.
These days we can only enjoy domestic travel. Make sure to give plenty of time to get there especially during school holidays. Traffic near the airport always congested. There is ongoing roadworks. I can remember the roadworks started about 3 years ago. Still ongoing and not due when the roadwork will be complete.
A.
It's a bright, clean, modern airport, without the annoying crowds and hassle.
The international terminal is very well organised and easy to navigate, so no issues there.
The Customs and Ag checks are also relatively painless and streamlined, definitely one of the better international airports to visit!
But with COVID and all the staffing and supply chain issues, there are very few shopping or food options. However, everyone is very cheerful and helpful, and willing to do what ever they can to make the situation as pleasant as possible.
All said, a great place to start your New Zealand adventure!
P.
Another easy experience in the Domestic terminal. Large amount and varied selection of food and drinks available in the food court area and good seating as well prior to departure.
Parking here is expensive though..... if you have the time and inclination, one of the Park n Ride places is by far the cheapest option.
E.
Amazing experience, they were very thorough with my entry to NZ (from Melbourne) and at the same time professional, polite and welcoming. I am so thrilled that all stages of arrival scanned me for COVID they displayed their duty to protect NZ but also ensure I wasn't interrogated. I hope everyone who comes through to NZ are considerate, cooperative and allows these professionals to their job. Thank you so much.
A.
Great improvements since my last visit in 2018 with the renovations... The airport staff (in particular the security, PP inspection, etc. not the airline staff) are incredibly friendly, polite and always a pleasure to deal with. I always find the guys at x-ray in this particular airport so professional yet friendly that it relaxes all my nervousness about what I've packed for carry-on, missing flights etc. Duty free and stores also look much better than last time. Cafe and food outlets are probably the next area to improve as we had to get Macca's coffee as alternatives were shut or unavailable.
D.
As far as Airports are concerned, it's not bad. I do feel they are understaffed on the processing side though, as 3 rows for people is really not enough, given the amount of docs which need to be checked. 5 would be more sensible. This could very well change as the country opens up more. The Maori carved entrance arch was a nice touch though, very well done. If they had carved panels for the walls, even every few meters, it would really help :)
M.
Slowly but surely, this airport is coming back to life. It's still a bit uncertain driving in, with all the changes geographically and due to the Covid regulations but it's a nice feeling walking back in here. You can tell the people here are chafing at the bit to do their job and I was met with a lot of friendly faces. So, good on ya team!
B.
This airport is old. Feels old, looks old and doesn't give that vibrant feel modern airports overseas do. Even arriving with the plane taxiing, next to Auckland Airport sign the corrugated iron has gone rusty and looks quite badly maintained. Does feel like coming home, back to the good old number 8 wire. Staff are ready friendly, polite and helpful, the airport could just do with some well needed TLC and investment to get it up to the international standard. A larger variety of food shops would also be a nice touch.
A.
Really like this additional service from irelax, excellent service and products, and pretty enjoy this relaxation period during waiting time. Thinking about to buy one in the future!!!
C.
Love our airport. So good to be able to travel again. I can't speak highly enough of the wonderful Air New Zealand staff who took amazing care of my mum. Thank you
J.
Great to be able to watch aircraft from the road side viewing area. Does need public toilets installed.
Overall a great place to chill for an hour or two
P.
Flew back from Southland, flight departed on time.
Good seat, landed slightly ahead of schedule. Auckland Airport great, didn't wait for long for suitcase to appear
J.
Things are certainly improving. More food choices, although a healthy option like a salad bar would be much appreciated. Our flight got cancelled, so we had a 5 hour wait, but we once experienced a 16 hour wait, so nothing could possibly be as bad. The lavatories were very well maintained, and the terminal was very clean and tidy. I needed some help at the information desk, and the 2 ladies there gave me excellent help. You could sense they really wanted to assist me, so thank you, ladies.
G.
Every experience I've had here from domestic to international has been varied in enjoyment. There's a good number of eateries in the main lobby of the domestic terminal and more restaurant styles in the international. But then you've got wifi that barely works, if at all, which really puts you in a hard spot if you come in as a visitor without a SIM card ready to go. After getting through the light domestic security, there's really nothing beyond that I feel, but there's always the lounge there as well as another for international. Parking, ride shares, and buses are generally accessible from either terminal and there's shuttles in-between but there may be a bit of confusion trying to find where to go.
S.
Just stopped by the airport on my way to Auckland. Was a great sight to see except there was too many beeps and bloops from announcements. Could only give it a four star because of that.
L.
Be prepared- if you need to get to the international terminal from domestic give yourself PLENTY of time! It's a good 10 minute RUN with a trolley, as I discovered yesterday.
BUT Air New Zealand staff are AMAZING!
M.
The international terminal is one of the best in the world, with large open spaces that are beautifully designed in modern style.
Getting through security and customs is a breeze (both coming in and out). You can shop till you drop, there is plenty of variety. We recommend a swing by the Whittakers chocolate shop and picking up some incredible flavors.
In terms of food, they have every variety from Chinese to Mexican to burgers and pizzas to a whole lot more.
It is a huge airport, go to your gate area first so that you know where it is, and then wander around.
J.
Auckland Airport was great, with a huge variety of stores to pass the time. Nice and clean with fast food restaurants to choose from. The toilets were clean, one of the best parts of the trip. They've really stepped up, and the airport is huge, lots of space. The staff were all friendly and we didn't have to wait long for our trip, great customer experience and awesome atmosphere all round.
Y.
Nicely existing in a simple way of accessibility inside and clean environment. Helpful staff but strict security measures.
L.
At Auckland Airport the International terminal is separate from the Domestic terminal. Follow the green line painted on the footpath to go between the two, a five minute walk. A shuttle bus is also available. There are many interesting shops to see if you have time. Have to fill the form before you arrive.
K.
I have fly to Auckland on more than five occasions now. I am not to impress with Ty his airport it was very old and run down. It has been over five years since last time I was there, but on the occasions I was there my experience were not good. I mean the location of your airport is in such a bad place. It’s such a long drive to get into the Auckland CBD, I mean that’s were all action is.like every other airport everything in the airport is over price.
D.
Auckland Airport is a tale of two halves. An international terminal that has received extensive investment and provides a great experience and a domestic terminal that dates back to 1966 when the airport opened and has been the subject of numerous piecemeal upgrades since. The ground floor jet gates (pictured) are the worst of the lot and the long promised joint international & domestic terminal has once again been put on the back burner due to the pandemic. The domestic terminal is now amongst the worst, if not the worst, in New Zealand.
G.
Fantastic modern airport especially in the international terminal. The domestic terminal is undergoing a refurbishment programme and will be as good as the international one when completed. Up-to-date check-in machines make the process easy and quick. Insert passport, answer a couple of questions and hey presto your luggage labels and boarding cards are printed. As with any other airport you will find a duty free area and lots of shops and cafe's. You also get 2 hours of free WiFi if you log in and the toilets are the best I have come across in any airport. The only downside is it can be quite a hike to some of the departure gates.
Z.
Going through immigration takes one minute. Going through baggage check, one hour unless you are privileged with New Zealand passport. This is humiliating, very discouraged from travelling to Auckland. I can imagine it's tough moving that many people, vehicles, planes, staff around. Keep up the fantastic job, a very fast paced job I can imagine. We love visiting Auckland Airport. Even just to pick people up :)
J.
Flew domestic to Nelson, easy checking-in, terminal wasn't overly busy, café/bar close by, good service. Pleasant flight.
N.
Due to COVID, no person is allowed to go in.
But they are allowing one support person to go with the passenger.
I.
I cant praise your staff enough. We recently traveled from Auckland. My wife is disabled and we needed some help. One of your orderlies really pushed the boat out and helped us, insisting on taking my wife in her wheel chair to the gate. He couldn't have been more kind and helpful. Bravo!
R.
It was not bad, I've been through here a lot. Today the baggage claim was very prompt was walking out of the terminal within 10 minutes of landing.
It's very quiet these days, really fast through security, plenty of space in gate lounge for social distancing
R.
My second favourite international airport. Rich with culture and diversity of conversation, it's a warm and welcoming place to New Zealand. Food is fantastic as well.
M.
A bit slow nowdays duo covid and tehre are a lot of checking which is good. For everyone passenger needs test so make sure you have test not older the 3 days for your trip.
Airport staff is very welcome and ready to help.
G.
Very nice airport with a mixture of old and new sections. The international terminal is a beautiful brand new and very modern building with great services. The domestic terminal is also a nice but older building. In general, it's a great airport.
s.
