Reviews of Ulva Island Ferry & Water Taxi
W.
Ferry to Ulva Island from Golden Bay Wharf. You can buy tickets at the wharf and payment via Card available. They give you a leave that is used as a return ticket. The skipper is informative and even hands out a blanket if you are cold. They run a schedule service, so if you need more flexibility, then take a water taxi instead
J.
Charming and unique experience with a local caption will get you to Ulva in 15 minutes. A short but beautiful ride.
I.
Gorgeous boat with polite and capable skipper. Ferry ran on time with arrangements made when capacity was filled. We even got blankets on the way back because there was a breeze. Lovely views of penguin topped off a fabulous little sail.

Was a lovely trip to Ulva Island, was cold on our way back so the skipper handed out warm blankets 😀, very much appreciated.

Overall good experience and friendly staff except the lady who sold us tickets being a bit cold. Politely asked her to recommend a few places for viewing kiwis/penguins and whether we can walk to the lighthouse by foot. She seemed to dodge our questions. Not sure why. Thought we would disturb kiwis/penguins? We never got too close. One very positive thing is asking questions online and getting friendly reply very soon.

Very positive experience. Generous hosts who obviously love their work. Cold day but blankets handed out and eco leaf instead of ticket. Watch out for wind direction and decide if you want shelter or spray. .Island has fauna and fllora in spades.
Highlight was kiwi and sea lion forme.
Guide book photos very useful.
Choice of return times. Take food and drink.

Great trip over to the island and a great walk around the well kept tracks. A lot of birds can be seen in a place that is so peaceful. Highly recommend a trip here while staying on Stewart Island
P.
You dont want to miss Ulva Island when visiting Stewart Island. This predator free DOC established sanctuary is one of the best places in New Zealand to spectate native birds species, including Kiwi. And if you will be lucky you may even spot here Leopard seal or much bigger Elephant seal

I made five trips to Ulva Island this week, (yes I am obsessed with the sanctuary) all of these crossings with Rakiura and Peter. They were not only very professional and helpful, but their love and respect for Ulva shines through. I can't recommend them highly enough and I thank them for making my time here so special.

An amazing service. Ferry runs on time but will wait if they see you coming.
Water taxi was amazing we used it several times - even got a piggy back ride to the dry sand on a beach landing. Highly recommended 10 out of 10.
T.
$20 return ticket on the ferry - the best way to explore the tracks, bays and birds of Ulva island. Ferry left on time, very quick and efficient.
D.
Friendly, humourous skipper. Crossing is good value at $20 return and a little less bumpy than smaller water taxis. Both crossings were punctual. Ulva island is wonderful and worth taking your time.
J.
Excellent little ferry that crosses over to Ulva Island.
The estimation of about 2.5 hours to comfortably stop, take pictures, and walk the entire island is accurate (about 1.5 with a brisk pace and not stopping!).
For an extra $5 per person you can hire the water taxi which will drop off and collect at a time that suits you - the equivalent of £2.50 to make the times work for you!

Rakiura provided fantastic service. As it is winter and the ferry is only operating on demand, he went out of his way to take us across to the island. He was friendly and welcoming and was back exactly at the time we specified to pick us up. 10/10 recommend!

We were visiting Stewart Island to see birds and wildlife. Ulva Island Water Taxi - Rakiura Adventure was brilliant. Rakiura Herzhoff quickly came up with options for us - and was flexible and quick responding. He tailored our experiences perfectly to our interests. We went on a Ulva Island circumnavigation, a pelagic tour and took a trip to Whalers Bay. All three were fantastic. We saw fur seals, sea lions, penguins and many birds. We felt really lucky to be shown around these beautiful bays and islands by a local running a fantastic locally owned and operated business.

An excellent service for getting to and from Ulva.
Went on their 2pm one and had planned to come back at 4:15, but Ulva is so special that the 6pm boat was just perfect. Thought the $20 rtn (leaf!) ticket was great value.
Locally run and great service from Rakiura, our captain, too :)
D.
Crossed over to Ulva on the Ferry at 10am and returned at 2:15pm. A magical day. No fuss and all enjoyment.
A.
Amazing personal service. Raki goes well out of his way to make an ordinary ferry crossing a really fun experience on its own!
Plus amazing destinations:)

We were lucky to book these guys for a drop off at Christmas Village and pick up 8 days later, big thanks to Rakiura Herzhoff who was our skipper for his punctuality (a big deal when you are on a tight travel schedule like we were), professionalism and friendliness. Really appreciated and would recommend to anyone.

The day on Ulva island was one of my best days in nz!! Beautiful
L.
Beautiful place, massive trees, heaps of birds.
T.
Thanks rakiura, great service.
G.
Raikura sorted us for our dream trip and then sorted us again when it didn’t go as planned. 10/10 would recommend.
N.
You have to do this when you’re on Steward Island.
I walked during the day and saw a kiwi 😍 It was very lucky but amazing!
I.
Amazing friendly and captivating service from the crew, really enjoyable trip over had a great chat and learnt lots and even saw some penguins :)
B.
Excellent service nothing is a problem fantastic local knowledge will definitely be using again for our next hunting trip
P.
Fast efficient service, on time for both departures to and from Ulva Island
G.
Amazing
W.
Slightly pricey for a 5 min Ferry crossing at $25pp, but a good service.
J.
Fun short trip on a beauty of a day

(Translated) Is ferry the mainstream now? I went to Uruba Island by a motorboat that I was doing in the evening. In the evening, there were not many people on the island. The return came to pick me up. On Uruba Island, a small bird follows you.
(Original)
