When we were in Whistler BC last year, we kept on talking to people about where was the best place they have ever skied. We kept on hearing from people again and again, that the best place to go was JAPAN! I know it seems like Japan is a long way from North America to go to ski, but you are also getting such a unique cultural experience. It has been said that Japan has the best snow in the world, and the skiing in the power is epic.
When we arrived, we had a clear plan from Japan Powder Culture tours, and we went north of Nagano to a smaller Japanese town that really gave the authentic small town Japanese feel. Every day the guide scouted the weather reports to find the resorts that would have the best snow and then we travelled there. The guides also found a balance where they put skiers of equal ability together to maximize enjoyment. The guides on the hill took us to areas where you would find hidden gems of untouched powder. After most days on the hill, we were exposed to really interesting cultural experiences such as buddhist temples and some local karaoke! Overall it was great and I would highly recommend. I plan to book another trip soon!

If you want the best powder, best guides, most laughs and a true Japanese cultural experience, then Japan Powder culture tours (JPCT) is the best operation in Japan. I have done several tours and just keep coming back!
Imagine waking up after a great sleep in your amazing Ryokan, having a morning Onsen that has inside and outside options, then enjoying your choice of Japanese or western breakfast, while your guides are scoping the weather and picking the best mountain to venture to for the day.
Your boards/ski’s are loaded onto the bus and then its off to the mountain with great music and laughs on the way. The focus is on finding the best powder and having fun! Riders are allocated into intermediate, beginner or advanced so you are always riding with similar ability people. If your legs are spent, you can just drop down a group in the afternoon and take it easy. There is some amazing off piste riding and Jason and his team are Masters at finding untracked powder, even after many days without snow. Riding through fresh powder in the Japanese forests is an ethereal experience. The guides are amazing. Everyone stays together, it is very safe and caters to all abilities of riders.
When the day is done, it is back to the Ryokan for another amazing Onsen and then onto the nights activities. There are many group cultural nights where we will do Geisha nights, Japanese drums, karate displays and go to great local restaurants in the area.
I attended the tour the first time as a solo rider and have made some amazing lifelong friends, and we all now catchup with JPCT and enjoy the amazing Powder Jason and his team find us.
I was also fortunate enough to do the legendary Roadie tour with Jason, plus some other little adventures into some new prefectures in Japan. Jason is so good at what he does, we call him the Snowlord. The pricing is amazing for all that you get in the tours but most importantly, you are getting expert local knowledge and access to the best powder japan has to offer. I could not recommend JPCT highly enough and I will be a customer of theirs for life.

What a fantastic week of excellent snow / powder, no crowds, blue sky and sunny days, great company and excellent instruction and guiding! My son and I have skiied a little before and significantly improved our confidence, skills and control over 4 days skiing with Jase, John, Tyson and George. I'm amazed at the quality of skiing and absence of crowds in the Shiga Kogen area. We also enjoyed the traditional ryokan and onsen experience in Yudanaka, a lovely little town with awesome local restaurants, as well as cultural performances and side trips to various "hidden gems" such as the Tokagushi shrine. Truly an end to end local cultural experience - Jase and the team could not have been more helpful with every aspect of our trip. Highly recommend!

Japan this year in Jan 2020 has had lower than normal snow amounts which has made finding fresh powder a bit of a mission. In saying that it's all still there if you know where to look.
My mates and I have just finished riding Habuka, Myoko and ShigaKogen.
We decided to book a guided tour with Jason at Japan Powder Culture tours for our ShigaKogen leg.
We are advanced boarders and have over 20 years of riding, with multiple seasons spent travelling looking for snow.
Jason is the first guide that has been able to really understand what it is you a looking for in a guided tour, he took the thinking out of finding lines and freshies which made our day magic. He is very knowledgeable of the area and history of the place. The whole operational was a well oiled machine and provided a professional service at a reasonable price.
Our guide although on skis ripped and we were very happy at the skill and pace he operated at, he was safe and had good gear to hire.
I would and will be recommending these guys to our friends as on Shiga Kogen it is a huge and confusing area a guide is worth it to increase your fun days.
Cheers Powder culture.

I got a last minute cheap flight to go to Tokyo and decided to do a snowboarding tour since i was on my own. Japan powder culture tours fitted my needs perfectly as they had accommodation sorted and guided skiing for as many days as you choose. I snowboarded for 4 days and had an epic time. The powder was unbelievable and I was impressed with Tyson’s knowledge of Shiga Kogen - he took us to so many different spots on and off-piste. He also took us to some great food spots as well. Hostel Aibiya was also an amazing hostel - super friendly hosts and really clean and nice accom - prob shouldn’t be called a hostel as it’s so nice.

Had an amazing time with JPCT! They have an excellent team and make the whole experience wonderful.
Everything is taken care of from handling your skis and suggesting great places to eat.
The town of yudanaka is a hidden gem in japan. Very small and quaint, filled with wonderful ma and pa operations for exquisite Japanese and western dining.
The Aibiya is a wonderful accommodation! The host Yoshi and Seongmi are so helpful with anything around the town or even waxing your skis for you!
On the mountain it’s even more a delight. Being treated to some of the greatest powder known to man. The team never sacrifices safety for fun though. In fact they go hand in hand. With safety briefs and clear concise instruction for riding the japow!
Highly recommend booking with the team at Japan Powder Culture Tours

I highly recommend this tour. Jase and his guides were incredibly knowledgeable about the area and showed us great off piste sites that we would have never been able to find on our own. He also arranged fun cultural detours and performances at the hotel. His pre-trip guidance was very comprehensive. The ryokan in Yudanaka was perfect. All in all, a great experience and I’m looking forward to going back.

The concise and unedited notes for Japan Powder Culture Tours – Feb 2020
• It is addictive. No form of rehab will cure you once you have a taste. 3 tours over 4 years and still counting for me. Frightening to see family and friends so concerned for my wellbeing.
• Do not pay attention to fake news. Shiga Kogen goes off with POW in any year.
• Beware the green light district. A different kind of downhill slope awaits you.
• Do not overestimate your ability. The mountain will take its revenge. Be realistic and the guides reward you with sublime conditions that can still challenge and will fulfill your hunger for more and more POW.
• If Australian, do not steal stuff, all eyes will be on you, so the Kiwis say.
• Do not wear shoes on Tatami mats. Samurai swords await your indiscretion.
• Do not ignore the Onsens. Your muscles and joints will take their revenge.
• Work on your abs. Humour on the road trip could split your sides.
• Don’t bother if you don’t enjoy your tucker.
• Don’t be shy. No matter solo, couple, family, or group, all are spoilt.
• You must meet with people from all over the world and all walks of life.
• Jase and his crew are meanies. They make you have fun and smile whether you like it or not. They act in the sneakiest of ways to make you a better skier/boarder. You like it and feel good, must be a sin.