Wow just wow, virtually empty due to covid, very eerie, everything seemed clean, everyone wearing masks, lots of hand sanitiser available, one food place open taking full advantage of that with very high prices for food (felt like it was higher than normal airport prices)
K.
Love this warm-welcoming airport. Kia-ora is what they said to welcome you as a guest of this country in Maori language. The airport is not big, so I kindof walk around covering the whole place. Check-in for International flights is on the first floor, while immigration, restaurants, cafe, and duty free shops are on the second floor. The officers open many many counters to support passengers during peak hours and that's quite productive. Lastly, there are not many gates, so, being confused is not a problem and walking to your gate is quick as a wink!
J.
Arrived at Auckland for MIQ as travelled from UK. Transit only. Protocols for quarantine strictly followed. A snack was provided by Air NZ while we all waited for the transfer flight to Christchurch. Well organized so obviously well practiced.
K.
Always accessible to anyone who has been using the airport for either pickup or drop-off, always increased the infrastructure there and the parking facilities with the lot of eating hubs....
L.
Went to platform to watch planes. Good free place to go for people. Take some food and enjoy the scenery
G.
Parking was a breeze & navigating the facility was easy.
My inbound flight was delayed due to poor facilities at Houston International (worst airport I’ve ever been through) Air New Zealand jumped to the pump & treated us like kings knowing our flight was going to be late) Upon arrival (20+ hr flight) Air New Zealand met us at baggage claim & made sure with help from the stellar airport staff that we processed through customs control with ease. Good show guys that how customer service is done. 🤘🏻
My outbound flight went off with out a hitch. Processed through customs quickly & was shopping for last minute souvenirs with ease.
A very clean & well kept facility. Looking forward to coming back.
D.
Parking is a nightmare right now. And the border staff don't understand that a kiwi vaccine certificate is legitimate for a permanent resident.
F.
A good airport, for many the first steps on New Zealands ground. The people before and after customs declarations are all very friendly, the people of customs declarations and imigration themselves are also friendly. The airport is easy to overlook and parking is close by. Good hotels are nearby.
E.
Big airport.Buses outside main doors to Auckland city €17 each, very easy & convenient. €35 taxie Auckland city.
D.
Came in to Auckland today very impressed with the people working in customs a pleasant 👍 experience for what could be a difficult moment.
D.
This is a terminal that we have visited, sending the kids for holidays in overseas, picking family and friends flying in from overseas. Parking is not an issue here but the parking fee is a bit expensive. We like the ambience and the interior design of the international departure terminal. Today we are send off Yang Zhou Qing and his Mom home. @davidlim, #davidlim
M.
So quite due to covid lockdown.. Only one foodstore is open. Cleanliness is maintained...
n.
Really nice airport. We have to wait for 6 hours but actually have time to do all our business and walk around a little bit. I didn’t seems as bad as I tough
J.
From arriving with my trolley of luggage to boarding the plane it was top quality service, facilities & personnel. 5 gold stars warranted
A.
I suggest that traveller's review travel clearance and declaration rules from the web site as there are few restrictions on hand luggage carried quantities of honey and some other items. Otherwise all good friendly and very helpful staff.
H.
Just went through security at the airport in Auckland, New Zealand. It's extremely well designed for efficient screening of departing passengers. Every airport in the world should adopt this design.
j.
Nice airport at least got to go to another country even if I didn't get to set foot on the ground outside I was there it was nice will take a trip there soon it is on my list it looked so lush and green wow can't wait to get there for real real. Took a few pictures of my trip
B.
Auckland Airport is wonderful airport that feels like home, despite being the largest and busiest airport in New Zealand. Air New Zealand has a wonderful long-haul experience to get you there if you are traveling from far away. The airport is a great place to take in a sunrise while trying some local food items while you shop, such as Manuka honey. Auckland has a number of interesting things to see such as the Sky Tower and Rainbow's End theme park.
M.
Not the most bustlin' airport.
It's a 10min walk from Domestic to International terminals.
Most the seating's at the food court area.
Hopefully the Whittaker's shop is open when you're passing by...
C.
International Terminal is one of the best in the world. Large, open spaces, lots of stores and food and convenient security. Domestic Terminal is currently under renovation but did the job for me, the Maccas is fine and there’s enough space to walk around. Overall, one of, if not, the best airports across Australia and New Zealand that I have come across.
L.
Immigration process was quite fast though the bottleneck seems to be the declaration of prohibited/restricted items. Staff were friendly and helpful.
J.
Fly in and out quite regularly and Auckland Airport simply hasn't kept up with demand. Flights are regularly filled via bus as there is a woefully small amount of airbridge capacity. This usually means you can expect your flight to be a minimum of 30 minutes late.
m.
We arrived there at 1am.. alhamdulillah we prepare everything as told by few friends interm of foods & medicine and we can enter nz without any problems.
Credit to this airport by providing small space for muslim prayer room, clean also fresh toilets also bath room for us to make ourself comfortable while waiting for our transport at 8am..
They also provide i-site where u can make free call to your transport agent to arrange pickup from airport to your car rental station.
I also bought vodafone sim here & they help me to install the simcard.
J.
Good facilities and experience but can get better to compete against other international airports. Lot of maintenance works currently happening as NZ is not open to the world yet after covid and hopefully all these maintenance works will finish before then.
T.
Smooth transit thorough the airport. We declared our walking boots and had a little wait while they were cleaned and disinfected! It's difficult to feel any upset about the extra slight delay when the purpose of preserving the native ecosystem and wildlife that makes New Zealand so unique is the reason for the delay. Really friendly staff throughout the airport. A great welcome to the country.
R.
Ample parking during times we went (midnight!), and many of the coffee shops are still open. Heaps of taxis and busses (public transport) around, with helpful and most friendly people there to assist. We love Auckland International Airport!!
y.
Simple and not too fancy. Could do with a few more eateries given the volume of travelers going through it . If you want coffee, go to the Allpress coffee cart ;)
R.
Clean and crowded at noon.
Arrival zone has shops as another international airport and pre-paid SIM card available here before leave shopping zones.
Claim your baggages first then check your belonging with NZ customs officer. They needs your declare form and ask what you carry to NZ. Do not afraid just tell them the fact. After that another officer will ask you to open your baggage and check everything especially what you can eat. Answer their question with explanation.
Some food from airplane maybe illegal.
Honey contains in food is not allowed.
If pass this state, immigration is next. Some passport holders are allowed to the gate that faster.
***Press Like 👍 if helpful, Thank you ***
M.
An international airport with a shopping mall of shops inside. The people were nice, but the distances between gates was extensive and the chairs were not comfortable for sleeping during a flight delay.
J.
Nice. Well organised for Covid Protocols. Pleasant and friendly staff with stunning smiles.
Neat, clean and welcoming atmosphere
L.
Cafes too expensive. The divide between regional and main centres gives the impression that the main centres are more important
M.
Plenty of nice restaurants, bars and duty free shopping
J.
Pretty well streamlined for this covid malarkey. Friendly customs officers, well oiled machine (whether or not you believe these MIQ measures are necessary or not....).
P.
Good airport, with a runway bod enough to take the largest commercial planes. Separate terminals for domestic and international flights, with a regular free bus service providing the interconnection between the two. Not prone to fog or closures due to bad weather.
Access can be trying, there are two roads in and out and they can get clogged when it's busy. The only public transport option is buses, there are no trains or light rail. Parking is available, but it's expensive.
V.
Oh the excitement of landing in Auckland airport!! NZ was second on my bucket list of solo travels! I landed in Auckland airport on April 1st. As soon as you exit from the arrivals section, a 15 foot tall Dwarven statue greets you! It was such an exciting moment for me to see this especially being a big LOTR fan! The airport is huge with lots of cafes and clean rest rooms. I did feel there could have been a few more seats for passengers to be seated. There are information kiosks and the staff are very helpful.
L.
All very helpful at airport and my shuttle had me there with plenty of time to spare.
E.
Very empty due to covid. Only 1 restaurant was open, but it's pretty good.
V.
Smooth travel experience in every time 💯
S.
We were heading to Nelson..pretty smooth check in and once we found where regional gates were grabbed a coffee and waited for call... clean toilets...left on time!
Z.
Great place to enjoy a few hours extra time in the airport. Nice place, it even has a war plane to check out!
R.
Average airport, nothing special, nothing great. Airport staff are very pleasant, things aren't so great at the ticket counters.
J.
Nice clean airport, would be nice if there were more food options in the domestic terminal.
M.
The airport itself is ok, no major issues, nice facilities as every where, few shops around, nothing is missing, you can enjoy a quick break fast or a nice dinner.
To go through immigration takes too much time every single time, don't mind being check but we definetly deserve better service with all the tax revenue that goes in border protection ext.
