Excellent walking tour of Auckland today with knowledgeable and entertaining guide Marty. The tour lasted about 2.5-3 hours and started at the top of queen street by the ferry building and ended at Britomart. The tour covers mainly on the areas of the north eastern part of the city centre, including the ferry building, Albert park, Lorne street, Vulcan lane and fort street. Loads of information and tips of where to eat and drink in Auckland and good things to do. I also learned a lot about New Zealand history, heritage and culture including the Maori, sports, traditions, flora and fauna, politics and language. I highly recommend to do this tour on your first day in Auckland (or NZ) to get a good base guide for the rest of your stay. Thanks again to Marty for sharing all your knowledge and giving us a good laugh along the way! A great way to spend an afternoon!
L.
That was AWESOME!!
I've been to many waking tours before and this time, I was VERY impressed with Catherine... She's a proud kiwi who's truly knowledgeable yet sensitive about her country, her land and the ancestral lands we now call New Zealand. I was particularly touched by her respectful approach to Maori history and her commitment to help us understand it and appreciate it. Truly recommend this as a worthy introduction to this beautiful land! Kudos!
K.
Very nice little tour which goes through the northern Part of Auckland. It is easy to walk and the guides are very nice people.
Bring some cash and tip the guides, they put a lot of efford into the tour and they also have a lot of knowledge about the city and New zealand in general.
S.
I went in this tour this morning. Out tour guide Griffin was full of fun, energy and with lots of information for us. We headed to different spots and learnt little stories about these places. I would have crossed these spots many times, but I never actually noticed these spots. Griffin took us around and also gave us information about some good restaurants and bars in the area. He also sang us a Maori and English song at the end of the tour. Would highly recommend! Cheers
A.
I took the bus trip - was absolutely fantastic! The guide Martin was great. Gave us a lot of information took us to fantastic places and was also very funny. Fully recommend!
K.
I would recommend the Auckland Free Walking Tour. Its a great way of knowing the city & the country. I happen to be there on Jonathan's (guide) last day. He was very good & explained in detail about New Zealand's history.
M.
The walking tour was so much fun! Our guides, Olivia and Marty, did a great job. They were so clearly passionate about their city and showed us some places we probably wouldn’t have stumbled upon on our own and certainly wouldn’t have known the history of. Three hours sounds like a long time but it passed in a flash.
H.
Im so glad I did the walking Tour. Louise was an amazing guide and has so much knowlegde about Auckland and New Zealand and was able to show us things that I would have walked straight past. 100% recommend :)
A.
Amazing tour! A forced activity that I recommend to do on your first day in the city. Put your snickers and prepare to enjoy the city.
S.
Fantastic opportunity to get to know the history of central Auckland. Louise our guide was extremely friendly and knowledgeable engaging the whole group and answering questions as we went. The tour took about 2 hours and was approximately 3km. Easy for people of all abilities however small children may struggle with some of the hills and steps, otherwise I would absolutely recommend this for anyone coming to the city.
M.
Absolutely excellent, met some cool people whilst on the walk - Definitely recommend if you're a solo traveller like myself!
Ended up spending the whole day with one of the girls I met on the walk in March and we're still friends now.
The guides are fantastic and have lots of knowledge and show you some really cool spots around Auckland.

A great first experience in Auckland. I arrived with an early flight and decided to try the 10am walking tour. The meeting spot was not exactly as marked on google maps, but rather just by "Wolf Coffee". Marty, our tour guide for the day, was super friendly, fun, and provided lots of interesting tips and insights. He took us around to some interesting places throughout the downtown area and pointed out lots of great spots (restaurants, cafes, etc). Overall, a fantastic experience and a great way to meet and talk to some other travelers!
R.
Darcy gave a wonderful tour with really interesting stories! Highly recommend even with the pouring rain we had today!!
P.
This tour was such a great experience. Our tour guide was really knowledgeable and so passionate about New Zealand. She told us a lot of interesting things about history and local culture. I highly recommend this tour to everyone!
D.
The walking tours are deffinetly a good way to see a small but significant part of Auckland's city centre. Or guide was funny and knowledgeable of the countries history and he was not afraid to say when he didn't know something.
Tale water and comfortable shoes you'll walk for at least 90 minutes

Yesterday my husband and I spent a lovely time walking around Auckland learning about the history and highlights of this beautiful city. Our guide was Marty who infused the tour with passion, knowledge and a lot of fun. We highly recommend this tour to others. Ask for Marty.
B.
I took the tour during my first day in Auckland. Marty was in charge of the tour. He was super funny and also sensitive, and provided a lot of interesting information. The tour lasted more than 2 hours and I believe I couldn't have seen some places if I rathered do it on my own. Don't miss it!!!!
H.
Our guide Craig connected the location, the present site as is, projections for future use and tied in with historical information. He was friendly, well-informed and fun. The tour provides a good starting point for visitors to decide how to spend time in Auckland. Tour is useful, informative and fun. I recommend it highly. I enjoyed being part of the group.

