This was a sound tour!! Definitely recommend the Far North Escape if want to really explore the tip part of north and learning the deep depths of Maori history and culture. I would actually go again because it was THAT beautiful & amazing, had such great laughs, learn heaps about myself and reminds me how much I love travelling again. Jase & Tunui you both legends! Thanks for the solid memories bruthas! See you on the South tour, yieeww! 🤙🏾🤌🏾🧡

If you are reading this and thinking about doing one of these tours the best advice I could give is to not overthink it and just book!
I have never travelled alone before and had the most amazing time on the Abel Tasman getaway. The sights you see are incredible and the memories you make are lifelong! Everyone is so welcoming and these tours are great to push you out of your comfort zone and meet new people.
The guides Millie and Ryan were so kind and knowledgeable!
All the days are jam packed with activities like cruising on a catamaran and out kayaking around the islands spotting wildlife but you get chill time in the evenings to have a drink and hang out with everyone on the tour- super well thought through, highly recommended and 110% worth every penny! ❤️⛵️🌊

Abel Tasman was my second Backyard Roadies experience and just like the South Island tour, it was INCREDIBLE. I got to see another stunning piece of New Zealand I hadn't before, sail, swim, kayak, meet incredible people and reunite with others, make new friends and just have an epic time! Couldn't recommend booking any of these tours enough - Jason and the team are awesome at what they do and these experiences have honestly changed my life for the better! Get on it!! 😍🙌

I had an amazing experience with Backyard Roadies, this was something completely out of my comfort zone and now I'm looking to book my second tour.
I went alone not knowing anyone else on the tour and by the first night we were already like a family. If you're looking to explore your own country and are unsure where to start I highly recommend jumping on a Backyard Roadies tour, you won't regret it!
The guides are incredible with knowledge and also good cooks too so don't worry you wont starve on tour. You will leave with amazing memories made with new friends.

An amazing tour. Wow I had absolutely no idea all of these amazing places were in our backyard and thanks to BYR I've fallen even more in love with this beautiful country. The tour itself is well organised and flows well the whole time, with the right amount of activities to downtime.
Jason and Ryan were fun to have host and offer the right balance of tour guide and friendliness. You can tell they're very experienced.
Will most definitely jump on another BYR and cannot wait for it.

These tours are INCREDIBLE 😍 Jason is incredibly professional, passionate, and dedicates all his energy into making sure you have the best time. The tour guides are knowledgeable and fun; they make sure everyone feels like friends from the second tour kicks off! Very decently priced, huge variety of experiences for everyone; just the best time and couldn’t recommend backyard roadies more ❤️

My sister and I did the 4 day Abel Tasman getaway and we honestly had the most incredible time! All of the guides were phenomenal in making sure it was a trip to remember! We're already thinking about signing up for another one. Can't recommend highly enough! Thanks Backyard Roadies for a wicked trip! 👌

Alright, alright, alright. I had such a cool time doing the 4 Day Far North Escape and I’m so glad I did it. What an awesome way to experience NZ. You hit a bunch of iconic kiwi spots such as Paihia, Waipu, Te Rerenga Wairua (Cape Reinga), Ahipara, Hokianga and get to visit The Lord of the Forest ‘Tāne Mahuta’ in the Waipoua Forest, Kai Iwi lakes as well as a few other hidden gems.
I went solo and was included right from the start, so whatever your reservations, don’t hesitate to go for it! It is a super diverse and inclusive environment and incredibly good value for what you get, all you need to do is to show up and the rest will be totally stress-free. It is very well organised and coordinated by the tour guides. If you’re feeling unsure, try one of the 4-day tours first and you’ll never look back.
All of the hard work Jason has put into Backyard Roadies is evidenced in what is an unforgettable experience – what a blast! Jason has developed the epitome of the NZ roadie and is well on his way to becoming a bonafide legend of Kiwi touring. Millie and Jason are a duo made in roadie heaven, what a great team, super professional and knowledgeable, yet totally down to earth and easy to talk to. I highly recommend it to any and all wanting to explore our beautiful New Zealand, meet new people, and have an awesome time all along the way. Strap yourselves in for the Kiwi roadie dreams are made of!
All of the accommodations we stayed at were super cool with nice spots for us all to hang out together. The van we traveled in was really comfortable with plenty of space for all of us and the air conditioning felt so good on those hot summer days. While cruising along in the van you’ll also get to see some incredible scenery. I’m from Auckland and I never realised how scenic our country is – I’m so glad I got to experience the real Kiwi land and I feel all the luckier and prouder to call Aotearoa my home. Best of all, even once the roadie is over, you will have lifelong friends to take away with you – the icing on the cake couldn’t be much sweeter.
Jason has identified a niche in the market and he has totally owned it. Jason is very knowledgeable about NZ and his passion for the NZ roadie is second to none. Jason, you are the real MVP. As soon as I got back, I immediately wanted to do another one. Some people were having such a blast they even signed up for future tours while we were on our one. No surprises there. From surfing to sailing, Jason had our daily activities on lock and he and Millie ensured everyone had a great time. See you at the next one. Jason, you are the NZ Roadie Master!

If you’ve been struggling to fill that travelling itch to see new places and meet new people over the last couple of years then this is the trip for you!
Whilst other NZ tour companies have withdrawn from the market due to a lack of ‘tourists’, Backyard Roadies have decided to strive to fulfil the untapped demand from Kiwis wanting to travel and discover the hidden gems in NZ.
Having just been on the Northland trip I can attest to it being the best four days since I came to NZ just under two years ago. It’s a great way to meet likeminded people, discover this superb country and learn a thing or two from the fab guides - if you’ve been thinking about doing one for a while don’t hesitate- trust me you won’t regret it! I can’t wait for the Abel Tasman tour later in the year!!
You’ll enter as strangers but leave as family…

I have experienced both the 10 day South Island adventure and the 4 day Abel Tasman getaway, and both while being different vibes were as amazing as each other!
For starters, it takes away so much of the stress of travelling with having accommodation, travel and some meals already planned.
Secondly the guides are always super helpful, friendly and do their best to ensure you get everything you want out of your trip.
This all meant that we could kick back, enjoy the beautiful scenery NZ has to offer, make the most of free time with adventures like Skydiving, enjoy the company of the amazing people met/lifelong friends made along the way, and reconnect with yourself!
Cannot recommend jumping on one of these tours enough, they were both incredible, life changing experiences and I’d do them all over again in a heartbeat!