Love the maxi dwarf statue replica that shows you that you are in lotr fans heaven.
R.
One of the best airports in the world. Nice and helpful staff.
Edit - August 2021.
Over the years, this has been a mainstay for international flights to and from New Zealand. The facilities have improved vastly as compared to our past visits. Although it doesn't mean that it was worse before.
Renovations are all high class and functional from a passenger's and employee's point of view. Staff are very nice and friendly. It is always a pleasure dealing with them. The team at the luggage x-ray check are always outperforming and nice to deal with.
A lot of new duty free stores are open now which enhance the overall experience. The new cafes and food outlets are improving too. Immigration staff are well mannered and considerate.
It is always a good experience visiting here as a passenger or for a quick pick up or drop off.
Highly recommended.
R.
Well structured and efficient passenger flow make this a relaxing experience for departure and arrival. Can be crowded and hard to find seats in the busy summer months.
g.
Great airport new age Custom screenings with easy photo identification systems. Nice and clean and very helpful employees.
K.
Although Customer Service was a little slow, they were still very professional and thorough with their work.
The airport itself was quite clean and offers a good variety of both food and shops to browse. One of the reasons why I always prefer to stay at NZ over MELB for overlays.
J.
A friendly and very efficiently run airport. No fuss, no bother and I was through in a ridiculously brief time. Of course it helped that I had filled out the comprehensive entry form and looked like an old fossil. I couldn't help thinking what a difference it makes when you have "the right people for the right job". There was not a superannuated prison officer to be seen.
M.
Okay airport. They do have free phones you can use which is nice if you need to call any car rental companies and such. The staff at the information desk is helpful.
W.
Easy access. Some roadwork under during low Covid travel but good directions and markings.
A.
The airport functioned well.
2 of our flights out of Auckland to Rotorua were canceled(1 in the afternoon & 1 the next morning) but we had ticket insurance & were put up in the Ibis hotel for the night. After our second flight cancellation Air NZ had a bus ready in 20 min . Only a couple of hours late but we were very happy how it all worked out. Well done.
J.
Immigration and customs was a breeze. Just make sure you don't bring in ANY food or outdoor equipment without cleaning it thoroughly first. Didn't spend much time at the shops or restaurants but they seemed ok.
O.
Very few people here
A.
A decent international and domestic airports. The customs area is a bit patchy: sometimes they're fast sometimes they're really slow. The custom officers - especially the domestic one - feels like they're god: while I was in the queue about to prepare my stuffs out for customs check, the guard order me to pass the guy in front of me because he was slow - following her order, I frantically get myself ready, and she told me off for not being prepared and for asking several trays for my stuffs!
T.
I had a bit of a wait so went Duty Free browsing and ended up buying a Kate Spade wallet.
That was the highlight of my transit through there (because I can fit my phone inside the wallet) as it was on special.
I spotted a weird item on the shelves, placenta cream....??
Anyhoo...like any other airport the food is expensive, unless you're getting Maccas or some other similar fast food.
G.
Accommodating, just need a tweek on getting their food area a little cleaner. But had a giggle at Mr Skelator who greeted us at Duty free ;)
b.
Domestic terminal same as other airports planes fly in planes fly out..all in all seemed clean & well kept...how ever some Air NZ baggage handlers are certainly not mindful of your property as my suitcase arrived smashed & broken. Nice lady in Air NZ baggage office was apologetic & helpful , arrangements made to replace the case at their expense was appreciated good on you air NZ, although my time & energy will be required to go and choose a new case, cant help feel the obvious neglect & disregard for peoples property will continue... If I or any of my staff treated customers property in this manner I think it wouldn't belong before I lost those customers. Unfortunately when flying in & around NZ you are stuck with little option.
S.
Great airport, quick checkout/checkin. Friendly staff.
C.
Well very quiet at domestic and international airport and new roads layout shops and warehouse are not very busy at all 😅
G.
Great airport and easy to find a SIM card vendor at 1f.
R.
I always buy me a nice breakfast in there befor my flight and i indulge in
A.
I've had better experiences in the past. Our flight was randomly selected for extra scanning so it was a bit tiring standing and waiting around. The upside though was once I had retrieved my bag and handed in my arrival card I was able to use the green lane
B.
Decent International and domestic airport with most things that you would need before departure like snacks or water. The international and domestic terminals are physically separate, about 10 minutes walk away from each other.
They have free wifi that only lasts for 30 minutes so handy if you have just landed and need to get into contact with someone.
There are shuttles that go to and from both airports as well as buses that head into the city.
L.
We're told didn't need certain documents online then we had to stand for 2 hours getting forms filled up but very helpful guy did it with us and even printed copies for me
G.
Due to Covid Level 4 understandably unable to access the interior of the airport building. However not great if you happen to be meeting passengers and wish to use the bathroom facilities!
R.
The effects of covid are obvious; no massive crowds or queues ... Unfortunately not a lot of outlets open for the hungry traveller to recharge at. Still EVERYBODY from Customs through to the SIM card girl who patiently set up my phone thoroughly courteous and welcoming. 10/10 for customer service and care. Thanks!
C.
Was there doing my international transfer on mid of August during covid 19. The international transport terminal was pretty much empty. Only me left after midnight.
R.
Only free Wi-Fi for 30 minutes. Friendly staff all around. The Air New Zealand self check in is wonderful, had a flawless experience.
k.
Fast check-in times for domestic flights .......great coffee☕

Frequent traveler between flights from NZ to asia and soforth. Airport facilities are well kept and maintained but the processing times before and after customs can be a real pain. Online check-in is really recommended and go to customs asap since you will be waiting quite a bit since New Zealand is a small country and the staff they employ isn't that much.
Customs are really a hit or miss because it really varies on the time of day and week of inspection.
They have quite alot of duty free shopping after security and at the time of review alot of it was under rennovation, there are quite alot of stores to look inside so don't spend once you exit security.
Overall a nice experience but could use a bit of touching here and there.
k.
Nice medium size airport. Clean and not too crowded. Some interesting structures, supposedly Maori culture.
I.
I only did international terminal! It was super smooth and quick process in both ways! There are good options for food & shopping too!
M.
Very well maintained. Clean. Good seating areas.
J.
Cant believe they upgrade the airport after one year transfer the flight. More shops and restaurants. Better to try the food here after you pass the custom, not just est fast food only.
O.
Amazing airport, could do with a couple more dinning and shopping choices
E.
If you start coughing loudly, you will get lots of personal space for yourself and everyone will stay away from you. Great for introverts! You may even get an free escort out of the airport or off the plane!
C.
Although all shops are closed, the duty free area has some open shops. This is after the security check point.
A.
I had a great all around experience here. Security checkpoints weren't as overwhelming and invasive as they are in the US, and the check-in process was smooth. There's a convenience store and some restaurants nearby in case you arrive early for your flight and need to grab a quick bite.
R.
As has been the case over the many years of flying around the country the Auckland airport has always served us well. When picking up people and you have to go inside the terminals the carparks are ridiculously expensive but you have no other choice. But the service and facilities are pretty good.
G.
The plane quality here was lovey. Smooth and clearly carefully greased engine. During the plane take off I could here the ficture click perfectly into place. Most satisfying sound ever in a plane. I would say the motor isn’t too loud, I did find it to be a bit crunchy in turbulence 😊 but what plane that size doesn’t have a bit of crunch during the rougher conditions🤷. I deducted the material of the inner plane was quality, I assume it was made from nomex honeycomb core, with some glass fibre pregegs. I would assume s-class glass fibres. For those lesser plane people, class s = higher quality. I had some worried about the glass fibres being E-glass since I heard from a few mates they thought it could’ve been such. But after some close speculation I’m going to place my bet on s class glass. I could talk about my flight for decades. But I’m on a tight schedule currently☺️😔
P.
Easy to drop off baggage, use Air NZ boarding pass and bag tag kiosk. Duty-free was good value ( compared to Aust prices...BUT the food in the airport is horrendously expensive. $30 for one breakfast that only had a small coffee, small ginger beer and a breaky roll.
R.
This is a smaller airport than I'm used to, but very nice. Didn't get to walk around much as we were excited to head out and explore and also had our luggage to drag around, but it was very nice! Great modern design with lots of open space and natural light. It seemed very well organized and maintained. Bathrooms were clean and well kept. Great to freshen up in after a LONG flight. Customs procedures went exceptionally smoothly. Agents and staff I encountered were all friendly and helpful. No trouble getting a cab to our destination!
K.
Only passengers are allowed to enter in the international departure building in level 3/4 lockdown. Bag rapping facility is closed.
M.
Fantastic getting back at Auckland airport after a long period of absence still as friendly as ever
E.