A very real learning experience. Marty the guide was a fantastic personality; so upbeat, humorous, sparkly. I had a great walk, met new friends, discovered places I'd never been.. all in my own neighborhood! Definitely returning.
N.
The tour was absolutely amazing! I actually learned alot about Auckland and discovered places that were so close to my hostel that I didn't even know about. Our tour guide was Olivia and she was there to answer any of your questions! She also had some personal favorites and had send them to us by email. Highly recommended!
S.
The staff at the walking tour really make this a recommended experience. They know so much about Auckland it's crazy and really know the top sites to visit at a later date or after the tour is over. Plenty of laughs and jokes shared around, group was great as well. I wanna do it again!
K.
We had the pleasure of being guided around by Mertyh (Marty). Very knowledgeable about the history and culture of Auckland and NZ in general. He had great energy and enthusiasm. Bonus points for pointing out clean "secret" washrooms during the tour.
I.
Our guide, Marty, was incredibly knowledgable and very friendly. The tour itself was a perfect mix of history and quirky facts about Auckland. Definitely a great way to find you feet in the city!
E.
This was a perfect way to see some of Auckland and hear a good mix of history, interesting facts, recommendations and more. Marty was a brilliant guide and so incredibly helpful. Cannot recommend this tour more.
B.
We happened to catch the walking tour on our first day in Auckland. They were starting exactly where they said and we were given our tour by Olivia. She was very friendly and bubbly, and the tour was a great way to start our time in Auckland.
We roamed around the central downtown and were given a wealth of facts about the founding of New Zealand, Auckland history, Māori culture, and random buildings and distracts we came across. Olivia was certainly a walking Wikipedia article, and definitely likes to meet travellers and tell them about her home.
The one suggestion I would have is that maybe the guide could talk a little bit less (not that we didn't enjoy what you had to say) and perhaps throw in another stop or two! The tour was full of information and was the perfect amount a time, but I feel as though another couple stops would have been nice.
Of course, nothing beats free (donations were certainly appreciated though!), so this walk definitely deserves 5 stars!
G.
Louise was a stunning informative guide, full of great information both historical and current. Perfect pace and time was perfect. Louise had a microphone to allow us to hear her great commentary. I am a kiwi and I loved hearing about our City of Sails. Highly recommended!
R.
Completed a tour with Marty today. Very informative and engaging tour, which gave us a great insight into Auckland. Thank you for you time and a happy new year.
N.
Wonderful introduction to Auckland's geography and history from a knowledgeable guide. The tour operates on a voluntary donation basis, and folks on the tour ended up giving anywhere from NZ$10/person to NZ$35/person.
t.
Having done 10 or so tours now all over the world, I can honestly say this was my favourite. The guide (unfortunately I can't remember her name) was just the right balance of informative, funny, and engaging. She clearly loved her job and that enthusiasm was infective.
邱.
Even though it was cold and raining, I'm still so glad that I attended this free walking tour. Our tour guide Olivia gave us many historical informations about NZ and Auckland. It was a very knowledgeable 3.5hr walking. Thank you Olivia!
A.
The Auckland Walking Tour was a great primer to the city. The guides were very knowledgeable and bubbly. The tour hit all of the main spots. Definitely go to get a good background of the city.
B.
Every minute of the tour is filled with interesting facts and plenty of humour. The tour helps you get a feel of the city, and some great tips on coffee and food places to visit later. Marty the guide really made the day. Thanks mate
S.
My brother and I did this walking tour while visiting our sister living in Auckland. It was fantastic. It's a great introduction to the city and the volunteer guide provided a lot of local history and insight.
H.
Highly recommended tour for any visit to Auckland. Marty was a very knowledgable and passionate guide - kept us all engaged throughout the 2.5 hr tour.
N.
Super recommend it! Specially for the first days. Did the tour today with Louise. She took us through lots of beautiful places in a two hour walk with few up and down hills in a quite hilly city. She was super nice and eager to answer any question
J.
Way better than I thought it would be. A good mix of Maori and European history.
L.
Louise was very enthustiastic, knowledgeable and informative about Auckland. I would recommend going on this trip. There was one difficulty in that there were quie a few people on the walk. This made it difficut to hear Louise unless you ensured you were close to her (as her loudspeaker system was not very effective). In addition, for those of us who have been on walking tours in other older cities, Louise was hampered by Auckland only being founded about 180 years ago meaning that there is a lack of subject matter on which to draw (NOT the fault of Louise but, nevertheless, problematic).
P.
Despite the inclement weather as it was raining during the entire tour, Olivia, started her tour by asking everybody what country they came from, which many tour guides forget to do. This created links between the walkers and then her explanations of the various sites were professional as well as animated and very interesting. Compared to the cruise boats $80 walking tours, this was a steal at 20 USD
P.
Great 2.5 - 3 hour walking tour around the Auckland central business district. Useful for anyone new to Auckland to orientate yourself in the city centre and learn a little history about New Zealand and it's larges city.
F.
Had Eva take us on an amazing fact filled tour of Auckland on Friday morning. Incredibly knowledgeable and caring to make sure everyone got across roads safely. I can’t recommend this enough!

Best walking tour ever! It was very nice, very friendly guide. It is not really free, you should give at least a tip . But I definitely recommend. Meeting at 10 am every morning, and lasts about 2 to 3 hours.
D.
A nice walk with a great commentary from the guide. I would have preferred to explore further afield but I guess that the route is planned for a base level of fitness and our party certainly contained some walkers who struggled with the route that we took while others were capable of much more.
G.
Griffin was our guide and he did a great job. Even though he is originally from somewhere else, he's gotten to know lots of facts about the city, and even sang in Maori for us at the end.
M.

(Translated) Informative walking tour. Very good for the first few days in the city to get an insight. You can ask for lots of tips and information.
Historical backgrounds of the city and country are well explained.
Everyone has to decide the payment for themselves. 15/20 dollars are appropriate in my opinion.

Informative Walking Tour.
