R.Having talked about going ballooning for so long we finally did it. What an amazing experience and Mike's skill at controlling the balloon was unbelievable. He even brought us back and landed in the paddock beside the base with barely a bump. We are not young and my partner is very short so didn't know how to get into the basket. Not a problem to Mike he solved that one to. The views once up were well worth the flight. My advice if you don't do it you have missed an oportunity of your life.

m.The best way to catch the sunrise! It is a must do when you visit Christchurch as 30mins drive only from the airport. It is a soothing, relaxing and amazing experience for everybody! Couple to large groups can fly!
S.Absolutely amazing balloon ride!! Bit of an early wake up but it was a perfectly gorgeous morning on the day, with not a cloud in the sky. I'm not a huge fan of fights so was a bit nervous but it was like a dream floating in the sky. It's also a great plus that the balloon rotates slowly 360 degrees quite a few times so everyone gets the entire view whilst up in the air!
We had a bit of an interesting landing due to wind changes but it made the experience even more fun and thrilling (and we ended up in the air for an extra 20-30mins!), but we knew we were in capable hands!
Lovely touch at the end with champagne/juice and muffins/fruit.
Thank you so much to the team at Balllooning Canterbury, I would highly recommend this trip to anyone and I have so many amazing photos and memories to share! (Review September 2015)
R.Can only say good things about the good folk at Ballooning Canterbury. Professional and understanding. Recommend them if you really want a good experience. Try to book their accommodation on site. It's beautifully kitted and clean. Mike is a great pilot and certainly knows his stuff. A well oiled machine that deserves a great review and I guarantee you won't be disappointed. You'll be in the best hands.
E.Such a brilliant morning . Felt very safe in the professional hands of Captain Michael who also turned out to be a NZ champion glider pilot . He shared his love of the sky with us as well as being super informative about the whole area since he is a 3rd generation local . As soon as our balloon ride had touched down I wanted to go again ! Thanks again to all the fun and helpful team at Ballooning Canterbury . Another bucket list item ticked .
C.If you’re in Christchurch go and make the trip here. Only an hour away and you will not regret it. If you’re staying in a camper you can stay the night in the car park but you must be self contained.
The best way to see the Canterbury plains. We were even lucky to see the tip of Mt Cook! Our pilot Mike, being a farmer himself was so knowledge about the area. The bubbles and muffins/fruit was a pleasant end to the ride to celebrate.
A.What an epic experience. Even though it wasn't the clearest of days once we got up over the clouds how incredible!!! Would 100% recommend. Also hats off to our pilot. T.A truly unique experience from helping set up to helping repack the balloon after floating high above the ground with spectacular views of farms, mountains and rivers. If you get the chance just do it.
S.Absolutely incredible experience. Michael, the owner (and operator for our flight) was a gem. It's clear he loves what he does.
From the moment you get to the lift-off site, he and his crew explain what they're doing, how things work, and ensure every person gets as many great photo opportunities as possible (in the balloon as it's filling, with the flame while they're testing the burners, etc.).
The flight was incredibly smooth and Michael narrated local history, our location relative to landmarks, and details about the farming communities we flew over (he's a local farmer, too!).
Although we had a few clouds, the Southern Alps were still prominent, and we got to watch a beautiful, bright orange sunrise peek through and greet us.
After touch down, we learned about ballooning and flight history, and celebrated with a glass of champagne and snack before packing up and heading back to our cars.
The entire experience is really, really well thought out.
I would recommend Ballooning Canterbury to anyone, and hope we get a chance to bring friends and family soon!

I went alone as my husband couldn’t bring himself to do it but The experience was so peaceful and with me being someone who is wary of heights, I was not worried one bit, felt so safe. The pilot Michael was knowledgeable, friendly and highly skilled. This was one ticked off the bucket list and I couldn’t be happier!

B.This is a not to be missed experience. The day was divine and the sun rise stunning. Our pilot was knowledgeable with great information and obviously experienced. Michael has a great line of patter and we loved every moment of floating in the air and the special post flight ceremony was unexpected but finished this most wonderful experience in a beautiful way. 5 plus stars.
I was unable to climb into the basket but he handled it fabulously and minimized my discomfort and embarrassment. Thank you Michael.