A lot of changes and construction ongoing. Only travellers are allowed inside. Free of traffic and mostly buses operating. Only takes 5 mins to check in and traveller is allowed back outside to chat.
R.
its just okay airport
M.
Due to covid safety protocols were in place 👍🏻
G.
Haven't been to the airport for ages. Wait zone awesome, map accurate, helpful polite public zone assistant to pull over to ask if I could wait safely 5min or drive around again. Good safe experience using the public pickup zone for domestic arrivals. 👍
P.
Always a pleasure to fly domestic on a A320 with Air NZ.. and the airport itself is a breeze from plane to bus
V.
Clean and well maintained. Good amenities. Have clean showers and washrooms.
A.
Very nice airport with kind and friendly staff.
Good Job!!
E.
It's a great airport, but recently I had to wait more than 30 minutes to get off a plane because there was no jetbridge or bus available!!
J.
It's possible to have an extremely long walk to your gate. Especially if you have to walk from the domestic terminal to the international terminal. But if the weather is nice its actually a nice walk outside.
It does have no shortage of food options and shops which are very nice to pass some spare time.
I.
It’s small and tidy Airport. You will find all corners are been well thought off. Renovation is still going on . And it’s on growing beauty.
M.
It's been two year's too long since I last passed through AKL,
hopefully New Zealand will reopen It's border (?)
G.
Auckland International Airport gives a unique experience and I’m glad to have visited it. It is nationalistic and regionalistic. It’s stores are very NZ, Australia, Pacific— you see feathers everywhere, manuka honey, Whittaker’s, Arnott’s, etc. Its bookshop Relay offers bestsellers that are not based on US’s best seller list!
P.
Not bad in terms of shops. However the domestic terminal is old and desperately needs updating and it will be great once the upgrade is complete
P.
While staff are always friendly, I have always found an issue with queues and bag delays when arriving internationally.. this was pre covid but I can understand why it is happening with red and green zones operating. Big thanks to the Auckland airport staff working during covid. Cheers
H.
Very busy but well organized airport.
R.
It's pretty much streamlined for check-ins and for arrivals
J.
I always book my parking at Auckland Airport as it is so easy to organise and close to the airport. Today, I feel that they have taken it to another level. I was cancelling my parking due to my overseas trips cancellation. Based on my experience with our National Carrier, I was preparing myself for a worse case scenario. I did the cancellation on their website, quick and simple and after the transaction, the money was in my Credit Card already. Well done. I am now definitely a loyal customer. Auckland Airport is 100% for the customer during good times and bad.
R.
Great place to catch a plane or pickup a passenger huh, highly recommended
S.
It's an airport! It will do. Decent food choices. Friendly staff. Only 45 min of free internet though
P.
It's an airport, it was clean, the staff were helpful. There were lots of airplanes there. What can I say. It was exactly what you would expect, a bus station full of buses with wings. Lots of people cruising around doing there thing. Expensive food and parking.
M.
The airport staff are helpful as always specially during such tough times.
S.
Great service and lovely people working there. Much appreciated
T.
Auckland Airport is the main airport in Auckland.Serves as International and Domestic flights hub centre. During Covid-19 and the Australian flight bubbles , now it's divided into two International terminals serving Australian and New Zealand travel bubbles passengers and from other flights from other countries that requires 2 weeks in MIQ. It's currently a very interesting arrangement also a very strict adherence division separating incoming passengers.
K.
Quite now, beta times soon. Road works both from Papatoetoe & down the Bolt. Ensure allow xtra time for this.
Off roads nearly completed.
Only prob, more traffic lights!
k.
Cool, quite, deserted & a delayed ✈️ not a bad score AirNZ
D.
The airport starts to close as you approach 7pm so if you have a late flight there is little choice after 6:30. However it is a small airport that allows you to move from area to area quickly.
D.
The Auckland airport authority is so very nice. The countrymen made me believe that New Zealand tops the chart of sincere and loving country around the globe. No other nation can surpass this welcoming nature!! Love ❤️ you NZ..
R.
Widening of and beautification of the motorway to the airport is almost completed. Hopefully, folks traveling to and from the airport would have unhampered breeze to and fro.
P.
Love the lounge, planes need better air con
D.
This airport is pretty dated, with elements that are clearly in overcapacity. Parking is dubious, and the check in experience is rather lacklustre, but it's surprisingly spacious inside the terminal. It has everything you'd expect from an international airport, nothing special. It clearly wasnt designed with the capacity in mind it is coping with today, and is outclassed by cleaner, more modern airports in NZ, such as Christchurch international.
C.
Sad as it was empty And the 'search party' confiscated a tiny gift jar of Manuka honey rather ungraciously...
A.
Late at night a bit like a ghost town. Efficient with no shopping.
S.
Sunple & easy airport. Humble & nice staff. Nice cleanliness
J.
If you're arriving into Auckland Airport, there's nothing open. No duty free and no cafes or food outlets are open. Don't plan on getting through customs quickly either with temperature checks for covid on all incoming passengers. But if you're a kiwi returning home, then you've finally arrived at the best place to be in the world!
N.
I have visited Auckland airport 16 times in the past 12 years. The facilities has improved tremendously, with internet and Wi-Fi, food outlets and resting areas for passengers too. The check-in and departure processes are well in place with trained pleasant and efficient staff taking care of our needs. It's a pleasure to be here. Thanks to everyone for making these things possible.
A.
Small but very beautiful airport!!
R.
Only done a departure from here. International terminal is large and full of food and shopping options. Good layout and easy to navigate. Clean. Wouldn't mind a layover here.
Security was busy but moved. Efficient. You can tell this airport serves a lot of passengers but doesn't feel like a zoo.
Friendly staff who enjoyed my American accent (ha!).
Good experience here.
M.
Great airport with lots of food and shopping options. Navigation is straightforward but be advised that the domestic terminal is a 15 minute walk from the international terminal (though there is a free shuttle between the two). My bag drop didn’t open until two/three hours before my flight (Virgin Australia) so I was a bit stuck sitting around with my bags, though there is a paid baggage storage spot.
D.
Arrangements are awesome but too much complicated became of the current Covid 19 procedures
w.
Walked in got our tickets and onto the plane no problem. Just a pity air New Zealand did not tell us about the head phones 🙄 on the flight. They don't issue because of covid which is fair. They could of warned you when getting the tickets to bring your own. Watched a movie with no sound.
B.
Very nice good beautiful nature of the highest Auckland International Airport AKL ✈️ New Zealand Airplane pilot man ✈️🙏❤️ Airplanes pilot ✈️ God 🙏 Maa Saraswati Mata 🙏 God 🙏 Maa Saraswati Mata 🙏 Airplane pilot man ✈️ New Zealand Airplane ✈️. Air New Zealand Airplane pilot man ✈️🙏 Auckland International Airport ✈️ Wellington International Airport ✈️
A.
Best thing, they have shower rooms in arrivals area. Especially useful when you come from long flight and are waiting for pick up.
C.
Can't believe we have minimal flights at moment yet still we had to bus from plane to domestic terminal. And we still operate a same entry and exit point for departure and arrival pickups. We must be one of the only countries in the developed world still doing so.
J.
For the first day back in full operation, everything was amazingly smooth!
k.
Signs stating where uber app users should go to find there drivers for pick up, as 1st timers of using the app on the weekend we didnt see any..Wellington Airport has signs for app users..
E.
Normally don’t make reviews about anything.. because I believe one bad thing doesn’t necessarily make everything bad, but had to share this. A lady at the help desk in the international terminal was being unbelievably rude to a couple who did not speak English very well. Really puts a downer on your mood to see something like that. Of course, not everyone at the airport is like this! I just think that if you are going to work at a help desk in an international terminal, I would think you’d show a bit more kindness to your travelers! It’s honestly pretty confusing too... quite the trip from the domestic terminal to the international terminal! Anyway, other things about this airport are great. Clean and comfortable. Just had to share what I keep thinking about!
J.
Considering the rating is done post covid 19 there is not much to say apart from there was ample parking, good seating, paper towels in the toilet and good coffee. The announcements were clear and audible. Never an issue with Auckland Airport.
D.
Very quiet still with not all food outlets open. Very easy but I am sure once other bubbles open it will be good. Keep safe
S.
A great airport with mostly smooth operating system. But the construction at the customs section is taking forever and is not looking great last time I been there.
But the airport overall is straightforward, with many check in desks and the fairly new self service kiosks, making the checking in a lot faster.
But the airport could be improved and while not much has changed over the years the gate of New Zealand could he improved.
a.
This is a small, but clean and modern airport. Plenty of stores to explore. The dining options are limited, but the food court has a lot of seats. Typical airport facilities are available like baggage services. Easy to get here with transport options like buses and taxis from the city.
T.
Most of the staff was nice and we were done fast for a domestic flight. But then we had to get to the international arrival Gate which is 500m away. Colored lines on the floor help.
Had to wait over one hour for our friend to get out after the plane landed..
Rest was fine. Airport was clean and everything was easy to find.
V.
I had the Safest airport experience esp during the covid pandemic. I wish I should visit it during a normal day.
All airline staff health workers military personal and all frontline workers are very calm and friendly. They are cool inspite of staying away from their families and a tiring work schedule. Working24/7 to protect the Island from any foreign infection.
L.
Nice, modern surrounds, easy access to water, and bottle fill stations + wifi. The food and shopping options are great - food prices are through the roof, but you get that at most airports. The public transport options are sadly lacking.
D.
Lots of things shut at the moment, but big and clean and functional.
A.
Humming with people traveling, car park was packed even though it wasn't School holidays. I was there to see our daughter off and was stung $23 for parking just over 1 hr, 1/4 of her air fare to Christchurch.
L.
It's an airport so it's fine but $22 from Little Gypsy for a "large" glass of Pinot Gris (200ml if you're lucky) is a ripoff.
M.
Great and modern airport. Got here from Singapore and had a great time. Now departing.
V.
Easy to hear info over the loudspeakers, clearly marked out seating for social distancing, easy to find check in stations, to book in bags and find boarding gates.
T.
Auckland was my transfer airport when I was on holiday to the Gold Coast, Australia a couple months ago. It was a lovely airport, and what helped me was was their smoking deck they had in the terminal (in the states, as far as I know, you have to be outside to smoke. Which will cost you a lot of unnecessary time). The shops and restaurants were clean and really appealing.
P.
Nice and easy for a regional flight ✈
V.
Best airport in the world, super modern and stylish. So much room to sit and a relaxed atmosphere! Everything is perfectly clear and easy. The staff has to be the best staff I have encountered in any airport in the world. They are so genuine and kind! Even the staff at customs is absolutely amazing! They all deserve a pay raise! 😄
t.
That was the first overseas trip for me.
This airport welcomed me warmly.
I want to go NZ again.
B.
Nice air port, totally well mennerd staff, neat and clean, bagage facilities for checking is too fast, easy to guide. I enjoyed new Zealand airport facilities. I am happy to share my experience. Nice to visit it. There are many flight over here.
I.
Only passengers who have travel tickets are allowed to enter International Terminal. You will be stopped by Security before being allowed in.
T.
Giving 5 stars due to it is a New Zealand airport. It is a smaller one, not comparable to big airports. But I have noticed one thing. Many people waiting for drop-off are waiting outside on the banks which are limited. Just go in and upstairs, there is a big waiting room with restaurants. From some reason I missed it and if I knew I could have more comfortable time there.
G.
I have apologised for years to my overseas visitors for the difficulties of getting from Overseas Term to Domestic with large bags and dignity on a rainy day. I've used AKL since it was established at Mangere and I think that it could be done much better - it is about time before the next wave of tourists.
C.
Great Airport...does what it says on the box. Has planes and travelers using them. Good shuttle services to city hotels from $25 for the Super shuttle (shared ride). Cheaper than a taxi.
T.
The airport is easy to navigate around, but the announcements are often not loud enough. Limited facilities whilst waiting for flights to land and the time from landing to leaving the airport could be improved. The staff are very courteous and polite. The short term car parking is quite expensive, but it is easy to use the pay system.
C.
Your gateway to a magical island, filled with beautiful scenery. The airport was clean, very organized, and filled with fantastic staff.
B.
Very quiet plenty of parking tonight
F.
International Airport and we were at the domestic terminal.
Had a smooth experience. The airport is well marked. Security is strict but courteous in their ways. I liked that they asked for permission to brisk check you and for the first time I did not feel offended. I felt like hugging the officer there 😊
Gates are well marked. Announcements are timely, proper and clear.
There are massage chairs that u can take massage for 4-8 minutes for 2-3 $. It’s super amazing.
Shopping can be avoided as all the chocolates, T-shirts are cheaper outside.
C.
I consider as One of the best airports because of the service
P.
A real lovely airport, which many food positions at surprising good prices. Very chill staff work here, it’s always a treat to have a layover in this airport. Places to wait and rest of all kinds, possible to find quiet places to sleep also.
S.
Lots of precautions in place & clear direction from plenty of staff around the domestic terminal, air New Zealand taking every precaution they can to keep us safe. Single seats for those flying alone & hand sanitizer offered during the flight.
M.
Great airport. Lots of planes just as expected. Very tired crocodile hiding in a vending machine.
J.
Domestic airport - staff very friendly and there are plenty of shops and food outlets. A swift service.
P.
Very nice experience at the Auckland airport. Neat and clean, cooperative staff and crew members, spacious baggage area, very pleasant arrival after a comfortable journey on Air New Zealand. Definitely visit again.
D.
It is a good airport. It took us some time to pass through scanning our luggage for food items. We had mentioned all the food items we were carrying. So the just checked those items and cleared them, except one or two items were retained into the garbage bin. The staff were polite and courteous. We easily found our shuttle bus stop to go to our car rental outlet
G.
Auckland Airport is a small but well laid out facility, with pleasant staff and good amenities. However the airport's intense focus on parking and commercial transport revenue means the public pickup/dropoff areas have been neglected and these are poorly managed. If you are using the pickup/dropoff zone at the international terminal, be prepared for a long wait as inconsiderate users waiting for flights will block the few available spaces in this area.
E.
Tidy, easy to find a park, wasn't crazy busy today inside the terminal (30/12, bout 2pm) needs more spaced out seating though & hopefully the interior works will be finished soon too.
r.
Very sad to see nothing open even for a drink or sandwiches to eat but staff were excellent and available to help
H.
Nice airport but I hardly found any staff to ask for help as I made transit from domestic to international around 1 am. Couldn't find any shuttle service or proper directions and I decided I'll be missing my flight to Hong Kong. Thankfully I made it on time but I would have been happy if the directions were clear.
T.
Went for 1st vaccination. If you wondered where all the orange and white cones are, go check out Verissimo Drive
A.
Always good and quick through customs
V.
Weird Covid new world, experience. Basically empty. A few international travellers, a few, very lovely airport staff waiting to hear if they are the next to be culled. Free parking for 2 whole hours. Life as we currently know it I guess. I'd rather have this than masses of sick people filling the hospitals and the entire outside world closed down again. We are a lucky country.
S.
Staff are fantastic very friendly extremely clean place
M.
Big, clean informative environment.
Would be nice if we could get more space for smoking and vaping.
M.
I loved the atmosphere of the airport. It wasn't too busy when I flew to San Francisco on United airlines in August of 2019. It was also very nice to see a good size and very peaceful prayer room for all faiths at the airport.
S.
Security check and check in went very quickly, there were no lines on Thursday morning. There was ongoing construction, but the gate was easy to find and quick to get to.
Free showers in the international terminal are a big plus. The free wifi is only for 45 minutes. So many other airports are better in this respect.
Airport shops and eateries are ridiculously expensive in all airports. I don't buy there, but sometimes look at the prices just for a laugh.
A.
Friendly staff, good protocols, lovely location by the Manukau Harbour.
P.
It is a busy, mostly efficient operation. What really annoys me are the outrageous prices of parking, food and drink. TWICE THE PRICE of the supermarket and more!!! 👹 Fortunately, McDonald's at the airport costs what McDonald's costs anywhere else in Auckland 🤡 . If Ronald can keep his prices normal, why can the other operators not do the same?
R.
Nice airport not many good places
R.
Well maintained and clean airport. Easy security clearance. Bet you will not take more time for sure. Good immigration officers, shopping and food courts. 24/7 cafes. Place to sleep out in airport. Overall on its best. Short and long time parking spaces are available for reasonable price. Shuttle services absolutely free to city.
M.
Used uber for the first time . Pick up behind rental car building at Akl domestic terminal. Got to be the best way to go . Drivers were friendly and helpful.
K.
Very efficient airport. I was impressed with the electronic equipment it has that I have not seen before. Nice looking airport.
J.
Decent airport. Reasonable customs/security processing times, although check in can get a little slow at busy times without e passport kiosk. Good selection of air side bars with ample seating. Friendly staff, and enough of them to get things done promptly.
H.
Good service, easy to talk to people as well as a easy to navigate floor plan . So over all good good .
G.
Really Nice and clean Airport, with friendly staff, It can get a little busy but know where near as bad as other Airports, They have services so you can park your car and they drop you off at the Terminal you need to be at. It has a fair amount of seats to seat on when waiting. The International waiting area has Duty free shops, Bars, and much more, Alot of people do say they should increase the free wifi time which I would agree with but it is not the biggest of problems. Overall it is a great Airport and you will enjoy your time there.
D.
Long queue's on Arrival sometimes over an hour + long!!! Not a great first impression on entering a new country. Just hope there's no other aircraft arriving at the same time. We landed with three other flights and the arrivals couldn't cope. I'm sure I'm not the only one that's had to stand & queue for hours. On the other hand the airport itself is clean, modern and comfortable. The traffic from the airport along Puhinui road is also the worse design causing major gridlock. A great airport is one where you spend less time queuing and processing time is minimal.
A.
Clean and well presented. Good selection of restaurants and duty free shops.security check was well organised and ran smoothly. Ple Ty of clean toilets and drinking water fountains where you could also top up drinking bottles. Plenty of seating and space to spread out if needed.
N.
Would have given 5 stars but no wifi and no pens to fill arrival card (not even a shop that sells pens) at an international airport in one of the world's richest countries is a major letdown. Staff is generally very helpful. This is one of the few airports where immigration and customs officers actually behave and communicate like real humans
B.
A decent airport however with room for improvement. The arrival gate seating area as well as the food court seating area needs massive improvement. There is just not enough space/seats to cater for the crowd and this has on occasion being an irritation.
In addition the price of car-parking is atrocious. This is made worse by the fact that at certain times available car parks are not available and a lot of time is wasted driving around before being able to actually get into the airport which again leads to paying more for parking in the end.
One of the nicer features used to be the observation floor and kids play area in the top which has since been removed. This was a star feature of the airport and as a result the airport has become somewhat child unfriendly. Would love to see more thought put into bringing these sorts of things back.
All considered; the facilities are always clean and well maintained so can't fault this, however the airport is very plain and not at ht caliber of a first-world airport. Whilst this may not bother travelers that are simply moving through - for non-travelers it is a bit of a bore.
M.
Queues for security screening can sometimes be a bit long, but otherwise a good airport to fly in and out of
G.
Auckland airport was excellent no issues checking in at emerates
Airport Med busy all staff very helpful
Appreciate it
S.
It's a big and beautiful airport. Easy to navigate. If you can't find something you can ask help from the staffs. Domestic airport has automatic checking system and its really easy. If you feel bored you can go for s walk around the sops and buy food or coffee too. You will not feel left out.
K.
First time in Auckland so it was nice was able to sit down have some food and then read a book and relax before leave to check in to my hotel
C.
Immigration was relatively efficient and the staff were kind but following signs to domestic transfers will easily get you lost if you’re not familiar with this airport. The signage completely ends and there’s no mention of any separate domestic terminal unless you stumble outside and happen to see an arrow painted on the sidewalk directing you to the domestic terminal. It’s a 10 minute walk with multiple detours around construction areas. There is a shuttle if you prefer, though. A little more signage would go a long way.
The domestic terminal is dated, small, and crowded. If you’re not transferring domestically I’m sure you’ll have a much nicer time.
The wifi is slow and if you lock your phone for any length of time you’ll have to go through the entire rigamarole of re-logging in.
M.
A great airport. Went on a flight end of last year and staff were friendly. The restaurants are good and security wasn't too bad.
O.
I was in airport waiting for my daughter come and my car doesn’t start and some airport stuff , Indian man I forgot his name came and help us to a start my car I just say thanks that man , he was very good , thanks Auckland airport
G.
Well laid out easy to access airport with all the facilities you could need. However, lack of rail to airport does make getting there can be frustrating and problematic by car or bus if traffic is bad (which does occur frequently). They do seem to always have construction going on which is frustrating and will be great when complete!
C.
Back home in NZ and was pleasantly surprised with the dramatic changes. From the departure gates, security and passport control to the eateries was what one bow expects of a good international terminal. All staff today were friendly and helpful!
I.
Great toilets, decent food selection, and speedy security as always. Covid has made the security lines even shorter.
C.
Despite the Level 3 lockdown (Wednesday, 12 August)....Auckland Domestic airport was as easy to get through as ever. SkyBus was there waiting for me to take me directly into the city. Usual eateries were there but limited due to the lockdown restrictions.
K.
Lovely, a bit quiet, fully hygiene protocol, not allowed get in if no travel documents awesome, nice parking area some payment machines are playing with credit card only cash, but awesome
M.
It's an okay airport, but on a trip involving Incheon in Seoul, anything less is going to be lacking. There are only a few food options, but they're good. Lots of coffee choices. Also the usual fast food chains. Lots of duty free, too, although it doesn't help in terms of liquids and weight if you're traveling on a few flights and will need to go through security a few times, because you'll still have to get your purchases into a checked bag.
There's a decent amount of seating, some of it comfortable, but this isn't really a place you want a long layover. That's especially tie because thou only get 30 minutes of free wifi.
Baggage Storage in the international terminal was way expensive at $13 for a big bag, $11 for a small for 8 hours. For some reason that place also charges you two dollars to weigh a bag when you can do it for free at stations before the entangles to some airport lines, including at Air New Zealand.
There's not too much traffic and the rental car places are nearby, although some close pretty early and there's no general airport shuttle, just the individual rental company shuttles, which can be limiting.
Getting between international and domestic seems to basically require walking, and it's a hassle dragging one's stuff behind one. They took so long checking and cleaning the bottoms of people's sneakers coming in that I couldn't check my bag through, and had to run to domestic with all of my bags, which was one of the more stressful transfer experiences I've had. They literally had one person checking camping stuff or whatever, including sneakers, and that same perish was apparently also responsible going into the back and washing dirty sneakers while everyone in line waits for 20 minutes, no joke.
There's a bus to downtown that's pretty reasonably priced, although not on par with some of the easiest and best value airport transportation around, like Chicago, LA (#3 bus!), NY, Barcelona, etc. it was $30 round-trip.
K.
Amazing airport! With showers and spaces to accommodated various religions and cultures. Food court is varied and clean, space is luscious and easy to navigate. Also, there is a smokers lounge for those who need it
M.
So far so good. Organised, quite clean. No excessive waiting time like some for security, not directed through shops you have no interest in purchasing from. Decent amount of seating for the numbers. Staff are generally friendly and helpful.
S.
Well organized under the Covid-19 circumstances. Security guards helpful. Airport staff helpful. Clean and felt "safe" regarding health safety.
Thanks
R.
Never seen an airport so empty before in my life.
A.
Nice range of shops and food options. Spacious, friendly people. Customs and security usually flow quickly upon departure - but I once spent 90 minutes in the biosecurity line one night at midnight when 4 flights came in at the same time.. Ugh!
D.
It's OK but not a place you want to spend lots of time. The new Air NZ lounge is n ok t as good as the old.
M.
Auckland Airport is a very busy place however somewhat to busy that in my humble opinion you can easily become a number and not a person.
Being one of New Zealand's major gateways for tourism, business and local travelers needs a grester personal and more understanding touch. From my experience there seems to be very little help quickly or urgently available because when you find it there always seems to be a queue.
Also from my experience the car parking charges imposed by the Airport Authority for personal car parking (along with the Airlines for missing a flight) are really very pricy. They certainly could inject more flexibility into the charging. I know hotels are charged large amounts of money to collect passengers in hotel shuttles.
Nonetheless it is efficient, manages the large volumes of people and looks good. Security is great and this is comforting.
M.
Convenient location everything seamless great amenities.
F.
As airports go, it's a nice little airport. It can seem crowded very easily these days, as it hasn't really been able to scale up with the volume of people that can pass through it's doors. That being said, it's normally pretty efficient in processing travelers (except maybe some of the airline check-in counters).
It used to have a kids play area, which was really useful for people with families, even though the play area was quite small, it did provide a respite for those with kids with too much energy to burn.
All the normal amenities are there, covering all the major traveler needs.

Great International and Domestic airport. Not many shops and not much to do but you shouldn't be in there too long, still a very nice place. Customer service is outstanding and has a wide range of car hire services available if needed. Security is quick but thorough. All round good airport.
A.
One of the most chilled out, relaxed airports I've ever flown out of. Even the security staff and friendly (and helped us find a comfy spot with a power point). Lots of comfy chairs, lots of shops, good food, and really chirpy staff.
I usually feel terrible when I set foot in an airport, automatically expecting a miserable experience, but this airport is one of those rare exceptions.
E.
Flight with Air New Zealand. Friendly, helpful staff. Lots of tax free shops, food and other stuff.
H.
Great little International Airport hub; friendly and helpful staff at Check in counters and Customs and immigration; in fact everywhere in the terminal. Easy to find your way, signage easy to understand and good access, similar in size to Melbourne International terminal but way better layout.
G.
As always over crowded and long overdue for infrastructure improvements at both domestic and international terminals. After 14 years the men's toilets still smell of urine at the domestic airport.
h.
Great airport! Initial security check during bag check were very friendly and not aggressive at all, unlike some securities around other airports. Upstairs is the food court so go check that out! There’s lots of things to eat there as well!
M.
Instead of spending millions on expanding the 'shopping mall' how about fixing the runway? If Heathrow can do maintenance at night why not AKL? Like so many other airports, Auckland Airport seems fixated on building retail shops instead of concentrating on their core business. The Domestic terminal is not too bad, at least the toilet areas have been revamped. Serious shortage of power points for recharging phones - only Wellington is worse.
I.
Still quite a pleasant airport to be in but prices and facilities poor. We used to buy our duty free items at Auckland on our return from overseas because prices were reasonable. No more. Now better to purchase overseas. Free wifi limited to 45 minutes. Charging facilities pathetic.
S.
I had the misfortune of having to take a repatriation flight from NZ whilst visiting my daughter I arrived at Auckland Airport with necessary paperwork and tested for COVID-19 checked in and found I had been given Business class then passenger assist. As I was travelling after my husband had had a repatriation flight I was extremely nervous and shakey, as I really do not like flying was spoken to by a charming and calming man called Matthew who found me and eased my concerns about the flight, he was very helpful and I would like you to thank him on my behalf for the way I was treated under such difficult times. Matthew was very caring, thoughtful and calming unfortumately did not get his full name, he seemed to be a supervisor/security guy who I will never be able to thank enough. Could you please acknowledge review thank you.
D.
Good experience. Flew into domestic, transferred to international with ease. Flew out again to Australia. Easy and stress free.
C.
No doubt is full of services, and the airport staff very attentive.
J.
It is in the process of refurhbishment. It is tired and needs new different look.
Good once you leave the common area and into the travellers only part.
There is lots of expensive parking. The international and domestic are next to each other. You can walk between them and there is a free bus. There are enough toilets. Security and luggage can be slow at busy times.
Looking forward to changes.
M.
Early morning flight always frustrating...around 5 am l was standing at Hudsons waiting to order my coffee..l was sooo impressed by the service gave by the morning staff. All looking happy and the coffee was the best coffee l had at an airport. Well done!
C.
air nz check in staff very helpful and welcoming
M.
Very quiet

The International airport is going though a big upgrade at present, this has been going on for quite some time, it has been well managed and causes little or no inconvenience to passengers. The airport is growing fast. The departure formality is reasonably painless, security is much more than it used to be, but in this day and age it is expected and the disruption is kept to a minimum as much as possible. The new duty free layout is rather like being in Ikea than an airport, you're made to transverse through the stores whether you like it or not. It's funny to think you can't buy smokes any more but alcohol is thrown at you constantly, feel sorry for any people that struggle with addiction. The area after duty free is where the new stores and food courts are being opened. This time through we waited at the bar downstairs for a drink as they sell Monteith's on tap, the sign said back in 10 minutes, we gave up after 15 minutes and no sign of staff!!!! The construction noise there was also quite loud. Upstairs Burger King had gone (not sure if relocated or gone) and the other bar was welcoming (at least is had staff) As usual the facilities are clean and the ground staff helpful and everything is easy to navigate to.
M.
Good clean and easy to navigate airport. Somewhat limited on venues. To be fair it is undergoing construction, ao hopefully tjat will change.
Every encounter with airport staff or merchant staff was good - friendly, cheerful and helpful.
Only downside is time limit on free wifi, 45 mins is a bit short when waiting between flights.
J.
Good experience, felt very "Covid Safe".
Only issue is we waited ages for our last bag, only to find out it had not been put on the flight in Sydney 😬😬😬 wasnt happy bout that
D.
Staff at Auckland airport were fantastic. I recently travelled from Samoa to Nz. The staff helped me with my questions around covid. Excellent customer service
H.
I've always been pleased with the service that the staffs has given, they've got one of the friendliest immigration officer, don't let the airport size fools you.
And if you fancy something to eat or drink upon your arrival/departure, definitely check the Takehome convenience store, the staff was very nice!
S.
Commenting as an Architect I believe the design should be upgraded to match standards of what worldwide leading international airports are. After all, Auckland is the most recognisable city when New Zealand is mentioned.
Poor options for food outlets. Not many international food brands.
A.
Not pleased you cannot get a airbus direct to Hibiscus coast and ticket office wasn't familiar with how I could get there. Fortunately I could tell her I needed an NX1 but no one could tell me where to catch it which is in Custom. St E opp.Mercure.Not impressed with Ak transport.Bus driver on NX1very friendly
S.
The Domestic Terminal is only a short walk from the International Terminal and love the automated bag check with Air NZ. Security staff don't seem to have much experience so re-scan items many times unnecessarily. Allow extra time.
The International Terminal seems to have been undergoing an eternal upgrade so there is often construction noise and re-routing. Customs processing used to be painfully slow and inefficient but if you have an e-passport and are able to use the automated machines this really speeds things up.
W.
Nice very large airport. Bags come off very quickly and efficiently. Going through customs was a snap and immigration was all automated. Didnt even stamp passport. Would urge you to check exchange rates as inside security rates are better than our side in the terminal but are not very good either place. Also if you are taking Uber look for door 11 which is not well marked and is to the left when you exit customs. If you are going to the cruise ships it is about $50 or so New Zealand dollars and about 30 min.
H.
Use to be such a cool experience going to the lookout area that they had ive always remembered that part from the youngest days of my memory and then they take it away and never return it... not even something similar for plane spotters and viewing spots so now the only place is the lookout carpark under the planes path which is still cool but not the same..... i would like to see a lookout in the near future
W.
Great stress-free experience on arrival in Auckland. Helpful staff at the various checkpoints including immigration left a lasting impression.
E.
Great airport. It has all of the usual facilities you’d see in any airport. The security line is never long, which is nice. However, the customs line can be hit or miss; It can be 5 minutes or 45 minutes... it just depends. Also, signage for taxis and buses is not good and not clear; Ask for help when locating them.
J.
Relatively small international airport given Auckland is the largest city in NZ and when comparing to Wellington airport. There is not many chairs for you to sit and wait for friends at the international airport. Limited cafe/food options. For passengers that transiting between international and domestic airport/flights, do take note that there is about 5 minutes walk distance between the 2 airports. And, the domestic airport is closed at 12am and only reopen at 6am.
F.
Great Airport, but not with a perfect Wifi. You always have to connect again.
Make sure that you are following chinese or inidian based passengers when entering the country. Those are preferred for a control. I have been going through the process now three times and it always worked out quite good having those native right in front of you.
M.
Everything is spread out in the domestic airport, food court is down one end with a few other eaterys spread out, price can vary for food. getting to the international airport is easy, either bus that arrives every 10 minutes or if u have time a leisurely stroll well sign posted just follow the green line takes about 15 to 20 minutes. If u need help there are info booths all around the airport
T.
Good airport, small but has most things that you need. It would be better if the domestic and international terminals were connected, it's only a short walk. Parking is expensive, but where in the world is parking not expensive at an airport? Don't expect great food options here.
C.
Some flights were delayed due to fog and runway maintenance
This doesn't happen in Christchurch
R.
I made a booking in advance for Car park R and paid for the booking. When I arrived on the day, there was no more space for me and there was no one to assist. After circling for a number of rounds I had to get out of R and go to another car park (need to pay for it again of course). I wasted a lot time. I was already running on a tight schedule because of bad traffic. I ended up missing my flight and paying for another ticket because I had to.
So here is a note to people, if you are trying to book a spot especially the covered ones, don't take it for granted, allow yourself another 30 minutes in case your booking is not honoured and you have to deal with the unpleasant situation.
On the upside, the car parking team was really helpful after I told them what happened and provided evidence. The additional cost was fully reimbursed. So 4-star to the team.
J.
It's a wonderful Experience and easy to find palces to go plus their workers are kind and approachable. I personally love the shops inside and you really feel welcome.
J.
So very impressed and honoured to have been here. Thats one more ticked off my bucket list. The staff were just great out there doing their tasks. Thank you so much.
C.
Auckland Airport always in good condition, clean, easy transfers between flights be it international to Domestic or Domestic to International. Only drip back is the 10 minute walk between international terminal and Domestic terminal but it’s a nice walk. They run a bus as well but it’s a 15 minute wait time. Airline lounges are good to Qantas or Air New Zealand have lounges here.
S.
Like most airports, prices are super inflated, with limited options between shops.
Staff are mostly average with very few standouts for service.
You are able to roam the airport overnight in the event you are stuck/waiting there; and, some stores are open all night - it is for this reason the place gets three stars as opposed to two.
On a plus side, you can get a beer at 5 in the morning!
T.
There is a free drive in drop off and pick up zone for travellers.
Onsite hotel accomodation is available, or, you can find accomodation a few minutes drive from the airport.
The airport check in counters are easy to locate. Check in staff are polite and professional.
Security is strict, e.g. you must adhere to the carry on liquid volume limits. Security will take and dispose of your items especially if the volume stated on the partially empty item is over the allowable limit.
There are cafes, fast food outlets, shops, money exchange and ATM machines.
Duty free shopping is avaliable. If you have time, browse and compare the prices between the duty free shops (which are next to each other), prices for the exact same item can vary in price by dollars.
There are taxis, buses and shuttles avaliable.
Parking the car at the airport is expensive while you travel. Recommend car park and shuttle ride services that take you to and from the airport.
Allow plenty of time to get to the airport. Road works can cause delays.
There is no airport train.
I hope one day soon there will be alternative quick transportation to the airport.
J.
Having many airports to compare against, Auckland Airport stands out in cleanliness, design, facilities and food choices. Makes the wait a pleasant one!
T.
Enjoyed arriving here in 2003. The staff at the airport were exceptionally friendly. Getting through immigration was easy enough. I remember though the security issues in relation to food and making sure foreign pests or infections weren't brought in.
The airport was themed around the culture of the country and it felt very New Zealand. Getting to my backpackers was straight forwrad - buses left for Queens Street every 20 minutes.
So, in summary - no fuss and generally nice experience all-round.
M.
would be nice if their was a sign telling people when customs opens rather than a sign that says current time to pass through is 5 minutes (to spite the fact it was closed). Even a note on the website would be handy. Other than that, great airport with very helpful staff.
V.
Place where planes land, if you dont land here when you come to Auckland your day didnt go well.
Its clean, tidy and easy to navigate, could do with more covered walkways to the carparks though.
C.
I must admit I liked the airport itself but, can't say much for "American Airlines"!! Beware don't believe what one person (from American Airline) tells you, confirm the information. I was at the airport since 11am my flight to depart at 1:50pm. I was suggested that to go food court then proceed to gate at 1pm a and that sould will be more than enough time to get to gate. WRONG!! It took exactly one hour to going thru security. Hence, I missed my flight. Additional, American representatives said that they called my name eighteen times. I never heard my name called not even once! SPEAK UP man, speak up and stop passing the buck. Strange that I heard other airlines call out, via speakers; for late passengers but not once did I hear American airlines. Am I upset, YES I AM. I have to do this all over again tomorrow.
Word of advice, "USE YOUR OUTDOOR VOICE!!!!!!"
B.
Super helpful staff all over the airport. One staff saw me with an infant and stroller and offered to help me navigate. So great! Great example of kiwi spirit!! New Zealand is the best!!
L.
Very modern airport with quick and easy arrivals and processing through Customs. There are various food offerings in the Arrivals terminal, a very helpful i-site, and a welcome from Middle Earth.
Flight check-in is done at kiosks with checked baggage and residual issues dealt w/airline reps at the counters.
They also have a nice duty-free store you exit through from security clearance.
A couple of things to keep in mind here. If you fly stand-by, it is not like in the US here. You have to wait to clear security until you are assigned a seat and a ticket, which can be a bit nerve-wracking. They also have a bio-security screening you have to go through if you bring in any camping equipment, including tent, sleeping bag, and hiking shoes. They have to examine it and you get a little tag receipt. It is about 15-20mins and you pick up your stuff from a little window in the Arrivals terminal.
M.
Very efficient. Straight through customs and in the car within 30 mins.
Very friendly service operators.
J.
Very quiet. No one asked about all my meds. Is ok to bring in a 3 month supply of prescription drugs. Whisked to quarantine immediately
H.
Very clean and tidy, we taken cared during this Covid time. You can buy yummy 😋 delicious donuts 🍩 there.
z.
Very good service, you can check in your own online booking and you can weight your bags before you handle it will be in the airplane. Usually bussy airport and you need to be in the airport one hour before that flight. Many cafe and restaurants there. Mobile facilities.
The interance for the domestic flight is different than the international. Parking time out side the airport is limited, but there is shuttle bus from a car park to the airport. There's airport buses that can take you from the airport to your place but needs bus ticket, little bit cost more than the sky bus.
Many airlines companies,I like the Newzealand airlines.
S.
Not quite 5 stars.. security was major let down for me..Still better than Brisbane/Gold coast airports by far..well set out more shops to eat(fast food)..good seating areas with plenty of room.. your typical duty free shops to lure you to buy..great modern looking airport with high ceilings and decorations.. just a better experience at this airport.
a.
very clean and quiet in level 1
L.
Very nice airport, with groupings of comfy armchairs with USB/power outlets. Several water bottle filling stations - much appreciated! Several currency donation bins. Two hours of free WiFi. Eateries offer some vegan meals (I had a good vegan burrito from Mexico), and Ugly Bagels sells bottles of Moa beer (good IPA).
I.
I have only used this airport to arrive in New Zealand, but it was a smooth process on arrival. It took us from getting off the plane to getting a bus into Auckland under 25 minutes. Very impressive considering I was getting off an Emirates A380, so I was expecting it to take a fair bit due to the volume of passengers.
F.
Average airport, nothing special, but inside is quite dark on the ground floor. Departure lounge is quite good and shops are as well. However, it is getting a bit to small for the number of people, so is usually quite crowded.
D.
Clean and tidy, Check in, Immigration and security is very fast and efficient. Air NZ staff at Air New Zealand lounge could do with some sleep though, Very irritable, Not a welcoming first impression.
R.
I wouldn't mind giving it five stars as have found it to be better than lot of few other airports around the world..... Biggest let down is the fact that while most of the other airports do have the train or subway options that this airport has still done nothing about it... Not sure why they never thought about it... Draw cards are the eateries options to chose from, the layout, safety, and few other amenities.. They can do a lot better than that.
K.
Need to sort out the hand sanitiser none in the two I went to use
No soap in one block of toilets and no paper towels in the other. These things are very important especially while there are live cases of Covid19 still about.
A.
Beautiful airport, everything is easy to find. The shops here are awesome, great place to find last minute gifts. Overall the airport isn't too crowded. Overall id day of the airports I've been to, it's the finest.
A.
Coming through on wheelchair.. the staff here cannot be more helpful. Thank you air New Zealand for looking after me in my pain and mobility. You guys rock
B.
Domestic terminal is relatively small and crowded. Poor signage if you’re using Uber upon arrival (it’s outside the Jetstar check in area).
International departures is impressive but food prices are borderline extortionate.
Would be great once the domestic and international terminal are consolidated, and a rail link to downtown.
L.
Very sad. The NZ Government has destroyed businesses with the unnecessary overreaction to a bad flu. The place is like a ghost town.
B.
Shops mostly closed from covid due to few travellers, currency exchange very expensive. 100nz became 80aud. No competition for low rates as others are closed. Otherwise usual airport
R.
Love coming here because I’m picking either picking up friends or family, which makes me happy. Or flying somewhere which makes me even happier!!
J.
Very convenient and hassle free airport to fly from, both domestic and international. International terminal has sufficient places to sit, eat or relax after customs. But only 30 minutes free wifi, what's up with that?
J.
Rushing home to beat the lockdown, I left a case in a taxi. He returned it to lost property, and the team there were wonderfully helpful in ensuring it was tagged to be picked up by a courier later. They even emailed me to let me know it had been collected!
P.
A clean well organised relatively free flowing airport with Domestic and International terminals seperated by either a 1 km easy walk.. or a terminal transfer bus. I have been flying in and out of this airport since the mid 80s .. over 35 years..and it is barely keeping up with the prime time traffic both passanger and vehicular. The second main runway is becoming desperately needed NOW...but typically these corporations in view of porit returns ti sharehilders will wait until the place begins imploding before even making a start.... thereby eroding the entire goodwill built up by both airline operators and the travelling public.
The mighty dollar and maximising profit returns will be the fall if this amazing airport....
C.
I understand that it was 7:45am, But 3 international flights came in around the same time. (Los Angeles, Honolulu, Shanghai) Near the end of the security process for entering New Zealand, there were all the people for the 3 flights and only TWO people doing passport checks for NZ/AU Passports, the line was very long and caused us to run to our connecting flight to Wellington because it took an hour and a half for one line, If lots of big international flights come in you need more people on the desks.
